I have seen it forever, but will admit this was my first time actually stopping in to see what was offered. First reaction - a really nice selection of saltwater and freshwater pearls, reflecting choices from black to baroque to white pearls. Black pearls, white pearls, a mix of colors, this place has a ton of options. What I really appreciated was an honest assessment of each option I looked at - oysters can be finicky with pearls, and create perfection as well as a "perfection" that would appeal to many of us. What I really appreciated was no push to upsell, just a genuine aloha to help me and other people in the store find something that was right for them. This store doesn't have a lot of local reviews, so I felt it important to give a local. honest review. Frankly, I expected just to do a "just looking" walk through - after all, regardless of what tourists think, pearls are not found in our waters, let alone oysters - but the personal service, and the comfort, even glee of pointing out what may not be "perfect" but will have character, is what sets apart a personal sales experience from mass market. Ultimately, I chose a fantastic looking black saltwater pearl with an "imperfection" that played beautifully into the gold clasp. The price was quite reasonable, the help in shopping made it a learning experience as well as a discovery. I don't know anything about pearls, I'm from Oahu and we don't have pearls/oysters here, but I loved this little shop and the honest discovery. If you are local playing tourist for the day like me, or a tourist, for crafted jewelry, this is a very nice spot.

I was captivated by some of their unique jellyfish designs in fine metals so I walked around the whole shop. I was pleased to find beautiful handcrafted pieces of all shapes and sizes. The person at the register, an older gentleman, spent a considerable amount of time with a Japanese couple, purchasing items. He wrapped, taped, and carefully put items in a bag for them, and handed them their purchase. My turn, maybe it's because I'm in my tshirt and shorts, just a local ol' lady. He rings me up, tapes the plastic bag the item comes in off the shelf, and hands it to me. I didn't get asked if I needed a bag, as it is a gift I'm taking to Japan. I ask if he has a bag of sorts I can put that in? He asks, "such as?". I say, a small bag of sorts? He says, "well we have this brown paper bag, if you want?". Picks up a brown bag from behind the counter. I was done. I said no thanks. And walked away. Why such a difference in service? Maybe I needed to dress better, I'm not sure. I was a bit offended. Products are super cute, this was only my second time here.. I guess it'll be my last as well. So sad. By the way, my husband and I went to Kahala store yesterday, we bought something there. We thought the service was wonderful, the lady helping us was welcoming and helpful. Ala Moana, felt a bit discriminating.

The food wasn't coming from here, but my daughter just had to see what was inside. So we came in to just look. Sugarcane is this cute shop where you can find all these locally made items for a gift, for the home, fir kids, for a friend, or for visitors. They have books, puzzles, toys jewelry, totes, bags, coasters and more. I love the wooden toys for the kids. I bought a wooden cell phone, a camera, stickers and a cute cooking set. They are my kiddos favorite toys. I've gotten key chains and jewelry for gifts. We have coasters for our home too. The workers are pretty friendly and they also wrapped my gift item too. The items seem pricey, but they are locally made and are unique. I don't think you'll find any ship with the same kind of item that Sugarcane carries. Overall, this is a great place to get gifts and maybe something for yourself. Beware of bringing your children. They will make you buy everything.
