The website answers any and all questions about your cut, color, or wax in advance, with a demystifying FAQ page and a full before and after care list. My service was ~30 minutes long and I felt totally comfortable for the duration. Nitty Gritty goes out of their way to ensure their salon is an LGBTQ+ safe space - there's specific information on waxing if you're transitioning, an ask for pronouns at the time of registration, and a truly welcoming atmosphere for all. This alone will keep me coming back and supporting, but the fact that the service is so top notch is a nice added bonus. The reviews don't lie, Nitty Gritty is the best. Yes waxing is painful, but this seemed like the goal was to get me in and out in 10 minutes or less. It seemed like there was no consideration for my comfort. On top of that, I left every waxing with bruises (which can happen if you're not hydrated) but also burns and raw skin patches that took a long time to heal fully. Any complaints I made, I was told to purchase something from their extensive line of pre and post care ointments and products, and that the wax was kept at a regulated temperatures. I just think customer care wasn't prioritized and it wasn't a great experience.

Well ladies and gentlemen (hey guys, no need to feel ashamed), Katrena provides just that. The salon is set up like a house still, and each cosmetologist has their own bedroom. Katrena has a single chair for pedicures and a single table for manicures. Although my one qualm would be that it's not really a spa pedicure as it is a soak in a tub. No massage chair and no jets in the tub, it's lined with a plastic container (very hygienic, and I always forget to use the chair controls anyway). Waxing is done in a separate room in the back. She uses a wax for sensitive skin so it is not as harsh as most honey wax. $10 for brows, $3 for upper lip (a total steal!) and $5 for chin! So for a full face wax you are looking at under $20. Most places charge over $30 and wax your mustache in front of the whole salon, can we say awkward? She did an amazing job and I walked away feeling pampered. Summary: 1 chair, private hygienic inexpensive
