My first Brazilian. ME was great and hysterically funny! I was indeed done in about 10 minutes after I got the courage to walk in the door. I'll be back in the future. And I returned the next day for a pedicure. Mark gave me a $10 discount towards a pedicure when I asked him the price for one. I hadn't even asked for a discount! Kelly was great and paid extra attention to my heels which are in horrible shape! I'll be back again. For the first few months I ever got a Brazilian wax, I went here. They even have a sign on the front of the building that says "Home of the Brazilian Wax," so I figured it was a good idea. And it was.... the first couple of times. My first time, I was waxed by Mary Elizabeth (the M.E. of the name), and she was amazing. She was quick, thorough, she didn't make me feel awkward, she explained the process beforehand, and she kept me chatting the entire time she was waxing, so I didn't notice the pain that much. "Getting a brazilian isn't SO bad," I thought. After a couple of times (I was always just a walk-in), I came in on a day when Mary Elizabeth wasn't there, and I was waxed by another girl. BAD IDEA. She seemed inexperienced, she couldn't hold a conversation, she didn't work as fast, and when I said it hurt, she actually giggled and just said it'd be fine. I felt like an idiot - I had just put my most sensitive area in the hands of an immature, incompetent child. Needless to say, the waxing at Mark & M.E. is awesome, and I miss it (I have since moved away from Rochester), but only if it's done my M.E. herself. I moved to Rochester 10 years ago from Los Angeles. I tend to take a while to commit to an aesthetician... need to find someone I trust, who'll do a great job... Someone who'll speak their mind, but listen to my needs. I came to Mark & ME to give them a try after hearing several recommendations over the first few months... boy, do I wish I would have come here right off the bat. I have been committed to getting all my waxing services at Mark & ME over the 9 years that I lived there. I don't know why I never thought of leaving a review for the wonderful Mary Elizabeth on Yelp before. I follow her hilarious humor on the internet, I fully recommend their salon to anyone who's looking for a place to go. But it didn't strike me until I had to move out of Rochester that I'll probably judge all other waxing services for the rest of my life using ME and her phenomenal job as the standard of comparison. 10-minute Brazilian.. she's not kidding. And while she's doing that, she'll make you laugh out loud, hear all your recent life gossip, and over the years, she'll become your therapist as well! =) And you'll cry, but not because of pain (I still have no clue how she makes it so painless compared to everywhere else I go).. but because you're laughing so hard. I moved to Rochester about 2 years ago but returned home (NYC) often enough where I could continue going to my regular girl there. Partially because I have been going for years, but also because it's cheaper ($50). I thought cost of living was cheaper here, why is waxing (and eyebrow threading, but I won't go down that horrid road) more expensive... but I digress, sorry, back on track. Eventually the time came when I needed to get waxed & couldn't make it home to I went to Mark & ME. M.E, is great. She made conversation, is very efficient and made me feel at ease. The only thing I don't like is she doesn't use hard wax, which is what I am used to and prefer as it doesn't stick to the skin. I was torn between 4 or 5 stars but went with 5 simply because of M.E.'s quick work and great personality. If I need a wax while I'm here I'll definitely return to Mark & M.E. Last time, I reviewed Mark n Me for their amazing wax services, but they also do amazing work with hair! (on your head). I just got my hair cut by Kristen, and she did an amazing job! Coming from LA, I used to get my hair cut by people who do hair for Hollywood movies and TV shows, and my hair cut today is just as good if not better! Compared to other salons, the cost is real deal, especially considering the quality. Everyone is so nice and welcoming, and I had a great time chatting with Kristen. I came here last week to get a wax and manicure. I've been here before and the wax was done by the owner which was fantastic. However, this day the owner wasn't there and my waxer was super nice, but it was SO PAINFUL and I developed bruises an hour or two afterwards. The process took a really long time too. My manicure was the worst part though. I wanted to get a gel manicure so that it would last at least 2 weeks. My nails chipped 2 days later. The manicurist was really bad at clipping nails -- she took a long time to clip them and also filed them terribly. After the nails were painted, I noticed she had missed filling in the sides of some of my nails. Also, she didn't cut any of the dead skin around my nails like nail salons usually do. She seemed very inexperienced and another lady was telling her how to get started. Lastly, she didn't file my nails the correct way--so the tips of my nails were really rough. To top it all off, the "manicurist" (I hesitate to call her a manicurist because she did not seem to know anything about doing nails) and the eyebrow specialist were talking poorly about their customers in front of me. I would not recommend going here unless you are getting a wax from the owner. read more

I've gotten MANY bikini waxes, and M.E. does the BEST ONES. I recently moved out of state and I think she's what I miss most. She is extremely quick (as advertised) and does a great, very complete job. She handles things in a very funny, upfront way (flip over!! I'm gunna wax your bum!) I usually feel so nervous and awkward, but she makes me feel better. 55$ price tag is standard. Ladies, this is not a treatment to skimp on! trust me. I hate to give this place one star, but the truth is if you ever get waxed outside of the Rochester area, you'll realize this is a one star place. The other non-five star reviews reflect my opinions below exactly. I got my first Brazilian wax here and came back because I didn't know any better. And while I'll fully admit that M.E. is entertaining during the wax (she even used what I said during my appointment once in her blog), the actual wax job is a botch. They do what they can here to save money. Granted, I admit this is reflected in their prices. But it's not worth the pain. And their priority is to wheel you in and out as fast as possible so that they can see as many customers as possible. Their priority is not for each individual to have a good experience. M.E. goes so fast with her Brazilian waxes, that my bikini area was constantly, visibly, painfully, and darkly BRUISED from where she would push down to apply the wax in a quick, hasty, and rough manner. The Brazilian wax was also not thorough. I always had residual hair down there. M.E. will fully admit this is because of how many customers they have to see. Sorry, but when I pay for a service, I want it to be done right. I'd rather pay more $$ and have it done correctly. It's cool that you get a free t-shirt if you refer someone. European Wax Center is the place to go. I don't think there's yet one in Rochester (they are in Buffalo). Until one opens up, I highly recommend going somewhere that uses HARD WAX. It is SO much less painful than ANY of the soft wax places I've used...even the nicest, most expensive ones in NYC. Once I tried hard wax, I never went back. I've tried soft wax and sugaring. I honestly don't even feel my Brazilian waxes anymore, and I've gone so religiously for about 7 years, that my hair doesn't even grow back much on top. When I used to get waxed here, I drove about 45 minutes to get here. One time, I called to make sure I could get an appointment with M.E. I was told yes. I showed up, and she was out of town??? I wouldn't have driven 45 minutes otherwise. I ended up seeing Kristen (who I actually liked wax-wise over M.E.), but come on, what kind of customer service is that? M.E. is ultimately the BEST in the business! I am a becoming a regular client of hers. I really didn't think that I would say that, but this morning when I was in the shower I thought "UGH, time to shave". I didn't have the patience for that this morning. On a whim, I dropped by to see if she would take a walk-in. Mark greeted me as soon as I stepped in the door and was more than happy to oblige me. He called M.E., on the intercom and told me to go right up. I have had bikini waxes years ago in other well known establishments in the area and have left with bruising and half of my skin gone, so I was a little hesitant to have it all removed. I am so glad that I found her! I can't say that it is painless, but it really isn't as bad as people say it is. Needless to say, I have not gone to the other places. M.E...she is kind of addicting. Once you get waxed by her, you want to keep going back. Someone complained that she just tells you to undress and doesn't leave the room. That is exactly what happens! Why does she need to leave the room? WTF! She is going to be touching your private areas and will ask you to put your body into positions you would never imagine, why should she leave the room? If you aren't comfortable having her there, then maybe you should re-think the idea of having a Brazilian... M.E. gets the job done quickly and efficiently. The environment is very professional, clean and relaxing. Her personality is what makes the visit so much fun. I would rather have 10 minutes of laughter than an hour of pain. Had my first Brazilian yesterday. The technician was very professional and I liked her. What I don't like 1. They walk you in a room and say take your pants off... But they don't leave the room they just stand there while you undress.. I would've much preferred to be left alone for a moment to undress and prepare. 2. I know waxing is supposed to be uncomfortable but a couple of the strips were unbearable pain... Like WAY WAY more than the other 10. Now a day later I see why. It leads into #3 3. on one side of my 'sensitive area' im missing actual skin in a spot about the size of a dime. On the other side and in a few other areas im black and blue. The bruising was immediate and on the top of my hoohaa I'm still in so much pain I don't want to put on pants. So with that being said I doubt I'll ever go back to Mark and ME, that's if I ever even try waxing again.... I had read the rave reviews on yelp, and couldn't wait to make an appointment for a wax. I had been in for a pedicure there before, and completely loved my service. I had heard ME is the best, so I specifically requested ME for my appointment. I showed up and was taken up to a wax room by a woman other than ME, which I thought was fine because I had assumed ME would meet me up there. I was wrong, ME decided not to take my appointment, and to give me to another employee without saying anything to me about it. I was nervous as it was my first wax, and this was kind of unsettling. Thankfully, the woman who did my wax was very friendly, and I cannot complain at all about her, other than the pain of the wax itself (which I realize is to be expected). The wax itself was EXCRUCIATINGLY painful... patches of my skin were ripped off and a few areas were slightly bloody/raw. Afterwards, I had discovered they use facial wax, instead of hard wax for this area. Afterwards I went to the cleaning station and went home. The price itself would be worth it, IF the hair had all been removed and I hadn't had any skin damage. Many strays were left behind, and the hairs that were in fact waxed off were not truly removed from the root, they were just "ripped off" at the base. I know this because many grew back within the first week. I was on vacation with beet red, damaged skin... YUCK. Also, I incurred the cost of an ob-gyn visit, because of the damage to the skin. My doctor said to NEVER EVER WAX HERE again because of their waxing style. Ultimately, I decided to call the salon and see what they had to say about all this before I reviewed them on Yelp. I am willing to let any business try to "make it right" before I write my opinion, just to make sure I'm reporting the full story. On the phone, ME said that she "was super busy that day and couldn't do my appointment".... That's fine but she could have definitely let me know that instead of ignoring my prior request. It is not my fault as the customer that you were overbooked. Additionally, she said "put hydrocortisone on it" the "it" being the damaged skin. RIGHT ON THE TUBE hydrocortisone says not to apply to broken skin (also confirmed by my doctor). Ultimately, I was looking for her as a business owner to rectify the situation, and all I was offered was another free wax. Why would anyone in their right mind go back, only to have their skin ripped apart and hair completely grow back in 1.5-2 weeks? Especially after my doctor had told me to never ever go back again. That is subpar customer service, but I at least gave them a shot. read more

I don't want to go somewhere where their accessory dog is hanging around especially if you have allergies. I felt awkward when I was asked 'you're a cheerleader or dancer aren't you? I have only utilized the brow waxing services, but they are extremely fast and I always have a pleasant time. On May 21, 2014 I spoke to the most wretched man alive. I was yelled at for missing an appointment that they had incorrectly recorded the time for. He argued with me about the time back and forth, told me I had spoken to him when I never had and was a total stubborn brute about the whole situation. I have NEVER been spoken to that way by any salon employee let alone OWNER. I will absolutely not go back and I will not allow anyone I know to visit that salon ever. For full disclosure, here are the specifics: On May 13 I called the salon and spoke to a pleasant woman who made appointments for my sister and myself for manicures, pedicures and an eyebrow wax. I also scheduled a Brazilian for my sister. All of these for noon on May 21. I realized as soon as I hung up that we already had an appointment with our personal trainer at 11 so I immediately called back and rescheduled for the same day (May 21) but for 1:30 instead, the woman on the phone was happy to oblige. Today (May 21) my sister called the salon at 10 am to let them know she wanted to cancel her manicure but all of the other services were still desired, specifically saying the appointment time was 1:30. The woman on the phone was polite and said it was fine. I was called by a woman from the salon at 12:40 alerting me that I had missed my 12:15 appointment and wanting to know if I would like to reschedule. I told her she was mistaken that my appointment was for 1:30. It sounded as if she were speaking to another person so I asked, "Is there a problem?" The owner of the salon, Mark, answered me and in an accusatory tone said, "You had an appointment at 12:15 for a Brazilian with Mary Elizabeth and you didn't show up". I told him, "I did not schedule a Brazilian appointment sir, my sister has one scheduled at 1:30" He very rudely said, "So your sister missed her appointment at 12:15 and wants to come in at 1:15 now". I repeated our original scheduled appointments to him and letting him know maybe there was some confusion because on the day I scheduled the appointments I originally said noon then called back to change it to 1:30. He then told me that he spoke to me earlier that day and I said I would be in at noon for a wax. I told him he was mistaken and must be thinking of another girl named Kate. He demanded that he must have spoken to my sister then. I told him my sister spoke to a woman only to cancel her manicure but keep everything else the same. He continued yelling about me or my sister missing our appointment and lecturing us about calling to reschedule so I told him, "Forget it, we're not coming in at all". I was left utterly shocked. The whole situation is incredibly bizarre. I am appalled at how this man conducted himself and horrified by the way he spoke to me. Mary Elizabeth must be carrying the team over these because this Mark character has absolute no sense of etiquette or customer service. On a happy note the day was salvaged! Jenny nails on Monroe Ave in Pittsford happily took us as a walk-in for manis and pedis as well as Brow Diva across the street. They were very welcoming of our walk-in appointments, even with a completely booked schedule! I'd been going to this salon now since 2009. Started out with a wax prior to my wedding, as it came highly recommended by an acquaintance. Always went to M.E. for my waxes. Always SUPER FAST. Lots of the "rips" as she likes to refer to them were painful of course but having only ever been there, I just figured that's how it's supposed to feel. Often I would have breakouts following due to ingrown hairs which would turn into pretty severe infected hair follicles (the opposite of sexy btw) which were not only ugly and embarrassing, but super painful. Was told it was essentially due to me having "freaking weird skin / pissed off pussy skin" I laughed it off for years. Now let me say this straight up; over the years if I had to go back through credit card statements and cash receipts I've probably spent (without exaggerating) close to $5K going to Mark & M.E. I've seen countless employees come and go through out the 7 years I'd been going and always discounted the turn over due to a demanding profession and a lack of work ethic honestly. Until recently.... At one point I was getting all of my beauty treatments there; waxing, pedicures, hair, eyelash extensions. Some days the total was $300... no joke. One time and one time only I spent $500 there in ONE DAY. I sang praises from rooftops for this place.... I feel like a fool.... The last time I had M.E. wax me, she burned me severely with the wax. To the point that I was prescribed a burn treatment ointment by my physician. After waiting a full day I called the salon, and even sent in photos via text message to them of my injuries. I was told that there, "must be something different in the new product" and I must have "had a bad reaction" I was given a $5 tube of "no drama momma" creme. I was told by my physician to absolutely NOT use that. Later it was revealed that she confessed to another in the salon that "Holy Shit I burned her" Now I'm a very forgiving person, had she said, "My gosh I am so sorry that happened it's completely my fault, let me make this right" I probably would have said, "no problem I wanted you to know this happened, I'm not concerned about the $$" So I gave it another go..... the next time I got waxed was by one of their other employees as ME herself was on vacation. This employee has since bragged about how fast she is. She was fast.... I'll give her that. BUT wax shouldn't hurt as it's smeared ONTO your skin... I made it through the service, left feeling assaulted and 2 days later when my skin finally started to show it's real injury; discovered that not only did she rip a horrendous amount of my skin off, she broke nearly all of the hair at the skin, caused significant inflammation and now 6 weeks later I've been on antibiotics due to one of "the worst cases of folliculitis my physician has ever seen" I messaged the young lady directly; giving her the heads up about her service. Not looking for any compensation because at this point; I'm all done with that and won't be going back. Here's the response I got (copied and pasted): "I appreciate your advice and im sorry you didnt like ur wax but i wax many people who will only come to me and enjoy the job i do. U cant Make everyone happy. I have every right to be proud of my accomplishments no matter what form that comes in u know nothing of my journey and what it took me to get here. Again thank u for ur honesty but i get ingrowns and short broken hairs from waxes ive gotten here too. It happens to people all the time. Im sorry it happened to you." So... long story short: If you want to be rushed in and out, treated like you are nothing more than a dollar bill, get a sub-par service, be injured / burned / scared / infected, get talked down to, listen to the owners bark at their employees, and then listen to how great they are at what they do... go for it.... I originally came here for an eyebrow and lip wax. I am very picky on who waxes my eyebrows because I do have them micro-bladed. Lexi did a great job! She made sure to take her time and not wax too much and asked me twice to take a look if I wanted more done. I thought I might as well get a Brazilian done since I was already there. I needed to find a new place to go since my usual woman I went to is no longer working. Lexi was professional and so quick!! She was detailed and even used tweezers for the stubborn hair. I feel terrible for anybody who goes here for their first Brazilian wax and thinks this is how they should be done. They brag about being "home of the 15 minute Brazilian," sorry, I'd rather have someone take the extra 15 minutes to correctly remove hair. They use strip wax instead of hard wax, which results in just ripping the hair, not pulling out the follicle. Yep, my "wax" lasted about 3 days instead of the usual 3-4 weeks. Now I had been to other salons in other cities so I knew this wasn't what I was used to, first timers, don't be fooled! Extremely rushed, extremely painful, all of this to maximize her profits by getting more appointments. Ladies, invest a full 1/2 hour-45 minutes for an appointment elsewhere that uses hard wax. Also, the owner writes a blog where she discusses observations about her clients. It's anonymous, but I just think it's unprofessional. Oh and P.S- I have a permanent scar from my visit here. This was my first experience with a brazilian. I had booked my first appt. and was happy with the results, when I came in for my second appt. I was told that the person I had booked with quit. I was like, "ok," and had my wax done with another esthetician, the waxing part was fine, but after she wanted to use tweezers to remove some strays, mind you these tweezers are not sterile nor do they appear to have been sterilized EVER. Fantastic experience from the moment I pulled in! I was greeted with a warm smile from Mark as I was parking my car (I didn't realize it was was him until I walked in). He was so friendly and inviting! I was a little early and he offered to get me in with someone else, but I wanted to wait for Mary Elizabeth, as this was my first time. She arrived within a few minutes and off we went to the upstairs. The whole salon was very nicely decorated and felt like a home. Everyone there was very friendly. I was obviously nervous, but M.E. has a wonderful, electric personality, that puts you at ease right away! She explains everything throughly, and talks to you throughout the process (and makes you laugh)! The pain and awkwardness were minimal, and the results were well worth it! If anyone is on the fence about getting a Brazilian, have no fear with Mark and M.E.! I will definitely be back! read more

ME is AMAZING. She makes you feel super comfortable prior to your waxing experience and then she gets it over with quickly. I have been twice to this salon and had a Brazilian with ME, and she has done an excellent job both times. I highly recommend this salon for the price, experience, and quality. read more

I have visited this salon on numerous occasions. As far as waxing, I thought M.E. did a fantastic job, she makes you to feel completely at ease. I did try some of the other technicians when she was out of town and wasn't as pleased. The facial that I had I didn't particularly care for. The facial room was on the third floor of the building, in a very small room with a slanted ceiling. The girl who did my facial was very friendly but definitely not experienced. I wouldn't return for a facial. read more
