There is a sign at The Southern Growl that reads, in effect, that if your pet or your child produces waste on the premises, you are expected to clean it up. I read it three times, not because I misunderstood it, but because I wanted to confirm that it listed pets and children in that order, which it did, and that tells you something about the sequence of problems they've encountered on the lawn, though I've decided not to find out what exactly. With that said, the lawn is not exactly a lawn at all, unless you consider granite rocks as a lawn, which the residents of Elberton, Georgia do as it is considered the "Granite Capital of the World." Elberton this is not. This rocky lawn is to be filled with Bichon Frisés and children in ball caps, and on the afternoon I visited it was doing exactly that. There was a dog near the covered bar area moving through the patio with the serenity of an animal who has never once been told that other people exist. His owner stood nearby holding a beer and looking proud, which is a face I recognized, because I have a son and have stood next to him with that exact expression at least twice in public places where I should have known better. I had the Radiant Positivity, a sour ale at 6%, which sounds like something printed above a middle school guidance counselor's desk but turned out to be genuinely good, all grapefruit and a tartness that knew when to stop. I thought about ordering the Kamp Jam, a 4% light lager described as tasting like shared laughter and the unbreakable bonds of friendship, and decided I wasn't there yet. The owners opened this place in 2014 and have expanded it three times since, which tells you something about Greer that it probably already knows about itself but that the rest of the area is still catching up on. Consequentially, Greer itself has also expanded its waistline 3 times since 2014 but that's a discussion for another time. I thought about asking about the Southern Sanctum, an American Tripel, but the afternoon had reached the evening and a point where a Tripel felt like a commitment that deserved more deliberation than I had left in me. I paid my tab, which was reasonable in a way that surprised me given the quality of everything, said goodbye to nobody in particular, and drove home thinking about the Kamp Jam, and whether the unbreakable bonds of friendship were something I'd get to eventually. read more

Ngl, I'm jealous Greer gets this place over Greenville! Best beer menu in the Upstate, and I love their Barrel-aged beers! We need more of these around here. The food is also incredible! I got their classic chicken sandwich, but the scallion aioli stole the show. Easily the best dipping sauce around here. I would say try any beer that appeals to you, and you won't be disappointed. Tried the Earl Of The Abbey first, and wow. A beer with earl grey tea is new for me, but works phenomenally well. Plus the service is also great! Decided to go here for dinner one night with family that was visiting & it was great! Trying to figure out the service though, was a little confusing at first. It's hard to tell who works there and where to go. You have to scan a QR code to view the menu & then go order inside. You get a buzzer that tells you when your food is ready then. It's just a different system, but very efficient! We had outdoor patio seating, where there's good heating, even on a chilly night. The string lights gave the place a nice aesthetic feel too & it was a cozy environment! The food is also great & I loved that they had a tofu sandwich for non-meat eaters! It was very flavorful, but a little spicy. There must have been some peppers that I missed seeing. Sweet potato fries were also yummy! The portion size was perfect. My brother and his family routinely visit The Southern Growl. We visited for a special occasion as my nephew graduated college. The Growl is a huge space for indoor and outdoor dining but always packed. The staff provide good service with a smile, especially if you are a regular customer. The menu is bar food with a few different twists. I ordered the peanut butter and jelly wings. Very good! Large, meaty wings to boot. I was impressed with the sweet potato fries. Waffle fires at that. The hamburgers look good. Decent selection of in house and regional brews. I am not a big IPA fan, but I enjoyed the cold Howler Bock. It reminded me of Shiner Bock. This is our favorite brewery in town. It is so fun with a large outdoor area with SO much seating. There's also a ton of seating inside if the weather is bad. They change the menu weekly and also offer brunch on the weekends. The beer flights are a must try. We love taking our family here when they visit. Their burgers are my favorite. If you're going to have someone work the front to take orders, a friendly staff member would be nice. As a first timer, we misunderstood the menu and you could obviously tell it made her annoyed right off the bat. What a great place! This was our second time coming for brunch, and we'll definitely go back again! The staff is really nice and caring, and the good came out really fast! Honestly, it was so fast that our pickle dip came out the same time as the entree, so we didn't really get to eat it hot. Next time, we'll order in stages. The food is excellent. The recipes are creative, though be ready as there is a little heat from the chorizo! Everything was well cooked and fair portions. The slaw was interesting as it had a more earthy taste, and we thought it might have been sesame seeds and oil? I wish I had seen the pepperoni rolls they had at the register because they looked amazing. Their beer is top notch and they have a really wide variety. The Weiss Decision is my favorite! My friend also got the Starry Night drink, and it was delicious, well mixed, and really balanced in the flavors (not too mention how pretty it was). We visit here every time visiting family in Taylors, Greer, and Greenville. It was decent bar food, with some twists, and beer etc is usually pretty good. However, not sure what happened to the food quality but this last visit was poor. The service and method for ordering is fine. The layout is really nice inside or out, parking is awesome. And they seem to allow community events there. First they poured the wrong drink for my wife. Had to go back up to correct, which was done no questions asked. Then the food. The coleslaw just didn't work for me. My wife's chicken sandwich was honestly disgusting, like fried in fish oil, super thin and tasteless other than the off taste from whatever it was prepared in. Not sure we would eat there again, and just eat a t Culver's, and have a beer at S Growl. read more

Excellent BrewPub serving delicious pub grub, happy hour specials and a wide selection of craft beer. We ordered and took our beer outside and sat at one of the open picnic tables. Very nice space and very relax atmosphere. I had a Belgium Quad and ate the BadAss Burger with a side of onion rings which was awesome. Inside is also spacious with Big Screen TVs all around. Tried to go for a Mother's Day brunch yesterday (05/11/25). We got there and although the restaurant was fairly busy, we were seated right away. I stood in line to order food for about 40 minutes, by the time I made it to the front of the line I discovered what was taking so long. They were sold out of all of the brunch items by 12:00. Did they bother to alert their customers? No. Did they amend the menus that they were handing out? Also no. They just tell you when you get to the front of the line, forcing you to find the rest of your party (who are back reserving your table so that it doesn't get taken) to make new choices. After I ordered it was another 45 minutes before the food came out. And when it came out, ice cold and completely inedible. I have had better experiences in the past, but yesterday was a clusterfuck of poor planning and absolutely terrible decision making by the management. read more

If you desire hot food, go elsewhere, because the food ordered, which should've be hot, was inedible. Even asked for a steak knife, and they sent a bus boy to cut meat with a dinner knife, because they don't give sharp knives to customers. We specifically phoned ahead of time to see if the NFL games were being aired, and were told, "yes." That was not accurate. All they were showing were NFL game day updates /recaps. First time here. After standing at the host Stand for a minute we needed to make our way to the bar to order. So the concept is unique. You can start a tab and order beer and drinks and grab a table until they page you. The Brussel sprouts would be 100% better if it wasn't goey and drowned in all the sauces.
