The Summit at Coates run is possibly one of the worst experiences I have had with an apartment complex. First, they have a monopoly on the Athens area. If you don't resign your lease within a day, they increase the rent. Rent is cheaper the sooner you sign a lease, and they continually increase rent until it becomes upwards of $800 per month by December. Second, when I moved into my apartment it was absolutely disgusting. There were stains everywhere, mold in the bathrooms, mold on our HVAC system, grime and soap scum on all of my faucets. To top it off, our apartment had FLEAS when we moved in and no one informed us. We found out when we all had red bites all over our ankles. Maintenance sprayed for our fleas, but no rent concession or apology was made about the state of our apartment. Third, the wifi and power goes out often. When the wifi or internet does go out, it is out for HOURS and you have to make your way to campus to complete any work. For $625 per month EACH we shouldn't be experiencing issues like this frequently. Fourth, The Summit is money hungry and will attempt to get anyone who is subleasing to sign a new lease so they can make commission, screwing you over. The Summit at Coates Run would be a great place for you to live if you enjoy supporting money hungry companies, rarely having internet, rarely having power, having a disgusting apartment that smells like smoke, and if you want pay expensive rent for subpar amenities. read more

I yet again do not have wifi, an amenity included with the rent. My energy bill was incredibly expensive compared to other places I've lived (and those places did not have insulation). All in all, The Summit is a good place to live at off-campus at OU. The biggest problem I ever had was with some minor communication errors that resolved themselves or were easily fixed. Make sure to put a Gatorade or some sort of bottle cap over the panic buttons in the living area and the rooms so they don't get set off accidentally. Everyone in the apartment gets charged if that happens. The complex has plenty of room for pets, the facilities are well kept, the staff is nice and understanding, and the rent is fantastic for everything that it covers. I would strongly recommend these apartments if you're looking to live off-campus. read more

Look, here is the real 411 from someone who has lived here for two years. The staff truly does their best to provide the best service to its residents. These include full disclosure of what the resident will be expected of, fair pricing for the luxuries that they are providing; gym, tanning, community events, QUICK repair service, etc., wonderful apartment set ups are complete with furniture and amenities, and SEPARATE BATHROOMS! The maintenance gentlemen are kind and swift, the staff provides sufficient notice of quarterly checkups, and some of the office staff members are students (which makes the atmosphere more personable). Additionally, the facilities and grounds are clean and beautiful. Yes, it is pricy, but you pay for what you get, and the staff members are always willing to talk logistics out with you. The electricity and water overages are a bummer, especially during the winter months, but that can be avoided through personal limitations to showers and light usage and general conservation. read more

I have been a resident for a year and I have found that according to sales consultants as long as you pay rent they don't care about the contract as much . I had issues with roommates so they moved me to another room known to be constantly fined for smoking in the room . I highly suggest you look somewhere else to live if you can - oh and i mention its expensive ? not worth it in my opinion. read more

Advantages: I've lived in a few places and never heard of an affordable apartment with so many amenities. It costs about $650 a month to live here, give or take, and I get a huge corporate-owned development with basic furnishings (bed, desk, chairs, living room with couch, TV stand, small kitchen); its own gym; internet cafe; TV-viewing room; movie theater (it plays DVDs and costs $50 to reserve); pool and shuttle service (for a one-time fee) to campus and downtown. Rent also includes wifi, cable TV (HD isn't available from what I can tell) and utilities. The disadvantage: This large apartment complex, like the slightly older one across the street called University Courtyard, is up on a steep, steep hill overlooking the city. I'm out of shape, so it's impossible to walk all the way back from campus and then walk up that hill. What's more: my roommate is in decent shape, and he refuses to do it. My classmate says the same thing -- that the hill is a problem. Because parking is limited in downtown Athens, if you're living at The Summit make sure you pay the $45 fee for shuttle service. The bus is exactly like a top-notch city bus (not like a school bus, which another apartment complex has); it is air-conditioned with room for sitters and standers and two exits. The hill is a singular problem, but it's a large one. If you don't have a car and prefer to ride a bicycle, good luck with that. Because I don't care who you are -- take a look at it -- it's basic geometry. You just can't travel up that incline without motor transportation. Other than that, The Summit has been a fine place for my first week of graduate work. There's a lot of partying going on, but that's Athens for you. UPDATE: A letter to the editor of the campus newspaper recently reported some false advertising on the part of The Summit. That is, The Summit advertises a 10-minute walk to the Baker Center from your apartment. This claim is misleading if not a lie. It would take a fast, athletic pedestrian at least 20-minutes to get to Baker, and a regular person about 30. What's more, the walk back is absolutely impossible. You won't do it unless you're an athlete. School has been going for more than a month now, and I can say casually that it's common knowledge here in Athens that nobody walks home to the Summit. That hill is unassailable. read more

Okay. Before you live here please read this. This place will take any chance to up-charge you, whether you forget your key, leave trash outside of your place (might not even be yours), maybe if you look at them too long lol. Automatically add 5$ to your monthly rent for electric or something like that. The people in the office are not really professional and are usually on their phones. There are very dim lights at night lighting up the parking lot which makes it scary when your walking alone. The only way to get through to them is if your parents are the ones that call about something because they don't take younger people seriously. To get out of lease is $400 and a replacement.. I guess that could be normal but my friend wanted to release and they wouldn't even let her change the apartment to another one up here next year without giving them $400 since she originally said to stay in this apartment. They suck... I have had a really good experience living at this complex over the past 6 months. The facilities are well taken care of, and if there ever is an issue maintenance has been quick to respond. The front office staff has been great as well! A staff member named Megan made the signing process extremely simple and stress free for myself and my roommate, and she has jumped at every opportunity to help me whenever I have had an issue since. While the apartments seem like they are a little pricey, I found that with amenities and utilities included it makes the expense very worth it. Hands down the best living residence here in Athens. I do not work for the summit and never have, so this is not a sponsored message lol. But on a serious note, I worked as a community assistant and as a residential assistant at two separate locations and trust me this is the place to be.It is all inclusive (Gas, water, electricity, heat, sewage). The only payments you have to worry about are recurrent rent payments, possible overages in electricity (i only paid an overage of 10-15$ in the winter season) and the one time payments for the on premise transit service that takes you directly to the school and back and the parking passes. So to explain everything I will break this down into categories and provide pros and cons of each category. Living space 4x4: For roughly 625 a month (reason being that this price can vary if you opt to pay the credit card service fee (21-24$) or money order (1-3$)), it provides adequate space. The apartments are clean, presentable and orchestrate living among four people. Pros: Your own bathroom and living space. In unit washer and dryer, dishwasher, microwave, electric stove, island and big living room space. Cons: Walls are thin above and directly next to you. And depending on which floor plan you have, your bathroom could be potentially located across from your bedroom although its not too far (maybe 1-2 feet away). Make sure to bring bug spray especially if you are on the first floor (like I am) because you see your occasional creepy-clawlies. Internet: Pretty fast speed internet and is included in the rent Pros: Fast Cons: Not so reliable, it kicks out every now and then. It typically kicks out at night the most (9pm-onward). so some opt to get there own internet but I am using the internet to write this review so it works!! Maintenance: PROS ONLY: If you put a work order in the maintenance people respond really fast and know what they are doing. Honestly, these guys are LEGENDARRRRRRRRRRRY....enough said. Office staff: PROS ONLY: they are as friendly as can be, knowledgable and assist you in every way that they can. I remember that I made a suggestion to benefit the premise and within minutes the manager responded stating that they are aware of it and are working on implementing it as well.....does not get any better than that. Premise: PROS: The summit is on a hill so that protects you from any flooding that Athens is very susceptible of. CONS: When it snows, if you don't have a powerful enough vehicle, you aren't going to make it up the hill with snow on the ground. Also, the summit does a great Job of cleaning the snow but you may have to wait a little bit before they arrive especially if its heavy snow. Hope this review helps you all!! read more

Lived here for two years and constantly had problems with one office worker telling me one thing and another saying the opposite. We moved out and magically damage appeared and they "lost" our move in forms. They make empty promises they cannot keep. Do not live here! The staff are rude and speak to you with perfunctory scripted responses. They don't care about their residents, all they care about is getting every last penny out of them. Pam Jackson, the property manager, doesn't even respond to emails and it's impossible to contact her via phone or in person. When you move out they will look for every little imperfection in the apartment and bill you for it even if you didn't cause it. They charged me $200 for a replacement mattress for a small 1 cm diameter mark on my mattress of unknown origin that could have easily been cleaned with any cleaning agent. They will also charge you around $40 to shampoo the carpet and "replace" the carpet even if it's spotless. I can guarantee that they won't even replace the mattress or carpet. I have personally seen them clean and they do a terrible job. I don't even feel like explaining all of the other bad experiences that I have had with the Summit. Please take my word for it and never live hear. The incessant spamming of Ohio University students' emails, Craigslist, and posting posters on every poster-board in OU buildings should be a red flag. read more

Had a good experience moving in. The staff was kind, friendly, and very helpful. Note that there are not any elevators, so moving heavy objects in and out may be difficult. Apartments were dirtier than expected, but I moved in early in the summer so I'm not sure if they do clean them after the previous tenant moved out. Individual rooms are spacious. read more

When my son came to move in, there was a computer glitch that removed his application from the data base. He had no place to go. Within one hour, the team (taking time to help on a Sunday) made arrangement for temporary living. Then, without asking, gave us $200 off our early move in fee and $150 gift card. Even better, they made sure that his permanent apartment was right next door, so we didn't have to do a lot of lugging of our stuff. KUDOS to the team at Summit for taking fast action and going above and beyond in a situation that could have been very stressful. (Oh, and the place is beautiful) read more

The Summit does offer nicely furnished apartments. Each bedroom has its own bathroom and furnishing tables, beds, dressers, etc. is a real plus for student living. Unfortunately, the staff is under trained and ignorant on most polices. Expect to be treated well until you sign a lease, at which time you will be largely forgotten. There are hidden fees (e.g., the bus pass is mandatory) and rude employees. Your concerns and complaints will most likely be ignored (I've even gone as far to write a letter to the parent company of The Summit voicing my concerns, only to be ignored again). Think twice about signing a lease with The Summit. While the furnished apartments are nice, they do not in anyway make up for all of the problems I've encountered in the past year and a half. read more

The Summit offers HUGE, fully furnished apartments at a rate comparable to anything you would find on Court St and much nicer. If you are looking for QUALITY apartments at a good rate this is definitely the place to be. They have AMAZING residents events that you sure as hell aren't going to get anywhere else. Hot dogs to my door and breakfast at midnight? Thank you, Summit. The staff is extremely attentive to problems, I have never had a problem with them. Be kind, respectful and understanding and you will be treated the same way. Maintenance is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. They are quick to fix things right and the first time. I cannot say enough good things about those guys. The property is always pristine and presentable. To overcome some poor reviews I have seen: You will get electricity overages, expect them and budget for them and you will have no problem at all. Remember these are big apartments thinking your electric bill will be covered with the cap is just poor planning. The office very upfront about this, too. You will always have a parking place at The Summit sometimes it just will not be close to your apartment. The property in general is not that big and while no one necessarily wants to walk it's not that big of a deal. Yes, you will get late fees if you pay your rent late, no you will not get a free pass on late rent. Just pay your rent on time and you will be fine. I was never once fined while living at The Summit because I just followed the rules. I think the biggest problem is people are upset because they didn't follow the rules and got penalized. Read your lease and know the rules. You do get warnings, take them and don't do it again. If you want to party every night and be uptown all the time, I will be honest this is probably not the place for you. The bus is an awesome service, though it does have some time issues to not fault of The Summit...traffic happens and the walk is not really that bad. I moved out and owed The Summit $0. I kept my apartment clean for the duration of my lease and cleaned when I moved out and was fine. Most of the people I know who have moved out of The Summit owed very little or nothing at all. OVERALL: The Summit is the best housing you will find in Athens. Be respectful and use your brain and you will do just fine. Don't be brought down by the bad reviews. read more

I have a book full of reasons that I would never recommend the summit to anyone ever! And these are the main ones not including the number of things that I overlooked simply because I was tired of dealing with the incompetent staff. I do not ever write reviews but I figured if I could save someone from the awful situations they put us through that it would be worth it. 1) When we first moved in to our unit it wreaked of moth balls. They lied and told us it was the air vent. They replaced the air vent and it still smelled so bad and was getting all over our clothes! The manager handed us dog powder that goes on animal urine and told us to put that all over the apartment! It obviously didn't work. The manager then told us he knew that it smelled of moth balls in there before we moved in but that he had the cleaning ladies come in twice to clean it so it should not smell anymore. After he admitted he lied by telling us it was the air vents we demanded a new unit and were not given one until one of our moms had to get involved and call his higher up. Why they wouldn't listen to us and we had to get our moms involved is still a mystery. 2) There was mold in the apartment.... everywhere! This happened during the winter time after we moved into our new place and we tried to call maintenance and they told us it was candle soot. Then when I moved out here was mold all over my mattress cover! Candle soot... I think not! 3) They tried to renovate our unit in the middle of our lease! We received NO WARNING that this was happening and found out through asking the leasing agents when the renovations were happening. They also told us that we were NOT PERMITTED in the unit that we pay rent for every month for 10 days from the hours of 9am-5pm which is ILLEGAL! We wasted countless hours and talked to countless people and they kept telling us that this was legal. It got to the point were we had to get an attorney involved to get anything solved. 4) There are potholes EVERYWHERE! They do not ever get fixed! I got a flat tire on one and asked that they please fix them because they become unavoidable. They refused and said they were repaving the next summer. 5) There are so many other things that happen that you get no warning about! For example I showed up to my apartment one day and the cable was shut off! No one told me that we had to go pick up a box from the cable company. They also came in to our unit countless times to put in their new wifi. There were several times these random guys showed up to our unit with NO NOTICE AT ALL-which is also ILLEGAL! When they renovated the gym it was closed for several days which we received NO NOTICE about either! Also DO NOT rely on the printer in the office. It NEVER has ink. I COULD GO ON AND ON BUT LONG STORY SHORT DO NOT LIVE HERE! We were GOOD tenants and paid rent on time every month. The way we were treated is beyond unacceptable. read more

Summit is very nice if you are considering an inclusive experience. All the utilities are included and the facility has great furnished rooms with private bathrooms plus you have access to study room, movie theater, fitness center, tanning beds and pool. The facilities also have their own Buses (they come more frequently than other buses in the town) so you can go to uptown very easily. Especially if you are a student, living in a cheaper place than Summit might cost you a lot more with the utilities and other stuff Summit is providing. On certain days, they also serve free food & beverages for the residents in the common room! I am a new resident and I already love living in Summit. I lived in other places but Summit is by far the best choice. read more

This place should honestly be shut down. It is truly saddening to see so many people have horrible experiences there. I lived there 2 years ago and just out of curiosity checked in to see if the place got any better. Apparently it's just as nightmarish as when I left. The management is the rudest you will ever encounter and when you move out they will try to fine you for things that never happened like: $200 for a stained mattress that was indeed spotless because I checked before I left. Plus extra bags of trash that you "left behind" when truly I did 5 checks around the place to be sure I didn't leave anything. BUT!!! Let me please help those who might be charged when you move out!!! Just ignore the phony charges!! I never paid for the mattress or trash bag fees because I know they were bogus and they never took action against me to get me to pay for them. If I really did owe them, they would have cared more. This is my first year living at the Summit and I really enjoy it! On a scale from 1-10 I would give it a 9.5. I chose to live at the Summit because it was very convenient and affordable. I pay one amount each month and it includes everything: internet, water, heat, AC, electric, everything. It was convenient because I have no furniture and no means to transport it, so the fully furnished aspect appealed to me! The only think I dislike about where I live, is just that, where. I am too close to campus to qualify for an on-campus parking permit. If they could somehow strike a deal with the Ohio University to get us passes, I would be sooo happy! Although, the bus service offered here DOES help with that; I enjoy riding the bus because the drivers are funny and friendly! read more

This is the first year I've lived at the summit. The price is right for the area since the complex includes all utilities except a 100 dollar per month cap on electricity per apartment. The facilities are only 2 years old so everything is fresh and new. The apartments come fully furnished and i would rate the living room furniture a 3 out of 5. They are leather but not the most comfortable in the world. The pool and gym are very nice and i use them a lot. Our bar is nice and large and the appliances are decent. There is also plenty of storage in the kitchen and bedrooms. The biggest problem i have experienced that i didn't expect was the lack of quality of the units. The paint is very cheap and marks up quickly and our carpet is already fraying at the seams. Our unit is actually not even a year old. We are the first residents. There are little things here and there like gaps behind electrical face plates and crooked trim. You can tell at first glance that the complex was built hastily. The most annoying part of the entire unit is the fact that there is no lighting in any room accept the kitchen. Each of the other rooms have one outlet that is controlled by a light switch so this can be restricting when arranging a room. Management is friendly and helpful when you go to the office, but requests are not consistently followed up on. Communication between employees seems to be the biggest issue. I requested copies of paperwork multiple times and have still yet to receive them. After an entire quarter went by i simply gave up. The insurance offered through place properties looks great on paper but when filing a claim there are many hoops to jump through as well. Overall the Summit is a solid deal when it comes to off campus housing in Athens. The majority of houses in Athens are run down and borderline condemned and landlords are still asking $600 a month plus utilities. Relative to what is offered around here i would recommend the Summit to friends. I would just tell them to watch what touches the walls and make sure you constantly watch electric usage... That $100 cap comes awfully fast. read more

This is my first home away from home, and I'm very happy with it. Rent is a little high, but average for the area, especially when you consider that it includes water, sewage, trash, internet, cable, tanning and heat minus overages. Basically once you have paid rent for the month, all you have to worry about is food and gas for the month. For $605 a month (price may be different for next year) that doesn't seem so bad. I have my own private bathroom, and furnished room. The closet here is bigger than my one at home.The living room and kitchen are awesome, my mom and I made our christmas cookies here because of the counter space. I am an only child and like that when I want to get away, I can just lock myself in my room. Some of the other reviews complains about the hill, yes it is a deterrent, but I have walked from from Baker back to the Summit and done it in 20 mins and I am in horrible shape. My roommate walks to campus and back daily and says she counts the hill as her workout. Plus that is is why the bus runs every 20 mins and it also runs Friday and Saturday nights so you don't have to worry about drinking and driving/walking. I've had to make a few maintenance requests, all of which were taken care of the same day. If you have a problem, let the office know; they are very good about making things right. Over all very happy with the Summit. My parents and I looked all over Athens for a place we all liked and I believe this is the best choice, and still feel that way. read more

I would highly recommend living at The Summit. Most housing in Athens is pretty deplorable but The Summit is like an oasis from that. The rooms are huge (some are awkwardly shaped so you can't adjust the furniture much but still large) AND you get your own bathroom. The living room and kitchens are a good size, too. Price wise it is on the higher end but if you compare to anywhere on campus where they DON'T include utilities, it is almost exactly the same and for what you get it is definitely worth paying a little more. I will admit the internet was not good last year but there was an internet upgrade over the summer and it is working MUCH better. If the printer doesn't work, the office will print for you. The gym is small but if you need to get a quick workout in it's perfect. The tanning beds are free, if you want to use them but they do book up quickly. If you miss the bus, there is one ten minutes behind it. If you bus is full the mornings, get up ten minutes earlier and take the before. In all reality, you walk less living at The Summit Maintenance is AMAZING. You will NOT be disappointed with them. They fix things quick and well. They will never let you down. They are by far the greatest asset at The Summit. Yes, you will get late fees if you pay late. Put a reminder in your phone, have check book handy (paying online is $18.95 a check book is cheaper and there is more peace of mind dropping it in the box.) and drop it off in the office. You even get a grace period until the third. The Summit covers things you will be fined for at move in. Don't park without a pass, you will get towed. Don't put trash outside your door or in the trash can, you will get fined. Pick up after your pet, you get fined if you don't. I realize this is a "college" apartment but be responsible of your actions and you will do fine. I know PLENTY of people who escaped The Summit without a single fine or crazy charges at move out. PLEASE READ!!!! I LIVED AND WORKED THERE!! This is going to seem a little long-winded, and I never write these things; however, as a former resident and employee of The Summit (meaning that I know how the property operates much more than a resident), I'm hoping that this review will help someone make an educated choice about living there. Advantages: 1. The amenities are pretty great: pool (though small), gym (which has been greatly improved over the last year), a theater (which is really pretty but rarely operates correctly), a shuttle (which is SOO convenient, but if the school shuts down, the bus shuts down regardless of the fact that the property isn't affiliated with the university and not everyone living there is a student), and a computer lab with "free" printing (you have to bring your own paper and more often than not the printer is out of ink and a few people in the office can be a bit ridiculous about how much you print) 2. AMAZING maintenance staff: this is perhaps the best thing about The Summit. The maintenance guys are amazing. They are so nice and helpful, and they get to everything extremely fast. 3. The apartments are beautiful. They're pretty new, and all the appliances are nice. Even the smallest floor plan is very big. You have your own bathroom. Disadvantages: 1. Be prepared for some crazy, unexpected fees!!! There is literally a fee for everything. You have to really watch your step. -$25 per bag of trash that you leave outside your door (they constantly bitch about people leaving trash outside the door, but the property is massive with over 800 bedrooms and there is ONE trash compactor in the back of the property- for some people it is a 10 min walk to take out the trash- no big deal, right?- get off your lazy butt and take your trash out- however, keep in mind that you have at least 2 roommates living there and sometimes you'll come home late to trash that smells up the whole apt and you just want to sit it outside the door until morning so you don't have to walk it to the compactor in the middle of the night- the office will understand, right?- WRONG- they'll fine you for $25 because the manager is always bitching about budget issues, and more than likely you'll get a certain couple of people that work in the office who will be stupidly rude about it) -late fees on the rent: they do give you a grace period; however, if anything comes up (doesn't matter if there is a tragic death in your family, your car was stolen, your rent check was ripped out of your hand while you walked down the street, or you're lying in a hospital bed hanging on for dear life) if your rent is late, you will be charged a late fee ($35 on the 1st day late and $10 added to it for every day after that) -wanna pay your rent online?- sure, for an additional $18.95 each time if you don't set up autopay (only one $18.95 charge if you do) -wanna pay in the office?- sure, only check or money order (keep in mind that if your dad pays your rent and you just have to cover the electric overage and you only went over $.05 one month, they will literally leave notes on your door telling you to come pay that 5 cents and if you come in with a nickel, they'll make you go get an money order for it) -the list for fines literally goes on and on and on: kept your mom's dog for two days-FINED; got a little sticky tack on the wall-FINED; key broke off in the lock-FINED; microwave rack missing when there wasn't one when you moved in-FINED; didn't pick up your dog's poop in the pouring rain or 2 feet of snow?-FINED; etc, etc, etc -THE PET POLICY IS THE MOST RIDICULOUS THING I'VE EVER HEARD: wanna bring your dog or cat?- sure, but you're going to pay $250 upfront and $25 extra per month and they call it a deposit, but they leave out the fact that it COVERS NOTHING. When you move out, you will still pay for any damage that your animal might have done down to the tiniest little stain and you get no money back that you had paid in (WHAT DID YOU PAY IT FOR?- who the hell knows?) 3. There are some great people on the staff, but they are unfortunately under the supervision of some ridiculous people that literally enjoy being an asshole to the residents. One employee in particular actually prides herself on her ability to find things to give people violations/fines for. These are the things that matter. Not the hill-it's just a little exercise, who cares? and when you drunk walk home, you don't remember that you walked up that hill. Here is your biggest problem when it comes to living at The Summit: There is one person that works in the office that literally invents new ways to annoy residents...constantly making up new rules and arbitrarily assigning fines or punishments for breaking them. The Summit has been a wonderful place to live for the past few months. The rent can seem daunting and maybe even a little steep considering it's not even on campus, but you get what you pay for! The apartments come finished with beds, desks, and couches!! It's been truly amazing for both me and my roommates to have our own bedrooms and bathrooms. Also, we hardly ever go over our electricity limit (last month we all had to pay about $6, which is pretty small in the grand scheme of things). Another great aspect I've encountered is that the maintenance staff tries to get your requests done as efficiently as possible. Our microwave broke during the first month of moving in and it only took 2 business days to fix! Our dishwasher also broke recently but it was fixed in a few business days as well. The Summit staff has always been very respectful and understanding towards me and my concerns. The gym and pool facilities are spectacular. And they even have a transit bus that runs daily to campus! I highly recommend living at The Summit, it's been a great experience. read more

The management is incredibly disrespectful when there is an issue. Maintenance has repeatedly left my lights on and left my apartment unlocked, and I did not even get so much as an apology from the prick owner when I made the issue known. The location is terrible, and don't let them convince you that the bus system makes it okay -- the bus system is unreliable and inconvenient. I had to call off of work one day because classes were cancelled, and the Summit doesn't run the buses if classes are cancelled. Weekend? Stuck in the apartment. If you have any obligations outside of class, this place is extremely inconvenient by every definition of the word. They will charge you an added fee for EVERYTHING under the Sun, and their rules are very strict. For a place that's so expensive, it's not at all worth it. This should be a last resort, because there are absolutely no benefits to living here. Only inconveniences. read more

I lived there for 3 years and it was by far one of the worst places I've ever lived in! I urge everyone to read this before they sign a lease! The apartment complex itself is very nice looking, and very deceptive. The real reason this place is unlivable is the management. The people who manage this place are some of the worst I've ever dealt with and the reason most people dislike this place. They do not care about you at all, only your money. They are rude, disrespectful, and consistently unhelpful. I'll explain ONE situation that happened to me while living there, that really defines how bad the management is. When I moved in, I signed a paper stating that I would be living in a pet free apartment because of my allergies to animals. Dogs in particular are a huge problem for me and I had that specifically stated in my file. However, during the summer of 2013, I came home to not only a girl in my apartment I didn't know, but a huge yellow lab! The dog jumped me immediately as I walked in and the girl explained that she was my new roommate! Obviously I was shocked and said "That's impossible you can't be, they didn't tell me I had a new roommate and they know I'm allergic to dogs!" She preceded to hand me a paper, which I had to sign to allow the dog to live here, completely ignoring the fact that I said I couldn't live with the dog. Now here's the problem. The summit is required to have you sign that paper to legally have an animal in the apartment. The roommates are required to agree to it BEFORE the animal moves in. They are also supposed to inform you of a new roommate and the animal HAS to be under 50lbs, of which an adult lab is NOT. Instead of actually following procedures, they failed on all accounts to do what they are required to do and instead did the opposite, demonstrating their complete lack of regard for following rules. When I went down to talk to management about this issue, they entirely didn't care and didn't seem to understand the problem. It was only when I threatened to call corporate did they agree to talk this over with me. When we discussed the issue of the dog living in my apartment the only thing they had to say was "Well there is no where else the dog can go, it has to stay there" meaning they couldn't put the girl or the dog in a new apartment. The way it works is one animal per apartment and apparently all apartments were "taken", therefore they moved the dog into a "pet free" one. They would neither confirm or deny that they randomly placed the animal without looking at my file beforehand and would not apologize or blame themselves for the mix-up. If anything, they blamed ME more than once for the "drama" the situation caused and even went so far as to suggest that maybe I wasn't THAT allergic and was more upset with the new roommate! They stated that I had to be the one to move out and that they would be NICE enough to not make me pay the fee to move. This whole "faking it" debacle was quickly squashed when I had my doctor fax them a copy of my medical records along with a hand written note from him. After all this I did end up calling corporate to resolve the situation having no idea what else to do! The manager was obviously very upset with this and did not treat me kindly, as if she did before. She then proceeded to tell me that THEY were getting THEIR lawyer involved and I had to get mine involved as well. All of this just to find a new roommate and her dog another apartment to live in after THEY incorrectly placed them! So in the end after telling me almost every 2 weeks they "found" her a place and later learning "didn't work out", it ended up being 3 months before she found a new home. All the while I was camped out in my room with my inhalers unable to go into the common area to get food or relax, because there was a dog in there, for 3 months! However, I was not budging on moving out. I decided that I should not be forced to move to a new place because of a problem they caused, especially since I had lived in that apartment for 2 years now. I was not going to allow them to kick me out. When she left three months later, there was also a battle with the summit about cleaning the apartment because apparently they were not obligated to clean it! All the dog hairs, etc according to them were not required to be cleaned up and although my lawyer got them to say they would do it, I could tell they half assed it because dog hairs were still there. All in all, do not live here! These are not the kind of people you want to deal with and this is only ONE situation that occurred to Me alone. The managers are horrible, and will take all liberties they think they can get away with. They can afford to act this way according to my lawyer because students don't win lawsuits in Athens. About the bus: on the weekends, IT IS NEVER ON TIME. expect to be left out in the cold. You would have to wait an entire half an hour to catch the bus driver because he does not know how to follow a bus schedule. I will remove this review when I go through an entire weekend being picked up ON TIME by the bus. read more

I came to The Summit, because I have never been to OU before and I was alone in Athens Ohio. They were very cooperative in getting me a place to stay on such short notice. I did not have a car or any furniture so it was convenient because transportation and furniture were provided for me.
