The StateView Hotel is part of Marriott's Autograph Collection. It is located on NC State's Centennial Campus, but is in a quiet and secluded area on Lake Raleigh. The trees and lake are a great setting. Parking is free for Marriott Bonvoy members at any level. If you aren't a member, you can even join when you arrive. Then you will be given a code for free parking during your stay, saving you $12 a night. So don't scan the QR in the parking lot if you are a Bonvoy member. The hotel lobby is impressive with the art and decor. You will notice the red color and the wolf throughout the hotel. The staff was friendly when I arrived and did help me out when I couldn't get the parking code to work. I missed a step in the process. I was given an even-numbered room so that it had views of the lake. So that view likely would have been nicer if it hadn't been raining or stormy outside, but I could still wander when there was a break in the rain. I was disappointed with the room; it wasn't any nicer than the lower-level Marriotts I have stayed in. I wasn't a fan of the furniture. The bed, nightstands, chaise lounge, dresser/TV stand, and a movable table. I think that took the place of a desk. But there was no chair, so if you sat on the chaise lounge, it was much lower than the table, which made it not workable. So that explained why so many were working in the lobby. The room was too dark for my tastes. I like lots of lighting. There should have been enough lighting in the room with the lamps, but the shades dimmed those. I got the most light from the strip on the bed. Better soundproofing between floors is needed so you don't hear every footstep. The television channel lineup had fewer options than at other hotels I have been to lately, and a few channels showed only black screens. Later in the evening, the bottle of lotion caught my eye as I was getting ready for bed. The top of it wasn't attached fully, so I inspected it more closely and realized it was not new but used, and not much of it was left. This left me wondering what else housekeeping failed short on. Was the rest of the room and the high-touch surfaces cleaned? I left the lotion alone after my inspection and photos and didn't touch it, so I didn't get cross-contamination on me. I washed my hands after touching the bottle. But it still leaves me feeling icky. Housekeeping in the morning started tapping on everyone's room hours before the noon checkout. I didn't know what it was at first, as a knock I could understand, but not these taps. It is a pet peeve of mine to be disrupted before checkout time. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Check in and check out we're a breeze. The hotel is absolutely beautiful. It had a large lobby with games and a fireplace. A nice looking restaurant that had outdoor seating and a heated outdoor pool. The room was beautiful and very clean. Because we were on the fifth floor in a corner room, we had two sides of windows. The bed was OK. It wasn't the most comfortable, but not uncomfortable. All in all, absolutely no complaints. I will definitely stay there again. It's a quiet hotel kind of setback in the trees with beautiful natural views. It was very quiet. I would 100% recommend this property. read more

I recently stayed at the StateView Hotel and overall had a very pleasant experience. The location is the main highlight--tucked away from the chaos, surrounded by trees and a peaceful lake with nearby trails that made for a great morning walk. It's the kind of place where you can really unwind. The pool area by the lake was nice, the entire property has a clean, boutique vibe, well put together. Even had live music near the lobby during my stay. Customer service was excellent throughout my stay. Staff were friendly, attentive, and they acknowledged my platinum status with an upgrade to a lovely room with a great view. Much appreciated. The on-site restaurant served some solid meals, the shrimp & grits was satisfying. Parking was plentiful and hassle-free. A few downsides: the room lighting was too dim for my taste, especially in the evening. Bed was on the firmer side, I prefer more plush. The gym is basic--enough for a quick workout but nothing special. And I was surprised to find there wasn't a desk in the room, which made working from the room a bit awkward, but this was not that big a deal as I found working in the lobby to be a better alternative. Away from the hustle, a cute drive past the golf course. You'll see deer and other wildlife at dusk/night. Parking is $15 a night, the establishment at a glance is clean but less so for the rooms. As first look the rooms are clean but upon a closer view as you shower or get into the bed it's less so. We always check our sheets/covers before unloading. There was hair and unknown marks on the mattress cover and mold in the grout inside the showers. There was also hair inside the shower still. We tend to bring our own Clorox wipes so we did put those to good use but if you're looking for "clean" don't expect it. Now the bar was nice after a long day, they were out of a few drinks I wanted to order but the bartender made me something real quick based off what I liked. They also didn't hound us for more drinks one after another which is nice. We also had a chance to dine in their restaurant one night and the food was amazing. The attendees at the front desk were also very helpful. Overall a good experience, more adult atmosphere, but they lose in a start for cleanliness. read more

Finding a decent deal here, I used the place as a stopover. I didn't realize it would be on NC state's campus, and the break between semesters made it eerily quiet. But the campus is next to downtown Raleigh, which is handy. I had a smooth check in. It's a nice-looking building, but the thin walls are troubling. To be fair, the sorts of people who clomp around all night on hotel floors truly baffle me. I don't know how the cartilage in their knees isn't gone after a night of this. And that's not the hotel's fault. But even a modicum of soundproofing seems essential for a decent hotel, and I was unsatisfied with the noise. Other than that, the view was nice, everything worked fine, parking was easy, and I had a nice trip. read more

Tucked in the middle of the woods and on the outskirts of NC State's campus, is the Stateview. Probably perfect for anyone in need of access to the University. If you do not have a car with you, this is not a good property for you. As my Uber driver drove me through the forest around 10:30 pm, I seriously thought things might not end well for me but then the hotel appeared. It's pretty, don't get me wrong but I was alone, I hadn't eaten much of anything and of course everything like their restaurant and bar had closed for the night. I'm one of those people that need conveniences when I travel for work, so it didn't bode well, especially when the lady checking me in laughed when I asked if there was a Starbucks on the premises for coffee in the morning. I know it was my fault for not paying closer attention to location when booking. So all that aside, the room was OK, even if I didn't get the type of room I booked. And unlike at other Marriotts, even Courtyards, where you get bottles of water in the room, here there are none. My shower door wouldn't close. Positives: beautiful area to work outside overlooking the pool (which I sadly didn't get to use) and plenty of comfortable work/socializing areas in the large lobby. They have a small gym with free weights, cable system, a couple treadmills and ellipticals. I used it twice and it was fine. The bar area is pretty nice, though I didn't spend any time in there either. I didn't hate it but I likely wouldn't stay here again given the location not being convenient to anything other than the University. read more

I don't even know where to start with our stay, it was a disaster. 2 days before our arrival we were notified that on our day of check out the water would be turned off for the entire hotel at 8:00AM. I asked if there was any compensation for this, and nothing AT ALL was done. They said that they would provide bottled water. (not sure that will help with showers). Upon arrival the lady couldn't figure out my reservation (that I had already paid for through hotels.com) and charged me 5 different times for the stay and deposit. YES THAT IS CORRECT I HAD 5 FULL STAY CHARGES on my card. It has been over a week and I am still trying to get one of the charges off. The actual hotel was nice and clean, and if it wasn't for the people that work there, I may return. I am sorry but you need to do better Stateview Hotel, when you take water away at 8:00AM until 4PM, you need to give SOME kind of compensation. Some people in our party were not even notified of this issue . THEN when you realize you have OVER charged a customer 5 times, you should more than likely contact them and I dont know, APOLOGIZE? The hotel itself was beautiful. However, the Catering Sales Manager Anise Gaddy was very unprofessional and uncaring. Dear friends of ours planned an elegant graduation party for their twins. Due to poor communication and an unclear contract, the WRONG DATE was booked, although all EMAIL communication repeatedly had the correct date! TWO DAYS BEFORE THE EVENT it was realized the date was wrong and scheduled for the next day, Saturday instead of Sunday as communicated for months before! When confronted with the mistake Ms. Gaddy refused to acknowledge her mistake nor show compassion. She was very rude. She displayed a, "Oh well" attitude giving my friends the choice to lose money or move the date to Saturday. This resulted in family members from out of state missing the event. Despite her uncaring attitude, the party was beautiful because we all pulled together and rearranged our affairs to celebrate this once in a lifetime moment with our friends. I have relatives who work for Marriott and were as dumbfounded by this confusion and lack of professionalism as we were. Please don't use Ms. Gaddy for catering. The StateView is a nice hotel in a gorgeous setting away from the traffic and noise. From time to time you can see deer running across the property. The rooms are larger than expected, well laid out with many of the usual: small refrigerator, coffee maker, microwave, and the wi-fi works well. The tv has a few channels but allows you to log into your amazon, netflix, pandora, or youtube accounts. The closet has a bar that lights up the interior when you slide the door or move a hanger. That was useful as the entry by the room door is very low light. The pool is incredible. Placed in the back of the hotel below the main entrance level, it's set near the woods and makes you take a deep breath of relaxation when you see it. What I didn't particularly enjoy: the check-in process. The employees were great, friendly, informative, and very helpful. But, after a long day, I just wanted to check in, but apparently their process requires telling people checking in about the hours of the restaurant, bar, the location of the gift shop and its hours, etc. Seriously, I could have read all of that. I suppose if I had the luxury of time, this would be a welcome intro. The hotel is much larger than it appears and if you get a room at the far end of one of the hallways, you'll have a long, long hike to your room as the elevators are centrally located. On each floor, or at least the one I was on, is a filtered water dispenser -- a really nice touch. I'd stay at the StateView again, but I'm not sure I could justify the price unless i were less-pressed for time and could have the opportunity to take advantage of the amenities. read more

My room's AC unit was broken. Nobody was able to fix it, and they couldn't give us a different room. It was 95 degrees outside this weekend. Oh, and they pump in "fresh air" from outside, and you can't turn it off. I literally couldn't sleep because the room was so hot. To the hotel's credit, they comped the stay. But this was still ridiculous, and a huge hassle. Wouldn't stay here again if you paid me. read more

Overall we had a very pleasant stay. The food was incredible for breakfast and dinner, with very nice staff. The hotel was nice and had a pretty forested area to look out to. Took off a star because I found some weird broken glass thing in my room and the shower/bathroom had bad ventilation so the room got humid from the shower steam. It's the worst hotels from Autograph collection we have ever been. We asked for cleaning our bathroom and after 1.5 hrs there was no one there, even though we mentioned that we need to use it. Plus the receptionist treated us as she didn't like her job and it was something she did it because she should. We always had nice experiences at Autograph Collection hotels and as a member of Marriott family, we always try to see the best and avoid the negative aspects of there is any. But this time, the service doesn't deserve to be defined under Marriott valuable brand. I would suggest rethinking their services and the way they are treating guests. It is not acceptable for a member of Autograph Collection. And this is how they bring you stuff, they put towels on the floor, which is way more than disrespectful. read more

This was one of the nicest hotels that I have stayed at in a while. I fell in love with my bedroom which was a corner with windows on both sides giving it a panoramic view. The lobby is gorgeous and the meeting rooms are beautiful. The grounds are spectacular with wonderful walking paths and even water views. The shower was amazing and I loved the bed. The main reason I am not giving 5 stars is because of the very far walk to get from your car to the front. If it is cold outside and you are taking a lot of baggage it is just too far. Also, check in time was very slow because there was only one person working. I really did love this place and I think in the summer or in a warmer month it would be much better. . read more

Where to begin.... I had the pleasure of staying at The Stateview hotel last year Mother's day visiting my husband's mom from TX. Well, this mothers day we buried her. My husband, son and I stayed at the Stateview arriving to Raleigh before leaving for New Bern, and we booked to stay again on our way back before leaving NC to go home. The Stateview... is a gorgeous hotel. The grounds give it this peaceful country vibe, it screams relaxation. The menu currently for dinner is extremely small (2 apps, 2 salads, 2 entrees, 2 desserts)... but what they do have... is delicious! The rooms are clean, comfortable and spacious. The market in the hotel boasts some local treats from Ella's Popcorn (that's a whole other review). But.... the gem, the diamond of the Stateview is 100%, Ms. Jasmine!! She checked me and my family in when we arrived, was warm and friendly. You can tell it was genuine.. this is not her 'job" but a passion because her vibe makes you feel like you are seeing a friend. We checked out after a day to move on to New Bern, but a week later we came back to check-in and she meets us almost at the door and say "Hi Mrs. Hall... how was the service? Again sorry for your loss." Blew me absolutely away... why... because I'm sure she checks in many people over the course of a week. And for her to remember me FROM SITE made my day. My stay at this hotel was a bit of a mixed bag. The good: the property was nice, parking was easy, and the staff at the front desk were efficient and helpful. I enjoyed the outdoor patio, and had a fantastic meal at the restaurant, where the food and drinks were excellent and the service was great. The menu was small, and I wished it were posted online so I could check it out in advance, but the penne alla vodka and flourless chocolate cake did not disappoint. The bad: the bed was the most uncomfortable hotel bed I can recall. I barely slept, and woke up with back pain. It was awful. A comfortable bed is a hotel must have and they really missed the mark here. Toiletries in my bathroom (the lotion in particular) were used and not replaced. I was in Raleigh on work travel and was disappointed that a hotel room in an academic setting like a college campus would not have a desk. read more

A wonderful place to retreat and relax between activities. The front staff and the restaurant service are first class. It is nice to sit outside, look from the porch, fitness or pool through the green greens to the lake, every so often get acutely displaced from the restaurant's outdoor section because of a sudden splash of massive rain. The lobby is warmly outfitted and offers comfortable spaces to sit, work, or watch the Olympics. Not to forget that the hotel represents NC State's football team hotel where the players spend the evening/night before a home game - hence everything is large and robust. Breakfast at the restaurant has a limited selection of choices but the service and the food quality are all excellent and provide a great start into the day. I recently spent a night at the Stateview Hotel when in town for a conference at the McKimmon Center. The hotel itself is clean, beautiful, and set in a bucolic environment. Check-in was fast and easy. My room was immaculate and even smelled clean. No desk, however. There was a 45" flat screen TV, and the bedding was comfortable. The overhead reading lights at the head of the bed were a nice touch as well. Unfortunately, the StateView did not offer room service, at least not when I stayed there. So, I was forced to go out to get something for dinner. Also, I had an alarming moment when I was in the shower -- I heard a snapping/crackling noise and then smelled an electrical burning odor. After hastily exiting, I saw that the vanity lighting in the bathroom was completely burned out. Not sure what happened, but it was a scary moment. Overall, a very nice hotel, but not really worth the nearly 400 dollars I laid out to spend a night there. read more

DO NOT BOOK YOUR WEDDING PARTY HERE. Our stay started with an email the day before checking in stating that our check-in time might be later than we wanted and then the email proceeded to do a deep dive about where we could watch the football game if interested. We were not interested, even remotely. While we had plenty of options for football, the manager Samantha gave us zero options or feedback regarding why or when we would be able to check in. We were part of a wedding party, so checking in at an appropriate time is kind of the entire point of booking the hotel. I emailed Samantha several times and was told she had no other information for me. We tried checking in early and were told there was nothing available and to stand by. While some of your staff were nice and offered us mimosas, Samantha was useless. I gave my contact information to the front desk and was told we someone would reach out to us regarding when we could check in. Well, that never happened. After emailing Samantha several times, she told me that they were trying to reach me and that our room was ready. She then gave me the phone number they'd been calling...it wasn't the correct number. My contact information was listed on the reservation and my Bonvoy account. It seems that your hotel had my correct financial information to run my card around 8 pm and finally generate a key for me around the same time. I heard from NO ONE at your establishment all day. My girlfriend is a Sailor in the US Navy and doesn't get much time off and it takes quite a bit for her to leave the state. She had to get ready in the lobby bathroom because no rooms were available. Do you think she deserved that? If you knew a wedding party was coming, why the hell were better accommodations not made? Have you ever gotten ready in a hotel lobby bathroom for a wedding? Do you think we might have deserved better after paying nearly $300 for a room? To add insult to injury, the front desk in the morning comped us breakfast. How nice of you to comp us breakfast but it didn't apply to nearly half of the menu so why did you even bother? We did NOT get what we paid for not even in the slightest. I think you and I both know this. I'm requesting a full refund and a voucher to stay at another Autopgrah Collection of my choosing in the future. Jasmine at the front desk was fantastic, very helpful and friendly. She is the reason I didn't go lower with the stars. Actually all the front desk personnel were great. The restaurant has a very limited menu and I understand being short staffed, but it seemed like it took forever for the food to arrive. Our server was fantastic and kept coming over with apologizes and updates on our meals. Pool closes at 8pm which seems rather early considering it was still daylight and we had just returned to the hotel after a day of discovery and were looking forward to jumping in the pool with the kids. Room was nice and clean, nothing specifying nothing to complain about. I was mostly disappointed in the location. I thought there would be views of the lake which there were none. I didn't expect access but with the website mentioning the lake I expected something. Other than the college, there is nothing nearby. My biggest issue was the coffee. For the first 2 days of my stay there was a coffee urn in the lobby with free coffee. The last day of my stay I asked were the coffee station moved to and I was told the restaurant, I go there just to be charged $3 for what was free the day prior. read more

Thier guest rooms are modern and spacious with plush bedding. The hotels amentites include a heated outdoor pool, 24/7 fitness center, onsite restaurant and bar, Flask & Beaker and much more. Not a fan. Room overlooks a flat white roof of the building below. Kuerig in the room is undrinkable. Must be something wrong with the machine. Coffee comes out like weak tea. No complimentary coffee or water in the lobby. Went to the hotel restaurant for coffee this morning and the waitress brought me a carafe of coffee, but no cup and no cream. Hotel is clean and maid service was good. The outdoor seating is nice. read more

This is a brand new hotel part of Marriott's Autograph collection. Duke has the Washington, Chapel Hill has the Carolina Inn and now NC State has its very own hotel on campus for alumni, travelers and business guests. The theme of the hotel focuses on the engineering, textiles and patents that have all been produced at NC State. The pillows have words like "den" on them to play on the wolf mascot. There is a restaurant, pool and gorgeous views of the outdoors. This location is right next to the golf course and on Centennial campus. I cannot wait to plan our next meeting here and come to the restaurant to dine. Fantastic job on the architecture and design, StateView. read more

So wayyyyy better than what I expected. The rooms are very large and clean. The bathroom was nice nothing amazing. It was perfect for an overnight stay. There was a yard by the pool the kids were able to run around in. Apparently there is a little trail to the lake but we choose to drive to the other side of the lake to attempt to fish. Didn't catch anything but it was very nice. A little dock and some tables. I did not realize when booking this was NC state campus so there were a lot of college kids around but no issues. They were fishing and exercising. Speaking of exercising the gym was amazing. Very large. Cardio machines, weights, balls and a cable machine. There was a large window looking at the pool. The restaurant was surprisingly delicious. We sat outside overlooking the pool. It was a beautiful time. The service was great. The waitress was the one that told us about the dock on the lake or we could walk down in the little trail by the pool. read more

The place is neat and Jasmine is the bomb, she's super friendly and our check-in was smooth. Vanooy and Suntoro at the restaurant are also super friendly. The only thing we didnt like is the ribeye, wasnt cooked nicely and we think its not a real ribeye cut (no marbling on the meat), we didnt ask for a discount because the service we received was great. This place is absolutely amazing! What a hidden gem! I was here for several days with a work conference, and can't say enough positive things about what they've done out here! There is a beautiful back deck area overlooking the pool with huge company floppy furniture downstairs outdoor fireplace, wonderful meeting spaces with delicious food, the rooms are gorgeous and all of the Decour is extremely modern! Job well done and highly recommend to anyone coming to the area or four companies who are looking for a nice workspace :-) For anyone that is local, and perhaps a NC Stater, you can show up here and get some really cool State branded merchandise that I've actually never seen anywhere else! When I arrived on the first day, my room was not ready. Check in is at 4:00pm.. I arrived at 9:00pm and and to wait 20-30 mins until my room was cleaned. The second day I came back to the hotel at 6:00pm I walked into room the same way I left it at 6:00am, when I had departed. I jumped in the shower, then went to the front desk to let them be aware of the situation. There was really no apology, but said it should be cleaned by 7:30... I left for dinner and when I returned, the housekeeper was just leaving my room. I feel that this was unacceptable from the stand point of any hotel. But was blown away that it happened at a Marriott... My room was clean and pleasant, but other than that, a bad experience was had. read more

This hotel in terms of service, room quality, and decor significantly exceeded my expectations. The price is similar - at my company rate - to the nearby ALoft. This hotel has a very unique setting for an urban hotel located within Raleigh city limits. It is situated in a very green area on Lake Raleigh. While this makes it more isolated - and requires a car to reach restaurants or shops - the setting is beautiful and a nice break from NYC (for me!). The hotel is more upscale then I expected for a 3 star hotel. The lobby is very modern and spacious and includes a lot of space for working or socializing with colleagues. They have a high quality restaurant and bar onsite. The rooms are spacious, and have a very comfortable bed, large flat screen TV, and combo couch desk setup. The bathroom is large as well, features a huge mirror, comfortable towels, and spacious shower with glass sliding door. The rooms are not as fancy as a high-end hotel but the vibe is great. The one con for a business traveler is they do not have a desk but the couch desk combo (lounge chair with large side table) worked fine for me. Finally, the service is excellent. The room was cleaned very thoroughly. The room service was prompt and friendly. They provided free water every day. They also provided free breakfast passes and free parking. The front desk staff was very helpful. Bed bugs. Hotel has done very little to address the situation. Fact is bed bugs can travel back with you to your home. A refund has been done from the stays but no compensation for all valuables lost. read more

Absolutely AWFUL! Definitely not a 4/5 star hotel. First night we were switched to 3 different rooms due to broken AC's. Last room was disgusting. Dust everywhere and had a weird smell. Bathroom was a nightmare. Dirt, rust, grime in the shower. Sink attachments weren't even connected to the actual sink! Restaurant was way over priced for basic food. Lobby was nice but that's it. We were given a breakfast voucher and all it covered was a small fruit bowl. Wasn't offered ANY comp for everything that happened. What was supposed to be a relaxing mini vacation was a total nightmare. Don't go there. Waste of time & money! read more
