As we entered, we were greeted by an employee who told us that if we had any questions then we could ask anytime. We were just browsing at the moment and saw that they had a huge collection of board games to look at. I loved their Halloween decorations in the store! One issue we had was when we wanted to check out the TCG section but it is in a separate room with a locked door. We wanted to go in but the employee was busy at the moment so we had to wait several minutes before we could go in. It felt awkward for us as we didn't want to interrupt or rush the employee but after waiting, the employee was kind enough to open the door and let us look around. We got a One Piece pack and while we were purchasing, we were told that they have a rewards program that is free to join so we decided to join that too in case we come back. The prices seem fairly priced so it is definitely a great spot to buy board games or TCGs.

They were selling some zygard collection boxes at retail and we snatched those up! Also 6 packs at retail also!? Sure. There were some things that were market but what do expect? They didn't have shelves of sealed Costco product so I was happy and willing to spend my money here. Happy we did, ripped some great packs from here. Small collection of loose bulk but a large arrange of things. Day 1 was busy, lots of staff, lots of customers; day 2, no staff, back log of customers, but the staff that was there was hustling. I want to give a big shout to this shop before it decamps for Beaverton…read more Rune & Board came into Hillsboro at a time when Hillsboro retail didn't cater to anyone under the age of, oh, 55 and certainly didn't address the interests of broad swaths of the city's population. R&B made it clear that not only were there a ton of gamers in the area whose needs weren't being addressed whatsoever, but that a knowledgeable staff and a stable space were all that was needed to give that community a home. Also, to be so inclusive of women that my longtime gamer buddy's wife was stunned when she walked in and was not only one of several women in the building, but the only one not actively buying or playing... that's how you start to need double the space. I'll admit, I don't like seeing this place go and I'm not a fan of the trend I'm seeing. We lost the town's only bookstore to Beaverton. Retro Game Store's gaming club and Gongali also moved from west of 185th to Beaverton. If Hillsboro and Forest Grove can't find the space for businesses like these--the ones that actually build communities, create third spaces, and encourage people here to join in and become part of something--they're going to keep losing both business and interest to Beaverton, Portland, and other places that are generally more encouraging. Thank you for my cherished copy of King of Tokyo, more Warhammer gifts than I likely should've purchased my friend, and all of the hours you set up shop for your regulars and newcomers. Came here because it was close to work, and my friends were always mentioning the name. My little…read moreone unfortunately has gotten into Pokémon cards so I came here in search for some, but there was no booster packs available when I got there (like most places). I will say being a 1990s kid all the stuff in the store was so cool. A lot of the toys shows and cards I used to collect and play with when I was little was all over the store and also it was really cool to see a whole section for people who actually played the trading card games to be able to battle and what not with each other. It was also really cool that they had a bunch of cards display that you could buy and also a lot of bolt cards in case you were trying to complete a collection which I may look into if my toddlers interest continues.

Oh, I don't go inside, I wait in the car scrolling my socials and taking selfies and then ooh and ah over his purchases while he explains refractors and grading and colors and bits of bats or jerseys. I'm sure he says other stuff...The Sportsroom has had a few different owners and the latest has been there for over a year. After taking a long break between owners, we're back to visiting about every week. It is nice to see someone who seems to enjoy what they're doing who genuinely wants to make visits to the Sportsroom a positive experience.

One of the older employees wrote numbers on sticky notes and placed them on my cards. He offered me $600 for a stack worth around $1,000, so I politely declined. Immediately after, he aggressively ripped the sticky notes off my cards, walked away, and completely ignored me. He didn't say another word or even look at me. On my way out, I still said "thanks," but got no response. It's sad to see people like this representing the hobby. If you're looking to trade cards or buy boxes, I'd recommend going somewhere else. Hoody's, 1 Stop, and Orb all have much better customer service than this place. This business does not deserve your cards or your money.

That said, these guys always had everything I needed--controls, new track, extensions--and always had product I could inspect. No shipping/return ping-pong with online sellers. But what I've grown to love best about them is their outright disdain for the lowest form of "hobbyist": The drone bro. Call it a "multicopter" all you'd like, pal, but your cheap piece of plastic trash is, at best, flying camera gear and, at worst, a suburban air rights debate just waiting to be solved in the most hostile way possible. I'm pleased that Hillsboro Hobby has never catered to these plugs, and I wish them continued success in selling the exact type of anti-air countermeasures that make these guys think twice about flying them over residential areas.
