So I showed up during what I would suspect dinner rush was around 530pm, parking lot packed and a line of people, line was quick, girl running the counter was pleasant and took our order promptly, and wow was I amazed, food came out quick, burger was cooked just right, and fries were crispy! I had the chicken cordon bleu, which I thought a surprisingly sophisticated offering for a roadside former Tasty Freeze. It was simple, but delicious. I suppose it paired well with my cider float. They certainly gave me a lot of fries and ketchup; also delicious. Service was quick and helpful. Besides drive thru, there are tables outside and inside. Lots of ice cream treats for kids and family friendly menu items like burgers and hot dogs, along with fried seafood. Not sure what it's like in other seasons, but it's on the way to the Acadian Village, which is a terrific historic site open in summer. read more

Every time I'm in town I have to come here. The first time here (every time) I have to get the pizza burger with fries. I have been getting this since I was a little kid coming here with my parents on vacation! The place may have changed hands of ownership but they kept the same delicious recipes!!! Kudos! The situation is a walk up window to order and they call your number when your food is ready. You are welcomed to sit wherever you like. There is outdoor seating right in front of the restaurant and there is a small room on the side with picnic like tables that sit up to 4 ppl although the tables are close enough together that if there are 8 you feel like you are all at the same table! Coming to Van Buren I was confused (and a little concerned) that there was ONE recommended food place in town- Tasty Food. Not only is it pretty much the only fast food spot around- it's a damn good one!! Let's get right to it: the menu is like 40+ options deep and you can get anything from a salad to a burger to fried clams to THE BEST POUTINE I've ever had!!! Not to mention dessert...this place is like Dairy Queen on Canadian crack. For real. Even though the line was usually a couple people deep when we'd get there (especially at like 11am, that seemed the be the busiest time we had gone), the food always comes out fast and hot. We had 3 people ordering and we never waited more that 7 minutes for our food, even with a line of people ahead of us. The staff are genuinely kind, small-town people. They remembered the person I was there with who hadn't been back "home" in almost 10 years! I noticed that a few of the staff members even spoke French to some of the customers- a valuable trait to have being right on the border. Tasty Food is not an indoor establishment- there are 2 walk-up windows in the front of the building and one drive through window on the side. There are a few picnic tables to sit at out front/on the side of the building. There is even a large chess game, a small playhouse, and other little toys near the side tables. There was a screened in side patio with some seating as well, but it looked like it would only shield from rain and not from worse weather (I could be wrong, though!) Overall, despite Tasty Food being the only food option in the area, it's a great option. Not always the healthiest, but it tastes amazing and the service is even better! read more

I haven't been here in over 10 years so my expectation was based on a long ago memory. With that said... Red hot dog-It's a hot dog. It's red. It's delicious!! Grilled chicken sandwich-That chicken never even walked past a grill let alone actually sit on a grill. It tasted like a piece of bland frozen chicken breast that had been thawed and microwaved. It was served on a bun with a piece of wilted iceberg lettuce and mayo. The sandwich was very blah looking. No color, no texture. Onion rings-These are like the ones I buy at my local grocery store. 5:00 PM on a Saturday. You order outside. They give you a buzzer to notify you when your order is ready at the pick up window. I ordered a small fry and a Reese's Pieces swirl (similar to DQ flurry). It only took a couple of minutes for the buzzer to go off. I ate outside near my bike, but they have a variety of outdoor tables, an indoor section, and a drive through. The ice cream was good, but the candy had been crushed into little bits. I prefer Reese's Pieces whole, but I assume any swirl candy gets the same crushing treatment. The fries. Oh the fries. Definitely in the top 3 fries in the county. A good balance of crispy outside and potato inside. You get them with a packet of salt on the side. I left mine unsalted and wished I had ordered a medium. The place hasn't changed since I've been going there (mid 90s), other than the occasional menu adjustment. Great Food! Consistent from visit to visit! My personal favorites there are their lobster rolls, scallop rolls, clam rolls and pizza burgers. They make the best pizza burger in the area! They are similar to Dairy Queen with their softserve ice cream, floats, sundays, banana splits and so on. They also have 24 flavors of hard ice cream with unusual flavors as well. Like Sonic in the south, the place is retro styled as a drive-in restaurant, but Tastee Food is the real deal - not a modern reproduction! Unlike Sonic though... here you get out of your car to place the order! You can eat at a table outside, in a dining room inside, in your car or take your food home. It is a family owned operation, but they are automated like the big boys! If you order a hot item, the minute your order is received, it shows up on the cook's console, and they begin cooking right away. If you call in your order, they typically tell you it will be ready in 8 minutes. And it will usually be ready within a minute of the estimated time. Fast food, and really... better than that Mac place! Their menu is 4 pages of text long... with variations of burgers, hot dogs, various fish/seafood rolls, fried chicken (nuggets, fingers, sandwiches, pieces) as well as many items available as side orders. You can get a pint of clams, scallops, shrimp, fries or onion rings, for example. Unlike the fast food places, they have entrees more often found in restaurants, such as club sandwiches, BLT's, hot chicken plates and hot hamburger plates. Their poutines are extraordinary, but they only have plain or Royal Poutines. Most of the hot menu consists of items that are grilled or fried. So don't expect to find baked stuffed haddock on the menu! Their french fries are incredibly good! And that works out great, because you won't find baked potatoes or rice on the menu. If you're passing through town, and the slightest bit hungry, you should be able to find something on the menu to address most of your cravings! And stopping here will not delay your trip or plans any more than any fast food restaurant will! I highly recommend the Tastee Food! read more

Lacked flavor, parts of shredded lettuce was brown, half slice of cheese per Patty, and a scant bit of ketchup, asked where refills for Coke machine was and they told me to return to the side window; then when I returned they wanted to charge me a $1.57 after already filling the initial drink mostly with ice. The double cheeseburger with fries and coke and a side of poutin fries was already over $15. ARE YOU KIDDING ME! Old lettuce, mostly filled coke with ice and overpriced food and you guys have the nerve to want to charge me $1.57 for a coke refill. I am taking my biz elsewhere. This is the kind of place you drive past without thinking they have much to offer. Wrong assumption. This place has friendly service, good food, and clean restrooms. I didn't know much about lobster rolls until I arrived in Maine. So far I've had three lobster rolls from various places and this place, although unassuming, has the best lobster roll. Tasty Food's lobster rolls are light on the mayo with a bun that doesn't oil your fingertips with too much butter. We sat outside and the manager came out to ask about our food. He genuinely cared about his menu and was happy to hear that all was well. They have desserts that bring back memories: banana splits, soft serve ice cream, sundaes. The women's restroom in back is very clean, which affirms that the management really thinks through all of what it takes to run a good dining establishment. read more
