If there's one restaurant in town I've tried to give a fair shot to over the years, it's Faraday's of Smithtown. I've been here on numerous occasions hoping that maybe this would finally be the visit where everything clicked. Unfortunately, it just hasn't happened. My experiences have been so-so, and more often than not they've been slightly disappointing. My biggest complaint has always been the food. My take has been it's been bland or uninspired. The French onion soup was just ok, and seemed like no effort putting this together. No provolone cheese option when I've ordered which is crazy. The Caesar salad tasted diluted, with lettuce that seemed waterlogged rather than crisp and fresh. Just overall underwhelming. The food is not necessarily terrible, but just mediocre and forgettable. Portion size is another problem. For what you're paying, the plates often feel surprisingly small. One example of this was the "Big C Burger," which was honestly a huge letdown. With a name like that you'd expect something substantial. Instead, the burger was tiny--maybe 4-5 ounces at most. At first glance you could barely even see the meat because the bun swallowed it. I ordered it medium and it came out completely overcooked, cooked to death really. The bun didn't help either--dense, dry, and overpowering the already small patty. The whole thing just felt poorly executed. Even the little details were off. I asked for olive oil on the side for a salad and what came out was clearly some generic vegetable oil. It felt like a lazy substitution, the kind of thing that makes you question how much care is going into the kitchen overall. To be fair, the one thing Faraday's consistently gets right is the atmosphere. The restaurant is has a cozy charming space with a warm pub feel. The indoor dining area although small has character and a comfortable vibe. The outdoor area is really nice too, and perfect for setting for a nice meal on a comfortable day. Service is good. I've not had any issues with any servers ever being inattentive. Occasionally some order mixups but quickly rectified. Unfortunately, that inviting setting hasn't translated to memorable meals. After several attempts over the years, Faraday's has remained one of those places that seems like it should be good--but for me, it just never quite hits. read more

Took a chance on trying again and the service has much improved. Greeted warmly by our server Heather who was attentive throughout our time there. Even made some excellent menu suggestions which were spot on. The Berlin Burgers were outstanding and highly recommended. Restaurant offered a Oktoberfest lunch menu for those interested in basic German style food. Although the inside dining room is cramped there is an additional "patio" dining area in the rear. I was most impressed with the improvement in overall service from a year ago and will definitely return to take advantage of their Oktoberfest lunch menu. read more

Had the opportunity to venture back to my home town and found myself back at a favorite spot of mine. Fond memories were had between 1988-1991 here. I remember Claudia before she and Tom bought the place in 1995. They have done an amazing job, the food and atmosphere is cozy and inviting. We were in the mood for handheld eats and decided to give Faraday's a try. After parking you walk down a very cute stone path that leads to the outdoor seating of the restaurant where you're greeted and seated. The outdoor seating is very beautiful, perfect for a warm day. We were served by Tom, who's actually the star of the night. He was very attentive, checked in on us frequently and even took the time to explain all of this the different sauces they had to offer in case we wanted to spice up the burgers. He was excellent. As far as the food, the French burger on ciabatta was delicious and the roast beef on the French dip was amazing. We can't wait to come back and try everything else. read more

What a great place. Everything we had was delicious. We ended up coming here because we were both in the mood for a good burger, and searching for "best burgers on Long Island" led my husband to a list somewhere that Faraday's was on, so off we went. We started off with mussels and they were very good. I had a local beer on draft and it was a good combination and great way to start. We each ended up ordering the Avocado Burger... hubby got it with a Caesar salad and I got a baked potato. The burger was exceptional. The meat was so good, and the overall dinner extremely tasty. It was a small and cozy place (we sat in the room closest to the bar) and it seemed like a lot of people were ordering the Shepherd's Pie... I'll have to go for that next time we go. Such a cute restaurant. They have these cottages that are perfect for privacy and if your are concerned about covid. I also notice every table had hand sanitizer available for customers. Came here twice in one week with different groups of people. The salmon was perfect! The sweet potato mash that comes with it is so good! The french onion soup was good! Not salty at all. Hubbys burger was a little overcooked in his opinion. The service was okay. There seems to be like two staff members running around taking care of the tables. WOW-- what an amazing experience!!!!!! My husband and I came here for our anniversary. I am immunocompromised so going places during covid time has been difficult and scary. Not here!!! We reserved a hut. They have a few greenhouse type private huts that are outside and can be reserved for a safe dining experience. The comfort that I felt in the sanitized hut was amazing. Our waitress jennifer was amazing. The food was delicious. We got burgers and they were so good. For dessert we got the smores dish which was out if this world! This is a neighborhood restaurant that has been there for years. The place needs a little renovation, but it is always busy and packed when I go for dinner or to pick up a take out order. They also have outdoor sitting and it is pretty nice! My favorite dish there is the chicken scarpiello and it comes with pasta of your choice. I usually order it with linguini. It is consistently great and the portions are big. I can recommend this place for their food and the servers are very friendly. Definitely a gem in the town. read more

I guess it's just not my type of place. My daughter got a cheeseburger kids meal (I did t try the burger) but the fries had a crazy amount of salt on them. French onion soup and shepherds pie were ok. The veggies in the pie were underdone. Wife got the short rib risotto which was in fact delicious or this would have been a 1 star review. There definitely could have been more risotto though. Overall the place is overpriced for the food we were served. Was running some errands on a cold Sunday out in the area and needed a place to grab some good food & watch some football before the drive home. Thanks to Yelp, we found Faraday's! Located on busy Main Street with easy street parking in front, we entered Faraday's and decided to sit at the bar after having seen the sign outside for the Sunday football specials. My fiancé ordered a beer ($4 draft special) and then we ordered the burger ($8+$1 for each additional topping) and the Macho Nacho Platter ($6) to share. The food took a while to come out, but we were the first and only customers since they open at 12:30pm on Sundays, so we understood. All the food was really good! The Nacho Platter was HUGE, so that was a great deal. They filled a large platter with chips and tons of toppings. The burger was pretty good, too. Thick patty and it was cooked well-done without being dry (oddly enough, we weren't asked how we wanted it cooked, but the way it came out was what I would've wanted anyway). Sweet potato fries were bomb! Crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Yum!! Also, I must point out that our bartender/server, Nina, was super friendly, nice and chatty. She even turned on the football games and sound for us while we were there. Overall, a ton of football Sunday specials to choose from and from the signs I saw, lots of weekday ones too! She took our order and then gone. 5 burgers $238 dollar . $50 for 2 margaritas " WTF". They screwd up the check 3 times and made me and my wife late for a show. Restaurant has prix fixe menu advertised on web site.However you are not given this menu when seated. We arrived at 3:45pm and when we asked about the prix fixe menu we were told that it is only available for dinner starting at 4:30pm. When the bill arrived, prices for several items did not match prices on the menu given to us. When we pointed this out to our server, we were told that the wrong menu was given to us by mistake, the prices on the new menus went up. The server also adjusted the bill to correct some items.The bill still did not agree with our given menu prices. The server left and came back with what appeared to be either an owner or manager. This individual was unapologetic and told us that the restaurant cannot keep updating menus as prices change frequently. We paid the adjusted bill with cash and left The food was mediocre and not memorable in any way. In fact some things were clearly frozen items reheated. The server was attentive and provided excellent service. It is unfortunate that wait staff have to deal with this incompetence at best and deceitfult management/ownership behavior. read more

We live in CT, but planned a family event in Smithtown at a place site unseen, and certainly had never eaten there. 25 family members. I have to say the manager and staff and chef made the event a complete success. Although the catered menu online looked good, the food turned out to be spectacular. They did their best to seat us outside on the most beautiful day and even moved umbrellas to keep us shaded. Food came out more delicious then the last plate. Everyone was friendly and kind even though we asked for a lot. I would highly recommend Faradays of Smithtown for your event or even just a meal. A real gem! read more
