My parents were visiting and taking in the sights. We are residents of Hawaii. The nanosecond we walked through the door, an older lady started yelling "there is a 7 person limit!!!!! You need to get out!! Someone needs to leave. We did have a party of 6 and 2 people were in the store. My husband quickly departed the store because of his allergies and decided to forgo the experience. Our twins (16) also vacated within seconds. She was very rude. There is a nice way to say things, such as, "I'm sorry, we have a 7 person limit due to fire code.. etc, without yelling. I left and went outside with my husband while my parents shopped. My mother stated the lady was snobbish and condescending to other customers. While in the shop, my husband leaned against the pole holding the roof up and it MOVED A FULL FOOT, and he nearly fell. My dad uses a cane and grabs onto items to help him with stepping off curbs. I went back into the shop and let the lady know the the bottom of the pole was completely rotted and moved like it did. Her response, "i don't care it's not my building, I'm not the owner." I stated "someone should let the owner know as it's a safety hazard." She then left the shop and went next door and let the owner know. Owners response was just a shitty, "i don't care, it's still standing." If I could give 0 stars I would. Being local to the business I will definately NOT be revisiting. read more

I love this little hippie shop! What a local gem. Hand-crafted soaps are blended with fragrance and oils for the best wash ever. From frangipani to patchouli to ginger to cinnamon - floral, spice and nut oils - soften and smooth skin. The shop smells divine. The bar soaps are great as shampoo bars, too. Load up - these soaps make the best gifts and your suitcase will smell wonderful for months after your return home. A wonderful selection of gemstone jewellery too. Facial sprays are infused with fine oils - my favourite is rose - I spray my skin before sleep and have the most wondrous dreams. Lori, the owner, is always happy to greet us - she embodies the true spirit of the North Shore - a bit wild, a lot creative, and very mindful of the environment. This is a must visit every time I'm in Hawaii. The Bus will take you here from Honolulu, three stops in Haleiwa. Street parking. Lovely lady watching over a very unique shop. She hand makes about 80% of the stuff in the store. Unlike other souvenir shops, these are all handmade using local ingredients and they all smell great! I selected a few soaps that I have not seen else where with lemongrass and another with anise oil. I believe in aromatherapy so it was smoothing just stepping into the shop. read more

This is one of the best stores on the island of Oahu, Hawaii! I visited on two occasions, the first time I walked in I was drawn to the amazing scent of the soap! I was greeted by a nice lady who owns the store, she said that they make their soap right in the store, and when I asked what the best soap was she gave me wonderful recommendations! I ended up buying a 'PAL Bar' which lasted me 2 weeks of showering and helped soften my wrinkles as well! I had a great experience with the soap, so while visiting Hawaii the next month I just had to go again! This time I was greeted by 2 workers who were very welcoming, one man was making candles and the other gave me advice for what soap to use that could help my rash. I have ordered online from this store as well, everything comes in just fine, no shipping problems. The only complaint I have with the store is that on the second occasion I was confronted by a homeless person across the street, although this is more of an issue with the area rather than the business but still it is located in a very nice small town! My experience with the customer support and products has been amazing! I would highly recommend purchasing their soap (and candles as well)!!! read more

Definitely worth a stop if you're on the North Shore. We happened to walk in while they were making a batch of soap so it was like a personal tour on what they had and what they were best suited for (dry skin or eczema; I know what soap is for, obviously) and honestly just a good time talking story. We ended up getting the lavender bar-the price is pretty hefty but you get a giant chunk of it and was told that it does last a while. I usually go through soap like most people drink water, but I was proven wrong. The piece that I thought would last a month, at most ended up in our soap dish for almost a quarter. The owner was soooo nice to my kids and I snapped up a bunch of soaps on the way to the airport. The jewelry was also gorgeous and I am going to return when I come back. Wow best store in Haleiwa, we live in Cali, make it a point to come here twice a year. The owner and her staff have such good Karma. Great vibe here. It's worth the drive from "The City" for visitors. We stay in Kuhuku. Love the shampoo bar!!! They share the Aloha genuinely and in great amounts here. Parking in this area is a bit of a nightmare, so be prepared to be patient. There is a huge selection of items which is really neat, but they are priced on the higher end. Still, if you don't visit often it's a bit of a treat. There are small signs that blend into the scenery that are intended to be a camera with a line over it. It's meant to indicate no photography allowed. I only found out because the lady behind the counter became a rude, loud, troll when I took a photo. While there are several of those signs, it's unclear and they also blend in with the million items strewn about. Fortunately for the lady I was there with my little sister and I apologized rather than putting her in her place. Maybe next time. Check it out if you're a tourist, but don't take photos. The owner is not in a good head space. She screamed at my sister who was standing outside finishing her acai bowl. She threatened to call the cops bc of a plastic spoon. We were not aware this wasn't allowed- especially since a local vendor gave it to her. I attempted to have a civil conversation & said her message would be better received if she didn't yell and wasn't so aggressive . He mood changed drastically throughout the conversation. She went from being understanding to screaming and swearing and back again. It's clear she has some issues & I hope she works on them. The stuff she has in her store looks really good and it smelled nice . I didn't buy anything because I won't support someone who cusses people out. Saying things like "oh are you just here to give me shit? Gtfoh " it was shocking . At that point I just turned and left. Just be careful if you go to that store. She may attack you. Be wary of any interaction with her. I wish I taped it- and I'm sure she will respond denying this. So feel free to go to the store and see for yourself . Absolutely erratic and aggressive behavior. What an amazing, little hidden gem in Haleiwa but then again most of the shops up there are. Love the soap they make here! The owner was in when we went to get some soaps and he was sooo beyond helpful he answered all of our questions without fault and is a great seller as well. He seemed to know exactly what we were looking for before we even asked. We also picked up a great painting from a local artist. If you're into small business and supporting small business this place is a definite visit. After making the swap to this all natural soap, I won't be going back to any other kind. And only $6 a square. It's a steal really for how much time the owners put into making their soaps. Love this place! I can't wait to run out of the soaps I bought so I can visit it again :) Oh!! As a resident of Oahu since 1970, I very highly recommend 'The Soap Cellar' in Haleiwa. It is the busiest and best shop on our North Shore! There are so many exceptional options for gift ideas. I love their specialty soaps made with the finest ingredients and therapeutic essential oils. Each soap has amazingly profound healing qualities. The staff is always pleasant, kind, and very helpful whenever I visit. In fact, I have noticed that everyone who enters this cute shop if greeted with 'The Spirit of Aloha.' I have even purchased spectacular original artwork by local artists at very reasonable prices. Here are a few of the gems I picked up this time around: Yummy-York Bar (soap): I'm a sucker for soap that smells so good you want to eat it! This hand crafted peppermint soap bar smells delightful. Patchouli, Amber, Lavender (soap): This soap is eye-candy. It's clear with colorful chucks of of Patchouli, Amber and Lavender inside. They also have a coconut soap that has bits of twirled material within. Every soap is like a small piece of art. Macadamia Butter (lotion): This makes for a great little gift! They also have a Mango Butter that is really good for your skin. Vintage Hawaiian Postcards: These postcards are made of wood. It's postwood! What a novelty item. Every time I send one to the mainland it's a hit. There is also a small section of cards in the corner of the store by local artists. They are nifty! Yes, yes and yes. I am this guy. I know, I know. I never wanted to wax my brows either, but I am that guy indeed. This couple is doing things right for sure. We ventured in on a very nice afternoon just to beat the heat and the moment we entered the doors, the aroma in the air was intoxicating. This place is for real. I can't use crappy soap because I get an allergic reaction. I've been buying these awesome oatmeal soap bars from Berkeley Bowl and sure enough, I was on the last one. The owner and I were discussing this and he showed us his ingredients, explaining why each ingredient is used for each bar of soap. Very informational and to be perfectly honest, it was a lot of data to retain and considering this was our honeymoon, I've forgotten all of it! It was good stuff though. We walked away with some awesome soap, some candles and this really awesome coconut shell that's carved into a turtle. The owner (lady) is a mean, rude kook. Don't bring your kids in the store! I wanted to get a candle fast for my friend on mainland who requested a specific candle. I brought in my son and daughter and 1st thing she said was "watch your keiki(kid) in my store." I let that go and she then said again 1 minute later, "kids don't touch, just look." And then "kids poke holes in the plastic." I was ready to pay within 2 minutes, wanting to get the hell out of there. My mom said, "ok we got it, you don't have to say it anymore." And she said, "well touching f-ing everything." I told her " nice Aloha." We went to a neighboring store and talked about her and the store clerk said, "ya she is weird. This is one of my favorite little shops to buy Hawaiian scented soaps on the North shore. I've been coming here for a few years when in vacation on Oahu. One of my favorite soaps is their coconut soap--smells so good and makes a creamy lather, leaving your skin so soft. I visited around two weeks ago and they were all out of my favorite coconut soap. The employee working there said he could make a batch and have it ready by the next day. On the day that I was headed out to the North shore to pick up my soap, i wasn't sure I would be able to make it before closing time. I called the shop and the super nice male employee said he was closing around 430-5pm but he would stay open and wait for us if we were on the way. He was so nice to do that for us and I didn't even get his name! Thank you so much for such great customer service! I am a customer for life! I love lavender, and there was lots to choose from. I picked up a lavender soap bar and some lavender spritzer. The owner was very nice and offered to make me up a batch of spritzer if I didn't find the one I liked. What you need to know-Excellent customer service, great products, timely delivery and they have a whole lot of heart. I visited in late summer of 2019 and wandered into town and into the shop. The store clerk told volunteered so much time telling me about the process, ingredients, what would be good and what can do better and how to use the soaps and products. He also took time to tell myself and my group about the culture and great areas of Oahu and was such a gem of a person. I live in Lynnwood, Washington (suburb of Seattle) and Ican tell you we don't have customer service or just hearts like that here. I use their soap due to my extremely sensitive skin and since starting my usual allergy hives have almost completely gone, my pores look amazing and the soap just feels clean. No residue or oil feel on the skin and i know their ingredients are true. Since i do live in Washington i get the soap delivered and delivery is never and issue, and when i get the package there is always a written note thanking me for my service and sometimes an extra bar. read more

Stopped in here while my friend and I were pretending to be on vacation. It's obviously a soap shop, but they sell other kinds of cool trinkets like bracelets and lotions. I probably could have spent more time looking at everything, and smelling everything. My friend and I got the same soap-- is friendship soap a thing? ha. This place smells amazing as soon as you walk in. They have tons of hand-made everything in here from their famous bars of soap to candles to lotions, which are made organically in the store without chemicals or harmful ingredients. There are also beautiful paintings and drawings all along the walls that are for sale. I want to buy some of them so badly, but I'm just gonna have to wait until I get my first house to put them in. They also have tons of other stuff in here including: Jewelry (hand-crafted shell necklaces and earrings along with rustic pendants from another time), postcards, lipgloss and perfume/cologne from Bethany Hamilton (aka the surfer girl who survived that shark attack and now has one arm but still kicks butt at surfing), bath salts, reed diffuser fragrance oils, and tons of other stuff. Check this place out if you are passing through Haleiwa, it's definitely worth taking a look. p.s. the soaps have ingredients in them that help with different situations, for instance one soap is supposed to help with acne/agitated skin and another soap helps wake you up in the morning. The owner is very friendly and can help you find soaps for a specific ailments you may have such as, sore muscles, aches and pains and dermal issues and he also sells high quality essential oils in volume.The soap and incense are my favorite to purchase here. A quaint little mom-and-pop kind of shop. The owners make all their soap and scented products in their store. The soaps are very cute and smell wonderful. I am actually quite a fan of their lip balm. My favorite is the coconut which, unfortunately, they have been out of. They make a different batch each time so right now, it's Mango. Every time I go, they are always very friendly. The prices are actually very fair. The store itself doesn't have an overwhelming scent smell as you probably would expect for a soap store! I'm really disappointed that my family drove all the way to Haleiwa to find this shop closed at the time they were supposed to be open. We waited around for about 30 minutes and when no one showed up to open the doors, my husband decided that we should take our 3 year old daughter to play on the beach a couple of minutes away. Waited another 30 minutes there before I tried to call them before heading back. No one answered. No machine to let anyone know of updated hours. We had taken my in-laws to this place a couple of weeks ago where they spent about $150 and a bar of soap for us. We had fallen in love with the moisturizing effect and smells so we thought we'd go back again and purchase more today...even though the customer service wasn't all that great. Well after all that travel time, taking up our time and burning gas, I searched on yelp for another store. We ended up at The Soap Factory about a 5-10 minute drive away. Worked out really well! Read my review for that shop. Anyways, on our drive back home, we saw that this place had opened up. Must've been anywhere between 11:10am and 12:30pm. Their hours on here say they open at 10.
