The staff was so informative and attentive with helping us hone our craft. They were so accommodating, letting us set up snacks and drinks for our big group and stayed a little late to let everyone finish up. We can't wait to come back! read more

I attended a Valentine's Day event last month with The ATX Dog Mom Social Club at The Spinning Wheel. There was confusion over pricing and timing. The event post noted one price and when we got to the event, we were told it would cost extra to glaze the bowl which was a necessary step make the clay piece food-safe. We were making dog bowls so of course we wanted them to be food-safe but it was a bummer that we would have to pay an additional fee on top of what we had already paid. I was charged more than others in my group! We were instructed to make our bowls outside on the picnic tables which weren't flat surfaces. The event poster also stated that we could shape our clay by hand or use the spinning wheel. The spinning wheels weren't even offered to us. Overall, I attended this event to make new friends and create something nice for my dog. I accomplished both so that was a win! While I most likely won't come back, this business is a fun concept that is great for groups of young children and I even saw a mother bring in her young daughter with her to glaze pottery together which was so sweet but the pricing and timing to pick up your artwork could be clearer. Also parking is very limited so park next door at the gymnasium. read more

Rakhi and her staff, including Maya and Karis, were fantastic. Our ability to follow directions and create the initial form varied among our group, and some had to restart from the beginning more than once. Maya was very patient with us and adjusted how much she assisted by each person's ability. Knowing we were first timers, the staff were very encouraging and helpful as we selected our shapes and attempted to create them. They also helped us personalize each piece with additional designs, and we're very excited to see how everything turns out. There are two parts to this class, creating a piece for baking and in a few weeks we'll return to paint and glaze the pieces so they're food safe. I think we're going to take a longer course the next time! read more

I am by no means an artsy person, and I nearly failed my high school ceramics class. Despite this, The Spinning Wheel ATX did a wonderful job guiding me through both wheel throwing and hand-building despite my background! I came here for a friend's birthday party with a very large group (all young adults), and I was pleasantly surprised with the experience. They first gave us a tour of the entire space, including the multitude of art projects that we could sign up for on a regular day. We then split into groups to switch off between wheel throwing and hand-building. The staff who led the wheel throwing were extremely patient and encouraging - they gave me new clay when I messed up on my first attempt at a bowl, and they went around to each of us to make sure we were getting the techniques. I didn't feel rushed at all, and I was able to continue working on my second bowl even after the rest of my group had switched to hand-building. Hand-building was a lot more therapeutic, and we could be as creative with the clay as we wanted to be. I even ended up having enough time to make two pieces! Rakhi was incredibly encouraging and did a great job in keeping the mood fun. Even when I didn't know what to start with, she offered to make me a clay duck starter template to build on. She also made sure to take lots of pictures and videos of us, which was super sweet. Finally, they opened up their main room for us to eat lunch and cake. There is plenty of seating in the main room, so even our group didn't take up the entire space. The parking lot is very small, but the staff directed some who couldn't find parking to another lot. For the two hours of wheel throwing and hand-building, it was about $45 per person. For the hand-built pieces, if we choose, it's an extra $35 to return to glaze them (which makes them look nice and food-safe). The wheel pieces have the glazing included with the price - that makes it $80 for a minimum of two finished pieces, which is a pretty good deal! In my opinion, the staff were the highlight of the experience. They were extremely professional, patient, and energetic, despite none of us having pottery experience. I can say for certain that I look forward to coming back to finish my two hand-built pieces! read more

There are many different types of art/craft to choose from depending on the level/patience/interest of the kids. The owner does a great job of keep everyone (including the parents) engaged. Excited, we get to be the first to review this amazing new gem in Leander. No longer having to travel long distances to get creative. We stumbled upon The Spinning Wheel by my daughter noticing the bright wheels (obviously), then we took a chance and walked in one day just to explore and see what the place was about. Rakhi, the owner was amazing from the second we walked in. She guided us through the whole shop and explained each form of design/art. My daughter and I were in awe. We have since done some ceramics as a family, which was a super chill, low stimulation (electronics wise) activity to engage in on a Friday afternoon. So if you are looking for an activity to do with your partner or kids this is absolutely it! Also don't worry about your creative side being a little rusty, the staff has your back.
