This place is worth the hype! My friends and I went in to Temple Bar thinking we'd have 1 drink to say we've been there and then head to a less touristy pub. However, we ended up staying several hours because of how much fun it was! The live music was great, the people were nice, and the service was efficient. The bar was spacious with several rooms and a nice outside area to escape the crowds. If I return to Dublin I will definitely be going back to Temple Bar! read more

I respectfully went up to the door sober, I had just landed in Dublin an hour ago. I pulled out my I.D. Because I am clean shaven and offered my the bouncer my I.D. (I am 27 years old) the bouncer told me "No you can't come in, you've had enough to drink tonight lad". Absolutely ridiculous, he couldn't tell sober from drunk. Then proceeded to let a large group of well under 18 years of age in. Don't waste your time, this place is a filthy tourist trap and only accepts young women as part of their primary attraction. Spend your money elsewhere, trust me. Please, it may have been an amazing place 20 years ago, but now it is a horrid place that only young women inside past 9pm. read more

This place is historic/legendary - and for very good reason! The vibe was amazing - complete with standing room only and a live band! I cannot tell you how funny it was shoving my backpack and I into this bar flooded with people on a Saturday night, but during my time I met a Czech person, Brazilian person, Manchester person - it's just a melting pot of friendly people and was super fun, even when I wasn't particularly dressed for a night out! It seems like this place is always jam-packed no matter what time you go but I managed to find a seat at one the many bars inside. The most well known bar in Dublin, and from my understanding, one of the oldest, if not THE oldest, it is a fun atmosphere that is also LOUD, expect to shout here over the lively music and the patrons all having a pint. That being said, the people are very cordial (for the most part), and everything tastes fresh and delicious. The bathrooms are also quite clean, but be careful walking to them as the steps are sticky and tight. Perhaps that is for the best with all the drinking you will do here. Came here during October 2024 and they already had holiday decor! The vibe and atmosphere was amazing even on a weekday when I went on a Tuesday. There was live music. It was busy and crowded so it was hard to find seating. There is a QR code on the table where you can order food and drinks but the weird thing is that there aren't any table numbers for you to indicate which table for them to deliver to. Go during the day when it's near-empty to explore its decorations and quirks that make it such an iconic place. This way you'll also avoid the throngs of drunkards and pick-pockets. Even during off-peak times, you'll may find some live music and it's just nice to have lots of space to yourself. As a tourist, my experience at the temple bar was fun. I visited during a busy evening, it was really crowded but worth the struggle. My friend and I were able to grab beers and enjoy the live music. Everyone was enjoying the music, chatting and drinking beers. People looked so happy to be jam packed in this holiday wonderland bar. The photos are from our 2019 visit during the holidays. We landed in Dublin, checked in and, Because we're American, headed straight to then Temple bar District. We stopped for a couple drinks and the roast beef sandwich. Our bartender, IAN K was 10/10. Gave us a proper welcome, a proper pint, a proper whiskey, even traded in our leftover $$ from the UK. We laughed he and told us to feck off! When planning our tour to Ireland, every Top 10 had The Temple Bar and reasons why you must go there. It really is a fantastic place to go and be surrounded by lively crowds; IF you can get in. We did not spend much time inside on two occasions. We did get to sit outside for a couple of drinks; Irish Coffee for the girls and beers for the boys. So why 5 Stars if I couldn't even spend time inside. Well because The Temple Bar also gives you a lot of street entertainment in the crowds it attracts and the fact that there are plenty of other bars in the area. We found one of our favorite bars and meal around the corner because we just had to do our own bar crawl. It was the epicenter of our evening and I can't dock them for being popular. Again, seeing the Argentinian rugby team loudly chanting after too many beers or seeing the soon to be bride walking with the girls and her sash is a similar ordeal to Fremont Street in Las Vegas or Bourbon Street in New Orleans and the center for all this craziness; which we totally enjoyed, is The Temple Bar. Inside the bathrooms are available and the crew try's their best but with so many people coming in and out, I imagine you will have to wait like we did. What happened at this venue was shocking and completely unacceptable. The bouncers on the door in Temple Bar were violent, aggressive, and utterly unprofessional. A relative of mine, who was doing absolutely nothing untoward, was assaulted by door staff without justification. Instead of de-escalating a situation, they escalated it to violence, punching him and causing serious injuries. This is not "security" -- it is thuggery. No customer should ever fear being physically attacked simply for being present. Temple Bar already has a reputation, and experiences like this only confirm the worst of it. The actions of these bouncers show a total lack of training, accountability, and basic human decency. I would strongly warn anyone to stay well clear of this place if they value their safety. As the center piece to the temple bar area and a major tourist attraction, I was not expecting the best food only the best atmosphere and as it turned out, they both shined on this visit. My choice was the Ruben and the corned beef while not as good as mine, came in a close second with excellent, thinly sliced, tender, not salty and plenty of it. The bread was nicely toasted with fresh sauerkraut and pickles. The place was packed and the music was great, everyone having a good time joining in for the choruses with a few dancing a jig or two. If you are visiting Dublin for the first time, you have to pay a visit to The Temple Bar. It's an iconic landmark in the Temple Bar district of Dublin City Centre that has served pints, pours, and food since 1840. Visiting the thoroughfare requires going to this bar, venturing inside into one of the pub rooms or the outdoor patio. We have visited Dublin twice, and both times we make a stop at the Temple Bar. We also like staying at the Morgan down the street, so it's a five-minute walk on Temple Bar to the pub. The first time was before the pandemic, where we enjoyed some pints as some local band performed some music from the stage at 11 in the morning local time. During a regular occasion, you can expect the Temple Bar to be packed from noontime onward, so make sure you come earlier if you're looking to score a table. The second time was when Ireland was only allowing outdoor seating, so we had to sit on stools at one of the available whiskey barrel tables. But still, it was nice to chill outdoors on a day where the skies were blue, and the sun was blazing. The staff was always friendly as we ordered our drinks. Knew it was a tourist trap and expected to be treated as such, but when I went to the toilet, leaving my coat on the chair and my wife there with my third full $12 Guinness, thought it would be there when I get back. Instead their desire to turnover tables had some wait staff grab the glass when my wife wasn't looking. Otherwise a good experience, hence the relatively good mark, but as this is not a spot for regulars and they don't have to worry much about return business, expect to be moved along, unlike any other pub we were in in Ireland for the previous two weeks. read more

Leading up to my trip, I was told to stay away from The Temple Bar. "It's a tourist trap", "the drinks are overpriced", yadayada. Let me tell you, I went to countless pubs during my stay in Ireland and this one was the most fun hands down. Is the place full of tourists? Yes. But ask yourself, are you tourist? There's nothing wrong with being around people also on a trip. They're all there to have a good time, just as I'm assuming you are. Are the drinks overpriced? Barely. And coming from the US, The Bay Area at that, the drinks were honestly still a lot cheaper than what I'm used. Did I find the craic? While I found the craic pretty much every night, the craic here was unbeatable. Roaring singalongs to live performers, drinks flowing, people mixing and mingling, everyone having an amazing time. If you're looking for the craic, look no further. The Temple Bar has your back. Easy 10/10. read more

Despite being in one of the touristy areas of Dublin, I actually do recommend this location for a quick bite and a couple of drinks. Dublin Is slowly re-opening as of the beginning of September. We were able to dine inside and have a light lunch and some drinks. You will need to show proof of vaccination whether the EU pass or the vaccination card from the United States. They will also ask for your contact information for any contact tracing. Be kind and comply with this request. We were able to take a seat anywhere we want it and sat in the middle section of the location. We were probably greeted by a female server from Argentina it was super helpful in deciding what to order. We opted to have the salmon plate and oysters to share as well as a Coke and 1 pint. It was probably around 11:30-12 when we dined. There was no live music at this time however on Sunday around 2 PM or 3 PM we did hear some live music. The oysters and the salmon plate were outstanding. All of the meals that we had during our visit were excellent. The front door and service staff were very friendly and helpful. We visited the Temple Bar gift shop on the other side of the building to pick up some souvenirs which were reasonably priced. The area does get lively towards the evening.
