This was one of the better smaller local restaurants we stopped at during our Maine route 1 trip in the northern part of the state. Overall, in the more northern/more rural areas service was more relaxed and slower. The food was also just more average. Compared to some other spots Fort Kent had a decent amount of options and this was the spot we settled on. It was by no means busy during this time of the year and like similar places service was decent, food did come out quickly and our order was taken at a good pace also. The attentiveness was just less than I typically expect especially considering it was not that busy. This place looks like what you would expect from a rural Maine spot and fitting along with the name they have antler chandeliers. Also, an emphasis on wood to give that rustic feel. On to the food; they have a good variety that would make even picky eaters feel like they have options. A huge number of appetizers then salads, burgers, seafood, sandwiches, and desserts. My wife got a bowl of French onion soup and a taco salad while I got their chicken finger luncheon with fries. The taco salad had a great taco seasoning on the meat and the chips tasted fresh. Chicken fingers were tasty with a delicious batter but were surprisingly small. Decent food at decent prices just not any bites I would need to return for. For the area its in, solid but compared to less rural areas I don't think it would stand up. read more

Can't go wrong with the fried zucchini sticks....the horseradish dip makes them extra tasty!! Country fried chicken or steak is a total favorite in our house! Can never finish it and second time around with leftovers is always just as good. The staff is always helpful, friendly and fun. The restaurant is usually clean and seats are comfortable. read more

I have eaten at this restaurant several times and the food was decent. I went with my husband on a Tuesday evening and when I walked in noticed trash on the floor such as napkins, food etc. when taken to the table it had a napkin, crayon and opened container of butter underneath the table and coasters balancing the stool. Another family came in and was taken to a booth where a large party had just left and there was trash all around the table and I heard them comment on that fact. the fact that a waitress would seat customers at tables with trash underneath them and go and sit at the front desk and chat it up is unacceptable and I am Not sure I will return. We stopped in during our stay because the restaurant looked like one of the nicer spots in the area. The decor was tasteful, and the menu had a good variety of options. The food itself was okay, a bit on the pricey side, but we might have overlooked that if not for the fly situation. Unfortunately, the dining experience was pretty uncomfortable. It was in the 80s outside, and it didn't feel like the A/C was working well, if at all. We were fanning ourselves and our food because of flies trying to land on our plates. They were relentless. At one point, we were literally swatting them out of our dishes. We asked the waitress (who was amazing) about the flies and she said it was because the door gets opened a lot. Fair enough, but we visited several other busy restaurants in the area during our five-day stay, and none of them had flies like this. It left us wondering how many were buzzing around the kitchen, too. Sadly, we didn't return for a second visit. With some attention to climate control and pest prevention, this place could have a lot more potential. read more

I was in town for business at the near by Medical Center looking for a bite to eat for lunch. I got the French onion soup and the chicken sandwich (Big Chicken Burger). Soup was great. The chicken sandwich was so fresh and very tastey!! Also very big, I could only eat half. Ok, so the meal I got was the best I've had in a long time. I admittedly forget what it was called, but it was haddock baked in a cream sauce with artichokes, spinach, and fresh tomatoes, then topped with a cheese blend. Oh my goodness! Wow! It was hands down the best meal I've had in so long. I had it served with the spaghetti, and I'm pleased to report that it was fresh cooked and not microwaved like other places in the area, and the marinara was just a solid really good and simple marinara. I also got the salad with it, and the balsamic was the sweetest balsamic. It was just an amazing meal from start to finish. Food is always good at swamp buck! Sometimes burgers are overcooked. But usually excellent food. I went for lunch with a group of friends. Everyone agreed it was delicious. 4 of us had the special which was an Asian salad with blackened shrimp. It was so tasty including the dressing. I wish it was on the regular menu. Even though they charge for rolls at lunch, they are well worth the .30. One of us ordered the French onion soup. Always on the menu and always delicious. The food and service is good. However, the owner needs to get the restaurant fly free. There were a ton of flies flying around the table, food, and people. Very unsanitary and annoying for the paying consumer. I will probably not visit again until the situation is under control. They need to fix the holes in the screens and keep the doors shut as much as possible. The owner also should invest some money and place the Zevo insect traps in the outlet. Pretty much the only game in town... They have a nice bar area with TVs and some tables, and regular restaurant seating.. Surprisingly some pretty nice beers on tap including Long Trail Double Bag IPA - which was very tasty. For din-din, I ordered the salmon, but should've had the burger. It was just ayight. The food is mediocre at best and the service leaves everything to be desired. First time dining here and my family ordered takeout. The order was very basic and we arrived to learn staff had no idea what we had ordered even after verbally read it back on the phone. Waited an additional 20 minutes after the order was ready for them to make the items that were missing from the order only to arrive home and discover the order was still completely wrong. On a visit to fort Kent we were seeking a place to eat. Not many choices in this area of the country. The swamp bucket was just what we were looking for. Great food, great service and great prices! This has many of the features one might expect in a northern Maine location: deer antler chandeliers, deer heads sticking from the walls, flashing tube lighting around the doors? The big surprise is the excellence of the food. They say that they prepare much of their own meat - nothing frozen or prepackaged. And it showed in both the fantastic humble cheese burger and the exotic blackened prime rib. Both were exceptional. The appetizer was a "Swamp Lilly" which is a deep fried onion. It arrived at the table minutes after ordering, it was hot and it was delicious. The only down side was the portions - huge! We ended up eating only half of the food and found ourselves staggering around on the streets afterwards in a bloated mess:-) A real gem in Northern Maine! read more

Stopped in this little hidden gem while touring around Maine. From the outside it looks like a little local hangout but I was pleasantly surprised to have had the best turkey club I have ever had. The wait staff was excellent considering our group was about 15 people. Drinks kept coming and the food didnt take to long either. Family stopped into celebrate son's birthday for dinner. The waitress did not introduce herself, and when asked what the special was she had to go check, which I thought was understandable until she mentioned she'd been working there for awhile. Drinks and appetizers were ok, main course came out for 5 of us while the 6th person at our table waited 20 more minutes due to a mess up in the kitchen. The dill chicken was dry, possibly reheated in the microwave, and tasted burnt. Not once did our waitress ask how our meal was or if we needed anything else. Over priced yet good. Sometime they will reheat food from past days which is disgusting but I haven't had that happen in quiet a few visits I think it was just a fluke. The staff is amazing most know some French few know an amazing amount since we're so close to the boarder. It's very good for people who like a quick beer or people who want to sit down and enjoy life. The lemonade is fabulous I get it every time I go their and it never disappoints me. They tend to yell within the kitchen out of anger but having one two many people in a kitchen, from experience... is extremely frustrating especially when it's full my only complaint is THE PRICE. After a long trip up to Fort Kent, this place really hit the spot. This is pretty much the number 1 place to go because there really isn't much else in the area. Dined here last month, ordering a decent pan-fried fish, and found the cost to be very reasonable.

I really wanted to love this quaint and homey place in town. Just not going to happen. I asked for a medium rare steak salad...I got an overdone unflavored pan- fried slab of meat on top of wilted lettuce with an overly thick and flavorless "raspberry vinaigrette". The salmon was fine, but over-priced considering the mashed potatoes were dry and no fresh veggies were included, even though advertised as such on the menu.
