Arguably the best tanning salon in the entire San Francisco Bay Area. I signed up for their "Medium Pressure" Stand Up Unit after not having a tan in almost 6 months. Got the desired effect I was looking for. Burnt like I went to the Beach. This bed puts to shame any high pressure bed I'd ever used before. No contracts or month to month commitments. Which is huge. No High Pressure sales. I brought $60 cash for a bottle of lotion. The lady only charged me $20. I've seen the same bottle she sold me as high as $80 at other salons. They have complimentary eye goggles. Pretty much everywhere else you go will nickel and dime you to death for those. Every time I've gone, there's been zero wait time or any lines. She also lets me use the lay down bed for the price of the stand up. Which I needed today after a 12 hour work day. Literally nodded off and caught myself snoring. They got a relaxed, chill, homey vibe. You feel like you're at a cafe. Very nice staff. Nice ambience and decorations. The first tan was worth the price I paid for the month alone. read more

*new ownership - her name is Lynn and she is wonderful* (not that Ryan wasn't cool) I tan to get a base for big vacays or special occasions so im not sure exactly when the transition happened but i got the impression it was fairly recent. Ryan and doggo Tyson are no longer around but Lynn who is I believe new owner is a delight - pretty, chill calm vibe, knowledgeable, and she has the place very clean like spotless.. beds and everything else! Fun to talk to as well, she set up a lotions counter and is hopefully going to be working with a masseuse soon yay! Feel good about this one, highly recommend coming here for base tans esp if you'll be traveling closer to the equator (don't wanna burn on day 1, been there!), I'm Italian and outdoors a lot when it's not freezing, but even the cold foggy local weather gets to me by January and I need to build up my sun exposure a bit before traveling to sunny places/to hold me over =) also I've been getting adult acne here and there which sucks and having a few sessions every once in a while helps clear up my skin as well... super weird but works for me, clearing up my Xmas chocolate breakout quickly in time for vacay! read more

I have been to the Tan Line multiple times throughout the last few years, usually as I plan for vacations to warm climates. The Tan Line has several options designed for all price-points and skin-types. The Tan Line also has different pressure options from low to high and they recently added red light therapy machines. I usually purchase the unlimited one-month, high pressure machine access for about $100 and it's been absolutely perfect for me. All of these details add up to a great establishment with great advice and expertise that get you to your goals. So I can't report badly about the tanning services generally. They have strong beds that get you dark fast and for a reasonable price. I waited a long time to write this though because I felt like there was one owner and didn't want him to clock who this was. His dog, some small bulldog-looking thing, bit me when I tried to pet him. The person working the front desk was out getting a coffee when it happened, and it was only after the whole moment with the animal that I saw these signs in the store that said not to touch the dog. Listen if you have an aggressive pet and own a business where said pet roams, the animal should really not be allowed to leave its pen like ever. The dog was sitting casually in the waiting area when this happened. And I am leaving this review instead of telling the owner directly because there really is no remedy past an apology or some lawsuit I've no interest in bringing. But it really should not have happened in the first place. Hopefully your experience is better than mine. If you avoid the dog, I really enjoyed the service here otherwise and loved the trek out to Pacifica generally. read more

Been to the Tan Line a few years back & thought it was great but since I've returned I'm continually overwhelmed by this place! Each time I come in my expectations are exceeded .... I mean my "package" literally includes the total package! Where else can you go where you come out not only looking better but feeling better too? So clean, nice touches on decor, beds work well, but the vibe just makes my day! I'm new to the red light therapy & I'm ever so grateful it was recommended to me upon my return! I think my package also includes something truly exceptional! Lynn (I believe the new owner) is one of a kind! The owner is a nice guy from Santa Cruz. It's a decent place to tan in Pacifica. Many locals come here. You get what you pay for. Be cautious since they just got new bulbs. They will BURN you if you stay in for too long. OUCH! The part I like about this place is that you are able to share your tanning packages with your friends. The atmosphere is clean and welcoming and you always come out feeling amazing and tan which hello is the goal am I right?! If you are serious about tanning, this is the place for you. It may not be the most luxurious tanning salon but I tan to well, tan. Not to admire the decor. That being said, the owner is awesome, the staff are helpful if you ask questions and they have great specials on packages. It is the cheapest tan you'll find in this area (i've looked). Though this place looks a little rough along the edges, it is VERY reasonably priced and is extremely clean. I moved to Pacifica from Sacramento, where tanning was WAAAY less expensive but as far as salons go, out in this area, no other beats Tan Line. The staff is friendly and they always do their best to answer any and all questions and to accommodate any and all needs. I previously worked at a tanning salon and do not need a great deal of direction but these girls are definitely here to help! They are not sales crazy and aren't in the business of forcing anything on you. With my love for the tanning industry and the awesome Customer Service, at this location, I would even love to work here and be a part of it all. If you're going in for the first time, ask the employees which bed has the weakest bulbs, and go in there for a day or two, then work your way up to the stronger bulbs. Usually, bed 1 is the weakest, then 2, 3... etc. The employees are usually nice, but the shop is a little dirty looking. I'm not too worried about it, and if you are worried about a dirty tanning bed, just ask them to re-spray & wipe down the bed you're going in, they shouldn't have a problem! Once i stopped by right around the time they opened but no one was there yet, so i called and left a message. I got a call back within 20 minutes letting me know that they were running a little late, and that they apologized for the inconvienence and would give me a free tan. That's good customer servie! This place has good prices, and i wouldn't pay more than i pay here to get skin cancer, so it works out. Overall, thumbs up. read more

Okay, So I bought a tanning package here today. Now although its not as luxurious a 'spa' as a salon I recently was tanning at... Here are the things it has that the other didn't. If you live in Manor area vs. Vallemar or Linda Mar area, this salon makes sense. The money I will save on driving over there in gas makes up for this alone. Bulbs that actually tan. I was going for 15 minutes in a bed recently at a previous salon. I went in a level 1 today for 11 minutes and my husband said he immediately noticed that I had more of a tan than any of the other times, and I was going for 15 minutes previously. Now these bulbs are not in the 'nicest' looking beds.. or even nicest looking room for that matter... but considering for the time that you are actually in the bed you are wearing tiny goggles (provided during your use complimentary of the Salon) Theres no reason to be looking around at the room. Customer service. Customer service is key for any business to be successful. From the moment I walked in I was welcomed, given recommendations, treated with respect and thoughtful gestures were made to accomadate me during my visit to this establishment. Like putting my choice station on their special radio in the bedroom and providing a damp washcloth and goggles. Price. Right now they have coupons on their online website, they have 3 levels of beds at reasonable prices, and if you buy a 1 month package for one month, the following month goes down by to $44.00 from $59.00... All prices are clearly subject to change but this is an example of what kind of incentives this business is offering you. Referral cards for friends. A substantial variety of lotions (I didn't check prices on these, but you can always go in and check it out.) Heres the bottom line. I think the "Tan Line" Is a fitting name for this place because the bottom line is you are coming here for what? A great tan. No frills, just the bottom line. Also, if need be, you can put your package on hold if you have to go out of town sometime during your unlimited package. That is one of the reasons I decided to pick this place. A main reason, they want you to have a great experience. All though this isn't some fancy shmancy salon, the business seems to be booming for this little place.. I bought a groupon deal here that was $25 unlimited for one month. I was going on vacation and wanted to build up a base tan. I have never used tanning beds before so I thought I would try it. On my first day I asked the girl how long I should tan for, mostly because I'm pastey white....and she said 6-8 minutes. So I went in for 7 minutes and came out burnt, it didn't feel like I was burning but it definitely happened. I had also asked about tanning lotion advise, and she didn't seem to know much about the products at all. Her advise was not good. But all the other staff members were great. After my first encounter it got better. The place isn't super nice but it gets the job done for the price. The main reason I stopped going was because I kept getting rashes on my elbows and back from the beds. My skin is sensitive, so it must have been what they were using to clean the beds, especially since those were the only exposed parts of my body that were touching the bed. Overall: Not bad for the price. But if you are a newbie do your research so you don't get burned. And if you have sensitive skin I would suggest a standing bed vs laying down because of what they use to clean the beds. read more

I bought some tanning sessions about 3 years ago and it should of been good for a years worth, based on the amount of sessions I have per month. I decided to come back today, since I have a trip to go to in 2 weeks. The new owner Ryan wasn't able to find my previous information due to their system update. He took care of me and gave me a fair deal to compensate for the inconvenience. The place is updated and current, compared to the last time I visited. I went in for a spray tan - a last minute decision so I would not be white on my vacation. I live in Pacifica and thought it would be good to try a new place that was local. I've spray tanned before both in Pacifica and in SF so I know what to expect. I called and a man took my reservation and was super nice. Upon my arrival, the same man who took my reservation was there and again was very nice to me. A young girl came in as I was checking in and he told her that he needed to show her how to use the spray machine. I immediately got a little worried thinking this was her first time and on ME! They took me in the back which was a utility room with machines and a wonky set-up to do the spray tan. The girl, who was very sweet, told me it's not pretty but it works. I'm easy going so figured it's fine, as long as I get a good service I didn't mind the shady looking surroundings. I will say though it's a terrible set up, shady situation and was a little worried immediately. First she gave me disposable panties and top if I wanted - which I happily took. What followed was nothing short of a disaster. She started and told me that she wasn't used to using this gun. Then as she sprayed, she was having a hard time with the gun and had to refill it! As she sprayed she would stop and blot my skin with a towel - I've never had someone do that - doesn't that make it worse??? Then when she ran out of liquid the for the 3rd time, she couldn't find the right refill tanning liquid and was opening up all of these different areas in the utility room. Then she dropped the can attached to the gun - and the tan liquid went everywhere! Huge amounts of liquid were on the floor, around me and on her! She tried to keep a good attitude, kept apologizing and tried to continue. At that point it was useless for me to stay - I looked down and the tan was not looking good despite her best efforts. I told her that was enough and I had to leave -- all of this took over 30 minutes. Usually it takes 10 minutes at other professional places - over 30 minutes is too long. When I changed back into my clothes, the disposable underwear and top were not appropriate as the liquid went right through and I had these crazy patches of tanning spray in what appeared to be a bad polka dot pattern. Yikes! I walked to the front and told the owner/manager guy that the tan was terrible. He was super nice and refunded my money, gave me a pass for a free tan in the future and apologized. I went straight home and took a shower with lemon juice to get it all off - in no way did I leave any traces of that bad tan on me. Afterwards I asked around to professionals here in Pacifica that are in the area of salon owners and other tanning establishments and I got the same response from all of them which was "they are still in business? I thought they were long gone, they were like that years ago too." So it sounds like they have had a bad rap for a while - so I'm shocked to see any good ratings about them here. While I definitely will say they were nice and apologetic, they really need to rethink their business plan in doing spray tans at all. They are simply not set up for it and the young girl who sprayed me was very sweet but they need to give her proper training - and never let her use a new spray gun for the first time on a customer! Their customer service was good -- I will give them that....but I will never go back there nor will I ever recommend them to anyone. read more

I really love this place. I am a bit partial because it's across the street from my apartment, but the prices aren't bad in comparison to other places, and there is a great yelp deal. garbage!! garbage!! garbage!! -huge holes/cracks in the walls - broken blinds (leading to the sidewalk)!! -the manager is a total creep!!! -the beds are greasy and sweaty and smell like b.o.!!! i got a certificate as a gift for 3 tans. i had to mention 4 times to make a note for cashier to see my i.d. cause someone was using my tans, but when i went to use my 2nd of 3 tans the guy tells me they were all used up. apparently his book says i went twice last week when i haven't been in 2 months!! yeah, i'll admit its cheap, but not enough to see a video of myself tanning naked on the internet! go to house of sun in back of the valley, its way worth the extra 10 min. drive!!!!!!! read more
