Today my son and his cheer team came here for a group outing with approximately 17 people. Prior to making an appointment here (unless you have scheduled a class where the themes are already selected), you are to choose the design of your plank as the designs are made on an industrial sized sign machine. When you arrive, you are given instructions on how to distress your board (with provided hammers), how to sand your board (with provided sandpaper, and then how to paint and stencil your board. The process takes about two hours from start to finish to paint/stain and dry your creation. This a good place for a date night, mother/daughter daddy/daughter group event. *for adults libations are allowed.

This place is awesome for Date Night, Friends Couples Night, Friends Birthday Celebrations, any gathering, and even that single person wanting to do something fun instead of binge watch Netflix. Rochelle and her team give the right amount of coaching to ensure you create the best sign with even limited ability. There are so many signs and designs to choose from - and don't worry if you can't see your name - they customize it for you. You do not need previous skills - they talk you through it step by step. Take some wine with you and turn it into a party. I'll be back - many times!

The event post noted one price and when we got to the event, we were told it would cost extra to glaze the bowl which was a necessary step make the clay piece food-safe. We were making dog bowls so of course we wanted them to be food-safe but it was a bummer that we would have to pay an additional fee on top of what we had already paid. I was charged more than others in my group! We were instructed to make our bowls outside on the picnic tables which weren't flat surfaces. The event poster also stated that we could shape our clay by hand or use the spinning wheel. The spinning wheels weren't even offered to us. Overall, I attended this event to make new friends and create something nice for my dog. I accomplished both so that was a win! While I most likely won't come back, this business is a fun concept that is great for groups of young children and I even saw a mother bring in her young daughter with her to glaze pottery together which was so sweet but the pricing and timing to pick up your artwork could be clearer. Also parking is very limited so park next door at the gymnasium.

But their selection of paint and pottery is awesome. I also like the way they allow you to get your own paint unlike some places that limit you to colors. They have really cute pieces to paint and seems like they have a lot of seasonal switch ups which is appreciated. We did a cute little butterbell and it turned out so good!

Plus, I may…read morebe a little biased because my parents used to run a paint it yourself ceramic shop when I was growing up. So places like this are very nostalgic for me. It's very small on the inside, compared to other do-it-yourself ceramic shops that I've been to. But honestly, I found that quite quaint and cozy. I find that their ceramic pieces were pretty affordable compared to some of the other ceramic shops I've been to in Austin. They have their paints separated by brights and detailed versus more earthy tone colors. And unfortunately, they tell you that you shouldn't mix them because they won't come out looking good. So you have to figure out what you want your piece to look like before hand, bright with small details? Or more earthy tones? My husband went with the bright and details, while my friend and I decided to go for earthy tones. My husband painted a wall switch plate, I painted a feather bowl, and my friend painted a mug. They were all done and ready to be picked up about a week and a half later. And they came out great! I enjoyed myself, and my husband and I have already discussed coming back perhaps for a date day :)

My husband proudly announces he can't draw a stick figure, so this was definitely out of his comfort zone, but he willingly joined in the surprise. There are a number of paintings available on different nights, so the first step is to pick the one you want to do. From there, everything is set up for you with a plate of paint colors, a primed canvas, brushes and instruction. There's no presumption that you actually know what to do and Rodd, our instructor explained everything in plain English - not artsy lingo - so that you can follow along. Both instructors were there when you made a mistake or needed assistance or more paint and they were patient through the process. Neither of our paintings will end up in a fancy gallery, but we were happy with our finished works and the two hour class went at the right pace.

The experience lasted a little under an hour (but your time will vary). It was an art medium we had never tried before and it's fun to have this place in Pflugerville. The owner also sells paintings and jewelry from local artists, and other small items. It looks like he's offering a summer camp as well. The only negative thought I have is that you have to sign a waiver AFTER you pay (and there are no refunds, but you can reschedule). It would be nice to have the waiver beforehand to know exactly what you have to agree to in order to participate in the experience. The waiver was pretty standard (permission to use photos on social media, resin is sticky and can make a mess, etc), but I didn't like that I didn't know about the waiver and wasn't able to read it until we had paid. There is also not an OPT-OUT option for the permission to use photos, which is not okay with me, but since we had already paid, I was only going to object if pictures were taken. Luckily, there were no pics taken during our time, so it's a non issue, but it could be for some people. Overall, it's a great new art space!
