This bar sits atop Pulpito street. You can either take the many stairs or drop a couple peso tip for the man operating the funicular to take a load off. Sadly the lobby has lost its view due to condo construction, but is still a lovely place to enjoy a cocktail any time of day. If you're lucky enough to stay here, you can enjoy the infinity pool and accompanying swim up bar while watching a beautiful sunset.

Can't get tired of this view

Great spot for Happy Hour sunsets. Drinks are 2-for-1 from 530-8pm. Good pours! Service attentive. No better place for lively scene and drinks to get the evening started

This review only pertains to happy hour. They have a very nice happy hour with a view that is worth the climb (lots of stairs if you are at bottom of hill). Drink specials are reasonable and wait staff is super nice. Also the few times we came here the crowd consisted of mostly friendly tourists. Which I guess means if you want to meet and mingle with the locals go elsewhere but if you want to mingle with other tourists this is the place.

If patience isnt a virtue you posses, you might be better served enjoying your happy hour with the guy selling Pacifico from a cooler on the street corner. Stay classy and enjoy your beverage and conversations (although i never waited more than a few minutes to get the waiter's attention). Come early, because it gets crowded. Exceptional service every time I visited- the staff are super busy during happy hour, but also incredibly accommodating and friendly. Tip well and they'll remember you the next time you visit.

Beautiful place to start the evening. Watch the sunset and have a drink. Mixed low key crowd.

They use tanqueray as their house gin which is unusual but a pleasant surprise as it actually happens to be my preferred brand. I didn't have high hopes for the martini - I find that outside of major U.S. cities places end up putting in way too much vermouth - and it actually ended up being fantastic. It didn't taste too different from what I would make at home which is probably the best thing I could say about a martini (for my own personal taste). I tried a fruitier one - the Gigi - as my second and final drink. It was good but I'm just not a fruity drink person. I just wasn't equipped to handle another standard martini lol. The ambiance is phenomenal - it was both casual and comfortable yet classy. The crowd was much older than I expected although not in a bad way at all. There were lots of expats in their 50s and 60s. I was worried it would be a rowdy rooftop and by contrast it was actually a very chill vibe. Only complaint is that the bathroom is outside of the venue down the stairs and you need a key to enter, which was a bit annoying bc I wanted to use the restroom before I left and I forgot to ask for the key on my way out. Small annoyance and certainly wouldn't prevent me from going back.

Music added ambiance but wasn't the pounding club vibe of some other places. Water in this area is calm and not overly crowded. Maybe I just got lucky, but the people sitting near me were friendly which was nice on my solo trip. The menu looks good, and those around me got their food relatively quickly and had no complaints, but my experience was different. It took forever to get someone to take my order. Well over half an hour, I'd been given no update about my order. When my waiter finally happened to pass by, I asked about my food, and told him to cancel my cocktail and just bring me water. I was so dehydrated and hungry . The water didn't take too long (though it should've been faster considering the extended wait already), but my ceviche took at least another half hour to get to me. It looked ok and tasted fine, but within an hour, my stomach turned sour. I spent the next two days feeling sick. It left me wondering if my food had been sitting out. I'm not saying don't go there, but be careful with what you order, and if your food isn't served promptly, maybe cancel it just to be safe.

After looking up good places to go, Bar La Playa came up- and I'm sure glad it did! First, it's easy to get to if you're coming from North. Our Uber was easily able to drop us off without getting stuck in gridlock traffic that can affect certain roads of this area. Additionally, the location isn't a high-traffic area for tourists. That meant we were able to walk up and immediately find seats. Second, the service was top notch. I didn't get the bartenders name, but he was very welcoming, friendly, hospitable and spoke English. Just an overall cool dude and was glad to support his business. Third, the drinks were great. Finally, we were drinking 'real' drinks, not the watered down sugary stuff at the hotel. We were very satisfied with the taste of the drinks. Fourth, the prices are really good. Mexico has gotten expensive and this was a sigh of relief. You can have a great time here without feeling like you paid an arm and a leg. I highly-highly recommend making Bar La Playa your first stop when coming to this area. You're going to get great service, great drinks and all at a price that is reasonable and fair.
