She cut my hair dry, which is how it should be done, giving me great shape and layers. She only washed my hair after the cut was over, and used specific techniques to enhance volume. We were attending a Sunday wedding in Cleveland and The Studio was one of the few salons in the area open Sundays. My daughter got an updo and I had a blowout. Both our stylists were terrific! I have thick coarse hair and wanted some "beach curls' Maddie did an awesome job. She blow dried my hair and then did hot iron curls throughout my whole head of hair. My hair looked so great for the wedding. My daughter wanted a messy side bun, showed her stylist a photo - they conferred a bit and my daughter walked out with exactly the hairstyle she wanted. What I love about the haircut I got from Renee is that I really feel that based on how I was dressed and the little she knew about my hair (long, thin, curly but worn straight) and lifestyle (busy 20-something professional), she gave me a haircut that really "fits" me. While Christina was very friendly, I think she managed to give me the worst cut of my 26 year life... I asked for shorter layers on top, layers that were about as long as the tops of my ears. I left with an inch long chunk on the crown of my head that stands at attention like a sprout. Towards the end of my cut she said, "if you find any short pieces just tuck them in" at the time I didn't realize she meant that she royally messed up. In addition to my new alfalfa sprout, I have a rat tail also! None of the hair at the base of my neck should have been cut, I didn't ask for my long layers to be trimmed at all. What I got was half the length of my hair taken off on only one half of my neck. When I put my hair up to cover up my sprout I have a rat tail that won't stay in any updo.... Honestly I am more furious about the lack of honesty about the screw up than I am the cut... I mean my hair will grow back but I shouldn't have paid for this chop job. My advice, turn down the straight razor in Christina's hands, unless you want your hair butchered. read more

This is one mistake I will never make again! The only reason I gave them 1 star is because there is no option to give 0! I went into The Studio on the recommendation of a coworker and lets just say I was not pleased! The "stylist" who cut my hair basically gave me her whole sexual life story and explained she doesn't mind "fooling around" with married or attached men because at least she's not the one being cheated on! Who talks about these things with a new client?!?! *Note to self: never send my husband to her!* The "owner" was not much better either, rather than stopping such unprofessional behavior from going on in her salon she all but encouraged it! She herself stood around talking about all the men she keeps in her life and how she would never "sh!t where she eats" so she no longer "dates" clients! The other 2 girls on staff that day seemed unaffected by the trash they were surrounded by, and simply continued holding quiet conversations with their own clients, which leads me to believe this is not the first time they've heard this sort of talk and are probably just used to it! How sad! Although my haircut wasn't bad, it certainly wasn't worth the $45 I paid for it! All in all, I'd say my first (and last) visit to The Studio was very uncomfortable to say the least! I love having her cut my hair, she keeps me looking clean, sharp, and professional. She worked with me, and gave me lots of great suggestions and as a result I look so much better than I used to. Being extremely busy with all things at the hospital, when I get a day off to run around and do some errands I try to take advantage of it. In desperate need of a haircut, I called Paul Mitchell when they opened at noon and was able to get an appointment for later on in the day, I love places that are open on Sundays! Now, I've been living in NYC for the past couple of years and I always went to the B&B salon in Chelsea, so my standards were definitely high coming into this place (but Rachel B. hasn't led me wrong with her review yet! and neither has Elle magazine). To be honest, this salon in Cleveland is way better and way cheaper than one of the "higher-end" salons in NYC. I had roughly the same haircut with a couple of changes over the past 2 years in NYC and when I came in here I was ready for a change, I told my awesome stylist (Simon) to "do whatever he liked", that he could even take it above the shoulders just no pixie cut. My bf was really happy that Simon liked longer styles, b/c I'm sure if Rachelle had been cutting my hair it would have gone pretty short (I still would have loved it though!). Now, even though Simon only took off a couple of inches, my hair looks completely different with all the funky layers and the bangs that he put in. Now, I've never colored my hair b/c I've been told by other strawberry-blondes that when you dye your hair it basically doesn't come back to it's natural color again. But Simon told me about some kind of new product they had that was basically a "fading dye", that went away after about 4-6 weeks, sounded like Henna for the Hair to me, lots of voodoo science! lol But something that I would probably consider in the future from them. Usually I have such a hard time finding a salon that I like in a new city, but this was a great experience and I will keep coming back for more, maybe even that shorter haircut one day ;o) read more

Great salon with great service and friendly stylists. I've been here twice now, once for colors and once for a cut. I got an ombre dye done here, and I love it! They are creative but very skilled! The store owner is super friendly and adorable and the atmosphere in the salon is cozy. Whenever my girlfriends and I need a treat after exams, we come straight here and leave feeling like fresh new ladies! I usually call ahead to make an appointment, so I would recommend that. Don't go here if you have curly hair.. I had beautiful curls. They were the perfect spirals and I went in with several pictures of how I wanted my highlights..a honey blond, but they turned out green, after bleaching and putting two different toners in my hair trying to fix it it was a total nightmare!! Matt did my hair by the way. And in the end they went to just dye it back to black and still charged me $50!!!! I gave it a couple days and after my hair started thinning very, very bad I tried to get a refund and that's when all the niceness and smiles turned to attitudes and they said they charged me for the products used. The owner (she had short blond hair I forgot her name) said she'll give me a ring and I left a couple messages at at over was at the desk when she was "busy" and got nothing back. Matt also finger coiled one Half of my hair, then I guess he got lazy because he didn't even touch the other side didn't even comb it out just freaking diffused it. Hates a strong work but I strongly dislike this salon and will never ever return. It seen almost 7 months and I am will trying to recover my hair. First off, I love the style of this salon. I love that they upcycle all of their old flyers and refill old product bottles. I love the feel of the colors, the cleanliness and organization and the friendliness of the staff. I get my hair done by Renee and will never let another person touch these locks again! She talks me through ideas when I come to her and am not 100% sure of what I want and helped me learn how to style my short look. I decided to chop off all my hair a few weeks ago and I am still getting compliments on it. I highly recommend her if you don't currently have a stylist that you love. Her personality and ability to read people plus her knowledge of hair makes her an incredible stylist. I couldn't be more happy with my experience! The hairdresser couldn't even trim my bangs without getting really confused... which, honestly, probably is one of the basics of hair cutting (I'm assuming). I walked away $40 poorer and with hair that looked the same, if not worse, than when I walked in. Christina is fantastic! She literally saved my hair. I recently moved to Cleveland; had a terrible hair cut that left me traumatized and crying (I had asked for a trim to shoulder-length and was horrified when the stylist chopped off my hair till ear level! - ended up looking like a mushroom head). Devastated, I knew I needed someone to save it, and fortunately met Christina. She assured me that this was salvageable and that she would give me a cut that I would totally be in love with. She was patient, checked in with me many times during the cut, and really listened to all my concerns and what I wanted. I checked the Yelp reviews before I went to the salon today and saw there were bad ones for color, so didn't think twice. I was wrong. I scheduled with someone who the salon said was a pro at short hair cuts so I could have a good haircut for an important interview in 11 days. They were wrong. Now, my hair is too short and looks horrible. It took me everything I had not to cry at the salon today. I have no idea what I'm going to do. I know hair grows back, but not that fast. I am $50 poorer and the guy didn't even offer to do anything after I had him attempt to fix it twice. I am so screwed for my interview. If it was acceptable to shave my head, I would do so. I recently moved into the Ohio City/Tremont area and have tried several salons in both neighborhoods as well as downtown. Thanks to a gentle reminder of this salon with a recent Groupon offer, I decided to try this salon. The place is fun, hip decor and definitely a city/urban vibe that I enjoyed. As soon as I walked in the door, I was greeted with an upbeat attitude and knew I would like it there. Sometimes the hip places can be intimiting to me and I feel like people are judging or 'too good for you' attitude, but not here. Renee was great and helped me go outside of my comfort zone with my cut (which incidentally I have had a lot of compliments on) and really found a cut that even my husband said suits my face and style even though it was shorter than I would have personally chosen. I still love it! The only negative was the cost, but as most women will attest to, it is worth paying a little more for good attentive unassuming service and great hair design!! I will definitely go back and will recommend to my friends and people who ask about my cut. read more

I hate to do this, to any business in Cleveland, but in a service oriented business- customer service should be the number one priority. I have been coming to this salon since I moved to Ohio City, 4 years ago, to the same stylist. Unfortunately my stylist quit, from what I gather it was unexpected and not a planned departure. This of course stinks, you get comfortable with your stylist after that long. However, no one called to inform me of his departure- I had an appt scheduled with him the following week. I found out after a girlfriend called trying to get an appt with him and let me know after the fact. Upon calling in, I informed them I had an appt with Matt next week but I understand he no longer works there but no one had called me. The woman who answered advised me they'd been making calls but maybe they had the wrong number for me [they've been calling the same number for 4 yrs to confirm my appts] She read the number and it was correct, she then mentioned there was a note in the computer that someone tried calling me and left a message. While I understand calls sometimes do not go through, I have never heard of issues with a voicemail. After advising her no one left me a message she again was stuck on the fact that someone called and left a message. I then asked who my appt was with to which she told me I was technically not on the schedule as they weren't sure if I would be okay with another stylist. At this point I became aggravated, no message was left for me and in 6 Days I would've walked in to find I was not "technically" on their schedule. The woman was still hell bent that someone called an left me a message, but asked if I would still like to come to another stylist. I will no longer be going to The Studio, not even on the basis that Matt is no longer there- it is simply the lack of customer service. Instead of admitting someone dropped the ball and try getting a customer through the door she wanted to argue that someone tried informing me he left. Had she handled the entire situation differently I would've tried going to another stylist. read more

She proficiently styled my wavy hair, and was really personable while doing so. The kicker was that when I told her how much I liked her hair color, she made time to color my hair on the spot. It all turned out wonderfully. The staff is very familial, and atmosphere is more like hanging out with your friends, instead of a stuffy salon. It was personal service, with artisanal craftmanship (many of the ladies also teach, so they are up-to-date on the latest techniques). My first experience at The Studio occurred today. I was apprehensive, but was greeted warmly and enthusiastically upon arrival. I initially wanted to get a full highlight of ash blonde goodness. The stylist Renee, took one look at my broken, frazzled mess of a mane and consulted with me. The consultation went smoothly and we reached an agreement that she promised would tame my mess. Fast forward through a cut and color... and it's amazing! I typically hate short hair on myself, but Renee crafted an amazing blunt cut bob that removed my damaged ends and put beautiful soft golden brown highlights throughout. I'll be scheduling appointments in 8 week increments to trim off the remaining damage and to gradually lighten. While I would have never chosen this myself and it's not what I originally had hoped for, I love it all the same. My hair feels and looks gorgeous. I had previously always scoffed at the idea of a "premium" (read, anything more expensive than Best Cuts) salon, but I will gladly pay for Renee's services. LOVE LOVE LOVE!
