Great local hotel! Myself and 3 extended family groups were arriving internationally, and I booked mostly b/c it was the lowest rate in the Vancouver area at the time. The pub, which features in their pics, that a sign on the door reading 'Closed FOREVER', and we left in too much hurry to have breakfast at the cafe, so my review focuses on the hotel & neighborhood. First, the staff were very responsive and friendly; all the paperwork was in order (we booked thru hotels.com) and all three separate check-ins were a breeze. The rooms are clean, spacious and come with room-darkening shades- yay! The bed was soo comfy, and the bathroom was spotless. The area was just lovely; lots of small eateries and coffee shops, lots of variety and a proper grocery store across the street. The hotel is located directly across the road from the fisherman's dock and it made a lovely promenade. We initially hesitated to take a room due to the distance from the public transit routes (that we could see), but all the public transit staff were so friendly and we were all able to travel easily! I'm unsure if I'll be anywhere in the VC area in the future, but if I do, the only hotel I'll he staying in is the Steveston Hotel! read more

During our three night, four day stay in and around Steveston, we ended up in two separate rooms (I'd originally booked two nights, later adding a third, but our first room had been booked for the third night during the interim), had breakfast in the café (once), and popped in and out of the attached liquor store (staffed by the same employees as the hotel) a handful of times to take a night cap back to our room, so we pretty much experienced everything this place has to offer. Check in (and out) was simple, pleasant, and efficient. Parking is included in the room; just give them your plates and your description of your car, and you're good to go for the entirety of your stay, and beyond; when we asked if it was okay to remain parked there after checking out, while we wandered about the town a bit, we were informed we were cleared to remain parked there for two more days(?!). Overkill, but hey, nothing to worry about then, eh? Our first room, a spacious affair that included a King-sized bed and a massive jetted tub (in addition to the shower in the bathroom) my wife affectionately called the "Honeymoon suite". The bed, pillows and sheets were incredibly comfy, and we both slept well (the same was true of the bed in our second room). The tub, spacious enough for two (or more?! *wink wink*), never lacked for hot water. The room itself was clean, if sparsely and somewhat cheaply furnished; the bathroom similarly spotless, but better appointed. However, there were definite signs of age and wear evident on the walls, window sills, cracks and crevices, all somewhat inevitable in a building as old as this. My wife and I aren't picky, using hotels almost exclusively for sleeping and bathing, so as long as things are clean and tidy, little nitpicks like this do not bother us. I couldn't get the AC unit on the wall to respond to the provided remote at all, though, so we settled with opening the windows to cool the room down at night. We are unbothered, and even enjoy, the sounds of night life activity, and as there is a restaurant/pub ALSO attached to the hotel/cafe, on the other side of the liquor store, there was plenty of activity outside into the wee hours of the night. However, one thing that should be mentioned, even if it did not affect us directly: since all of the rooms are upstairs, one wing of the hotel runs along the 3rd Avenue side of the building, and as such, some of the rooms lie directly over said restaurant/pub. This means that the rowdy drinkers, DJ and karaoke caterwaulers can be heard clearly in these rooms, and the hallway, until closing time, which is 2:00am on the weekends. Now, our room was in the corner furthest from the pub, so we didn't hear a thing while inside, but even opening the door into the hallway, the source of the noise was unmistakable, and I imagine that light sleepers, and those easily perturbed, would not be able to ignore it. It would bother my wife and I, but we're...a different breed of weirdos. As for the café itself, open only for breakfast, brunch or lunch, was serviceable without being remarkable in any way. Think Denny's, Shari's, or the Canadian equivalent of either, and there you have it. As I said before, we only ate there once; we moved on to the Cannery Cafe down the street, and other places, on the following mornings. All things taken in consideration, the most important aspect of the Steveston Cafe & Hotel (as a hotel, anyway) is location, and with few other marks against it (at least in our opinion), my wife and I agreed that we would definitely stay here again during a future visit. If you appreciate its many conveniences, while also accept its many quirks, you'll probably enjoy your stay here as much as we did...provided you can shut out, ignore, or appreciate the noise. If you can, the comfy beds here will guarantee a good night's sleep! read more

Steveston is such a cute area, we came by for a couple hours last year and knew we had to explore it longer at a later date. We needed a place to stay for a couple nights to go to the Richmond Night Market and Vancouver, we chose this place as it was reasonably price. Parking is free, but if you prefer not to drive this place is close to the bus line which will get you to the train station which will get you wherever you might need to go. There's tons of restaurants nearby, including this one on site. It's located next to a bar, which we did not have a chance to visit, but we didn't hear any noise from it on a weekend trip. This is an older hotel which does not have an elevator. Doors are opened with actual keys. They lock the front doors from 11 pm to 7 am, but you are given another key to use to get in and out. My partner thought he locked himself out, but he missed the instructions about how you need to use both keys. The reception also mans the liquor store on the same first level, so you may have to ring the bell to get their attention. We were not able to check in right on time, but since we could leave our car and had things to explore this was not a big deal. I noticed some people had their luggage shipped from the cruise ship and thought this was kind of a cool idea. Our room was clean and comfortable, we slept well both nights. It did take a little effort to get the shower warm, but this might have been user error. My only complaint is that our room was right next to the door that locks and separates the hotel from the stairs down to the lobby, we did hear this open and close repeatedly in the morning, but we were planning to be up early anyhow. We had a meal at the cafe, it was one of the few places open early for breakfast. I did not find the meal to be anything special, but since our room did not have the appropriate amount of caffeinated coffee we were happy to have this option. read more

We were warned of our stay that it might be nosy because it's above a bar. However we gambled on it being a Sunday night and the bar closes at 10pm vs 2am. The location was convenient to walk around in but it is old (no stairs) but the room was remodeled. I'm sure if there were more hotel guests, it would be louder. I think we lucked out and it was a quiet night. Our room was #2 so it was split junior suite. Super warm at night. Free parking. read more

We stayed in a superior queen room at the end of the building over the cafe. That area is quiet since the cafe closes at 1pm. If you are noise sensitive, avoid rooms 1-12 over the Buck & Ear. It stays open until 2pm on Fri/Sat and 10pm on other nights. Our room was clean and comfortable. The front desk staff were friendly. As noted by others, there is no elevator and all rooms are on the second floor. Parking was free, and we didn't move our car for two days since everything was in walking distance for us. We chose to include breakfast in the cost of our stay, so we ate in the cafe both mornings. The waitress did a great job, especially since she was the only person serving, and the "basic" breakfast that was included was more than enough food (eggs any way, sausage or bacon, toast, and potatoes). We had dinner at Kisamos Greek Taverna one night and Kove Kitchen the other. Both were good. We've visited Steveston before but have never stayed there; we're glad we did. read more

I visited the area several years ago and saw this establishment as I left and thought that when I was back, I would make a stop here. Well, that opportunity presented itself and it did not disappoint at all! The breakfast special did not disappoint. Tasty scrambled eggs, breakfast meat and toast along with really good coffee started my day off with no complaints. On the way out I grabbed a mixed berry muffin for later and that was AMAZING! Nice staff and the bathroom is big. The noise isolation is not too good when dogs bark and kids run or scream, you can hear it clearly. Located in the downtown of Steveston and it is convenient to walk to the wharf and enjoy the oven view in the afternoon. It can also be good when you see fireworks here. I like this place. read more

My God!! This was absolutely disgusting I paid 22.00 for one of the worst meals I've ever tried to choke down! Ordered the ham and cheese omelet and aside from being so heavily overcooked they forgot to put the cheese in the ham and cheese omelet, I would say there may have been one teaspoon of cheese and bland and just awful.... i specifically requested the omelet be slightly undercooked and i guess the cook couldn't understand my request... It's been awhile since I came here for breakfast. The last time we sat down and left after not being served for about half an hour, so needless to say my review back then wouldn't have been so favourable. We came here today because it was a place my uncle and aunt liked to have breakfast. The veggie omelette was quite good. Just under ten dollars you get the omelette with deep fried potato nuggets and toast. I opted for no toast and ordered the Peruvian sausage which cost $5.50 for just one sausage made by D sausage hause nearby. It wasn't worth the price. I should have opted for the sausage links. The sausage I got was a bit dry. There was only two waitresses there on a busy Saturday morning. So service could be spotty trying to get coffee and stuff. Overall, I'll give them a decent 3 stars for serving good food, and decent service. If it was just for the omelette alone, I'd give them 4 stars. read more

The service was excellent! Waffle and coffee were excellent! It's a small cozy place. The only thing I did not like were the eggs. They tasted a bit buttery with no seasoning or flavor. I would recommend and I would eat there again. My daughter had the breakfast potatoes/hash browns and they were really good. French toast is also recommended (daughter). read more

Worst experience ever. When I stayed at this hotel more than 3 months ago, they did not return the deposit to me, which was more than $100. Not just from a washroom point of view, but just no "oomph" factor. Yes, it's nice to stay in the village, by the pier, but honestly, how can anyone do more than a day here? Unless you've got a boat or something... But it does have its conveniences; a pub and liquor store just below ;) Haven't stayed, but imagine it's old and not up to date, pretty sure last year they used bedspreads, like one would find in a motel. Quiet part of the village, at the edge. And tough to find a public washroom here lol read more

The fluffiest pancakes, waffles, giant omelets (even with only 2 eggs), super yummy spinach salad. I haven't eaten anything here that wasn't delicious! People line up to eat here on weekends but if you come down during the week there is usually a table or two left. Festival time in Steveston and the only hotel that is an easy walk to Garry Point and the Village and all the shops and restaurants is the Steveston Hotel. To be fair, is IS a very old relic from another era and the rooms have had some measure of updating however I could only recommend staying here if you're over the legal limit and can't find your way to accommodation attuned to today's consumer. The "reception" desk and clerk are shared by the liquor store and a six pack and 750ml of Chardonnay took precedence over my hotel registration. If you opt for the deluxe room you get a room that's not over the pub. Your 12 x 10 room however will not hold back a host of electric motor, exhaust fan and human noise. The highlight of your stay after you trek up the 20 stairs from the lobby/liquour store and find your room will be the historic artifact that resembles a TV. If you manage to get it fired up, you'll be treated to a 60's style resolution from the picture tube .... yes that's right .... TUBE! At $100 a night, I expected a bottle of wine, chocolates and rose petals but alas, was left wanting. The room was clean tho and the staff make the best of a challenge. On the bright side, the cafe downstairs serve excellent breakfasts so we departed with full tummies but tired. read more

Went with a friend - like I have many times before - to visit Steveston for a day trip- about 20 minutes south of Vancouver. Decided not to rush the trip and stay over for the night after checking out this hotel. Was built in the mid 1800s but far cleaner then you would think. Most rooms a little too basic motel type (two star for about $50 non-peak price) but there are a few rooms that are spacious and fun. We stayed in a large room with a very nice bathroom, fridge, two-seater table, TV and a large jacuzzi right in the corner of the room surrounded by two mirrored walls. Open space on main floor featuring a nice basic greasy spoon restaurant and clean good size off-sales liquor store. Attached to the hotel is a very large pub with lots of outside tables front and back.. My room was $150 during low period. I think it can go as high as just over $200 during peak time. However considering it is 20 minute drive from Vancouver it is a great two-day, one night trip away from the city. Lots going on in this little town and the hotel is situated right in the middle of it. read more

I have given this cafe 3 chances. Strike three you are out. Will never set foot in this place again. I was unaware that the cafe closed at 2pm ( no sign posted ) and sat at a table with my mom at 1:30pm. We wanted to order eggs Benedict and by the time the waitress came by were informed that the griddle was closed for the day. Ok I get it, but it was 1/2 hr till closing. Second time same thing. Walked in and before we even sat down....."we are closed". I guess we have to get here earlier. Today it was 1:10 pm great lots of time.......my mom and I waited I was watching the clock and it was now 1:25pm and due to my previous experiences thought I better ask the waitress. I did.......what response do you think I got this time? " I am moving as quick as I can, we are short staffed" and on......OK you always want to give customers the gears about the time but come on be a little flexible. This was the older slender lady with glasses. I guess the workers rule in this place and customers subject to their whim of the day. I am a nice person and expect to be treated fairly. I rarely complain , criticize or cause a scene as I have seen other people do. I'll tell you what else I am....I am the customer , that ,if not treated right will take their business elsewhere and let as many people, family and friends know not to patronize this establishment. I'm not really sure why there are so many negative reviews here. for a hotel that was built in the 1800s, what are people expecting? my best friend and I stayed here for ten days in October, and it could not have been a better experience. the room was clean, the beds were comfortable, not to mention the cafe, pub, and liquor store conveniently located right downstairs. the manager and person that checked us in even took our bags upstairs for us and into our rooms, even though they didn't have to. we went to watch once upon a time film, and took in all the local sites like granny's and Mr. golds shop. throughout the week we made friends with the lovely locals, which truly made the experience magical. Something has happened to the quality of the food served recently. Was there 2 weeks ago and was served a waffle that tasted like it came out of a freezer. Service is always cheerful and attentive but I could see that the wait staff were affected by this change. Personally I'd pay a few dollars more to get back the original standard. read more

This review is actually for the diner not the hotel but the diner is located in the hotel next to the spirits shop and they share the same name. I have been coming to this diner/Cafe for a while. Lately everything has gone downhill! I don't know if the owners have changed but the recipes certainly have. I used to go for the halibut chowder which was divine I went recently and was given what I can only because I had no halibut! Also, I asked for a Diet Coke and noticed that the syrup was low (I have spent 10 years of my young life serving and bartending) and the pop tasted bitter and like soda water. I informed the waitress who said ok and left me there for the next 20 min. Only to come back and say she was too busy to change it so I could drink something else. Wtf! Seriously restaurant not even half full and there was another server and a busser! Now I realize this is not a fine dining establishment but they still expect the same tip so I expect at least a soda! By this time I've already received my crappy chowder so I'm pretty much over this entire experience. I just ask for the bill and vow never to return or at least until they bring back the chowder and retrain the servers. read more
