I did have the banana pudding ice cream which was delicious. My Wife and friends enjoyed their flavors as well. But to be honest it was a little bit pricey. This review is only about the ice cream. I seem to be exploring Savannah and its surround areas by way of ice cream and I am not complaining. I stopped by here on the way to the beach to grab a cone. The shop is pretty run down. Could use a fresh coat of paint and a good mopping of the floors. The ladies restroom was pretty awful. Everything just looked like it was stuck back a few decades. Asides from that, the girl at the counter was pleasant and helped me decide on a flavor. We settled on Coconut Almond Joy. I received a very generous single scoop on a waffle cone. It was absolutely delicious. I loved the pieces of coconut throughout and the chocolate syrup. It was creamy and awesome. I left happy. Would go back for the ice cream alone. read more

On the upside the ice cream was very good and the guy at the counter was very nice. The inner seating was closed. The outer seating was dingy. Is this just a side effect of being near the beach or because it is unkempt? I do not know. They do offer food but we did not try any. Not great. The ice cream was fine, not nearly as much flavor as most ice cream or somewhere like the Bruster's. The service was relatively poor, my wife was given chocolate chip cookie dough when she asked for sea salt turtle, and they argued that it was their correct flavor....until they tasted it. I had blackened tilapia sandwich and others had the bulldog fries and burger. The fish sandwich was quite good. It was fresh and seasoned well. After reading what everyone else has had to say on the Sugar Shack, I think all I can honestly do is rehash points already made. This is what you're looking at with the Sugar Shack in my experience: 1--Yeah, the milkshakes really are awesome. Seriously awesome. Maybe even worth braving the Sugar Shack for. 2--The place does look pretty dirty and icky . . . not a good thing for a restaurant. I have friends who have claimed to see roaches crawling around inside too, but I've not seen this myself. 3--The staff varies between being kinda rude and being really sweet. Even when they're sweet though, they (mostly it's young women who are the sweet ones here) seem like they wish they were somewhere else. I haven't tried the burgers and other non-ice cream goods here because really, there's better places to get such food . . . at least places more fun to sit down and eat a burget at, and closer to the beach at that. read more

Its Easter Sunday and I decided to spend it on the beach. On my way off the island I saw this place and decided to stop for some lunch. Private parking lot, good sandwiches and not nearly as expensive as the poor seafood places closer to the beach. This place also has some really good ice cream. Stopped by this business while in Tybee thinking with the name it would be a bakery. It's not a bakery at all but a restaurant that also has ice cream. First off the business looked very dirty. They have scooped ice cream and soft serve. The soft serve machine was not working. We opted for a milkshake. The milkshakes are 16 ounces and are $8.50 each. It seemed a bit high but we was already there so I got a cookies and cream and my wife got a vanilla bean. The two milkshakes after tax was almost $19. Both shakes were very good but I don't think they was anywhere worth that price. I can't speak for the food because all we got was shakes but I won't be visiting this establishment again. read more

We have been on Tybee Island almost a week and have yet to figure out the secret to knowing when they are open. I've seen people there early in the morning, but who wants ice cream/milkshakes before breakfast? The website states THREE different times for their hours. None of these have been correct as far as the evening ones are concerned. No one EVER answers the phone and the voicemail is full. Last night alone we watched as no less than two dozen people did as we finally did...pulled on the closed doors for the Sugar Shack and then walked across the street to fabulous ice cream and customer service. read more

Please quit writing on yelp and in articles that this is a Tybee staple that everyone needs to try because you trick newcomers like me into thinking it's going to be something special, it is dirty and run down. I think the best part about this place is that it's convenient and there is plenty of parking. We stopped here for a lazy brunch on a Monday morning. I've heard the ice cream is good, which is probably why this place is still in business. We were here recently before the season has really started and it was FILTHY. The floors could have used a good power washing, there was food under the tables, about a dozen dead flies on the window sills and the windows themselves were gross.
