Veggie omelette with homefries and sourdough toast
    Heather Marie V.

It was more of a 3.5 dining experience for me, but bumping up to 4 because of the service. I had some time to kill between appointments at Rush across the street and thought breakfast for lunch (not brunch ha!) sounded good. There is a lot of seating inside and it has a fun vibe thanks to the bright posters and art on the walls. The menu is large with plenty of sweet AND savory options. However, if you're a vegetarian who doesn't want something sweet or something eggy, you're going to be hard up for something to order. As much as I love waffles, the waffle options seemed way too decadent for what I wanted at lunch. You can get a regular buttermilk waffle, but it was pricey for what it was. I ended up ordering a veggie omelette and was pleased that it came with homefries and toast, so I wouldn't have to order them a la carte. The omelette was well-made with the eggs cooked to a perfect consistency, but could have used some more flavor. The veggies weren't mushy (which is easy when you're not paying attention). The homefries came in this little basket that looked like a mini fryer basket. It was cute, but hard to add sauce consistently on top. They were seasoned well enough and nice and crispy, but there was an odd flavor to them. It seemed like they might have been cooked in animal fat or in the same pan as meat. If they are, they need to disclose that for folks who don't eat meat. I opted to only eat a few. The toast wasn't pre-buttered, but at least the butter on the table was spreadable. My server was prompt and friendly without being overbearing, considering there weren't many customers. They also kept me well hydrated by filling up my water frequently. Given the food and the questionable taste/cooking method of the potatoes, I found it to be overpriced. I will find a different spot next time I'm in the area.

The food was delicious! Our server Sabina was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave us some pointers on having savory and sweet for breakfast. The food came out pretty fast as well. It really seemed like it was all hands on deck. The team was helping each other out to give a great service. The place is well decorated.

I was looking for a breakfast spot while I was in Chicago and waffles sounded perfect. A little too cold for outdoor seating, but if you're in the mood, they offer outdoor seating. Plenty of seating indoors. Colorful artwork on the walls. Full bar. Nice variety of waffles to choose from on the menu. I ordered a pumpkin latte and the pumpkin waffles. Latte was a little small, but tasted good. The pumpkin waffles come with a scoop of pistachio ice cream on top, with a dollop of whipped cream on my plate. Delicious. The waffles were warm and crisp. Very happy with my choice. The staff were good; did their job well. Walked here from the hotel, so can't say much about parking, except that there is paid street parking right in front of the restaurant and across the street. So if you're looking for waffles, I recommend this place. Good for families, too.

This is a nice chill place to eat for that comforting ambiance and decent food. We were seated right away with no wait. I don't know if that's usually the case for the morning, but I did go during the Hot Chocolate Run, so Michigan Ave was closed off the traffic. Our server was nice and accommodating. They didn't have anything that was directly vegan, but he directed my boyfriend on what he should get for a vegan meal. I also was able to add blueberry compote to my original Belgian waffles, which I loved. I also got a side of bacon. I left having enjoyed my meal, but I wasn't full, and I do wish the food came out a bit warmer. Overall, I'd go back!

I came here with a group of friends. The menu is quite extensive with a lot of sweet and salty brunch/lunch items, so there's something for everyone. We got the waffle flight which came with red velvet, liege, chocolate and matcha. They were all quite good. They were fluffy and not too sweet with nice toppings. However, everything else was just okay. The meat lover's scramble and the omelette were solid, but nothing special. I got the shakshuka, which was more like a broth/soup than a shakshuka. It was a little odd to have poached eggs floating in broth. I would probably stick with the waffles if I come back here. The ambience of the place is very lively and the decor is quite eclectic and colorful. It's a very cheerful and bustling place. The service was pretty fast even though there were a lot of people that day.

Chicago Waffles has SO many options for breakfast! There's something for everyone. I had the Hungry Man, which was a waffle sandwich with stuffed with a an omelette (egg, cheese, turkey sausage, red pepper and onion). I chose this because it was one of the only menu items served with fruit. The filling/omelette was AMAZING. The waffle on the other hand was pretty dry, and didn't have any flavor. The fruit was good and fresh. My mom had the egg white chicken omelette. It didn't look very appetizing, but she enjoyed it. It was full of chicken; they weren't stingy on the meat. It came served with potatoes and a side of pancakes. Potatoes were really good! Like the waffles, pancakes were dry , a little flavorless and not very fluffy. They likely came from the same batter. Service good - they had a packed house but we were able to get seated outside pretty quick - which was nice except an aggressive bee hovering over our table basically as soon as our food arrived. My guess is he was attracted to the syrup (but of course that's not their fault). Our waitress was very nice. Prices were reasonable. Overall, the food was okay. Though I was disappointed with the pancake and waffle, with the amount of people there and the constant takeout orders, I assume it was just a bad batch. I'd go back to try some of the other things on the menu.

Chicago Waffles - Brunch Review Weekend brunch at Chicago Waffles can get extremely busy, so if they allow online reservations, that's definitely the way to go. On our visit, it was raining and since there's limited space inside, the waiting area quickly turned into a bit of a chaotic crush. It was loud and packed, but our waiter Chad handled it with grace--he was kind, and apologized for the delay in getting our food. Honestly, with how swamped they were, I can't blame him. Once the food came out though, it was worth the wait--absolutely delicious! You can tell this place would be a total gem if you catch it when it's not slammed. I'd definitely go back--just maybe on a weekday.

Great service and food! Went here after my 5K race due to the location. I ordered an expresso martini and the short rib skillet. The drink was delicious! The skillet was seasoned well and the short ribs were nice and tender. Luckily despite it being busy my friends and I were seated not too long after arriving. I enjoyed my brunch and definitely will be back.

Amazing food, great ambience and excellent service. Gary (manager) was very kind and accommodating. Thank you, Gary for making our special event more memorable. We have visited this place several times, when we are in Chicago. It's one of the best breakfast places in Chicago, and is our favorite place to visit!

While visiting family in Chicago I asked where the best place to get breakfast / brunch close by. Chicago Waffles! When the locals love it ... it's gonna be good. This place didn't disappoint. Great food ,outstanding waffles. Also had a bagel with smoked salmon that was very good. They don't skimp on portion size or quality. The place is right off Michigan Ave in the South Loop. Kind of a diner but a couple steps up from really being a diner... has a cool vibe and sort of eclectic atmosphere with very friendly service. I really enjoyed it !

Unfortunately none of us particularly enjoyed anything we got. All of our drinks just tasted like milk (both iced and hot options) and my croissant was oddly sweet because of the filling and I didn't love that. The pastries are actually being shipped in from elsewhere (they have exactly the same one in coffee shops out in Naperville too lol). Which leaves nothing special here. It's also very small so it gets crowded and swamped pretty fast. You're really constantly stepping out of someone's way when you're just waiting for you order, so that's not ideal either. Likely won't return.

I had been enjoying the city after a day of shopping and dinner at Joe's. A friend recommended this lovely bar/lounge. We are not from these parts of the U.S. and love to explore. This lounge is on the second floor of the Chicago Athletic Association building. Part of the Hyatt chain. I was warmly greeted by host and placed next to an old fireplace in front of the bar area. I was seated facing the entire lobby. I was enjoying the Gothic architecture. It was dark and a soothing atmosphere. I appreciated the appropriate music playing as well. It was a perfect way to end my day. I had a glass of champagne and my server recommended the Basque cheesecake. Which was perfect cause I recently visited San Sebastian, Spain. The Basque region makes a great cheesecake. The burned caramelized top complimented my champagne well. There is a room/bar in the back room of where I was. A great bar with games and TVs for sports. After enjoying my nightcap, I walked downstairs and was able to order a ride-share and wait in the warm entry of the building. The Drawing Room is in the lobby of the hotel. The first day at the hotel, my friend and I had a breakfast reservation (which we're thankful we did, as it was quite busy) and we sat at a table where the chairs were comfortable but it was too low to comfortably eat at the table. I felt like I was almost stretching and standing when eating. We requested a different type of table the next day when we can back for breakfast. We both ordered the Classic Breakfast consisting of two eggs, Nueske's bacon, breakfast sausage, breakfast potatoes, and sourdough toast. There were options available for gluten free toast and egg white though we didn't opt for that. I did ask for all bacon. The next day, I ordered a Breakfast Sandwich, regularly including chicken breakfast sausage, fluffy eggs, American cheese, house-made english muffin, and green salad (with gluten free toast option). I chose bacon instead of sausage and cheddar instead of American cheese. Both breakfasts were rather good. Unfortunately the dinner wasn't as delightful as a meal as the breakfasts. The chairs were fine and the place wasn't too busy (and we had a reservation) though when we sat down, it was as if we were forgotten as no one came to our table for quite some time. We then realized we weren't too excited about the menu, so we instead when to the nearby Game Room for a bite while watching a basketball game on TV. We were given welcome beverage certificates good for free bubbly at the Game Room though those were also honored at the Game Room. The Drawing Room lobby spaces are open 24 hours daily though guests can order breakfast daily from 7 AM to 11 AM, Monday through Thursday for lunch and dinner from 11 AM to 11 PM, Friday and Saturday from 11 AM to 12 Midnight (though the kitchen closes at 11 PM), and Sunday from 11 AM to 9 PM. You can visit the Drawing Room website at https://www.drawingroomchicago.com, where you can find menus, private event information, reservations, social media links, and more. You can also sign up for restaurant updates at the bottom of the page. While I wouldn't discourage anyone to go to the Drawing Room, it wasn't among our favorite restaurants at the Chicago Athletic Association or nearby the hotel.

I'll begin by mentioning the drinks tasted great & the ambiance/overall esthetic and setup of this space is really wonderful. Unfortunately, my low review is because of the obvious distastefulness of some staff who are serving & bartending here. My guests visiting from out of state wanted a stiff drink in the afternoon & from the website photos + reviews, Vol 39 seemed like an awesome place that could accommodate our party with the large sofa seating. I even called ahead to ask about walk-ins of our size to be extra considerate. We received shocking dagger glares from a few staff members which made all eight of us immediately uncomfortable before even being sat. Like we were committing a major crime for thinking we could step foot in here. Empty stack of glasses slammed on the table with a water pitcher placed beside them; "I'll be right back." In a sharp tone. Ok. But not if we're paying $20 per person per cocktail. We were rushed and this attitude persisted, it is lazy.. especially given it was extremely slow.. super surprising for such an elevated establishment. Then, after a long while, we were all asked what we wanted to drink, like a fast casual burger joint. No, "any questions about our selections" or, "may I give some suggestions?" Never came by to check on us once despite the three other two tops inside. We wrapped it up fast since we definitely could choose another location with more attentiveness & basic kindness. We paid, a hefty gratuity in small print on the check which.. you guessed it.. was automatically included but no mention of this tidbit by the server. Maybe this is why we revived all this mean girl energy from the jump? Because they'll still get paid really well regardless? All eight of us have been a part of the service industry and this one stuck out extra frustrating & annoying. Never leave a low review, I'm writing today to management because they will ruin your repeat clientele, seriously. People can find another fabulous cocktail with way better service & vibes in the city. Overall, it was a shame my friends experienced this gross behavior today in the fabulous city of Chicago. Hope the staff does better in the future and works on improving their outlook.

Just so genuinely kind! To start, we got the truffle gnocchi. Oh my goodness this was the MOST soft and pillowy gnocchi I've EVER had in my entire life. I don't think anything can beat the texture. Not tooo truffle-y either, which is great for folks that don't want to be drowned by that flavor. We also tried the toast royale. It was huge hunks of sourdough griddled with beef fat. This made for a very umami bite with that caramelized shallot butter on the side, but it was a bit heavy for us given how many other carbs we've already ordered. I'd definitely recommend getting this if you're with a big group! The star of the show - Oliver's cheeseburger. Now I'm not one that enjoys salt. This burger was SALTY... and I loved it??!! The salt comes from the 5 year aged cheddar and their sauce, which gave it such a rich and full bite. Drinks were well-made, the music kept the room energized, and there was always something going on that pulled everyone into the moment. I also loved how organized the karaoke setup was. Being able to add songs without waiting around made the experience feel seamless, and it helped keep the energy flowing. I'd absolutely come back and recommend it to anyone looking for a fun, relaxed place to hang out and enjoy some good music and good company.
