Our experience started out great. We were greeted outside and asked if there were any allergies. I stated that I have a gluten allergy. I honestly don't know if that information was shared with our waiter. The museum downstairs is so unique and beautiful, as is the dining space upstairs- amazing views. Our experience was ruined by the way we were treated. Because of my allergy we opted to just order guac (and what we assumed would be chips- silly us) and drinks. Our waiter seemed preoccupied, but whatever. The wine list was not impressive (Dark Horse red blend which you buy an entire bottle for about half the price of a glass). Still not a deal breaker- we were in a good mood and ready to enjoy the experience. Our waiter dropped off our small plate that had little toasts on it. We were a little taken aback and I stayed apologetically that I couldn't eat it and that I assumed it came with chips. He acted so annoyed- eye roll and all, muttered something and walked away acting pissed off. There was something so off putting about it. My friend and I just looked at each other and decided then and there we were out. I'm glad others have had better experiences. You could tell that the restaurant was probably a lot of hype solely because of the view. We loved the area and wanted to give restaurants our business- it was spring break time and NOT busy because of the cartel incident. Beautiful ambience, open air above the marina with spectacular panoramic views. We were worried about bringing our young children - and immediately the server brought out legos and binoculars which kept the kids entertained the whole time! Drinks and food were wonderful. We loved the fresh guacamole and the shrimp skewers were seasoned with a wonderful heat. We will definitely be back. read more

My family and I decided to visit el faro as a goodbye to puerto Vallarta on our last night. The experience was very exciting. We were lucky to see the moon rise and the sunset. It was absolutely stunning. The food itself was "ok". The drinks looked very fun. The waiters were also very friendly. We did the three course meal but don't think I could recommend it. Aside from the shrimp, the chorizo were pretty yummy. The muscle dish was fresh. the rest of the food was ok. Now the one warning I would add is that two out of three people got sick after eating there. With one of them being myself and having Gastrointestinal issues(food poisoning) throughout the night. The next day was the same with gastrointestinal issues and nausea(basically still experiencing it). I would recommend going there for drinks and the view but would warn against the food. read more

Servers gave lots of attention to the tables. Drinks were tasty but the views are the real winner here. Definitely a must try. read more

So I was walking by and this lighthouse caught my eye. I looked at the menu and saw they were advertising a 3 course meal for like 500 pesos. Decided to check it out as I hadn't decided on a place for Valentine's Day with my girlfriend. Hostess was great, the older waiter who greeted me was fantastic. Then a younger waiter greeted me. He was very enthusiastic until he realized I wasn't going to drink, and I was here to order the special. After that he was notably curt, not outright rude just passive aggressive curt. I understand his disappointment but you still need to be a pro. I've eaten at fine dining across the world and very rarely treated like this. My girlfriend is rather sensitive about such things, she would have made me walk out. I'm not that sensitive but she and many of my friends are. Last thing was when the waiter came with my check he says "20% good for the tip", again I understand you want to make the $$&, but I have never been encouraged a certain percentage anywhere... The view is spectacular, the ambience is good, but your young wait staff need some retraining. You have no idea if I'm a travel blogger, or just some dude with a bunch of rich friends scouting out for places to have a good time. Treat everyone the same and you don't have to worry about that. There are A LOT of options out there. I cannot recommend or repeat. read more

Great service. Great ambience. If the food was like the music we'd be good! I paid my entire bill before I spoke to the manager. The main dishes were not good at all. The fish was bland...sides too. The beef was tough and thin--cooked just enough and almost seemed like in a microwave... If I pay this kind of money for 2 people with a couple drinks each ($300) then it better get better. Again, I paid...it's not about the money. I love PVR... El Faro, you gotta do better! And....I don't think the manager listened to a word I said! If you go to this restaurant, it is for the view not the menu. A group of four of us decided to order off their special menu, and the food was subpar at best. Definitely very overpriced but again you're there for the view. Wanted a glass of water and were all told that the only option was water in a small glass bottle for four dollars American. If you wanted a water refill, they brought you a new glass bottle and charge you again. my dinner was the fillet and it had a bunch of huge tendons running through my entire filet and was pretty much inedible. For how much they were charging, I'm surprised they even put that plate in front of me. I would never return and never recommend to anyone else. Maybe come to the top of the lighthouse, have a drink, enjoy the view and leave. read more

Today is the 11th day of the grand reopen of the El Faro restaurant and bar in Marina Vallarta. We were there years ago and the best part of the experience was strictly the view. It is now a fine French restaurant with outstanding food and service. My wife and I along with our adult daughter walked to El Faro (the Lighthouse in Español). The menu has diverse starters and entrees. An excellent wine list and great prices. We started with several appetizers, including a Cesar chicken salad, Tuna tartare, salmon tartare and shrimp and chicken Skewers. The Louis Martini Cab was also excellent. I highly recommend this establishment for fine dining. Oh yes, the view is still spectacular. Recommend arriving around 6:40 for the sunset. Total bill was US$215. Amazing meal and one of our now favorite dining experiences. My daughter is a registered dietitian who has written 7 or 8 books and she too was taken by the exquisite food and service. read more

You come here for the view not the drinks. Beautiful view and nice breezy wind from the sea. But don't expect the drinks will be beautiful. They skimp on the liquor and don't come close to the top of the glass. Yes drinks are pricy but seems like they take advantage of the locality. Stick to wine that cant be watered down. The olives were definitely a tasty surprise but not worth the price. Again come for the view not the drinks. Good thing they don't push to buy more drinks. 4 stars? I think not. This place has a view but that's pretty much all it has going for it. Only tourists frequent this place, the wine menu is lacking, the food is bad and the music is LOUD. Not in a good way. Don't order the olives. They're straight out of a jar and taste like oranges. It's very offputting. We asked for mixed nuts and got peanuts. Avoid the Malbec at all costs. This is actually a super cool concept! It's a lighthouse (not really in terms of working order). You can take the elevator, or you can fit in a little cardio by going up the 126 steps to the top. The view is of the marina area, boats, hotels, and at just the right angle - sunset. It's a really nice view. The top has windows that open for a breeze, small bistro tables with cozy-ish chairs. The bar is in the middle with complete beverage offerings. They finally started serving food a while back. It's Asian fusion and more tapas or appetizer style. We were 2 couples and ordered 5 different plates. Everything was really good! I definitely want to go back to try more menu items and perhaps get a better seat for a better view :) read more

Great drinks, but horrible DJ! They allowed us to choose some songs, then told us (after we tipped them) "ok, that's enough with that music, people want to listen to other things" we closed out tabs. One of the best views in the Marina. One time I was here they had some good music playing. Other times, not so much. It is a nice place to go and have a drink and talk, overlooking the marina. Don't let the stairs intimidate you. It is pretty easy to climb them to the top. There is an elevator if needed. read more

The lighthouse is fabulous, walking up the stairs with all the lights had a great vibe and the atmosphere is very elegant and lively. Unfortunately the service is awful, there is no drink menu, a dog randomly roams around the restaurant, which don't get me wrong I'm a huge dog lover but for a restaurant of this caliber it just doesn't feel right. The staff we interacted with very not very friendly and seemed extremely rushed. We ordered vodka sodas with lime juice but got vodka sodas with a lime, and no juice both very weak as well as whiskey sours which apparently are not the whiskey sours we are used to as they came out like frozen orange daiquiris, also very weak. The food was also strange, we planned to eat here but after seeing that they serve Chinese food, we decided to just have a drink. What a disappointment. They really missed the mark here and have a lot of work to do. read more

When entering the lighthouse, you may think you're in the wrong place as you hear thumping 80s music but look up and see nothing for several stories except a spiral staircase around the inside of the cylinder. But once you take the small rickety elevator (with glass windows, a nice touch) up to the top, you'll know you've found an awesome spot with 360 degree views of the city. The drink menu is designed for the minimalist who prefers her brand on the rocks or straight up but they'll whip you up a margarita or something a little more fun. The food menu is extremely limited (unimpressive pizza, chicken wings, and what are basically cut up hot dogs in a martini glass). But you're not here for the food, you're here to settle on in to some comfy chairs with friends and marvel at the city lights as you gab the night away. ¡Salud! read more
