This place is off the beaten path, but you MUST stop here! It's definitely worth going out of your way. The atmosphere, the food, the drinks, the decor! It's all good at The Smoking Pig! My husband and I split the sampler platter, which many have commented on, and it was more than enough food for the two of us. Yes, the sides could be a tad larger, but overall, as stated, it's plenty of food combined. The brisket, pulled chicken, and wings were all fantastic, but our absolute favorite was the pulled pork. SO yummy! The platter also comes with these HUGE, amazing french fries that are to die for! There is a good variety of sauces to choose from-something for everyone's liking-and they have a children's menu. Domestic beers are $2.00-crazy, right?-and cold. So I've finally gotten a chance to make it around to The Smoking Pig.. Albeit just for carry out but I'm sure I'll go for a dinner sit down sometime soon. First off the decor is very country... and very clean and crisp. A lot of antiques hanging around and even an antique store in one of the buildings. I took a look around and will have to come back and check out some things I might want to buy to decorate my own place. There are two main buildings. One is the kitchen building which has a few seats inside and is where you'll order your food. The other is the store area with more seating. There is also plenty of other seating outside. The menu is fairly short but sweet. It doesn't get too complicated with things and gives you exactly what you want in a country bbq joint. I got the Korean Kickin Chicken with the Pig Tails. The pig tails were kinda of like a wide short curly fry, they were fantastic. The sandwich was fantastic. Spicy bbq charred just right and flavored up. All sitting on a pretzel bun. Those two items filled me up!! Pendleton County is littered with failed restaurants.. I'm really hoping that this one survives. It's a good location for many people in the county and it's priced very well. I can't wait to go in and sit down to a rack of ribs sometime soon!! read more

The sides are incredibly small, I wouldn't say I would never go back, just like another review said that what you pay in comparison of the size of your side, I wouldn't go back because of that. They also got most of our order wrong. I've never seen shredded brisket, so it completely dried it out (I've only really had it sliced) the people were nice and the in-town location was super charming. The food was pretty good especially being one of the only restaurants around, the size of the sides just kill me, think about a medium sized ranch tub you get from a wing place and that's a good comparison. read more

I happen to live just outside of Falmouth, which is our mailing address, so this restaurant is very close. It is a branch of the one on Highway 27, which was where we first had the occasion to eat their food. Not long after, they expanded and bought a building in Falmouth and opened a restaurant there. They put a lot of effort into the décor, and it looks a lot like something you would see in a larger city, like Cincinnati. The bartenders and staff in general are polite. The menu is large enough whereby one can certainly find something they like. All in all, a pretty nice place. So, why did I only give it three out of five stars? I'll explain using a pro and con format. I will start with the pros. Pros: 1. The décor is awesome. Simply one of the best decorated buildings in the city. The atmosphere is definitely an A+. 2. They have a happy hour where the appetizers are half price and the beer is reduced as well. 3. There is a very nice setup with tables, and the bar, which is made from the lane of a bowling alley, is unique. 4. They have a good selection of liquor for cocktails, bottled beer, and good beer on tap that isn't just Bud and Bud light. 5. The place appears to be very clean, and the food is served in a timely manner. My wife and I ordered the sampler platter, or pig out platter, which had pulled pork, brisket, pulled chicken, and four wings. It came with rolls and three sides. This item was advertised for two. However, the portions were too small, the wings were just one section, so only a third of a wing, not a whole one, and the sides were ridiculously small. No way could two people share a side. In addition to this, we also ordered a sandwich called the Korean Kickin' Chicken sandwich. Sounded good on the menu, but a disappointment as the sandwich was flavorless, with no hint of anything Korean, Kickin', spicy, or otherwise. So, let's do the cons: Cons: 1. The sides are way too small, especially when advertised for two people. The sides we had ordered were mac and cheese, Betty's Beans, and jalapeño poppers. Serving a reasonable amount of beans and mac and cheese isn't going to break the bank. The servings of meat could have been a little more as well. 2. Too expensive for what you receive. Not complaining about the price, really, for it is in line with what you would pay at any BBQ place. The issue is with the quantity of food that you are getting. When you order for two, you should get enough for two. Those two cons are my only issues with this place. They just need to bump up their portions a little. Otherwise, it is a great place and I am glad that they located in Falmouth. Here's hoping they read these posts and take these comments, which are offered as constructive criticism, to heart. read more

Great ribs and service with plenty of outdoor seating! Recommend the bourbon bbq sauce and corn pudding

I am sad that I have to give such a low rating but the quality of this place has significantly declined over the past 2 years. I'm only giving 2 stars because of how awesome this place USED to be. We live about 10 miles away and used to love to stop here after a long day of kayaking. We noticed last year the quality of the BBQ started declining. The meat was not fresh and maybe from a day or 2 before. The brisket, chicken, and pork (we always do the sampler) were so dry and dull looking for 2-3 times consecutively causing us to stop going here. The only saving grace was the sauces and fries. Today we decided to give it another shot, thinking maybe it was just a phase last year and that everything would be back to normal. We were so wrong. My husband got the brisket sandwich and I got the loaded baked potato with pulled chicken. His brisket was super dry even loaded with sauces, the meat soaked every bit of the sauce up it was so dried out, and even then was tough. My potato was flavorless (no salt,pepper, anything), the chicken was not as dry as his brisket but I found 2 bones in mine. We won't be spending another dime here and it's very unfortunate because we live visiting to shop for antiques and plants. read more

Very cool BBQ place that is unique in that you are allowed to wander around the property and look at items on sale. Its basically an estate/yard sale across an old farm house, barn, and greenhouse. So order your food in the restaurant, look around a bit, and your food is ready before you know it! Onto the food. The pulled pork sandwich is good (big!). The beef brisket I had was good but not up-to-par with other places I've been and the cut of meat though cooked well was not appropriate for beef brisket. The sides I've had were great, though slightly small portioned in my opinion. The beans, fried pickles, and cole slaw were great. The choice of sauces, environment, and option to eat basically wherever on the property you want are nice additions. read more

I wish I could give this a 3.5. The Decor of this place is phenomenal and I can't wait to go back when it's not raining and sit out on the patio. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was because the food was pretty hit or miss. By the way our server was awesome too before I forget. OK so the food - the frog legs were really juicy but they were extremely spicy. I asked my server how hot the Cajun were and she said not hot at all. That's not true, I couldn't even eat them they were so hot. The one by it I did it was pretty juicy, it's just way too much heat. I get that there Cajun and I should've assumed that but because I asked I figured they weren't. So the good things that we had - the pulled pork sandwich was awesome. The fried pickles were great, and so was the corn pudding. That corn pudding with hands-down the best thing we ate. The brisket was OK. I loved the chart on the outside but it was pretty dry. I'm used to brisket from like waltz or Eli's, and this was definitely not like that. This could be how they intended to cook it, it just wasn't moist enough for me. I did not like the mac & cheese at all, and nobody at my table would eat it. Really excited to try the peach cheesecake in a jar, but the table in front of us got the last one so I didn't get to try dessert. Hopefully next time. I think you should definitely go and check this place out, will for sure go down and try It again even though it's about 40 minutes south. Next time I want to try the ribs because the table next to us had them and they looked awesome read more

Visiting the Ark ( staying at the brick house airb&b on Kentucky 3149 here in Butler - great home), when we stopped in for dinner. Very interesting place!! First, let me say that, in general, Kentucky people are as good as it gets! and that's true here as well!! Ordered the sampler platter. Brisket/pulled pork/pulled chicken/ribs with mac cheese and beans. Brisket was cut very thick - unusual but delicious beef flavor. Ribs -fall off the bone. Home made bourbon sauce was excellent. Not too much bourbon or spice, really enhanced the flavor of the pulled meat. Mac was ok, beans were ok, but did not like the lima beans in there....You have to come get some of this!! read more

I had driven by Smoking Pig last month on a trip and thought it might make an interesting place to grab a meal in the future. My wife and I were taking a Sunday drive south along US 27 when we saw the sign for Smoking Pig, and so we pulled in. This place, while on a federal highway, is still in the middle of nowhere. We arrived about 11:45 and there was not a car in the front parking lot, but the sign said open and the scent from the smoker was far too enticing not to check out the ground further. The main restaurant entrance is about 50 yards along the gravel lane, which opens up to a rear parking lot area that did have one car. We walked in, and were pleasantly surprised. Small, three booths, but with plenty of outdoor seating, and upon later exploration we found another building with more indoor seating. We had a seat in a booth, and proceeded to order the sampler, that comes with pulled pork, pulled chicken, brisket, and a 1/4 rack of ribs, along with three sides and buns if you want to make a sandwich. The amount of meat we received was HUGE, and while the side portions were a tad small, they were excellent (mac and cheese, corn pudding, and fried green beans were our choices). The meats were all very good to excellent. The pulled pork was fairly similar to most others you have probably had. The pulled chicken had a nice smoke flavor, and was white meat. The brisket was some of the best I had ever tasted as brisket seems to be the downfall of most BBQ places but not here. The ribs were very good, already having some of the Texas sauce on them, but not so much to be overwhelming. We tried the various sauces on the tables (Texas, Kansas, Carolina, and bourbon). The latter is made in house, and they also have a hot sauce that we did not try. The styles were all tasty. We had plenty of food between the two of us, but still had to try a slice of the homemade peanut butter pie. It was excellent, Creamy, not overbearing, with a crust that was slightly caramelized. Our server was very nice, but alas we did not catch her name (but she looked a bit like Allison Krauss). She checked on us in a timely fashion without being pushy. There are antiques in the main house and barn, as well as a small greenhouse. Plan on spending an hour or two to eat and look around. We will definitely return as the drive is nice and only about 40 minutes from home. By the way, as we ate, we kept seeing more and more folks come in to dine and to take out. The parking lot was over half full when we left so what we first thought was a rarely frequented place turn out to be very steady! read more

The Brisket plate was excellent. I had the sweet slaw and Mac and cheese with it. Slaw was excellent. The Mac and cheese just good. I wished I'd picked another side in its place. They have five different sauces to try. All were very good I wish the portions were a little bigger but I did not walk away hungry. Meal also came with jalapeño corn sticks. They were not spicy hot. They were good but might have been better if they were warm (temp). My companion got the footlong hot dog with chili and cheese. That was a great hotdog. No complaints at all there. We also got peach pie. Was very good. But cold. Might of had more favor with some heat to it. Peanut butter pie was excellent. Kayla was our waitress and did a great job. Stopped to check on us several times I recommend this place and will return to try the other items on the menu. There is an antique place here also so if you enjoying looking at old items this is your place. They sell flowers and and yard decorations that look great too. read more

We came to Butler, KY to go kayaking at Thaxtons. When they ran out of kayaks we decided to find a place to eat. Checking Yelp, we found this little gem. The BBQ is amazing. We ordered the sampler and split it. There is a perfect amount of food for two and you can try most of their meats. Many places have a sampler where only one or two items are good. So good! I am a picky meat eater and I was very happy with my meal! We ordered the sampler and I mainly ate the pulled chicken with their hot and spicy bbq sauce (which I bought a jar of on the way out) their fried pickles were good and the peanutbutter pie tasted very yummy and homemade. Everything was reasonably priced and I really liked the feel of this restaurant. I only wished I lived closer :) read more

My husband and I found this place on our way to the funeral home in Butler. Loved the setting.....an old farmhouse which is now where they sell antiques and you eat in the old kitchen, and a newer log cabin, which is the kitchen and where you order. There are also 3 table booths here, if you want to eat here. Plenty of outdoor seating, but it was too cold when we went. Looking forward to when it gets warmer to go back! We loved it, so we ended up taking my parents for my mom's birthday. They loved it as well! They have a sampler plate (which feeds 2--we BOTH had some to take home for another day! Someone shared a menu earlier, but the Sampler wasn't listed on it, so it has to be a new addition) which has smoked chicken, pork, rib, and beef brisket with 2 toasted buns, if you want them and the tables have 5 different BBQ's for you to choose your own. We loved the Texas and Hot and Spicy ones. You get 3 sides with the platter. As someone said earlier, the pigtails are AWESOME! They're fried, wide cut curly potatoes. We haven't had anything that we didn't like! Seriously! One of the desserts is funnel cake! Didn't have it, but at some point, we will! The staff is very friendly as well! We've been twice, and I'm sure that we'll be back when the weather is warm so that we can sit outside. Hopefully they'll have some kind of entertainment! I took a nice drive to Lexington on US 27 and came across this gem in Butler. The food is excellent. The sides are especially amazing. I've tried almost all of them and plan on going back until I've had every one of them. The service is friendly and fast. The atmosphere is eclectic - from old stoves in the driveway to a pond with cast iron tables and chairs around it. Stop in the antique shops too, very good prices. Wife an I made a lunch date for the Smoking Pig! Actually found the place when I was messing around with Google maps just to see what was around that area since we don't live that far away in California, ky.. I fashion myself as a "backyard smoker" so I'm aware of what it takes to make good BBQ!! As someone who smokes; and I would not say I'm a "Pit Master" by any stretch, but I know what I like BBQ to taste like. First off, NOT a fan of hickory wood used to smoke food! It can be overpowering and masks the flavor of what you're eating. When I smoke I use pecan and cherry which are quite a bit milder than hickory, being that said, here is my take on the Smoking Pig; the ribs were great!! Nice rub and just the right amount of tug when you bite in to them. They didn't fall off the bone, which is what true bbq ribs should be like!! Oh, and we had the sampler platter which can feed 3 easily. Not a bad price either!! Anyway, the pulled pork was are next favorite. Very tender but the hickory smoke still dominated. The brisket was our 3rd favorite. Relatively tender and not bad; neither of us our brisket lovers. Last was the pulled chicken. Slightly on the dry side and again the hickory flavor dominated. As for the sauces; they had a wide range, which was nice!! Need to add a "Memphis Style" sauce to the bunch. Sides; well who goes for BBQ worrying about the sides!! The ones we had; onion rings, pigtail fries and mac and cheese were just ok!! I am not trying to be critical, just honest! Giving my opinion based on what I like and what the wife likes! We are very much supporters of local businesses and hope that the Smoking Pig is successful and is around for a long time!!! But, if I were asked "what could they do to mix it up a bit", I would suggest using different woods (pecan and cherry), because not everyone likes hickory!! read more
