There is a sign at The Southern Growl that reads, in effect, that if your pet or your child produces waste on the premises, you are expected to clean it up. I read it three times, not because I misunderstood it, but because I wanted to confirm that it listed pets and children in that order, which it did, and that tells you something about the sequence of problems they've encountered on the lawn, though I've decided not to find out what exactly. With that said, the lawn is not exactly a lawn at all, unless you consider granite rocks as a lawn, which the residents of Elberton, Georgia do as it is considered the "Granite Capital of the World." Elberton this is not. This rocky lawn is to be filled with Bichon Frisés and children in ball caps, and on the afternoon I visited it was doing exactly that. There was a dog near the covered bar area moving through the patio with the serenity of an animal who has never once been told that other people exist. His owner stood nearby holding a beer and looking proud, which is a face I recognized, because I have a son and have stood next to him with that exact expression at least twice in public places where I should have known better. I had the Radiant Positivity, a sour ale at 6%, which sounds like something printed above a middle school guidance counselor's desk but turned out to be genuinely good, all grapefruit and a tartness that knew when to stop. I thought about ordering the Kamp Jam, a 4% light lager described as tasting like shared laughter and the unbreakable bonds of friendship, and decided I wasn't there yet. The owners opened this place in 2014 and have expanded it three times since, which tells you something about Greer that it probably already knows about itself but that the rest of the area is still catching up on. Consequentially, Greer itself has also expanded its waistline 3 times since 2014 but that's a discussion for another time. I thought about asking about the Southern Sanctum, an American Tripel, but the afternoon had reached the evening and a point where a Tripel felt like a commitment that deserved more deliberation than I had left in me. I paid my tab, which was reasonable in a way that surprised me given the quality of everything, said goodbye to nobody in particular, and drove home thinking about the Kamp Jam, and whether the unbreakable bonds of friendship were something I'd get to eventually.

Ngl, I'm jealous Greer gets this place over Greenville! Best beer menu in the Upstate, and I love their Barrel-aged beers! We need more of these around here. The food is also incredible! I got their classic chicken sandwich, but the scallion aioli stole the show. Easily the best dipping sauce around here. I would say try any beer that appeals to you, and you won't be disappointed. Tried the Earl Of The Abbey first, and wow. A beer with earl grey tea is new for me, but works phenomenally well. Plus the service is also great! Casey, Abby, and Bob were all nice, knowledgeable, and friendly. Give this place a try if you want a relaxing drink, good food, a family-friendly spot, or just an excuse to get out. You won't be disappointed.

4mile hike to North lake every two months followed by a surprise but tasty meal, every single time! Not too shabby, is it? This time, it was miso mushroom melt and tempeh sandwich with goat cheese fritters, mocktail: Calm Before. As always, sandwiches were so flavorful and tasty. The only thing that I would change is the mocktail volume. More ice and less mocktail for $9 didn't quite fit the bill. Service and ambiance as usual consistent, efficient and lively. Can't wait to come back for the new menu!!!

Decided to go here for dinner one night with family that was visiting & it was great! Trying to figure out the service though, was a little confusing at first. It's hard to tell who works there and where to go. You have to scan a QR code to view the menu & then go order inside. You get a buzzer that tells you when your food is ready then. It's just a different system, but very efficient! We had outdoor patio seating, where there's good heating, even on a chilly night. The string lights gave the place a nice aesthetic feel too & it was a cozy environment! The food is also great & I loved that they had a tofu sandwich for non-meat eaters! It was very flavorful, but a little spicy. There must have been some peppers that I missed seeing. Sweet potato fries were also yummy! The portion size was perfect. Would definitely love to go back here!

What a great place. Fantastic beer, great service, and an amazing atmosphere. I live in Texas and the craft beer scene there is very strong. The Southern Growl ranks up there with some of the better Texas craft breweries. This is a must do every time I am in upstate South Carolina. Unique and tasty food and a relaxing and enjoyable experience. Mix in great beer and you have five star

This is our favorite brewery in town. It is so fun with a large outdoor area with SO much seating. There's also a ton of seating inside if the weather is bad. They change the menu weekly and also offer brunch on the weekends. The beer flights are a must try. We love taking our family here when they visit. Their burgers are my favorite. We come here often and always have a blast. It is very family friendly and they allow dogs outdoors. The servers are great and they even come around outside to take your dirty plates and glasses.

If you're going to have someone work the front to take orders, a friendly staff member would be nice. As a first timer, we misunderstood the menu and you could obviously tell it made her annoyed right off the bat. Instead of explaining it, she was snarky and took everything in us not to just walk out. So feeling rushed, had to order off a whole separate menu we didn't have time to review. Crazy, because the reviews always rave about the place but the experience could've definitely been better. The food was great for the better part of it. Wings were crispy. Not many options on sauces. The burger was a good size and fries weren't overcooked or greasy. The inside is spacious, and the seating outside is great. Pet friendly outdoors as well, which is a plus.

This place has it all. Friendly staff, great next-level bar food, a ton of stuff on draft and TVs is your a sports person. Want to sit indoors? Check! Outdoors? Check! Outdoors, but covered? Check! Outdoors, but kid-free? Check! Give it a try. I don't think you'll regret it.

What a great place! This was our second time coming for brunch, and we'll definitely go back again! The staff is really nice and caring, and the good came out really fast! Honestly, it was so fast that our pickle dip came out the same time as the entree, so we didn't really get to eat it hot. Next time, we'll order in stages. The food is excellent. The recipes are creative, though be ready as there is a little heat from the chorizo! Everything was well cooked and fair portions. The slaw was interesting as it had a more earthy taste, and we thought it might have been sesame seeds and oil? I wish I had seen the pepperoni rolls they had at the register because they looked amazing. Their beer is top notch and they have a really wide variety. The Weiss Decision is my favorite! My friend also got the Starry Night drink, and it was delicious, well mixed, and really balanced in the flavors (not too mention how pretty it was). For dessert, house made, fresh chocolate chip cookies!! There large and so delicious. Since we were there early in the day, they were even still warm!!!

Counter service only; delicious burgers, nice huge spacious indoor and outdoor seating. Friendly staff; great outdoor picnic like setting. I'm sure their variety of beers are excellent!!

The kind of place where you stop in for "just one" and suddenly realize the sun has set and you've somehow made three new friends... aka my favorite kind of brewery! I wish we could've stayed for the live music because the stage setup looked awesome, complete with disco balls and plenty of Instagram-worthy areas for pictures and boomerangs (yes, I'm a millennial and I'm sticking with it)! The beers were excellent, and it became clear pretty quickly that this brewery is woven into the fabric of the town. Their brews popped up at several restaurants we visited, and after stopping in, I totally understand why they're so well-loved in the area. The space is huge, with high ceilings and plenty of room to spread out. There's even an outdoor area built out along the sidewalk--probably a COVID addition that was too good to take away. The vibe was laid-back and welcoming. Service at the bar could've been a bit more attentive, but everyone was friendly and chill, so it never bothered us. And my favorite moment? Watching a grandpa-aged regular stroll in with his own paper plate "poor man's charcuterie board." I absolutely loved it. That's the kind of place this is, a spot where regulars feel at home and newcomers instantly want to become regulars! No food that I could tell, but honestly, with great beer, good vibes, live music, disco balls, and Jell-O shots, who needs much else?! If you're brewery hopping around town, make sure this one is on your list. It was our favorite stop, and I'd happily spend an entire afternoon getting lost here. Also, not sure if the Jell-O shots are a staple or not so don't be sad if they aren't there, I didn't asked, just vibed lol

Hubs had the meatballs (which the server said they only had two left...a friend nabbed the others) and other friends had the moules (mussels) frites and the braised short rib IIRC. The *.frites were the biggest hits. My filet was perfect, Sharon was raving about her mussels being the best she's had in ages. I had a bite of the meatballs, they were ok but people agreed there are better things on their menu. I love that the frites come with a choice of 3 out of about 10 different custom mayos (aiolis for the fancy-schmancy). I tried the curry, sriracha, and a fruity one I can't remember exactly what it was. I liked the fruity one the best and to my surprise, the curry the least (I usually love curry, but the balance was off). The sriracha mayo was too subtle for me, I slather sriracha mayo on my burgers regularly. I have no class. The frites were fresh cut and I enjoyed them but there were far more than I could eat on my plate, and sadly frites don't keep. They have my favorite super sweet Lindemann's framboise lambic on tap; I've only ever had it in bottles before, so that was a treat. My husband thinks I'm crazy to drink it because it is SO SWEET but I love it. So does Sharon, and clearly we're not alone or they wouldn't waste a tap on it :). It's beer for people who hate beer. (I resemble that remark. Maybe hate is a strong word. But in my 30s I realized I'd rather drink a soda than a beer, except for this one.) Desserts sounded good but we were too stuffed to order any. Next time I come, I may try the mussels, or I might just order that steak again.

It's in a basement that feels like a pleasant dungeon or a 1500's rogue tavern, you know, the kind in the movies where plots to overturn evil rulers are hatched. It is a unique vibe and after your meal, when emerging back onto the brightly lit street, it's akin to stepping out of a secret place and back into the light of day. The beer selection is impressive. This food is Belgian inspired. Hence the name being derived from a mix of Trappist Monks, trap doors, and a hidden underground enclave. Many of the beers have higher alcohol content, listed on the menu, be advised. The specialty is Moules Frites, mussels prepared in various broths and fries double fried in duck fat served with a flight of your choice of flavored mayonnaise such as wasabi, curry, truffle, sriracha, etc. Very good. Reservations are highly recommended. It was a busy Thursday at 6:30pm and the place was literally packed, even the bar. The two of us were seated in a large, dark, alcove booth fitting for six or perhaps even eight. We had a reservation, so the hostess said, "we may as well fill it" since it was that crowded. Being such, it was five minutes before we were noticed and placed our drink orders, another five before our water arrived and we ordered and about 30 minutes later to get our food. In between we were left to ourselves. The service was not negligent, but it was minimal and not really friendly either. It was a busy night, so we will have grace. But the mussels were delicious. We both had the Provincale, a rich, savory, Mediterranean sauce of tomatoes, garlic and white wine. Bourdain says "never order the mussels", in his Kitchen Confidential book, but here you are safe because they are very popular and the main feature. I've probably said this before and it is worth repeating, they need to up their crusty bread game. The broth is so good and the accompanying bread just doesn't lend itself to bringing the dish to another level, but it could were it better bread. This is a solid and must do restaurant experience when visiting Greenville. It arguably should be the "one" restaurant you must visit in town because of its unique ambiance and unique food & beverage.
