I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Pasta Volo. From the quality of the food to the overall experience, it fell far below my expectations. The meal tasted off, and within hours of eating there, I experienced severe gastrointestinal symptoms, including explosive diarrhea. Based on my experience, I will not be returning. What makes this even more frustrating is that I expected much better given the reputation of the restaurant. Food safety should never be something customers have to question. I hope management takes customer concerns seriously, reviews their food handling practices, and investigates whether there are any issues that need to be addressed. Solid idea and spot. Our pasta was undercooked and a little gummy, so that hurt things right off the bat. I got spaghetti and meatballs which was solid flavor. I added oil and garlic and some ricotta. I think adding the oil and garlic kind of hurt my overall flavor and also pushed a lot of stuff to the bottom but it was solid. Brother got chicken Alfredo. It worked pretty well. He added broccoli and oil and garlic. Again solid flavor but undercooked pasta. It seems like not much pasta but ends up being pretty filling. Nothing special with the flavor. Staff was nice and explained things. Price was pretty crazy. Spaghetti and meatballs without adding anything cost $13.50. Additions cost $2-3 each. This is a chipotle for pasta basically! Super delicious and you get a ton of pasta I couldn't even finish it all. You pick whatever you want on an iPad and the make it in front of you. The reason I gave 4 stars was for pricing. Every thing you added was extra and brought my total to about $18, which seemed excessive to me. Other than that it was super delicious. Paying over $1 for a scoop of mozzarella and the lady only puts legit 3 mozzarella balls. I question her if she is putting full scoops or 1/4 scoops and she completely ignored me. She is extremely knowledgeable with her products, and takes the time to get everything right. There is no dine-in area, but there are small tables outside to enjoy your meal in the warmer weather. It is a clean, friendly atmosphere, with great service where the selection is easily viewable and orders are promptly prepared. The prices are very affordable. Great concept for good quality pasta on-the-go. The pasta is freshly made in house and you can customize your whole order. It's not expensive and the portion is rather large. Service was excellent and fast! You can also buy their pastas to take home with you. I had my pasta made with vodka sauce, chicken, mushroom, roasted garlic, caramelized onions, cheese, and truffle. My only negative comment was that the truffle was a packet they give you on the side for you to sprinkle on yourself. We stumbled upon this place trying to find parking around asbury and it was hidden away on this little narrow side street. Pasta Volo is basically a pasta version of chipotle. You walk in and create your pasta box from the iPads that they have at the front. You can match and combine different types of pasta with the sauces they have. They have a ton of ingredients and toppings to pick. You can really get creative with it. They also have cool Italian drinks that you can chose from on the side. The portion sizes don't look that big but it is def worth the price and will fill you up. This is an immediate 5 stars for me and I am really looking forward to going back soon. read more

Came here for the first time with my boyfriend tonight and I am sooo glad we did. It was a great fast casual experience and the workers were all so friendly! A group even walked in at 7:56pm right before they were about to close and they were still greeted with smiles. I love the take out concept and the make-your-Own bowl and I love that the pasta is so fresh and cooked perfectly al-dente. We both ordered the vodka sauce which was delicious and also pancetta, which was deliciously Smokey, and the meatballs. I also ordered the peppers were perfectly spicy and tart! Also, the bowls start at $5! I seriously wish there was a place like this near where I lived. The only other thing I have to say is that I wish the bread that they served with the pastas was toasted or rubbed with garlic. You get to choose a pasta shape and pick your sauce. Then, you can add a wide variety of toppings. My go-to order is the shells with marinara, mini meatballs (also homemade and so delicious!), and mini mozzarella balls. Their portions are generous and prices are super reasonable (price increases as you add toppings to your order). The ordering process is very easy - either order on the mobile website or order in-store at the iPad stations. The inside is kept super clean and the staff is always welcoming. Walking in reminded me of a cross between honey grow and chipotle. A small staff but they had a great rhythm going and were moving orders out pretty quickly. I expected more noodle options but there were only 4. I did appreciate the gluten free and vegan options available. The portion size was perfect, the bread was on point (the way it's tossed in the bag made me think of Panera bread). I wish there were seasoning options. I would have loved to add fresh basil, pepper, etc to my order. I figured I would go basic to test it out. If you can't get basic marinara right, can we even say it's pasta.... but they past the test. Just the right amount of sauce to noodle ratio. I will definitely be back. Truthfully, haven't stopped thinking about my box of noodles since. This is probably best a order and take out spot more than eat in. They have chairs but it's not a lot. Omg this place is AMAZING!! If I didn't live a hour away I would likely eat at Pasta Volo daily. It only takes one time of eating here & you'll never want to eat elsewhere when you step foot in Asbury Park. When you first walk in you are greeted by the friendly owners who love to answer all of your questions. There are so many options there I don't believe that I have ever had the same combination twice. You get to pick your choice of pasta, sauce, meat, cheese, and veggies. There are also vegan options! Everything is homemade and it tastes very fresh! One of my favorite combinations is fusilli pasta, garlic, oil, pancetta, and broccoli. The food comes in a cute takeout box and they write your name on it. Perfect for taking your food on the beach! There is seating inside (maybe 10 seats total). Also got a kick out of their amazing "Legalize marinara" Shirts. As for the pasta itself....incredible! Aside from the ingenious business idea of custom pasta-made-to-order. The freshness and fastness of the service has you in and out within a couple of minutes with a delicious box of homemade pasta with all the customization you're heart and stomach desires. I started going to Pasta Volo when it first opened 7 years ago and left a great review...delicious. Returned 2 years ago...just ok. Went the other night and I'm sorry to say...it was awful. I ordered shells with marinara and meatballs w/ a roll. The shells were cooked fine but the marinara tasted like tomato paste, right out of the can. The meatballs are small with very little flavor and reminded me of store bought frozen. Paid over $20 including tip and felt the food was just not worth the price. You can customize your dish exactly the way you like it. I recommend this place for groups with picky eaters because anyone from the carnivore to the vegetarian to the gluten free individual will be happy. My friend who tried the gluten free pasta said it was the tastiest gluten free pasta she has had in her life. It's also refreshing that they are not right in the downtown part of Asbury, so you can park more easily right out front. Nice concept and fairly quick. Only 8 Seats inside and 4 outside - they are a great place to pick up lunch to go. I had fusilli with Quattro Formaggi, Pancetta and Peas (eating healthy). It came with two slices of bread and was enough for two meals. Very nicely decorated - the lights pointed out in a previous review are nicely done.
