This was a horrible experience from beginning to end! I recently lost 80 lbs and had a lot of name brand clothes that I wanted to sell to help to get more clothes that would now fit. Over the last few months I brought in many things to consign. Beware of the contract that you have to sign, they don't ever keep in touch with you and now say that they own all of the clothes that I brought in and only owe $17.50. Beware!!!! read more

Not impressed one bit.... I looked into this business as a local option over driving 30+ minutes to the nearest Goodwill. I called the day before as the only web listing to this business was through Facebook. The answering machine gave me a fast idea of hours. I finaly came across a web site though Facebook. Well the answering machine and website had different hours. I ended up messaging them through Facebook to clairify the hours. Following morning I got there some twenty minutes after they were suppose to open. CLOSED. No note on the door about running late just CLOSED. I messaged them again... here some 6hours later no reply back. Not impressed. The only reason I can see for not opening when listed, is they must have really high prices to afford not to open one advertised. Parking is not the easiest. It is at a busy intersection with on street parking. I highly recommend making the drive to some big name store where you know they will be open and not hold hours of convenience. read more

I am absolutely disgusted with The Thrifty Bear and it's owner. If I could give negative stars I would! My 16 year old sister went in to look at prom dresses with a friend. She was told that she would have to lose weight and that she was too big to fit in. She is by no means a large girl (barely a size 10 for fucks sake). The owner also took a jab at the jewelry and clothing that my sister was already wearing, saying it looked bad. She was told that the locket that she was wearing looked bad as well. The locket was given to her after her grandfathers death. There is absolutely no excuse for anyone to body shame a child and this piece of filth shouldn't be in business. The service that was given to my sister was unacceptable and deplorable. This is a terrible store and I am sad that my sister was treated so badly. I hope the owner can sleep at night telling young girls that their bodies aren't perfect the way they are. read more

Like all of the other reviews, this one isn't a surprise. The Thrifty Bear can politely fuck itself. Every time they are suppose to be open, they are ALWAYS CLOSED. Constantly they never open and like one of the other reviewers said, there hours online and by the phone are different. The woman who owns the shop or owned hopefully... was a complete prude when I last went there with my mom. She was heavyset, short black hair, and EXTREMELY SPECIFIC about types of clothing. If you were to consign anything, good fucking luck to you. The items are HEAVILY over priced which doesn't make sense to call it "Thrifty Bear" if there is nothing cheap to buy. I mean, it's bloody Jaffrey for fucksake... not West End Boulevard. Haven't been there in years, always closed. read more

The store is well laid out; the clothes are on the upper end of brands (no WalMart or Target brands here); a large selection of jewelry, purses, and shoes, too. And because the owner has strict guidelines about what gets accepted for consignment, you will be purchasing clean, well maintained clothes free of rips, tears, and stains. And they're always changing their window dressings, so you know what's current in the shop. Highly recommend. read more

Unfortunately Jaffrey does not have a great (or even GOOD) clothing consignment shop. Chloe's Closet (now closed) is over-priced off-brands and junky, the Thrifty Bear is over-priced mall-brands. RIDICULOUSLY over-priced. I've been here a few times. Now I GET that there aren't really any "malls" near Jaffrey so they think they can charge a premium for "mall brand" clothing but COME ON...... It's USED clothing!! I guess they used to be ACTUALLY "thrifty". I have a friend who has lived in the area since her daughter was born & when her daughter was a baby (7 years ago!!) she would leave the store with a bag-full of clothing for $20. But come on. Now?? $12-20 for a pair of used maternity jeans?? I don't care if it IS name-brand. They're used!! I've never brought anything here to consign because, well, they over-price everything & are ridiculously picky about brands. I don't think I've even actually ever bought anything from here, now that I think about it. I've just been in a few times & been unimpressed. I went here begrudgingly with my mom & she found a nice dress (the kind you'd wear ONCE to a wedding) with a PEN stain & the woman would not budge on the price. Seriously??? A PEN stain?? & if the pen stain wouldn't come out???? How about tell the person who wants to consign it to have it dry-cleaned & not bring it in stained, instead of trying to pawn off stained merchandise on a customer?? Ridiculous. Not impressed. (Parking on street & behind the building) EDIT NOTE - was in here recently. It hasn't changed. It's still cluttered. Too small, trying to be "everything to everyone" & thus failing because there's not room in such a tiny space for mens, womens, childrens, maternity, AND formal wear. There's only room for a handful of kids items in each size, so the selection is very poor. As small as the store is, it should be organized better but I was looking through the kids clothing & the sizes were mixed up. read more

I have visited The Thrifty Bear on occasion through out the years, now under new owner ( Kathy Hartwell) I find myself stopping in whenever I'm in Jaffrey, what a change! Very pleasant atmosphere, kinda reminds me of a boutique, very organized and not jam packed like some other consignment stores I have been to, a good variety of clothing and reasonably priced, they even have "the man cave" with good selection of men's clothes. Also a variety of jewelry, purses and shoes. I recommend you stop in and check out this consignment in a rough, can't miss it...it's the one with the fabulous window display. read more

I had a wonderful experience shopping at this "boutique" style consignment store.I found the clothing,shoes,jewelry,etc.to be of great quality for a very reasonable cost. There was an amazing assortment of brands to choose from not just "mall" style items.The owner was very friendly, attentive to the customers, and knowledgeable about her inventory. The space is well organized and aesthetically pleasing. I recommend you stop by and enjoy shopping there as much as I did !! read more
