Summary: wonderful experience for the first tattoo, talented artist, adorable style, cozy studio with free movies to watch while getting the work done; will come back. I had the pleasure of getting my first tattoo done by Vanessa, the talented owner of The Tattoo Gemologist, and I must say it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. I initially found her through Instagram and was impressed with her style, which shared similar vibe with the artist in foreign country I had originally wanted to work with but was not able to due to schedule conflict. Vanessa was more than willing to take on the challenge of creating the design in her own unique style (custom crayons book style). On the day of the tattoo session, Vanessa was incredibly kind and patient, walking me through the entire process and making me feel at ease. She even offered breaks if needed, which was a thoughtful gesture I hadn't expected. The tattooing process turned out to be almost painless, contrary to my initial apprehensions. Vanessa acknowledged that pain tolerance varies among individuals, which made me feel more comfortable throughout the session. The color choices Vanessa made for the tattoo were spot-on, as the colors complemented each other perfectly. We also discovered that yellow didn't show up well on my skin during the process, and she shared this valuable information with me, which I'll keep in mind for future tattoos. I followed Vanessa's aftercare instructions diligently during the healing process, but some areas of the tattoo did fade after the flaking off stage. Fortunately, Vanessa assured me that touch-ups are normal and offered to do one for me. I did my research online and confirmed that this is indeed a regular part of the tattoo healing process, which gave me peace of mind. I am extremely satisfied with the experience and the tattoo itself. Though it is an hour drive for me, it is totally worth it. Yesterday I got one of my dream tattoos. Vanessa was very nice and easy to talk to. She made it super easy to make an appointment. I have about ten tattoos and almost every other tattoo artist I've gone to have been very heavy handed. Not Vanessa, she made sure I was comfortable and if I needed to take a break that I could. They have couches and plenty of standing room, so it didn't feel crowded at all. They had about four artists working, so the line was moving steadily.
