The owner welcomed us as we walked in and it's a very nice spice and tea place on the second floor of Pier 39. We looked at the honey and the spices. The owner came over and introduced us to the jars that are all around the shop. You can open these jars to smell whatever spice or tea to get a feel for what you would be purchasing. If I remember correctly, the owner and his girlfriend blend it themselves. We purchased some flavored salts, and cranberry apple jam honey. They also had samples of a white strawberry tea that was amazing. This store is great and the service from the owner was fantastic from a details end. Me and my guy were walking by when Andrew drew us in with a delicious floral tea and then invited us in to look around. The store is very large, and there was so much to look at and smell. We were greeted by the owners, who were very helpful in showing us their store and products. We went to pier 39 just to walk around, and ended up having the best experience while there. We ended up getting a bourbon bacon salt, a honey spoon, and got a free tuna rub! The store was so clean and well organized. I love that the spices/herbs/salta/sugars all had jars that you could open and smell for reference. The candles are also noteworthy! Misleading menu for drinks. Rude staff. Almost everything is overpriced. The "Jasmine boba milk tea" is priced as $7.99 BUT they will charge you extra $2 for boba and $1 for milk! So $11 for a mediocre small boba milk tea. When I confronted them that the menu price is misleading, the staff yelled at me that "I have served many people since 8 am and no one ever complained.. we have these extra charges written down there on the menu (small font, who reads those?)" and the guy who was giving free samples yelled at my 6 year old. A very cute tea shop that is tucked away from the hub-bub of Pier 39. It can get pretty crowded but the staff move their line pretty quickly. they have every tea and spice imaginable here. it is so fun to smell everything, especially while reading the tea labels to see whats inside. the girl helping us out was so kind as well, she recommended us her favorite tea (they have a really awesome cafe here) and added some lemon and honey. out of the millions of drinks my boyfriends and i had on the trip, this was our favorite. warm, sweet, healing us against the cold of the wharf. highly recommend coming here to check out their stuff, especially good for souvenirs :) read more

The Spice & Tea Exchange was a very unique store at Pier 39, which once you enter has a wide array of different spices, teas, and tea making trinkets as well as some candles for you to browse and sniff. At the back of the store there is also a bar area where you can choose from a variety of fresh brewed teas that can be made either iced or hot and you can even add Boba to it. When I went, I decided to get one of the ice tea mango flavors and add Boba to it. The disappointing part however was the taste of the tea which was incredibly watery and flavorless. It unfortunately tasted like a worse version of Lacroix, and the only redeeming factor was the little burst of mango flavor from the Boba. That being said, the store itself is really cute and has some really lovely tea themed knickknacks. read more

This little tea shop right on the pier is so cute! They also really have TONS of tea leaves and accessories to choose from. I've really never seen so many! Ordered the iced earl gray crème latte; and it was amazing! Honestly one of the best tea lattes I've had here in SF. You can just taste the quality of it!! Staff was extremely nice and knowledgeable! The time we were there, it was just her and the store was pretty busy, but she was able to tend to everyone! She was also nice and heard her answering several questions people had! Walking around the pier and the wife wanted a Pumpkin Spice something so we stopped in here to get, staff was very friendly and attentive, wife said drink was good, and she was happy. While waiting for the Pumpkin Spice drink to be made I looked at all their spices and teas, they have a very extensive selection but the prices were a bit on the high side. Tourist area high rents and blended in house makes it so they probably need to charge what they do. This was a quaint shop to visit, and I'm not much for tea, but with the cool weather on us, some herb tea can hit the spot! We browsed for a bit, sniffed around, and got a couple of nice bags. The mugs and animal shaped colanders were so cute, but we resisted the temptation to get them. I favored the Sleepytime herb tea, with chamomile, spearmint, lemongrass, but this one has CATNIP! That may explain why a small bag was worth more than a box of 40 at the store by Bigelow! They WANT you to open the tea jars and take in the delightful smells. They have a tea bar and will make ANY tea they have available. And the tea clerk, I believe named Lou, was top notch. I discovered The Spice and Tea Exchange three years ago. I first went to their smaller location at the Pier 39, and I am a regular at their store. When Covid hit and the store was closed, I became their online regular customer. I am definitely a TEA person, and I love Caffeine free teas. One of my most favorite teas at this location are: Mint and Basil, Aurora Blue (brews blue, pretty cool), peach turmeric, ginger lemongrass, chamomile twist, daily defense. I have also tried their: dried rose petals and dried lavender flowers. I also like their white pepper and paprika spices. In the sugars, I have used their flavors of: apple cinnamon, cardamom, red raspberry, coconut, ginger, rose. I know a lot of their products are very underrated and are must trys for the people who like natural products. They also serve hot and ice teas freshly made in store. While back in SF, my family and I were taking a peak at all the new spots we missed out on or had just opened! One of the few we hadn't recognized was this location specializing in teas , peppers, salts, and other spices. And I have to say, it was my favorite shop we visited! As soon as we entered, we were greeted and told we can still smell the samples available. Everyone here was so friendly and helpful - and there was so much to look at! In recent years, I've become more interested in loose leaf teas and shopping smaller for them, so this place was a treat to find! The artisanal decor with wooden accents made the location feel homey, and the array of scents added an even sweeter element. I particularly liked how neat and organized the displays were with clearly written labels on each sample jar. In addition to such a beautiful storefront, there's a barista stand where you can enjoy freshly prepared tea that is the PERFECT temperature for drinking and straining the flavor of the leaves. Shoutout to the barista for expertly preparing a beautiful mint tea that was the best I've ever had. Some places burn the tea and diminish the flavor, but at this location the flavor was honored and maintained beyond comprehension. For a few months I had been looking for a clean, chamomile tea with no hidden additives. Although it had been such a struggle, I was able to find just what I needed at this location which made the stressful chapter reach a happy ending. Along with my chamomile, I also was enchanted by a creme brûlée tea, and I was able to get more tea strainers for guests. By the register, you can find tea sets, gifts, and cups made from clay with gorgeous etchings. From entry to exit, you can get all of your tea needs met for yourself, or the tea connoisseur in your life! Both of my teas tended up tasting phenomenal - I wished I had gotten the two teas I was debating on getting as well!Thank you to the associates at this location for such a surreal experience, I'm excited for my next visit to this location in the future. read more

Outstanding customer service! I walked in after an exhilarating experience at Crab House, which is just next door to the Tea Exchange (or else a few doors down, still upstairs). I walked up and asked for something spicy, and the Tea Representative was spot on and immediately indicated I should try the Fireside Spice, which is AMAZING. It is perfect!!! It is perfect!! It really gives fall vibes. Holiday vibes. A great tea for the fall and winter. It's now on my shortlist of MUST HAVE teas in my cupboard. A little pricey, but worth it. I have yet to try their other teas, but I will say they had TONS AND TONS of tea in the place. I probably should've tried a couple others, but the priciness was sending me. THE AROMA IN THIS STORE THOUGH... it is so iteresting seeing and smelling different types of tea bags, spices/rubs...there is alot of spoces you would never expect to be made or sold in this store. For example, there is a KBBQ rub which I found to be interesting. Although I find this place to be so interesting, it honestly is not worth buying. This is a lovely shop in Pier 39 where they encourage you to smell the loose leaf teas, spices, salts, etc. to your heart's content. The teas are a bit pricey at almost $6 an ounce, but you can get a deal when you purchase five one ounce teas and receive one free. My mom and I went in together on the deal and I left with an ounce of their Mountain Jasmine and an ounce of the Earl Grey. Along with a great selection, we were offered up lots of tips for brewing the perfect cup. Did you know that your first cup of tea usually has the least flavor and the most caffeine?
