So 3.5 stars overall. Was here for Sunday brunch with a larger group. Arrived at 10am at open. Seated, the view is actually very good. Brunch cocktails were good. Ordered the avocado toast and the food itself tasted very good but arrived lukewarm warm. Some of the diners I was with described their meals as cold which was unfortunate. The server was good but could have been more attentive. Overall I would recommended but be prepared. A smaller party might have a better experience. Give them a try. Again good overall and I would return. read more

I was impressed with this place! You never know what you'll get with a hotel restaurant, but the views and ambiance really set the tone. Enjoyed all the food and drinks ordered. Pictured are the Irish bliss + crème brûlée martini and steak with fries... to die for! Loved the views all around. The ambience is beautiful! The service was HORRIFIC! Took 10-15 min to get water. The short rib Benedict- eggs were hard boiled and the short rib was salty af. My meal was suppose to come with sausage, bacon, and hash...but the "ran out" of hash and sausage ( didn't say anything until I pointed it out) The waitress was nice enough but the manager couldn't even be bothered to come to the table after we pointed out the issues. This ain't your mamas embassy suites... I'm going all the way up! What a special place Rockford has. Atmosphere- they did a great job of restoring this, to what I believe was an old faster factory, into a great hotel, event space, and restaurant. The roof top includes not one not two but three outdoor decks with a great view of the Rock river. White lights and fire pits make you feel like you are about an hour 15 to the south east ;) Service- our waiter checked in on us often and provided suggestions for the top things in the area to do as we were just passing through. Great service! Food- they sure do make their food pretty and I'm a sucker for an edible flower. The watermelon feta salad is a must get! Loved the heavy pour on wine ;) Tip- free parking on the weekend. read more

Another fantastic experience at The Top! This time, we tried a few more items. So far, I've had about everything on the menu and I believe that any option you may get is top-notch. No pun intended. There is no bad choice whether you're ordering off of the drink menu or the food menu. We had got in right when they opened for the day and were greeted with prompt and friendly service from every staff member. For a drink, i definitely recommend trying the 13th Floor. Our brisket flatbread came out hot and delicious and the watermelon caprese (one of my all-time favorite dishes) cooled it down nicely. We also decided to try their signature dish this time around: the pork shank. Amazing. Another one of the best dishes that I've tried in the area. The executive chef even came out and asked how everything was, which was a nice touch to the experience even though it is a causal place to dine. Between the unique food & drinks and a view that you can't get anywhere else in the city, I believe everyone should be sure to add The Top to their bucket list no matter where they live! read more

While we didn't order any food, we did get a couple drinks. My friend got a martini and she said it was sweet and not too strong. Since I like my drinks pretty fruity, I got the razzle dazzle. It was not only good, but sooo pretty. As for the atmosphere, it was a nice open space and the noise level was a full roar, making it easy to hear each other. Food was good, wasn't as described on the menu though. Maybe more clarification on that would help. Service was slow, ordered beverages & meal at the same time and they pretty much came out at the same time. The rooftop was comfortable though, fire pits all around really setting a nice mood. It wasn't until we were chasing down our server to pay the tab that we found out they were short staffed due to 2 weddings going on downstairs, maybe add additional staff for those times? Servers were super friendly but you could tell they were very much spread out and working extra hard to take care of everyone. The sauces taste canned. The portion sizes are laughable. $13 for a meager serving of chicken with jarred sauces (no ranch either). The menu was bizarre and all 8 of us struggled to find something to order that sounded good enough to eat and not break the bank. Our waitress was not attentive- but with a party of 8 the tip was included on the check. She probably figured it didn't matter if she did a good job or not. None of us will ever go back. This was the most disgusting service I have ever had from a so called "renewed" business of Rockford. The poor quality cannot even be attributed to it just being from Rockford. Our server was amazing, even going down to the first floor kitchen to get a condiment that was requested when not available in the 12th floor restaurant. The 12th floor panoramic views are nice both next to the river and looking up Main Street toward the Coronado theater lights seen in the near distance. In addition to the great food, service, and views, the building itself is also very cool, maintaining bricks and concrete columns of the original Amerock factory blended with modern faire throughout. The staff, the food and the view were all great! Mara the hostess graciously hooked us up with a window table so my mom could see the Stroll on State fireworks and Kayla was our very sweet (and busy!!!) server. We enjoyed the lobster rolls, duck confit, and steak frites. Every bite was delicious. The ambience was lively. They did seem short staffed so patience is a virtue to bring with you.
