Went in here for a spray tan with my best friend, price stated on the website was significantly lower than anything they offered which we asked the front desk worker about and she immediately got snippy. She then proceeded to give my best friend a door that didn't lock even though there was MANY other open rooms, after being told she told my best friend to just put a stool in front of the door. She also told us to not rub in the barrier cream which left us splotchy. Only real reason I'm writing this is because both of us work in customer service and have never even heard a costumer be talked the way we were. Had an amazing first spray tan experience here at Tan Bella. I called the morning of and was able to make a same day appointment at 4pm. The lady at the counter was super helpful in describing the difference between spray tan and UV tanning to me as well as helping me pick my color and walk through the entire process. The entire spray tan took less than an hour, everything was super clean. I got the Buy One Get One deal of $50 for 2 spray tans so I will defiantly be coming back for my 2nd one! read more

When you get there they say "oh no, dark spray is $50 per session and if you want extended and primer that's another $10-$20" Completely unacceptable that they list $20 er session noting "All UV, Spray and Red light." Incredibly disappointed at the difficulty I had in making an appointment at Tan Bella today. When I made the effort (parking is not easy) to physically come into the Market Street location -- to check out the operation, I was told all systems were down. Fine, I then waited a few hours, and called that same location from home (no on line scheduling!) to make an appointment. I was put into the "queue", after speaking to a real person, for another 5+ minute for a "manager" bc only the manager could take "new clients". Fine (sorta), rather than getting the "manager", I then got the same receptionist back. She proceeded to tell me that they have 150 customers today; they are the "ONLY" tanning salon in the City (not true, and I told her); and, it might be best if I call their King Street location which has less traffic. I told the receptionist how very frustrated I was at this point -- and that either her employer was not hiring enough employees to handle the traffic, or she was not getting the instruction she needed to handle prospective new clients better. Fine (less sorta), again. I then call the King Street location, and the same receptionist (!) answers the different phone number for that location. At this point, she launches into how Tan Bella is overwhelmed and, in a nutshell, they don't tolerate prospective new customers becoming frustrated with them (she clearly recognized my voice, as I did hers). A truly disappointing situation. I do hope that this business gets its act together, as it seemed nice enough when I physically visited the reception area. The location (except for parking challenges) is great -- my neighborhood. Who doesn't want to get a decent (hopefully) spray tan in their own neighborhood? Obviously, I will explore other options for a tanning salon that can handle its prospective new customers in a more professional way. I do wish this operation the best of luck. I have never been in the business of giving a less than stellar review, but ........ this situation is what it is. I can only speak to, sadly, what I experienced. read more

Please update your website! You are one of the only tanning salons in the city that offers bed tanning and not just spray. I checked both yelp and your website to make sure you were open and it says your Market street location is open Mondays until 8pm. I wanted to be sure before I drive across town that you were in fact open since most Yelp pages are rarely accurate these days and got an answering service that said they were closed due to staffing and to please call the SF location on Market. Assuming this was referring to the other location in the city I decided to make the trek. I arrived to find that the Market street location was in fact closed... SUPER friendly staff and an incredible selection of tanning beds. They always answer their phone (you must book over the phone) and it's SO EASY. I love the vibe of this place. The tans are quick and efficient. In 6-10 minutes it's like you spent a day in the sun (and didn't burn!). :) Parking is surprisingly easy - I never had any issue parking just around the corner. Somehow there's always street parking available even though this part of the Castro is so busy. I love tucking away into my little tanning cocoon with loud music (that you can select) and zone out for a little bit and get a tan in the process. This establishment is Bait and Switch at its finest. My husband signed up for a monthly unlimited tanning package after being told that I, as his spouse, could also be listed on/use the account on days he didn't go. That perk was why he did an unlimited monthly package in the first place. They even placed my name ON the account when he signed up. Last week, I had him go in and double check what I would need to do to use the account and the attendant working there confirmed FOR A SECOND TIME that I just needed to come in, give his name, and then give my name, because my name was already listed on the account. But when I tried to go in, the manager announced that they do not allow a spouse to use the account--despite the fact that, as it turns out, SHE was the very one to set up the joint account WITH MY NAME ON IT. This also seemed to be news to the other people working there who were standing there with a look of surprise. Then she tried to sign me for a separate account. When my husband got there to cancel the membership, the manager IMMEDIATELY knew why he was there and hemmed and hawed about how she must have been talking about something else when she signed him up - but couldn't quite explain why she listed my name on the account and told him I could use it. Nor could she explain why, when we checked last week, we were told the process by which I could use it. Very friendly, knowledgeable and explained everything from the packages offered, the commitment I was making, to a good refresher on using the bed, because it's been almost 20 years since I've tanned. Dear "Customer Service", I apologize. Yes, I was upset. I paid $287 for a series of tannings, and after two days and 5 phone calls trying to book an appointment went unanswered, and with no return phone calls, I dared to write an email to your "customer service " department. When I received an automated response saying it would be 5 to 7 days for you to get back to me I got pissed off, and emailed you back that somebody needs to get off their ass and take care of your customers. At no time did I have an "abusive" in person conversation with your employees. I am a retired CEO and I recognize your problem stems from the attitude of your management, not your just hired, untrained staff. Your response has been to refuse service and as yet, I have not had my $287 refunded. Yes. I am disgusted. Perhaps you need to climb down off your soap box and realize that 5 out of the last 6 reviews on Yelp have been 1 star, "NOT GOOD" ratings! read more

The folks who work here are always friendly no matter who is working. The beds are clean and well maintained. Rarely do I have to wait for my appointment. My one gripe is I wish the misting beds were fully stocked with the misting spray solution. On several occasions when I've used those beds specifically they've either been out of solution or spray out a miniscule amount. read more

I have been going to tanbella for a couple years now. I am going through my second package. last week I slipped and fell hard on the floor getting out of the spray tan booth. when I realized I was falling I tried to grab onto something to stop but there was only a weak ladder decoration which also landed on me. I hurt myself pretty bad. went to front desk after peeling myself off floor and told them. I suggested hey install a safety grip but the girl said they were thinking of putting towels out. there were three employees behind the desk and no one asked if I was ok. a week later I am REALLY hurting and struggling to get on and off my bed. I'm going to ask for the remainder of my package be compensated at least since I am afraid to put myself in that position again! read more
