I started work at the tax defenders with another employee on 10/22/18. We were both CPAs, although I was only a registered CPA. This other employee was told it wasn't working out with him at the tax defenders the first week and was no longer employed full-time with the company. On 11/30/18 the owner told me it was no longer working out with me being employed full-time with the company and that he would call me later to talk about offering me side work. He hasn't called me to offer any side work. So I was effectively let-go. This all happened in under 1.5 months. I don't feel this behavior was appropriate. Additionally, before I started work at the tax defenders I performed a fair amount of work for which I was not compensated including research and talking with a client, but did it out of goodwill. Furthermore, this other CPA and I were the only CPAs at the tax defenders at the time (that I know of). Although one person there is working on his work experience requirement to obtain his CPA license. read more

Please do yourself a favor and don't look any further than The Tax Defenders! I was frantic after the IRS sent me some very scary paperwork in the mail! I was FRANTIC! I scrolled through the Chicago options online and because of the testimonials, I went with them and now I'm proud that I'm get to add my testimonial! They were extremely professional, calming and reassuring in my desperate time of need. I think it's almost necessary to have a "middle man" dealing with the IRS on your behalf because it not only relieves stress, but I seriously think the IRS treats you differently because you have a professional on your side. SERIOUSLY! My case took over a year to settle and they definitely settled in my favor, so thanks to Kelly and my incredibly tenacious attorney, Jillian, who was there for me every step of the way, and then some! I hired this company to help with my state and federal back taxes. They charged me $700 to do an investigation which took several months for him to get back with me I sent emails asking for an update and never heard anything back. I finally received a call from a very rude gentlemen telling me they looked into my taxes and my state taxes due was about 20,000 and that they could set up a payment plan for an additional $2500 but they may be able to get there state to settle on $5000 less so $15,000. So I asked the gentleman about my federal taxes he said I didn't hire them for my federal taxes I only heard them to look into my state taxes. I have emails verifying that I did ask about my state and federal back taxes. So I asked him you think I paid y'all $700 just to look into my state back taxes and you're going to charge me $2500 to set up a payment plan that I could set up for myself for free but you didn't look into my federal taxes which would be the ones I need the most help with. I didn't get the feeling that this company was looking to help me at all but what I did get is that they're all about money. I really don't even understand why they would even think I only wanted help with my state taxes $700 for you to look into something and I could do myself and then another 2500 to set up a payment plan something that's free for me to do myself. He called and said he had a few options but that was only option he gave me.
