We took our dog for a drive with us recently to enjoy the warming weather. Stopped to get takeout at The Speakeatery and ate it over by the Asbury Park boardwalk where it was nearly empty because it was midday on a Friday and we need to be away from people because he is very reactive. Wifey got the black bean burger which comes with a bag of chips. I got the shrimp po boy and ditched the chips for a side of fries and a raspberry mint hibiscus lemonade. We shared a side of broccoli ginger slaw. Wifey liked the burger. I really liked the shrimp po boy. It was stuffed with shrimp. Lettuce, tomato and onion were ultra fresh and the remoulade was delicious! Bread could have been a little less bready but held the sandwich together nicely. Fries were a tad too salty but nothing that a little ketchup didnt cure. The broccoli ginger slaw was incredible! Crisp broccoli and cabbage paired with a ginger dressing that is the perfect summer salad even in winter. Lemonade was good as well with the mint adding a nice punch. Definitely worth a return trip for lunch and to try their breakfast offerings as well. A return trip is absolutely in our future for lunch and also to try their breakfast sandwiches which sound amazing from reading the descriptions.
I love this sandwich shop in Asbury Park. Today I ordered THE OL' STEAK SANG-GWEECH Which is their take on a Phillies cheesesteak and it has cherry peppers in it. It was very good very spicy but you can order it without the peppers if you want. The staff is very friendly and helpful in the orders come out very quick and it's all good quality food for the price you pay. There is limited seating so depending on the time the day you go. There is also plenty of parking outside on the street so if you want to do it to go order you can go that route and then drive down to the beach and eat it there
At the suggestion of one of the workers I tried the Philly cheese-steak. It was meh, good not great. She told me it would be spicy, but it really wasn't. The seasoned fries were BANGING. My coworkers got the roast beef sandwich. They all enjoyed it. I'llreturn again and try something different.

I kinda felt as if she didn't care if I spent my money there or not. Okay. Moderately cramped feel, blasé worker, very clean restroom, gotta pay for street parking, average prices, pretty good food, lacking in product. Not enough to make me a repeat customer. A.
food here was so so good. Everything was perfect it tasted fresh and exciting. The general was the best meal it was just an all around perfect sandwich. The Asbury park boomer was also really good. The menu here is 5 stars. The make interesting and fun choices. They offer an excellent variety for different types of people. Vegan and vegetarian options. Surprisingly not expensive even with the high quality. The service was great the girl at the front was very knowledgeable and had all the answers when I asked multiple questions. The food came out quick and was very hot. Atmosphere- Super cool atmosphere with a very interesting speakeasy vibe. The parking is not always easy but because it's on Cookman it's a nice walk and at lunchtime there is sometimes parking.
I was in the area and Google searched "good breakfast" and this popped up with good reviews. The reviews are accurate. I was met with a warm greating. I ordered the Hey Zeus breakfast sandwich which contained eggs, bacon, cheddar cheese, with house made sausage gravy, on house made buscuits. They sandwich was tasty and fulfilling. The sausage gravy added nice flavor to a classic sandwich. I will be back the next time I am in the area.

There are also bar seats near the kitchen as well. In the back of the restaurant there were a ton of unexpected seating options. So much more seats than previous expected! Food is picked up from the register. The coffee was really good;however, I wish there was multiple sizes. We still needed more coffee after coming here. The food;however, was next level. THAT WAS THE BEST BREAKFAST SANDWICH I HAVE EVER HAD. The bun was nice and toasty. The hash brown and bacon was super crispy. The pork roll and egg was delightful.

Different cheesesteak #1057 in the last five years. I have a love/hate relationship with winter, asbury park and The Speakeatery. I got the breakfast version of the cheesesteak, a Good Time Charlie. It was very very good. The meat and cheese was melted together very well. Loved the hash brown and (light) hot peppers. But, $11 for a small breakfast sandwich seemed a little high. It was 10 am on a Wednesday in December, you couldn't make a cheesesteak a little early?? I got a parking ticket. 'Free parking so people will patronize our small business owners in the winter' never made it into the Asbury Park Parking Authority suggestion box.
We ordered a burger and a vegetarian mushroom cheesesteak. No matter how much trouble you and your body got into the night before, the Speakeatery breakfast will make everything right with the world. The Bubba shrimp sandwich with bacon hits all of the crunchy, savory, and electrolyte-filling requirements, and the Top o' the Massacre sandwich is a tour de force of pork products: pork roll, bacon, sausage nestled between a hash brown and muenster cheese. If you didn't have a religious experience seeing Mike Gordon at the Stone Pony, then this is as close as you'll get for the rest of the year. read more

So I ordered my food on my way home from work which is in Longbranch We ordered the ol beef sangwhich cheesesteak and the fowl or chicken cheesesteak of course the food was ready to go paid $44.00 sandwiches came with choice of chips or fries Drove home to south jersey Barnegat to be exact To my surprise the food was still very warm and wrapped in a neat box The first bite was so good I was taking bck a bit and the fries!!!!! Oh my lord the fries have a seasoning on them that's out of this world No ketchup needed on the fries or my chicken cheesesteak lol Needless to say we both destroyed our sandwiches lol we both decided that the steak in the all beef cheesesteak was real meat not minute steak she gave it all together a 9.5 My chicken cheesesteak was definitely the best I've ever had and that's saying something lol I also without hesitation gave my sandwich a 9.5 and I only one half of my sandwich I'm definitely looking forward to trying the rest of the menu real soon lol I just realized that I actually tried this place before 6 years ago and gave it 5 stars but once I moved out of the area I forgot all about it definitely won't let that happen again!!!! After exploring the Asbury Park Boardwalk, I was hungry and wanted to see what was nearby for lunch. I whipped out Yelp and did a search for 'lunch' and The Speakeatery was the first result. It was less than a mile away, had an interesting menu, and a high star average - needless to say I was sold. Speakeatery is located right in downtown Asbury Park. When I arrived most of the block was closed off to cars which gave expanded room for outdoor dining. Because of the pandemic, you ordered at the door and they called you once your food is ready. The menu specializes in sandwiches; they have a number of interesting combinations which actually made it difficult for me to choose which one I wanted. Aside from sandwiches, they have a small selection of entrees, salads, sides, and unique beverages. I ultimately decided on The B's Knees; this was a black bean burger with pepper jack cheese, cilantro-lime mayo, lettuce, tomato, onion, and avocado. The sandwich was great - all the flavors worked really well and the black bean burger was substantial. I've had other black bean burgers that were just not pleasurable to eat but this one was definitely the best one I've had. I chose chips as a side and my entire order was neatly packaged and ready to go. Overall, The Speakeatery is a total yes. My sandwich was great, and that combined with the fast and friendly service made this a highlight of my day trip. If I ever find myself in Asbury Park again I'll be sure to remember this place for an awesome meal. read more

Ordered Buffalo Cobb wrap. Asked for no egg, no carrots. It had both. Totally disappointed. For $20 a wrap they should get it right. read more
Once upon a time, I visited the Speakeatery when they first opened. I remember being super excited but feeling slightly underwhelmed, mainly due to the prices and lack of atmosphere. Fast forward several years later. We came here for breakfast on a Saturday. We ordered the Game Changer and Hey Zeus along with the metal fries - sausage gravy and bacon. I agree with one of the other reviews that the atmosphere isn't anything special as it's kind of tight and also felt very quiet. But the food, more than makes up for it. We practically ate the paper underneath the sandwich. Everything was delicious. Sure, the prices are a little high for breakfast but you're paying for quality and you won't walk away hungry. If I lived in town, I'd be getting take out on the regular. read more
Ever since Guy Fieri stopped by i've always wanted to try this place out. I've walked past this places tons of times coming to and from the bars in town. Finally had the chance to try it, I got the Hot Focker sandwich with fries which was $20. Id say a little pricy but for what you're getting it definitely worth it. The sandwich was big, and very delicious while the fries were crispy and flavorful. Nice spot with a bar sitting area, i'd definitely be back to try out more of the sandwiches. read more

My goodness I dream about the Pickle Focker. It's legit the best chicken sandwich I've ever had period the end. The pickle brine, the pickle slaw, bacon. It's perfection. I wish I didn't have to drive an hour and a half to get to this sandwich but I'm willing to do so every so often. I don't even want to try anything else on the menu. There's no point. Get this sandwich. The restaurant is cute and has outdoor seating as well as indoor. You can go down the street and get a pack of beer and eat your delicious sandwich and have the best day ever. Ok yum!! Being from CA I'm almost always disappointed by east cost salads- small, not fresh or just plain meh. This salad could have been sold in CA- size and quality 10/10. They also are very accommodating for substitutions and allergies, so bonus points for that. My friend had the black bean burger and said it was solid. They don't have much space so I'd definitely recommend getting takeout and even eating at the beach on a nice day. read more

This was a nice sandwich shop in Asbury Park, New Jersey. I gave this place 5-stars because our food was unique and the service was great. We sat outside at one of the two small tables and enjoyed our lunch. On the menu was The General was a very unique sandwich concept. This was a crispy fried chicken cutlet prepared with an Asian General Tso's sauce. For the buns they used steamed rice and called them buns. The sandwich included a broccoli, cabbage and ginger slaw. What a tasty concept. The steamed rice wasn't really a bun so this was difficult to eat. However, I highly recommend this choice. I would like to see this on a steamed bao bun with maybe a layer of the rice layer inside. The other sandwich was The B's Knees which was a black bean burger with pepper Jack cheese, cilantro, lime Mayo, lettuce, tomato, onion and avocado on a toasted round roll....yum!Angry Al Capone Great for a quick lunch with unique choices. read more
The fries....O.M.G. Delicious. Hot. Seasoned. I'm usually underwhelmed by French fries because most places do nothing with them. But not these. Okay. Now to the sandwiches. The gentleman was great. The mozzarella so fresh. The blend of meats (ham, prosciutto, sopressata and salami) were a match together. And the toppings brought it together perfectly and I usually hate onions. My daughters salami and cheese was basic but also good with a great portion of meat and cheese (no really i could've made another sandwich out of the amount). And my daughter was ecstatic that they came with pickles. The to go packaging was also very cute in little boxes. The Person who took our order was also very sweet. read more
