Drinks were top notch. Best in patchogue.

Great drinks and food. Bartenders are super friendly and make amazing cocktails. Tom is one of the top bartenders on the island. One of the best cocktail bars on the island. Might be the best.

Espresso martini. And, uh... a candle.

Upstairs from Shands (formerly the Brickhouse Brewery, RIP), The State House made use of a (as far as I knew) seldom-used space. Previously a spot for private parties (I assume) it's a far cry from when we played the BHB in the craft brewery dart league! The space is, in a word, swanky. A red velour (?) banquet/bench stretches along one wall allowing small tables to be adjusted and spaced for couples, parties of 4 or, perhaps, even larger groups. A few high tops hug the walls for couples. The bar looks like it will accommodate a dozen or so. All-in-all, a pretty intimate setting where it looks like 30-35 would be the max. That being said, it's pretty loud in here. I think the high tin ceiling probably reflects the noise back down to the diners. Or maybe it was the party next to us. If you're on a first date and trying to get to know what their favorite band was, maybe pick a quieter time. But, being married for 19 years, smiling and nodding worked perfectly for me. Dim lighting and dark wood lend to the speakeasy vibe. Entering through the matte black side door and ascending the long stairway and opening another matte black door add to the vibe. Inventive menu and craft cocktails. I stuck with a tried-and-true Old Fashioned (Bulleit). Like ordering Lo Mein from a new Chinese joint, this is my go-to to check if the bar is up to snuff. Giant, clear ice cube (which seems de rigeur for cocktail lounges), and nice presentation. Not bad. Wife had an Espresso martini which she was happy with as well. We skipped apps and went for the entrées. NOTE: They are focused on a SMALL PLATE concept. Do NOT expect to get stuffed (unless you order multiple plates). Though smaller portioned, the dishes were well-plated and delicious. Wife had the scallops which had a nice sear. I ordered the hanger steak, rare, which, blissfully, actually came rare! Well-seasoned and super tasty, there was no need for the accompanying sauce (though I tasted it and found it to be earthy and robust). Robert, our waiter, was casual, friendly and attentive without being obsequious and was very helpful with any questions we had regarding the menu. He brought us some samples of cocktails they were experimenting with. Ours was some sort of sour which looked and sorta smelled like crystal-light lemonade. Made with fig-infused gin, there a slight sweet and jammy note in the finish. Really nice. Panna Cotta for dessert had a nice counter balance of sweet and soft and crunchy with whatever was sprinkled on top (almonds?). Made with Brieremere berries? Finished with a double espresso. Overall, a great experience. Though the drinks and menu items seemed fairly priced, it's a slightly hefty bill for the small plates so make sure you adjust your expectations accordingly. My only regret is that we had not come sooner. A great addition to the Patchogue Village food and drink scene!

My partner and I booked a dinner on a Saturday night, which I would not recommend if you want a relaxing dinner. The room was crowded, loud, and dark. I ordered a spirit forward drink with coconut tequila. I thought the tequila was unique, but I'm not a spirit forward type. The next drink I ordered was supposed to be balanced and tasted even stronger than my first drink! Many of the people at the bar were noticeably drunk. I didn't enjoy the beverages. Our meal on the other hand was solid. My partner and I ordered the tasting menu. Our server was a very kind young woman. The beef tartare was lovely, as well as a milk oyster. No complaints with the food. Both of us feel we could have spent our money at a different restaurant and had a better experience.

Food and drinks are creative, service was wonderful. I chose this restaurant after reading reviews here and to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. It was both our first times here. We were welcomed and made to feel at home. The 'upstairs speakeasy' style was fun before our big swing band concert down the block-perfectly set the tone of our night. And of course, the infamous zig-zag floor was an added bonus for my Twin Peaks fan to take a bday photo.

I definitely see why this restaurant is so highly rated! Right as you walk in, you know you are in for a unique experience. The ambiance is very jazzy and secluded. The food and drinks on the menu are not options you will easily find elsewhere. The service was also wonderful and on par. I had an amazing time dining here with my friends and I will definitely be returning!

Great service once again. The food was delicious. I just wish I had known they had coquito on the menu, I didn't know until I saw the dessert menu. We got the rolls again to start. Their menu is always changing but it doesn't disappoint. I went with the clam linguini and hubby went with the steak.

Made a reservation for the "Speak Easy" part of this restaurant for me & 2 of my friends. I haven't been here since they changed it & was excited for some fun cocktails & atmosphere. When I got there they told me that the speak easy part was closed but they could sit us in the dining area...even though I just made the reservation on the phone for the speak easy part a few hours before. Strange. So I said sure & sat at a table which was nice & the restaurant was very classy & beautiful but it just wasn't the vibe we were going for that night. I honestly didn't like much on the menu & I eat pretty much everything. We all agreed on that & all got the salmon which was alright nothing special. We got Brussel Sprouts as well & some Oysters. They oysters were good. Our server was nice but wasn't around much & wasn't happy that we sent back a drink we didn't like that she recommend. She kind of avoided us after that. All in all I'll probably come back with my husband to try it once more & update my review hopefully.

The setting is cozy, romantic lounge bar vibe. It looks like something you'd see in the Lower East Side somewhere with the exposed brick and retro light bulbs. It takes a minute to understand the menu however since it's not a traditional sit down restaurant. I'd say it's more of a bar with some food lol. Which translates to small plates. So if you really pack away your food or are really hungry - I probably wouldn't come here lol. The dishes for the size are kind of pricey and cocktails are city priced as well so don't expect a cheap night out. But the look of everything is very chic, the staff is very attentive and they offer a coat check at the door free of charge. I will say if you're looking for a quieter experience go during earlier times - noticed the crowd started picking up at around 7 PM and our reservation was at 6 PM. The recommended plate amount was about 2 plates per person. I think for me and my husband's appetite we could've gotten away with 3. I think I'd recommend starting with 3 and then adding on something else as well if you're a party of 2 and still peckish. We ended up with the Parker Rolls, Beef Tartare, Honeynut Squash Cappalletti, and a Hanger Steak. The 2 person tables are a little tight to fit all the food but we made it work lol. Now the food is utterly divine. I fell in love with the hanger, perfectly cooked with a great sauce and an awesomely cooked potato. The Cappalletti was also wonderful and the truffle wasn't overwhelming, Parker Rolls were also fantastic - my husband isn't into the "european" butter they serve it with as it's got some "funk" to it - but he did like the apple butter a lot. I think the least favorite was probably the tartare - it was a fine beef but I felt the sauce it came with was just a touch bit too garlicy/tangy for my taste. My husband just opted to stick with beer (also a cheaper compromise if you don't want to shell out $15 for a cocktail) but I indulged in two cocktails - Pecan Jag and Youre killing me smalls! I loved the Pecan Jag - as I'm a sweet (but not overtly sweet) drinker. And I assumed Smalls would be the same but it had all the trappings of a sweet drink but the scotch and bitters really levels it out to just a scotchy smoothness- which is nice if you're not looking to just drink scotch straight - but not as sweet as I would've liked! Overall the damage was around $180 - not the worst but definitely not the most budget friendly lol. But honestly I would definitely come back for a nice occasion to try out some of their other food stuffs because their food was really THAT good.

Was trying to find somewhere to eat and most restaurants were closed on main so we saw The State Room's door was open and have been curious to try. You go up some stairs to a cozy, dimly lit room. Has 8 small tables and a bar. Had the best cocktail of my life I forgot to snap a pic but it was the strawberry one. We were starving and shared the Duck Wings, Beef Tartare and Sourdough Malfadine. All perfectly made. Portions for the entree we picked were small, don't expect leaving full. I'd put this on your list of vibey date spots tucked away from the larger crowds. Great for cocktails and a light meal, priced a little higher than what you might find on Main.

The speakeasy vibe, paired with their high-quality dishes and well crafted cocktails, makes this place a must-visit!

    Menu personalized for 70th Birthday.

Last night we celebrated my husband's 70th birthday. From the moment we walked in, service was impeccable. We were here with two other couples. Got there early to have a drink at the bar and the bartender was a true mixologist. Some of us didn't know what to order so told him our likes and dislikes and he suggested the perfect cocktails. Ambience in the State Room Bar area was rustic with brick walls, low light ambience and a faux library corner. It wasn't too loud so you could actually have a conversation. When we were seated at our table, service was attentive but not hovering. The menu actually had "Happy 70th Birthday" printed at the top. Such a nice way to feel special. Since the menu was small plates, we decided to order a bunch and share so we could try just about everything. We ended up ordering all but four of the menu items. Every one of them was unique and delicious. There wasn't any that we didn't like although my personal favorite was the Beef Tartare; coming in a close second was the Sourdough Campanelle. The dishes came out staged (appy, salad, pasta, main) and weren't rushed at all. They waited until you finished that stage before coming out with the next, changing plates and silverware in between. It was true fine dining which is hard to find nowadays as that seems to be a dying breed. They came out with complimentary desserts, a slice of cheesecake and slice of chocolate cake, with a candle in it for hubby. Overall a wonderful experience and will highly recommend. This has become my new favorite restaurant and will definitely be coming back for more.

Then I had the pulled pork slider, which was really good, but BABY... those short rib croquettes? To. Die. For. I also had to get my classic deviled eggs. I made one easily earlier that day and when we arrived around 7:30, it was not packed, but it is pretty loud in there even half full. The cashew ricotta is also tasty, but I do think it needed to be blended a bit more to remove the slightly grainy texture (the cashews might have needed more soaking). My father loved his French onion soup and pastrami sandwich. Separate paragraph for the fries. They deserve it. I'm glad we ordered these to share- it's an enormous platter of them. I appreciated that they were salted perfectly. I appreciate restaurants that can make satisfy a variety of preferences and dietary restrictions. The vibe here is festive and vibrant and a great choice for groups and families.
