WOULD NOT RECOMMEND
This was my first experience of sun-beds & due to the horrors of this place my last experience.
I opted for the sun angel, which at this franchise was £38 for 20minutes as opposed to the islington price of £25. On arrival this place was filthy. The one member of staff was friendly, however, very confusing in her directions of what to do. She asked me if my skin was sensitive to which I replied yes, then on showing me what to do she scanned both dark areas of my arm. Unknown to me at the time, you are meant to scan one dark and one light side. She then proceeded to say that she would see me in three minutes which confused me as I had paid for a 20 minute session.
After 5 minutes my cheeks and nose began to burn so I covered them with my hands to avoid further damage. After 8 minutes it became unbearable and so I pressed the stop button, which informed me that by holding it down the session would be "interrupted" (not terminated).
I poked my head out to tell her there was something wrong, yet was unable to get her attention for exactly 4 minutes as she was chatting to a client. She then came in and said that she must have scanned it too high, gave me some moisturiser and said that I could get back in and she'd re-set the timer to 8 minutes.
After a few minutes she returned to say that once opened you are unable to reset the timer to anything less than 20 minutes, I said I was happy to press cancel when the timer hit 12 minutes, however, her manager was unhappy to do so. She was happy to send me away on this note.
After complaint from me for paying £38 for 8 minutes and getting burnt due to staff negligence, her manager on the phone said that I could use the standing machine for exactly 8 minutes the following day, which is a fraction of the price, and poor results or pay and additional £15 to use the sun angel again. I took the 8 minutes as I didn't want to run the risk of my cheeks and nose peeling any further, nor as a student did I want to spend extra money.
I am absolutely furious with this experience. Following the standing machine with absolutely no effect, the lady told me that I would need to purchase more sessions right away.
I was not aware that on opening the sunbed that I would not be able to continue the session. But more importantly, had I not opened the sunbed and received bad burns to my face, tan shop would have made themselves liable for a law suit.
