Ron and his crew have always been good in the Q. They've been around as a bait and tackle shop for years prior to being a FFL. Ron fought hard to establish the sportsman's den and has slowly renovated over the years and turned it into a clean gunshop while still maintaining the bait and fishing supply side. The crew there is knowledgeable and always nice to deal with. Whether you are looking for self defense items, firearms, rifles, optics, knives, accessories and cleaning kits, it's a one stop shop. Will always pop in, there's usually always a regular there or a police officer etc picking up some personal gear! I've been dealing with Ron and the rest of the guys at the Sportsman's Den for about 9 months now and couldn't be happier. Everyone is very knowledgeable and polite. They're friendly and professional too. I have purchased several guns here now and every transaction was great. Ammo prices are good (despite what other reviews are claiming). Gun prices are also very fair. Any time I have compared their price for new stock to other shops, they've been within 5-10%, or in some cases slightly lower. Their prices on used guns beats most others too, but that's harder to compare. All in all I can't recommend them enough. If you're a beginner with questions, they'll make you feel welcome and help you out. I'm not an old expert yet, but I imagine they'll help me get there. read more

I've been going to the Sportsmen's Den for three years now. Purchased three rifles and four hand guns there....also did a trade that was very generous towards me. Thanks Ron!!! I've even brought my boss along too, and he bought five guns and a beautiful Henry Rifle, plus a host of accessories over two years! Ron and Joe are great guys. They always have time to take your questions, or help tweak a weapon for you without making you feel like a dope. The prices are the best in the state...better than Four Seasons and much better than Hunters. Ammunition is low... just as good as a New Hampshire shop. I disagree with the guy who said AR-15 magazines were $80.00...they are $30.00 and still cheaper than many other shops... I've bought four. The experience at Ron's place is the best. It is not a shuffle in, buy and get out. You really feel like a valued customer, amongst fellow hobbyists, LEOs and sportsmen. Never an up sell, and always fair when comparing this-to-that. Very unlike Four Seasons. Keep it local and support the cause. I sometimes go in just to say hi and buy a couple boxes of ammo. It was my first gun buying experience. First thing that seemed off was the men and police officer in there with no mask on chatting away. That should of been a red flag from the start. I asked the person behind the counter, tall guy with gray hair, black shirt and blue jeans, Ron/owner, if I needed the physical copy of my permit because I know for sure I have the digital card. I doubled checked and I do have it. I go to examine and asked for a specific one on their website. Ron rudely said "no, we don't carry that and that if I don't know that guns and ammo are on back order then you must have been living under a rock." Then he ran away to the back as I was saying "is that how you treat your customers?" I left the establishment. Ok. Thanks for insulting your customer. Do you feel better? So much for a great first time experience. I will not go back here again even if they do have it at a discount. I will NOT recommend. The prices are good and competitive with most of the other shops in the area. I purchased a firearm from them and saved about $25 over other shops in the area. I second everyone who said owner and employee were nice people. This is my first time buying a gun as a relatively new LTC holder. They were professional and accommodating. I purchased a Sig Sauer 320C-9-BSS-MS-MA from them. Both the owner and the employee gave helpful advice throughout the purchase process (especially with the forms). I also double checked the price of the Sig Sauer 320C-9-BSS-MS-MA and can confirm they offered a very reasonable price for it. Next time if they have a full sized Sig Sauer 320 with a longer barrel, I would definitely consider buying it from them. read more

I brought my husband in today and he could not believe the wealth of information they provide with a good selection of product to get us started with this new hobby. They were able to provide recommendations for instructors to get us started with the initial learning process. This shop does not try to hard sell you anything, they simply answer your questions you get a no pressure shopping experience that you decide what is best for your needs. I drop in every now and then. These guys are pretty cool. Ron's always busy trying to get more ammo on the phone (because of the shortage), but he's definitely not a bad dude. The younger fella always talks to me and always seems upbeat. I think that's because he works a job he enjoys. He always gives it to me straight. I want to be fair to these folks and say that I have purchased guns and ammo here in the past, along with accessories like targets, holsters, and gun cleaning supplies. They are friendly people to deal with, and a lot of the guys from my gun club (Braintree rifle and pistol club) get their stuff here too. I am venting my frustration at their inability to get handgun ammunition in stock. I realize that the situation is out of their control, and that the problem is universal around the country. It's not their fault, but they are the ones facing the gun community and telling us they have nothing to sell us. I'm sure this is hurting their business, and they would gladly sell ammo if they had it. I wish they had some sort of email alert they could send their customers to notify the regulars when they have a shipment delivered. If you take care of your customers, they will take care of you too. I support local businesses, and would be happy to see these guys thrive and do well. I just wish I felt that they are being pro active and fighting for their customers with the ammo companies and distributors. read more

In my top 2 for shops in the Boston metro area. Very friendly & good prices. I actually got the best price I have seen in a while on .22 ammo. $39 for a box of 500 Remington Thunderbolt rounds. Thats under $0.08 per round! Considering how hard it is to get .22 rounds these days, he could have thrown another $10+ on the box. They had a few nice guns a decent prices that I may have to go back now and consider... Recommended! read more

Nice guys but as stated previously their prices are absolutely absurd. Though they are a small independent business, when it comes to firearms and ammo in Massachusetts these shops have the power to charge whatever they want because you can not purchase ammunition online and the types of firearms you can purchase are very limited thanks to the AG of Mass. There are many other small shops operating under the same "free market" with prices substantially less than this place. But in general, the laws enacted by the AG have led to significant price gauging and you absolutely must shop around before buying anything. read more

BEST PRICES AND EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE If you're in the Boston area and are looking to purchase a firearm or fishing equipment, look no further. I stopped by just to show my friend some guns and noticed that they had the Ruger LCR 9mm in stock. The price they had was literally $50 cheaper than other placed I've called. The owner, Ron (super nice guy), said he purchases the guns wholesale so he's able to get them cheaper than if he were to buy individually from the manufacture. I came back a week later and decided to purchase it. I filled out the paperwork, but unfortunately, the NCIS server was acting funky and my background check couldn't go through. This is not the store's fault at all. Ron said the best he could do is call me the next day when the system was back up and then I can pick it up. The next day at 10am he calls me and tells me Im all set. I swing by, fill the paperwork again, the NCIS works again, and the gun is mine! He came from behind the counter and showed me a few IWB holsters that would work well with my new gun. I got a cheap swede holster but it fits my gun and is very comfortable to wear. Its always a great experience to swing by the Sportman's Den. Very knowledgable, great prices, great location, will definitely do business with them again. read more

What a great shop and Ron the owner and his sidekick Joe are the nicest most informative guys around. As a women I read a lot of negative stuff about gun shops and their attitude to women. Not at all the case here. They were welcoming and Ron stated he loves to have women come into the shop. They answered all my questions and then some. They are so knowledgeable. Didn't rush me at all! I had planned to visit another shop in the area which is a larger gun shop. I had not heard good things about customer service there but wanted to comparison shop. WELL~~ I ended up just going to the Den and purchasing my first gun as I had just gotten my license. I love the gun and brought a friend there today. The variety and prices of the firearms here are great. I have done some trade ins and actually got a descent price for my guns unlike most other shops. The staff knows everything and are not jerks( if you're a gin owner you know how some places are) about it customer service comes first here they know everything about the gun your looking or maybe looking for. This is the only place to go on the South Shore. Ron is a great guy any knows his stuff. I shop here for the guns and ammo but the place was originally set up as a bait and tackle shop. I had a problem with my Bushmaster and Ron was able to fix it for me in the store . Every time I go in there's always different new and used guns to chose from. It was only my second time going to sportsman's den but I've had a great experience both times. The first time the owner was showing me different guns. I told him from the beginning I was saving up and I was not purchasing that day. He totally understood but took the time to explain a bit about each. I am not sure why I am seeing these negative reviews saying the owner is rude. He may not be the most talkative guy in the world but that doesn't make someone rude. As for the second time I went in, I was helped by a younger guy who was great. We chatted about some different guns I was looking for (though they were out) and bought some 5.56. There was a 2 box limit for the federal green tip but I would not say the prices were crazy especially with the ammo shortage now a days. I'm still not sure why I am seeing all of these negative reviews all over google and yelp and quite frankly I don't believe most of them. read more

Ron The Owner is a great guy and will answer any questions you have. Being new to the gun scene can be very intimidating. while making my first purchase Ron answered all of my (probably ridiculous) questions without any signs of frustration. He didn't try to sell me on any gun in general but instead asked me questions on what i was looking to do and things like that. he is competitively priced and has discounted my bill on the occasional large purchase. I disagree with other reviews on here that say his ammo is overpriced. If you look at the dates on those reviews they are around the time of the unfortunate Connecticut school shooting and when The President made comments about gun control. These events led to everyone buying up ammo and causing a back order, ultimately spiking prices every where. This is a great shop with great workers. read more

DOES NOT STAND BY HIS WORK!!! Absolutely horrible gunsmith. I paid 115 bucks for dented and crushed night sights. I went in there to look one day and decided to buy a used Smith and Wesson 1911, I got the gun for a good price and ordered a set of tritium night sights to go with it. I live in West Bridgewater so its kind of a hike but i figured Ron, the owner, was a nice guy it was worth it. Anyways he called me when the sights came in, I drove up dropped the gun off on Wednesday and he told me it would be ready Saturday. So Saturday i went and picked it up i noticed the front sight post was bent I commented on it and he told me the guy who owned it before me messed up the dovetail, so naturally i believed him. I went home showed it to my father in law who has been collecting guns for over 35 years and he immediately pointed out where Ron hit the sight post with the drift pin to bend the front sight post. I took it back and asked them to fix it, they said they would. Went back to pick it up one day after work i barely made it on time grabbed the gun and ran,went home and threw it in the safe. Flash forward three months i finally have time to go shooting go to the range. I was at the range when i realized my front sight wasn't glowing at all, i looked at it and realized he crushed the tritium insert. I brought it back to have the sight replaced the guy working the counter recognized me and my gun and knew immediately what i was talking about. Ron came out took one look at the sight and told me sorry no warranties on sights. I pointed out the dents, told him i hadn't even fired the gun. He told me that i couldn't prove he did it, again i pointed out the dents. He laughed at me,actually laughed and said sorry no warranties on sights. read more
