I saw Frankie recently with a hair debacle that had reached a crisis point -- massive breakage and hair loss due to extreme stress and damage. My hair had pretty much been reduced to a very bizarre mullet with random long, stringy strands interspersed. It was horrible ... I literally did not want to leave the house! Frankie was compassionate, capable and calm (even though I wasn't). He gave me a few options, keeping in mind my tight budget, active lifestyle, and passion for long, sexy, very feminine hair. We decided to go with a combination of rich color, dense extensions, and a fall, which he colored to perfection and blended in beautifully with (what was left of) my own hair. He also gave me hair care products to help speed along the regrowth process, and keep everything healthy and beautiful. Frankie does work that in and of itself is gorgeous, but also transcends the aesthetic. He has the rare ability to combine art, expertise, intellect, and empathy. I lost my hair during chemo and when it started growing back I was nervous about having short hair for the first time in my life. Before I went in to The Studeo I looked like a chia pet. Second time reviewing! I went in about a month ago for a color correction. Today, I went in for a glaze and cut. I was with Sam this time and she was amazing. She listened to exactly what I wanted, even though I was vague, and worked with me to make sure everything was perfect. I was so vague I went, "I just want a cute French girl cut." She replied, "I know EXACTLY what you want, got it!" Now, my hair was a wreck. As noted in my previous review, I had color corrected so it was damaged. And I had not been in for a cut in ages. My last cut was at a way overpriced salon in Georgetown. The stylist gave me a punk rock look just because I showed up wearing a leather jacket. I wear bows in my hair. It did not suit me at all. And I paid so much. I was miserable. Told Sam all about this, she was sympathetic, understood, and didn't judge. This is by far the best cut I have ever had in DC. I'll definitely keep going back. I'd previously enjoyed the few times I'd gone here but unfortunately, going to them to book hair & makeup for my wedding was a really bad experience. They are super flaky, including that the stylist who was supposed to do my hair quit 10 days out and they had no immediate replacement suggestions, leaving it to me (and thank god, I had a wedding planner who could reach out to other wedding stylists ASAP) to find & hire a replacement myself. Victoria still did my makeup and she did a great job, and I've been really happy the couple times I've had Frankie do my hair at the studio, but this was just not what you'd hope or expect from professionals, and caused a lot of stress & chaos leading up to my wedding. It is so hard to find a good hair cutter, and I'm so glad I found Frankie! He's better AND less expensive than a lot of other stylists in the area. I was extremely pleased with my haircut, and the overall experience. Frankie knows so much about hair care and he gave me a lot of ideas. I had a bad experience at another salon (Mimosa -- do not go there!) where they over-processed my hair and it's now very damaged. I often find hair stylists really try to push products on you to get you to spend more money, but Frankie didn't do that at all. He gave me a lot of ideas, but no pressure. He also gave me the exact style I asked for. He was running 25 minutes late when I arrived, so he gave me the choice of a free deep conditioning treatment or $50 off a Keratin treatment at a future visit. That's just excellent customer service, and it was very much appreciated. I like that Frankie takes his time and doesn't rush. That's not to say he's slow. He really takes the time to listen to what you want and to chat with you about your hair care. I was referred by a good friend who spoke highly of her and I finally decided to check her out. I have only gone to her a few times for Eyebrow Waxing and Brazilians and I can honestly say that I will never let anyone else wax me. She is quick, effective, and pleasant all things that make for a comfortable experience when you are getting waxed. I have been to a handful of people for my waxing needs but nobody compares to Rosie. She is very professional and always accommodating to the client's needs. Her prices are unmatched. In the past Brazilian waxes have run me anywhere from $60 to $100. Rosie's price points are well below that. Great place. I've only had my hair cut by Frankie, but I don't think he's ever done it poorly. I've found it surprisingly hard to get a men's cut that I'm happy with in general.... possibly in part because I'm useless at verbalizing what I actually want done to my hair, and possibly in part because lots of hairdressers simply do a weak job with men's hair. But Frankie's been great every time I've seen him, and so I've been repeatedly heading here for about two years now. A bit hard to get to without using Metro, which frustrates me. And their online booking system was questionable(broken?) until recently. That's up and working just fine now, though. I've had a few unexpectedly long waits after arriving, but that's probably the fault of previously late customers more than anyone on staff. I been going to The Studeo for over two years and have been very happy until recently. I have very straight and stiff hair so it require a lot of shaping and pecision as any uneven hair is very apparent. I had two stylist cut my hair during this time and was very satisfied. However, during my latest visit, I did not find out my current stylist had left the studeo until I texted her to let her know I was running a little late 20mins before my appointment. I called the salon immediately and they informed me that they had try to reach me, but I didn't get any voice mail or text. I spoke with Frankie and he was able to schedule me for the next day with Jasmine. Unfortunately I wasn't able to do any other time or with another stylists as I was going out of country two days after. I was quite satisfied at the time however, I arrived for my haircut the next day with Jasmine and had my head mauled. I do not like stylist who relies on the clipper and does minimal shaping with the sheer. In this case I had the clipper jammed into my head as she mowed the side and back of my head. Feeling things are a bit too late to salvage, I tried to direct her to smooth out the angles and try to give it a more natural look. In the end after a few attempts, I realized perhaps she doesn't really know how to shape my hair. I quickly paid and left in disappointment. Additional, I got charged $5 more than my previous haircut 4 weeks prior. After I get home to take a closer look, I noticed more uneven spots and a general sloppiness the way it was cut. Even after going to The Studeo for more than 2 years, I'm hesitant to go back unless they sort out their mess and set the bar higher for the new stylist they bring on. read more

I've been getting my hair cut by Frankie for over two years now. Frankie does his best to work with you to get you what you want. During the consultation before every haircut, he'll ask detailed questions about what you want and how you regularly style and take care of your hair. I appreciate how he will also let you know if in his professional opinion, one of your requests may not be the best option for your specific hair and/or lifestyle - for example, I'm very low maintenance when it comes to my hair, so he'll tell me if a certain hairstyle will require a lot of work to maintain. Though I only get simple haircuts, Frankie doesn't try to aggressively push more expensive styling services. He also has done a great job in working with my Asian texture hair, which is not the case for every stylist in the downtown DC area. Overall, I'd highly recommend getting your hair cut at the Studeo! read more

I have been seeing Jasmine for several years, at past salons and now at the Studeo-- she is one of a kind and so talented. Every time I get my balayage touched up I am even more amazed than the previous time by how beautiful my hair looks. I cannot say enough good things about the quality of her work and on top of that, she is such a sweet, personable stylist. I have so much fun catching up with her whenever I am in for my haircuts. The Studeo's new location inside Salon Nuance is beautiful-- quiet with lots of natural light and clean, modern decor. I was really impressed by the space and their products. This is the second time I have been to Frankie and he is a hair genius! Not only are his skills amazing but the customer service is amazing at TheStudeo. My hair was completely ruined before going to him and now it is a beautiful light brown/dark blonde! I am so happy with this salon and the way they have treated me. Frankie is the best there is. Period. I started going to Frankie after someone else had butchered my hair in my feeble attempt to go from a red-head to blonde. Frankie not only fixed the color of my hair (no more brassiness! yay!) but he also worked with me to find a cut that would be flattering and would let me start to grow my hair out in a healthy way again. I recommended him to my co-worker a couple years ago, and now neither one of us will go to anyone else! It's really really tough to find someone who can give you that perfect shade of blonde, but Frankie does it every time. And don't even get me started on the cuts! I get compliments all the time on my hair cut. I'm in the process of growing my hair out, and never in a million years thought it was possible to have a good-looking "grow out" cut. Frankie has that all-too-rare gift of really being able too listen what a customer wants. If he thinks that what you're after isn't the best interests of your hair, he'll tell you -- because at the end of the day, he wants you to be happy with the results. Since May, we've been experimenting with giving my hair my hair extra length and volume through the Hairdreams Highlines 2 system along with tape-in extensions. I went to Frankie for a Lasio Keratin treatment this week and was blown away (in the best way possible!). I love the vibe of the place, from the actual setting to the awesome conversation. I've never gotten a Keratin treatment, and Frankie walked me through each step, asked what I was hoping to get out of it, answered any questions I had, and generally made me feel super comfortable with the process. (You've even gone so far as to call other reviewers/clients a "pain in the ass" and "crazy.") To add to the frustration, there was no attempt by your staff to try to schedule another appointment for me as soon as possible. Instead, I was referred to book another appointment on the website. I understand that accidents happen. Even so, you're running a business and life goes on. If you inconvenience someone by cancelling their appointment (that they made well in advance) at the very last minute, don't you think that you should try your best to get them in there promptly? Lastly, you've claimed that I give lots of one-star reviews to businesses. Did you even bother to look at my other reviews? I don't even review on Yelp that often, but all of my other reviews are quite complimentary. I suppose that as soon someone criticizes you, you jump to the defensive rather than actually taking their viewpoint into consideration. New to Yelp , moved to DC in the summer just starting to experience different places in the area . This place just topped all my experiences to a new city , walked in for a quick trim on a Saturday afternoon, should of known better! If people are sitting around on a Saturday that is a sign to just walk away but I had the time and I took a chance .No problem getting an appointment!!nothing special in the services , people are not very friendly . Something I've never seen before! They have full time salon dogs around , dog beds/dog toys/ dog food bowls! Now hold on a second. If you remembered me, you'd remember we actually never talked on the phone regarding my hair. I can't hang up on someone over a text. You offered me to come in EARLY on a Saturday so that you can fix my hair but I was so afraid you'd make it worst, I decided not to show up at all and go to someone in Georgetown who FIXED YOUR mistake (the horror look they had when they saw my green hair and asked what I did to it. Don't worry, I didn't forget to give credit where it was due for that) You say nothing was wrong with my hair but if that were the case you wouldn't have needed to make "accommodations" to fix your hell work. If you want to mention your hair stylist Lene, she was actually the one that said IF MY HAIR TURNED GREEN I should make an appointment to come back with her right away and told me the days she was working that week. Hence, she was expecting something to go wrong. The only reason I didn't make an appointment with her to fix it is because I feel she did everything right. But you did not. You say I asked for low lights or highlights in my extensions but I did not. You color matched my hair for a reason. When the extensions turned out to be a wrong color order, you put more chemical in my hair to match it. And it still didn't. I just need for you to admit that mistake instead of calling me a bully and putting it off on everything else but just that. If indeed you said I agreed to highlights and lowlights, what was the point of you dying the extensions to match with the top part of my hair? Why didn't we just leave it the way it was? Why did I have to point out to you that the hair color didn't match when you went to go pick up a phone call? How could you say that someone else messed up my hair when you guys were the ones that dyed my hair? The first time I stepped foot in your store, Lene took out my extensions and cut my hair into a lob. The ENTIRE time she kept saying how wonderful of a job my friend did on the color at her salon. So thank you for that awful experience and even up til now, you still will not accept fault even as an owner. And you know what? that's fine. I've learned from my mistake and it will never happen again. But I should still allow others to know what you did so they can make that decision for themselves if they want to give you a try. The only bully here was you. You messed up a clients hair and put the blame on them as if they were the ones who dyed their hair and put hair extensions in themselves. Shame on you. Frankie is a hair god. Honest, he saved my hair. I had a bad cut at a different salon( trying to save money) and no matter what I did it just looked horrible. I went to Frankie because of the great reviews. I started with a consultation where he listened to what I wanted but then gave me multiple options of what we could do. With each option he explained the hair science behind. I ended up getting extensions and they were great. My hair is long enough now that I don't have extensions anymore but I keep coming to Frankie. He is the only hairdresser who gets my color exactly as I want and if you ask he will offer his opinion on what will look best, and his opinion is not the most expensive option but based on what he truly thinks will look good. He has amazing hair knowledge and a fun personality, plus his cute dog is usually present at the salon. Is he expensive? Yes and he is also the best. I got my hair done here this afternoon after reading it's many great views on Yelp. I am naturally skeptical, but I was impressed with my hair appointment today! Samantha was my stylist. She cut and styled my hair so beautifully. I also got a shine and smoothing hair treatment which I really loved. This salon is also affordable compared to other salons. I recommend trying this salon. Thank you to Lene! First, I need to state that I am extremely picky with my hair (and everything else!) and am really hard to please. The Studeo and Lene probably deserve 5 stars but because I'm super picky, I'm going with 4. Anyway, I have been getting my usual blonde highlight/lowlight combo for years now but somehow, my hair had turned one hue of a yellowy but bright blonde. No dimension or depth or variation - just overall, GROSS! I'd been telling my hairstylist that I wanted to break up the color for the past few months but I just kept getting more yellow and no change. I visited Lene at The Studeo this weekend and i was really impressed. It was the most quiet salon I'd ever been to - literally just me and Lene for 2.5 hours. It was really nice, though, because she devoted ALL of her attention to me. She greeted me, cut & colored my hair, washed it - everything. Some people may not like this because it takes a little longer but personally, I enjoyed it because I felt like of like cattle being herded from station to station. She didn't have anyone scheduled for a cut while I was under the dryer, for example. Also, her personality is great and she had just the right amount of chattiness without being overbearing. We talked for a while but also sat in some comfortable silence. Lene really listened to me. She totally understood what I meant about the lack of dimension and grossness in my color and she really looked at my hair and examined what she needed to do. I'll definitely be back in a few months. I have known Frankie for a long time and was never one to take the plunge and go for an all out change. He had been cutting my husband's hair for years until one morning I decided I was tired of my boring brown. I have blondish hair and am very particular about color, and I went to Lene for a full-head balayage with a goal of looking like a very natural ombre. I walked out very pleased. I have blonde hair and only get my hair colored once every 5-6 months. I like a really natural look and am flattered with people are unsure of whether or not my hair is colored. Anyways, Lene did a great job and did exactly what I asked. She was extremely knowledgeable and really took her time doing my hair. She answered all of my questions. The reason this place isn't getting 5 stars is because it doesn't have an assistant/receptionist, and I think that contributed to some customers being slightly double-booked. I think there should be someone to greet people and answer the phones as well as able to shampoo while the stylists are busy doing other things or with other clients. But, I will be going back! I have never been happier with my hair! They are true experts here, and I've been to a LOT of salons. I'm very particular about my blonde - don't want it too brassy, too ashy, etc. These stylists know exactly what they're doing! And do it with such care and precision. They also have the latest and greatest treatments and products -- Kevin Murphy products are the ultimate for those who care about their hair color. Anyways, my hair ended up taking more than four hours - but Karen never complained. She was thorough and really took care of me. She even suggested a protein treatment they have (Oloplex) which strengthens colored hair like mine - it made my hair fuller and healthier. I've been coming to The Studeo for about two years now and I can't say enough good things about Frankie! I initially came in because I heard that Frankie was one of the best in DC with hair extensions and he's on the top of all of the reviews. I had been toying with the idea of hair extensions to add length to my hair and after my initial consult I was hooked. I did hairdreams nanos first, and then tried tape ins and I loved them both. I took a break from hair extensions to focus on color. We did balayage, all over bleach and tone, baby lights with a root stretch and what I loved most (other than the absolutely perfect color every time) was how flawlessly Frankie executed the color without damaging my hair. He has also done several treatments to keep my hair healthy and strong! Most recently I tried Bellami beaded wefts and they're amazing. I never thought I'd be doing of these reviews but after my last visit, I knew I just had to! I've been going to The Studeo for 2 years now because I read a couple reviews on Yelp of how great of a place it is. Everything about them makes me want to come back!! I ALWAYS get my haircut with Frankie and each time he gets it right. He's such a fun and skilled hair stylist that knows exactly what he's doing. I ended up confiding in Frankie and his team that I wanted to do a drastic change and dye my black hair to an icy-titanium color. I scheduled my appointment a month before because I was graduating college and wanted to match the winter season. Sadly, I cancelled the coloring because it wasn't in my holiday budget. When I walked in the day of my appointment, I thought I was just getting my regular haircut. As I'm in the chair halfway through my cut, Frankie tells me that he's going to give me the luxury of dying my hair, FREE OF CHARGE. Next thing I know we're prepping me and it's happening! They reassured me that everything was going to turn out great and it did. When I was done, I was shocked! I still am. It's been 2 weeks since and I'm still getting compliments about my hair. The color is holding pretty well, hair is smooth and it shows no sign of damage (which I was expecting bc I'm such a pessimist). Super impressed! I highly recommend Frankie for HD airbrush makeup! I don't wear much makeup so when I was having engagement photos taken, I thought I'd "treat" myself and get my makeup done. I even splurged and went with the airbrushing after Frankie mentioned it looked better in photos and he was right! Not only does it look better in photos but it just felt good and looked natural. We had pictures taken outside for 2 hours, then my fiancé and I went to dinner, then had drinks with friends and I didn't feel oily or have to reapply anything (except lipstick, of course) the entire night! Even my fiancé, who prefers me with less makeup really liked it and thought it looked natural. I would also recommend the fake eyelashes too! Not only was Frankie amazing at applying makeup, but he is super sweet too. It was raining that day and I didn't have an umbrella, so he trusted me with his. That was something above and beyond that he didn't have to do. I highly recommend him and if I wasn't getting married in Chicago, he'd be doing my wedding day makeup too! read more

I have been going to Frankie for years. We have done everything to my hair- balayage, highlights, every kind of color you can imagine, long hair, short hair- and I've loved it all! I currently have gone platinum blonde- something I never thought I could do with my naturally dark hair- and my hair is still healthy, shiny, and without breakage. Frankie is great at listening to what the client wants and taking the time to make sure it will look right with your hair texture and skin tone.
