Being in outside sales and having a lead foot to boot, can result in a few more speeding tickets than traffic school can handle. Although I get fewer tickets nowadays, I got one going 65 in a 40 a few months ago on my way to an appointment that would have been $465. I paid ticket clinic around $200. I got a bogus speeding ticket. ** spoiler: The Ticket Clinic got all of the charges and fines dropped. ** There were three cars ahead of me. We were all going over the speed limit. It was 9:15 am on a Saturday morning. The sky was clear. The road was dry. As we crested a hill, I noticed a motorcycle cop on a side street poised to nab anyone who was speeding down the hill. I took my foot off the gas immediately and my car gradually slowed to an acceptable speed. The other three cars ahead of me maintained their high speed. I thought to myself, one of those poor fools is going to get a ticket. The other cars pulled well ahead of me. The cop got his bike ready to pounce. Those other cars whizzed past the cop. Nothing. Then as I passed the cop at a reasonable speed, he pulled his bike behind me and turned on his "special" twirling light. I don't know why he let them speed past and then go after me. It might be because they were luxury cars and mine is an economy model. That's the only thing I can think of. Whenever I get pulled over, which happens about once every five years or more, I am polite to the officer. I also don't say much. I don't ask questions. I don't plead with the officer. I just take my ticket and go about my business. If the ticket is justified, I'll pay the fine, go to traffic school, or whatever else needs to be done. If I feel that the ticket is bogus, I'll contest it in court, not the roadside. The first thing I looked for when I got the ticket was the radar reading. In this case there wasn't one. Good. I'm not crazy. I wasn't speeding after cresting the hill. I'm definitely going to contest this. This ticket came at a bad time for me. I was going through a transition at work. My attention was on other things. I kind of forgot about the ticket. Then I found out that in my new position that I was training for, I couldn't have any moving violations on my record. I checked the ticket. It was due in two days. I hadn't arranged time off from work to go to court. I was SCREWED!! But then I remembered a giant ad on a bus stop. Later that day I drove past that same bus stop and wrote down the information for THE TICKET CLINIC. I'm not at all the type of person who gets their lawyers off of giant bus stop posters, but I was desperate. I gave them a call. What could I lose. I explained my ticket to THE TICKET CLINIC. I made sure to highlight the fact that there was no radar info on my ticket. Back in October, I was pulled over and charged with excessive speeding (and warnings for driving in the commuter lane without a passenger/not having a CA license). I received 2 tickets for not "stopping" at a stop sign in my neighborhood in Corona, CA by the same motorcycle cop just 3 months apart from each other. I felt like I stopped both times, so I didn't want the tickets to go on my record. The fines I would have had to pay to the state would have been between $200-300 for each ticket. Instead I decided to pay the lawyers at the ticket clinic $300 for each of my tickets and they were able to get both dismissed so now I have no points or convictions on my record, so my insurance rates didn't go up! Also, that cop didn't get what he wanted by writing me bogus tickets, because no extra money went to the state and no convictions on my driving record. Personally, I would much rather pay a lawyer than pay even more money to the state of CA, since they already tax so much. And overall, I'll keep saving money in the long run by not having my insurance rates go up.
