Recently we stayed at Almar and decided to take advantage of the rooftop restaurant and bar. The views are amazing. You can see for miles. The food was good each time. The only thing lacking was the service and the consistency of the drinks. We had amazing service half the time and so so the other half. One night we had the best drinks of our trip so far and the second we had to send a drink back. Then they had the gall to charge us for the drink that was sent back even though it wasn't replaced. Being forced to pay for something I didn't get and only when it's contested when the bill is presented you offer to replace it but not remove it from the bill is unacceptable anywhere. Hence the three star review. Great views, good food, hit and miss service and drinks.

Sunset is gorgeous!

We were told this was a fabulous place to go to see the sunset, and I have dinner. I will have to agree that seeing the sunset here was truly amazing. But drinks and dinner that's all another thing. When we arrived, we decided we'd have a cocktail. I ordered a dirty martini, and it was more dirty, than martini. It is the first time in my life I've ever gotten a martini with more olive juice than anything else and olives with pits. We decided not to eat there as the menu was so different from the menu shown online, and it was really nothing on it that appealed to me for dinner. Once we got there, I realized that it was more of a drag club than a dinner house and apparently they have great drag shows. So if you want to be on the top of the world, is he a drag show, don't really care about your drink or your food, then this is the place.

If you're looking for a place to watch an epic sunset that's not on the beach, then this rooftop bar is the place to be. I came on a weekday in October and the place was very quiet, with the exception of 2 other individuals. This bar is located in a hotel so you'll need to go into the hotel to take the elevators up. The menu for food was limited and the drink selection was pretty standard. However everything tasted fresh, and had amazing presentation. We stayed through sunset and really got to drink in the views next to the windowed sides, watched some storm clouds roll in and waited in anticipation for the rain that ever came. Was surprised by a live show that took place later on that night. Overall great atmosphere, killer views, I wish I could go back soon.

So full disclosure; breakfast here was included for us as part of a package deal, with a five-night star for Thanksgiving/White Party Weekend, so we had our first meal of the day here, every day, for the duration of our stay. We also lounged a bit while they were cleaning our room, one day, and we popped in briefly for an opening party for the White Party at 9pm one night, though that was a bit early and I think we missed the primetime of said event. The servers were all really pleasant, doting, delightful. The design was on-point. The views were amazing. The food was absolutely wonderful for inclusive-with-the-package, though there are a couple of amazing breakfast places in town that arguably have better food, if we were wanting to forego our comped breakfasts in lieu of paying for it elsewhere (which we weren't). Honestly one of my favorite places to spend an hour, each morning, in the whole of Puerto Vallarta.

Very nice rooftop restaurant/bar within an LGBT resort. My girlfriend and I visited twice during our week stay in PV. Our first time the kitchen was closing so we only had cocktails, and the second time we had breakfast x drinks (at noon, lunch doesn't start til 1). Both times the service was great. Team effort by the staff, we had multiple people checking in on us to make sure we had everything we needed. Cocktails were great! Their drink menu has obviously had some thought and love put into it as I saw a lot of new combinations. I ordered the Jon Kortajatena both visits cause I liked it so much! During our breakfast visit I had breakfast enchiladas with steak sans egg, and my gf the chilaquiles. We were both impressed with our meals and of course the sweeping view of PV's beach(es). Will happily come back during our next trip to PV!

Great view, just sadly very very poor service - takes forever to get drinks even when it's not busy - The managers just hang out like customers and don't ensure the waiters do their job. This is our second time here this week and will he out last for a long time

My husband and I had such a fun time at this place. We enjoyed a good drag show, good drinks, and a nice view of the sunset. Note: this is a late review--we visited Oct 2020.

The service up at the 13th floor "The Top Sky Bar" (at the Almar Resort) is impressive and hospitable and really makes for an enjoyable time. We have been up here four times so far during our vacation to PV and coming for the Ru Paul show tomorrow evening. The cocktails and appetizers have been very good. Man, do not miss this place for breakfast to start your day...you cannot beat this place for breakfast, the view is amazing and the service a refreshing wake up to your day. Very nice fruit plate as well as typical brew offerings. The decor is very classy as well . Of note Roberto and Luis are super!

Ceviche is as good as it looks!

Staff and waiters were incredible. They were so much fun! Plus the food was good. The views are incredible..

Didn't find the gem until 3 days into my vacation. I was not sure they would allow non-hotel guest visit, but they did and they were so welcoming. The service team (especially Ricardo) was extremely attentive, drinks were tasty and creative. But the food was the best thing they offer. I was so impressed with the quality of the food I retuned the same evening for dinner. For lunch I had the burger!!!! Please try this as you will thank me later for it. AND then for dinner I had the angus filet, cooked perfectly and with the combination of view, food and drinks, I will be staying here on my next trip to PV.

Margaritas!! Super delicious

Don't even bother. Cold food, indifferent service. This place is apparently resting on its roof deck which honestly isn't even that great.

The skimpiest most overpriced drinks we've ever experienced. At least in NY and WeHo bartenders pour generously

They use tanqueray as their house gin which is unusual but a pleasant surprise as it actually happens to be my preferred brand. I didn't have high hopes for the martini - I find that outside of major U.S. cities places end up putting in way too much vermouth - and it actually ended up being fantastic. It didn't taste too different from what I would make at home which is probably the best thing I could say about a martini (for my own personal taste). I tried a fruitier one - the Gigi - as my second and final drink. It was good but I'm just not a fruity drink person. I just wasn't equipped to handle another standard martini lol. The ambiance is phenomenal - it was both casual and comfortable yet classy. The crowd was much older than I expected although not in a bad way at all. There were lots of expats in their 50s and 60s. I was worried it would be a rowdy rooftop and by contrast it was actually a very chill vibe. Only complaint is that the bathroom is outside of the venue down the stairs and you need a key to enter, which was a bit annoying bc I wanted to use the restroom before I left and I forgot to ask for the key on my way out. Small annoyance and certainly wouldn't prevent me from going back.

It is also billed as a "rooftop" bar and so I was here for the view and the online drink specials. When pulling up to the location, I asked if we were to take the elevator to the top floor and the attendant/bellman pointed to the right and I said "Excuse me? This is the rooftop?". I immediately felt dooped until I walked 10 more feet and then I saw the "rooftop". Because the building is built into the side of a hill, the view is overlooking the bay and it is SPECTACULAR. We took a few photos and we warned by the staff that certain seating amenities were reserved for guests of the condos above the bar. We quickly snapped our photos and sat down for a few drinks. Some guests in the pool had Bahama Mamas, frozen Tequila sunrises, etc. My friends and I ordered various things: lemon drops, straight martinis, beers, etc. The prices were more than reasonable, the setting sun was AMAZING, the views were earth shattering and the service was attentive. This is an excellent "pre-gaming" location and I suggest that you take advantage of this location before you leave PV!

Music added ambiance but wasn't the pounding club vibe of some other places. Water in this area is calm and not overly crowded. Maybe I just got lucky, but the people sitting near me were friendly which was nice on my solo trip. The menu looks good, and those around me got their food relatively quickly and had no complaints, but my experience was different. It took forever to get someone to take my order. Well over half an hour, I'd been given no update about my order. When my waiter finally happened to pass by, I asked about my food, and told him to cancel my cocktail and just bring me water. I was so dehydrated and hungry . The water didn't take too long (though it should've been faster considering the extended wait already), but my ceviche took at least another half hour to get to me. It looked ok and tasted fine, but within an hour, my stomach turned sour. I spent the next two days feeling sick. It left me wondering if my food had been sitting out. I'm not saying don't go there, but be careful with what you order, and if your food isn't served promptly, maybe cancel it just to be safe.

Bar La Playa is a MUST first-stop when visiting Zona Romantica…read more On our most recent trip to Puerto Vallarta, we wanted to spend a day in this part of the region. After looking up good places to go, Bar La Playa came up- and I'm sure glad it did! First, it's easy to get to if you're coming from North. Our Uber was easily able to drop us off without getting stuck in gridlock traffic that can affect certain roads of this area. Additionally, the location isn't a high-traffic area for tourists. That meant we were able to walk up and immediately find seats. Second, the service was top notch. I didn't get the bartenders name, but he was very welcoming, friendly, hospitable and spoke English. Just an overall cool dude and was glad to support his business. Third, the drinks were great. Finally, we were drinking 'real' drinks, not the watered down sugary stuff at the hotel. We were very satisfied with the taste of the drinks. Fourth, the prices are really good. Mexico has gotten expensive and this was a sigh of relief. You can have a great time here without feeling like you paid an arm and a leg. I highly-highly recommend making Bar La Playa your first stop when coming to this area. You're going to get great service, great drinks and all at a price that is reasonable and fair.
