    Raspberry mint hibiscus lemonade
    Scott B.

We took our dog for a drive with us recently to enjoy the warming weather. Stopped to get takeout at The Speakeatery and ate it over by the Asbury Park boardwalk where it was nearly empty because it was midday on a Friday and we need to be away from people because he is very reactive. Wifey got the black bean burger which comes with a bag of chips. I got the shrimp po boy and ditched the chips for a side of fries and a raspberry mint hibiscus lemonade. We shared a side of broccoli ginger slaw. Wifey liked the burger. I really liked the shrimp po boy. It was stuffed with shrimp. Lettuce, tomato and onion were ultra fresh and the remoulade was delicious! Bread could have been a little less bready but held the sandwich together nicely. Fries were a tad too salty but nothing that a little ketchup didnt cure. The broccoli ginger slaw was incredible! Crisp broccoli and cabbage paired with a ginger dressing that is the perfect summer salad even in winter. Lemonade was good as well with the mint adding a nice punch. Definitely worth a return trip for lunch and to try their breakfast offerings as well. A return trip is absolutely in our future for lunch and also to try their breakfast sandwiches which sound amazing from reading the descriptions.

    THE OL' STEAK SANG-GWEECH

I love this sandwich shop in Asbury Park. Today I ordered THE OL' STEAK SANG-GWEECH Which is their take on a Phillies cheesesteak and it has cherry peppers in it. It was very good very spicy but you can order it without the peppers if you want. The staff is very friendly and helpful in the orders come out very quick and it's all good quality food for the price you pay. There is limited seating so depending on the time the day you go. There is also plenty of parking outside on the street so if you want to do it to go order you can go that route and then drive down to the beach and eat it there

At the suggestion of one of the workers I tried the Philly cheese-steak. It was meh, good not great. She told me it would be spicy, but it really wasn't. The seasoned fries were BANGING. My coworkers got the roast beef sandwich. They all enjoyed it. I'llreturn again and try something different.

The only comfortable seating in the place.

It's perfectly okay. A spot trying to make due with what they're working with, and doing well at it. Well enough, anyway. There's bar seating out front, stools in the windows, and three sets of couples seating in the back. If lower lumbar support is your need, you'd better hope one of those three tables is available. It is, and it was. My breakfast sandwich had to be on a biscuit because they were out of bagels. Must've been a product ordering mix-up because it was way too early in the morning to run out of anything. Service was indifferent. I kinda felt as if she didn't care if I spent my money there or not. Okay. Moderately cramped feel, blasé worker, very clean restroom, gotta pay for street parking, average prices, pretty good food, lacking in product. Not enough to make me a repeat customer. A.

food here was so so good. Everything was perfect it tasted fresh and exciting. The general was the best meal it was just an all around perfect sandwich. The Asbury park boomer was also really good. The menu here is 5 stars. The make interesting and fun choices. They offer an excellent variety for different types of people. Vegan and vegetarian options. Surprisingly not expensive even with the high quality. The service was great the girl at the front was very knowledgeable and had all the answers when I asked multiple questions. The food came out quick and was very hot. Atmosphere- Super cool atmosphere with a very interesting speakeasy vibe. The parking is not always easy but because it's on Cookman it's a nice walk and at lunchtime there is sometimes parking.

I was in the area and Google searched "good breakfast" and this popped up with good reviews. The reviews are accurate. I was met with a warm greating. I ordered the Hey Zeus breakfast sandwich which contained eggs, bacon, cheddar cheese, with house made sausage gravy, on house made buscuits. They sandwich was tasty and fulfilling. The sausage gravy added nice flavor to a classic sandwich. I will be back the next time I am in the area.

Not much to say food was great. The price may not be suitable to some but trust me it's worth it. Service is always great as well.

I visited The Speakeatery while I was visiting Asbury Park. The place is great but at first we thought there was not an adequate amount of seating. There are a few bar seats near the window. There are also bar seats near the kitchen as well. In the back of the restaurant there were a ton of unexpected seating options. So much more seats than previous expected! Food is picked up from the register. The coffee was really good;however, I wish there was multiple sizes. We still needed more coffee after coming here. The food;however, was next level. THAT WAS THE BEST BREAKFAST SANDWICH I HAVE EVER HAD. The bun was nice and toasty. The hash brown and bacon was super crispy. The pork roll and egg was delightful.

Speakeatery is a popular restaurant located in Asbury Park, NJ, known for its creative take on sandwiches and its retro speakeasy vibe. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and their menu features a wide variety of sandwiches made with high-quality ingredients. One of their most popular sandwiches is the "Speakeatery Original," which is made with roast beef, Swiss cheese, caramelized onions, and horseradish cream on a garlic butter roll. They also offer vegetarian and vegan options, including a tofu "Reuben" sandwich and a vegan "chicken" sandwich. Todays visit we ordered a Haight & Ashbury Park which is a portobello mushroom cheesesteak, provolone, lettuce, tomato, avocado , onions, and roasted red pepper aioli served on extra soft pan baked hero. Delicious! It was was very tasty and filling. The Speakeatery has unique and flavorful sandwich options, a cozy and welcoming vibe, and friendly service. It's definitely worth a visit f you're in Asbury Park and looking for a tasty sandwich. Con: Metered street parking.

Different cheesesteak #1057 in the last five years. I have a love/hate relationship with winter, asbury park and The Speakeatery. I got the breakfast version of the cheesesteak, a Good Time Charlie. It was very very good. The meat and cheese was melted together very well. Loved the hash brown and (light) hot peppers. But, $11 for a small breakfast sandwich seemed a little high. It was 10 am on a Wednesday in December, you couldn't make a cheesesteak a little early?? I got a parking ticket. 'Free parking so people will patronize our small business owners in the winter' never made it into the Asbury Park Parking Authority suggestion box.

The restaurant was located in a multi-floor home on Wesley Lake, just around the corner from the hustle and bustle of Cookman Avenue. The first floor was more of a bar and lounge, and they had a live jazz band on the evening we visited. We checked in with the hostess and were escorted up to the second floor dining room, which was a charming spot that was breezy and comfortable, yet refined. The floor also had its own bar. Our server was on top of things, but was also clearly newer to the place. Regardless, once we got settled, she took our drink orders, which had taken us some time to decide on since the menu was creative and vast. I went with A Sidecar Named Desire, which included Courvoisier VSOP, Cointreau, Chinola passionfruit liqueur, and fresh lemon juice. I adore passion fruit and had always liked sidecars as well, so I figured it was worth a try, and I loved it! It had a good balance of tart sweetness and smokiness. My friend similarly enjoyed her spicy margarita, and we both imbibed while picking on some bread and herb butter. For our meal, we decided to start by sharing the Greek Salad, which was a massive bowl of romaine topped with tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, red onions, and Kalamata olives. We left off the feta cheese, but enjoyed the seasoned dressing made of red wine vinegar, honey, salt, oregano, and olive oil. It was a fresh and flavorful mix of vegetables that was a pleasure to eat. The entree options were endless and offered something for everyone. I wound up going with the Chilean Sea Bass, which was served over sweet onions and potatoes in a tomato herb reduction. The fish was tender and perfectly cooked. It was a light and tasty dish that seemed perfect for the Spring season. After our meals we were a bit too full for dessert, but we decided to get a second round of drinks, mainly because I was dying to try their Pistachio Espresso-Tini. Wow, was that drink delicious! It blended Ketel One Vodka, Mozart White Chocolate Liqueur, natural pistachio flavor, and fresh espresso. The coffee notes were not super prevalent, but the creaminess, nuttiness was the real highlight. It was a decadent way to end a delicious meal. After we settled the bill and headed downstairs, I noticed several bowls of after-dinner mints, which were a nice touch. From the relaxed atmosphere to the interesting and expansive menu, Moonstruck was a terrific option for our Asbury dinner experience.

Our server, Michael, provided by far the worst service we've ever received. He appeared to be under the influence of something, as he spent long periods simply standing around making odd faces while our table and several others waited and waited for him to acknowledge us. We were left wondering if anyone was going to take care of us. When my husband politely asked about our meal, Michael became rude instead of apologetic or helpful. The food itself had good flavor, but it arrived cold, like it was not served right away, which was disappointing. To end the meal, we ordered a cappuccino, but it was so poorly made that it tasted like nothing but warm milk. It was completely undrinkable. What makes this especially disappointing is that I've always loved Moonstruck. It's been one of my favorite restaurants because of its excellent food and outstanding service. If this is the level of service the new owners are willing to accept, I worry about the restaurant's future. I truly hope management addresses these issues because Moonstruck has always been top notch!

From the moment we entered the pub, we were transferred to the United Kingdom with its tavern-like decor. They had a quaint dining room, a bar area with soccer team schwag hanging overhead, a dainty tea room, and a dimly lit space inside what used to be a bank vault. We were seated at a high-top table in the bar, which was fine, as there was a large party with rowdy children in the dining room. Thankfully, the layout allowed us to avoid the majority of their loudness, though their sheer party size clearly held up the kitchen, since it took a while for us to get our food. There was a specific brunch menu with some breakfast-forward items like Loaded French Toast, but we were also given their full-day menu with many more options. I decided to get two smaller dishes to count as my complete meal. First, I had the Chipotle Chicken Chili, which was apparently a recent addition to the menu. I omitted the scoop of sour cream that was supposed to sit on top of the mound of soup, but I did not feel like I was missing anything by doing so. The smoky broth was packed with kidney beans, stewed tomatoes, and chunks of ground chicken. I thought it was delicious, but a bit thin and oily. I also sampled a side of the Sweet and Sour Brussels Sprouts, which were similarly greasy, but crunchy and well-flavored. In fact, they could have used a bit more marinade to really pop. My companion had positive things to say about his burger and fries. We really enjoyed the casual atmosphere, friendly service, and tasty food at the Black Swan, and I would certainly return to try some of their other traditional, European dishes.
