We were referred to the Spot Gourmet to cater our wedding last weekend and they did not disappoint. We decided on a Cal-Spanish theme and the food was absolutely delicious. They began the cocktail hour with passed appetizers of herbed pork and beef meatballs in a chimichurri sauce, cumin spiced french fries served in a paper cone with a roasted tomato aioli, and shrimp fritters. Having gone to culinary school myself, I was apprehensive about how the fries would turn out, but, like the pros that they are, it was fried on "the spot" so it was completely fresh! Seriously, everyone at the cocktail hour was talking about the food. Funny when the food upstages the couple! They then passed around small cups of crab bisque just before dinner that was velvety and rich. Can I say scrumptious? The dinner menu hit an even higher note of praise: Mixed baby greens and endive salad with caramalized pears, manchego cheese, candied pecans in a walnut vinaigrette, Pesto crusted salmon with a lemon creme sauce, slow roasted tri-tip with a pomegranate rioja sauce, paella, scalloped potatoes and sauteed baby vegetables. Everything was AMAZING! I cannot even describe the moments of bliss that we had eating (and yes, we sat down and ate!). The food is well seasoned, which translates into BIG flavor. This is food with soul. Several people came up to us throughout the evening to tell us that it was the best food at any wedding they ever had! And we've all been to weddings with bland chicken and uninspired beef to know that you should spend your money where it counts, and that my fellow yelpers is the Spot Gourmet....and some top shelf booze! On top of it all, they were so professional and kind. Their catering manager, Leroy, was a gem. He timed everything and guaged the evening perfectly so that everything ran smoothly. Do you need a caterer? Do not hesitate to hire The Spot! They are seriously top notch. And we got them on super short notice, like a week. I assisted in a charity event, a wine tasting benefiting the Ronald McDonald House. The chairs lost their caterer last minute and someone recommended The Spot. We had a caterer show up, set up an amazing crudite bar, cook some yummy appetizers and clean up...all without incident and for a great price. What did we eat? Chicken salad on plantains (totally addicting), caprese bites, absolutely yummy tuna tartare on won ton chips. Really, the food was top notch. It was perfect. I can only imagine that for a more large scale event, they do just as great. The folks in admin were very easy to deal with, which is a nice departure from high maintenance catering types. We recently planned a dinner party at my home in the Miracle Mile. Because of concerns about Covid-19, we changed the guest list several times and ultimately ended-up turning the evening into a Zoom dinner. As a result, the menu had to be revised more than once and the food assembled for multiple homes. Throughout all the changes, Vanessa and her team at The Spot were incredibly patient and kind. The Spot catered our wedding and we loved-loved-loved it. I guess the food is most important, technically, and it hit the mark and then some - lula lamb balls with curry mint aioli, moroccan shrimp with pomegranate aioli, home-made (I said HOME-MADE - you can really taste the difference!) mini-spanikopitas, 24-hour pork roast with chimichurri sauce (I hear we went through a gallon of it), moist and tender chicken rubbed with fresh herbs and served with a tomato coulis, heirloom tomato salad, orzo with tasty treats... our guests couldn't stop raving about it, and we couldn't stop eating it. One big difference from most wedding (or even just catered) food was that everything was incredibly flavorful - fresh herbs, strong cheeses, garlic, ripe tomatoes - they really respect the ingredients and work with what they have, not just what the recipe says. (People say you don't eat at your wedding, but if the Spot caters it, you do.) Perhaps equally important is that the owners (Sid & Patty) are absolutely the nicest people in the world. They are genuinely excited about food and more than happy to run with whatever ideas you give them. What's more, they gave us a "catering coordinator" who ended up being more of a wedding coordinator, organizing rentals and setting up the room - and he, too, was a supremely good person. I didn't think they made people that nice in LA. Some people are probably skipping this paragraph, but seriously, when you're planning a wedding or even a big party, it can get stressful at times, and it makes such a difference to not have to work with jerks. Even their waitstaff was unusually pleasant and accommodating. If I ever throw a party again that's big enough to warrant catering, there is no way I would use anyone else. I was invited to a party in Beverly Hills catered by The Spot. They started the party with a continuous supply of coconut shrimp, mushrooms. fish pizza and the main course consisted of salad, breads, fish and amazingly well cooked beef. All I can say is "wow" when it comes to the catering from The Spot. Sadly my grandfather passed away last week and I had 3 days to find a caterer and plan 3 nights of receptions: 60 people on Friday night, 150 people on Saturday afternoon, and another 30 people on Sunday afternoon. I called on Tuesday with only minimal ideas of what we wanted, and somewhat in crisis mode. I called 3 other well-rated caterers on Yelp and was impressed how Dietra quickly got up to speed on what we needed and wanted. We ended up choosing The Spot because the menu and prices she planned were exactly what I envisioned. She listened to our needs and worked with me - rather than constantly trying to up-sell and figure out how to charge us more. On one day I told her we needed to cut down the total $500 and she took it down about $550 without any argument. The first night we had hot and cold appetizers, as well as a dessert station. The second day was fruit, green, and pasta salad; 4 different sandwiches; beverages; and desserts. The final day was a brunch with candied bacon to die for, along with a great frittata and French toast "casserole". The sauces that went with each item on the menu complimented them perfectly. We didn't want to worry about set up and clean up so we had the events staffed and The Spot arranged the rentals as well. Each day, they came in armed with just about anything that could have been needed - from platters to flower displays to trays for leftovers. Each day's presentations were excellent. Though I didn't plan on having bartenders, for 2 events the staff at the sight was willing and able to step in and man the bar. Everything they did was PERFECT! In all situations they made it work, they kept things clean and they were everywhere without being in anyone's way. No one had to worry about anything, the staff was punctual and friendly, and the food was excellent!! Everyone in my family was so pleased and complimented every part of their operation. Oh yeah. This place is amazing. Amazing soups (crab bisque & shrimp & corn chowder): I've never had a better bisque in my life, & I've had a lot of bisques. The shrimp & corn chowder is spicy & wonderful. Amazing 'Po' Boys' (Cat fish, & shrimp): Good bread, good reamoulade, good corn meal breaded shrimp. Amazing fries: They are fresh cut (not frozen) & seasoned just right. Amazing service: The waitress was so nice & accommodating. She even gave me a breakfast menu to look at & encouraged me to come back this weekend for brunch. With such selections as Maple oatmeal souffle &shrimp cake Benedict, I think I just might. My husband and I were over the moon with the service we received from The Spot Gourmet at our September wedding. The staff was professional and Patty (the owner) was very easy to work with. My hubby is quite the foodie and Patty was so kind to adjust a salt level here, or a butter level there to our liking. I enjoyed this place with I went with the guys to check this out for the first time. The food was great as everyone enjoyed there plate and the atmosphere was just amazing! Sadly I've only been there fore a light breakfast /lunch so I dont know how the bands are. They say the music can get very lively and exciting. We hired them for our wedding in Santa Monica and I gotta tell you that the food was great. The adjusted themselves to our tide budget and were able to deliver a quality meal everybody did enjoy. The person in charge of the catering menu is really serious and nice. She did a great job and both my wife and I appreciate it. Though, I would not give them more than 4 stars beacause the catering coordinator was not so good. He was really polite and nice to us, but we had some problems that were completely avoidable. It looks like it's been a while since anyone's reviewed the Spot, and I know they've since moved to Glendale, but I had such a great experience with their catering services this weekend that I had to review them. I booked them for an event at a private home for the donors of the nonprofit I work for, and they were great-- Patty worked within my budget (about $20 a person for heavy apps and dessert bites) and was able to provide all the odds and ends in addition to the food-- it was plated nicely, glasses and plates were provided for a very reasonable fee, and all the other napkins/ice/limes for our bar were provided. In the case of the limes, I didn't even think to ask for them-- the chef/server just brought them for us. He also brought extras of everything in case we ran low. There was plenty of food even though there were more guests than we expected. I really appreciated that I didn't have to worry about anything at all-- they took care of everything, set it all up, and let me enjoy the party. I couldn't have been more pleased. read more

First and foremost I must say the Spot is absolutely amazing. They catered our wedding on 1/3/2015 at the Castle Green and all of our guests raved about the food. Usually when guests talk about a wedding they do not say much about the food - not at our wedding. Two weeks later I still have guests telling me how good the food was at our wedding. it was "spot on". We were referred to the spot by some of my mom's friends and I am so glad they were able to cater the wedding. As my mom said, she has found her new favorite caterer. Not only was the food amazing, but Patty allowed us to bring in our own alcohol which allowed us to save on some of the cost. We were able to drop this off a couple days before the wedding which also allowed us to be a little less stressed the day of the wedding. Finally, Patty and Mark went above and beyond. They were extremely busy over the holiday season and yet they still made the time to meet us at the venue to complete a final walk-thru before the wedding. This team is very well put together and everyone I spoke to from beginning to end did nothing but help. Did an excellent job on our company holiday party at Montrose Bowl! The food was delicious, the service top-notch and the presentation was just perfect. All of our staff remarked and continues to remark about how much they loved the food. Planning: was easy. They offered several menu options to choose from that matched our event well. They adapted easily last-minute adjustments on set-up and prep at the space. Our server was gracious, engaged, totally approachable and on-top of every detail. She refreshed stations quickly, and her set up allowed for good flow. We never had crowding or congestions at the food tables. Basically, the in terms of the food, the night was seamless. Taste: Our group LOVED the mini-cheeseburgers, the artichoke dip, the bread pudding and the chocolate mousse shots the most. I had been to an event years ago where The Spot did the catering and the food was really delicious. I decided to give them a try for a fundraiser we did for about 25 people. I have to say, everything was really great. We did light appetizers and they were very flexible in the various menus they offered. We opted to have one of their Chefs (Eric) be there to prepare the food and that worked out really well. Eric was professional, attentive, knowledgeable and helpful in all kinds of ways. The food was really delicious. The pulled pork sliders were really good, the artichoke dip was amazing, the chicken and artichoke skewers were not dry. The price was also reasonable -- especially for the amount of food they provided. All-in-all, it was very good. I will definitely consider using them again in the future. read more

As a musician, I had worked parties were The Spot Gourmet was catering and had always found that their staff was the friendliest and their food the tastiest and most attractively presented. When I got engaged, I knew this was the caterer I wanted and they did not disappoint. Good food was a priority for our wedding, so I didn't mind spending a little more to get good quality and excellent service. I worked with Vanessa to get our menu sorted out and Chris Adams was our event manager for the day. Both were excellent. We had a brunch reception and all the food was perfect. Their signature French Toast Bread Pudding was a highlight, and many guests also raved about their brussel sprout salad. We also had lots of comments on how excellent the serving staff was. Both were absolutely delicious. The chicken was moist and perfectly prepared. It all came with reheating instructions that were clear and easy to follow. The set up was lovely, the appetizers were amazing, the staff was helpful and friendly and needed absolutely no supervision by us. Above all, the food was by far the best catered food I have ever eaten. People could not get enough of the gnocchi especially. One friend of mine probably ate 2 pounds himself. We still have some of the chicken in the freezer, a meal I am very much looking forward to. Stay away from this one! Food is poor quality and service unprofessional. Not even close to value for the money. I should have known something was wrong when I talked to one of the owners who told me the website I looked at to determine my order had been "out of service for years." Their site (which is still up) allows you to look at all menu items and compile your order, put in all your billing, but then just won't process. Eventually I placed my order for my work event by phone, following the advice of the owner on portions for my guest count. When the order arrived, the platters were sloppy (chicken skewers had been sliding all over so the platter looked filthy), and the vegetables were cut in large, chunky uneven portions. It all looked very unprofessional. It was also clear that things had been out in their car for some time. The stuffed mushrooms were literally tiny button mushrooms! So the order size recommended to me sat in the middle of the warming tray looking sadly too small (and they lasted for literally 2 minutes). Each guest got one tiny button mushroom. Ridiculous! The final straw was paying extra for disposable plates, cups and silverware, which I was assured looked like glass or crystal but were actually plastic. They forgot all of that and had to go back to "the shop" to get some. What they brought back were paper plates you could buy at a Vons. I had to pay even more to have my assistant run to Party City to pick up some items. This was a RIP-OFF! No follow-up or apology. Not even a refund for the plates and utensils. read more

I just used The Spot to cater my wife's 30th birthday party. Their food is fantastic as is their customer service. After I initially contacted The Spot, I got a call from them asking what kind of food we were looking for, how many people were attending the party, etc. I then got 3 potential menus as jumping off points for out personalized menu. I made a few additions and subtractions - and that was it. Everyone I talked to was very professional and very easy to work with. On the night of the party - the food showed up right on time displayed on a bunch of nice porcelain serving dishes, bowls, and chaffing dishes. Our party started a few hours after their latest delivery time (5pm - our party at 7pm) - but the food that needed re-heating came with simple reheating instructions so everything was hot and ready to go by the start of the party. You can also hire servers for the evening. We didn't do hire any to save on cost, although in hind sight I wish we had just so we wouldn't have to worry about the reheating. We'll definitely do that next time. I thought the price was really reasonable for the amount and quality of food we got (had a ton of leftovers.) And the desserts were great. I never write reviews of businesses but I was so impressed by The Spot I found it in me to do it this time. Couldn't recommend them more. read more

We recently held a small fundraising event which The Spot catered. We were on a very, very tight budget and The Spot did really an outstanding job. The event was just a couple of hours with hors d'oeuvres. For our very, very tight budget we were able pass great Italian Caprese Skewers, two types of empanadas (with guacamole), these amazing little cheese toasts which everyone gobbled up, AND we had piping hot artichoke dip with wonderful french bread. Everyone was very, very happy with the food and there was even a teeny bit left over. I am a believer that everyone likes to be spoiled at parties, even at budget minded fundraisers. These folks were fantastic caterers. I held a celebration of life for my recently departed partner. Spot Gourmet was thoughtful and caring. They worked with some significant food requirements and came up with great choices for sections of the nosh table that they prepared: gluten free; vegan; etc. The asparagus with gorgonzola wrapped in a salad leaf was fantastic. The oil drizzle was a nice extra touch. The fruit slices with passion fruit creme was excellent. And they make the best lemonade. For we red meat eaters, the roast beef sliders on mini Kaiser rolls were so good. They do funky mayo very well. Finally, they 2 servers were so nice, thoughtful, and respectful of the occasion. We hired The Spot for our wedding and definitely recommend them! We had many glowing recommendations for The Spot, and we're glad we listened! Every step of the process was enjoyable. Especially the tasting! There are so many choices at The Spot that even though we had an entirely vegetarian menu, there was no shortage of delicious options. The tasting was a great experience and we knew pretty quickly we didn't need to look anywhere else. We ended up ordering a reception lunch for 130 people as well as a combination of passed and stationary appetizers, which were all well serviced by their friendly and professional staff. Once during the reception, one of the staff members even checked in with us to make sure we were having a good time. Since our wedding was themed we worked with The Spot to design desserts that would fit the theme. They helped make our ideas a reality and also came up with a few of their own that worked perfectly. I joined Yelp specifically to give the Spot a negative review. Their customer service is horrid and I would NEVER order food here again. Maybe they are better with very large groups/orders (based on reading the prior reviews), but I would absolutely never deal with them again. They gave me the wrong order, lied on the phone when I complained. When I went back in person, they promised to fix it. They didn't fix it. Instead, they simply added a thin layer of red sauce over a white sauce lasagna (it was all supposed to be red sauce). They then lied about it again. I returned the uneaten food so they could see it wasn't eaten, yet they refuse to refund my money or respond to my email complaints. NEVER EVER use them for an important event. The comment below is absolutely false and a lie. My first groupon order as completely wrong and, despite their assertions that they would fix it, they never did. My second groupon was not honored, despite being redeemed before the deadline. We made an order, schedule a pick-up, and they did not actually prepare our order--I think it was retaliation for the first screw up on their part. After numerous emails from me trying to fix the problem, they just left us hanging. I still have not received the simple order of lasagna that I made years ago. This was by far the worst customer service of my life. read more

The Spot catered my daughter's wedding this summer, and I have to say that they were terrific. The food was unusual and delicious, and the service impeccable. When we left for the church/wedding, the tables and chairs were set up, but that was it. When we returned, the tables were set and decorated. We had left instructions, table cloths & toppers, candles, centerpieces, etc., and they took everything and just transformed the yard. We had passed appetizers and a buffet supper. Everything ran just perfectly on schedule. The crew and service were terrific -- timely and polite. They cut and served the cake (which we got elsewhere) amazingly fast. They left the kitchen, house and yard absolutely spotless. We had very little food left over, so they had planned well. It took us a little while to get the menu together; they aren't particularly fast on email. But Patty really worked with us to get a menu we liked. It was raining and they helped quests in the house, swept leaves from a corner of the roof when it started to leak ( seriously and under the pouring rain) Chris Adams was amazing, calm kind and always thinking ahead. We had a wedding party in May 2015 - we picked the Spot after doing our research and a tasting. First of all, they were more reasonably priced than many of their competitors. Second of all, they were AMAZING. Mark S. managed our event, and he was incredibly helpful from beginning to end - from planning, to setup, to the party itself - he even helped me fix my tie on the big day! My boyfriend had The Spot cater my 50th birthday party and they were just wonderful. Chris was the manager at the event, and he and the staff there were just lovely people. The food was really good and wonderfully laid out and they were really smart about how they set up, when they did things, etc. They knew how to make things run smoothly and how to make people feel welcome and had good sense of how to move around with hors d'oeuvres. Maybe that sounds silly but it's a skill to know how to not interrupt conversations but to still feed people. My boyfriend is a tough cookie and not easily impressed and loved them. Many at the party wrote me afterward to tell me the food was great. I'm so happy he hired The Spot and I would recommend them for anyone having a party and if I have another birthday party before I'm 100, I'd ask him to hire them again! read more

Similar to other posts on yelp, we had attended a party where The Spot Gourmet did the catering two years ago and loved the food and service. We have now used them on three different events (80th birthday, Christmas party, Summer party) and they have been awesome. The food quality and taste is great and consistent. We have received numerous compliments at each one of our events from picky foodie people. Besides the food, they do the setup, decorate the buffet table and bring in all the misc. items. Mark has been the onsite manager for us at all three parties and he is a professional. At our last event, Jeff was the chef and the food was just incredible. We also had a fantastic bartender, Mario. My guests were complimenting me about what a great bartender we had. He was very attentive and went over and beyond what is expected. Can't say enough good things about The Spot. Fantastic! Had 15 guests at my Torrance home for a graduation party. The Spot Gourmet provided the "passed" appetizers (shrimp and pot stickers), the main course (Brazilian skirt steak and marinated chicken), a unique salad, baby potatoes, asparagus, herb tomatoes, four sauces for the meat, bread, and dessert. Every guest raved about the flavorful food. The chef (Marsha) and the server (LeRoy) showed up on time, prepared the food in my home, provided an amazing buffet table with greenery/orchids, and they cleaned up.
