The captain and Carlos, the maitre de was on the spot. We got a history lesson about clearwater. We passed Tom Cruise house and Clearwater aquarium. The cruise was just long enough and not too short to care. Wifey got sick and the captain had some dromamine to but her at ease. Thanks, captain. A beautiful day for a 2 hour tour. It was a nice way to see the Clearwater Beach area and have lunch. The buffet was decent, but a little small. The fish was tasty, but the rice and beans kind of bland. The ziti was good and the fresh fruits. My husband liked the beef. The mixed rum punch wasn't so good, but at least there was wine which was tasty. The desserts weren't included, but there was cheesecake, chocolate cake and key lime pie for sale. It was air conditioned inside which was nice, but a little hard to hear the captain telling about the sights. The service was okay, but a little pushy for tips and coffee wasn't offered with dessert, but it was there so we got it ourselves. Ive done the fancier dinner cruise owned by the same company a couple times and we enjoyed it. SO we had family in town and decided to try out Calypso. We boarded easily. A tip is to take an uber down there because parking is horrible on a Friday or saturday afternoon. Once we boarded we had a table assigned to our group. We sat dow and our server came over right away. We ordered some drinks. Beer and wine is inlcluded but we had to pay for liquor. It was pretty low priced and the drinks were stiff. We had two servers and they were both very nice and helpful. WHat surpised me about this cruise was the food. I enjoyed the food on calypso more than the food on their higher end dinner cruise. It was very tasty. After we ate we went on the roof top for a while and enjoyed the views. We also spent some time near the DJ where people were dancing and having a great time. We booked the Calypso Breeze out of Madeira beach. It was SO perfect. The check in/boarding process was smooth, the staff on board were really kind. The BUFFET was really yummy! I enjoyed the BBQ pulled pork, cole slaw and the beef terriyaki. The upstairs was a perfect deck to watch the sights and enjoy the cruise. The music played through out the 3 story cruise was perfect, a friendly DJ took song requests, they had a great dance floor on each floor. The best part- the ticket prices included unlimited complimentary alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks! This is extremely worth the ticket price and I would come back. Zero customer service, waiting in traffic for an hour and a half, couldn't find parking, mind you we left 2 hrs before our boat bc they told us to. and we called saying we are 5 minutes out. paid for 3 people so $180, they left without us. had absolutely no directions, or help at all. they told us they would still be there. and left without us, fine. but they didn't even let us switch to the later boat, including not being refunded. Well this was a first for the wife and I, as we spent our 9th anniversary and 4th of July on the Calypso Queen. Overall it was fun and something different. Service was very kind and kept our rum punch cups filled up. Captain called out everyone on the ship that was celebrating a Birthday or anniversary and some fun live music to lighten to mood. The food was a little bit of a let down, mainly the chicken and beef. The Chicken was extremely fatty. My wife absolutely hates fat on chicken but I normally don't mind a little, but this was just pure fat and greasy. The beef was very tough and was very over cooked. Really the only thing that was good was the shrimp and sides. After Dinner we went up on the top deck to mingle and watch the sun go down. It was nice and calming. When it got dark the fireworks started coming from all directions. I hope the get better quality food next time. But I do want to try the sister ships sometime. read more

The bathrooms are clean and spacious enough to change baby diapers. This is my 2nd time on this cruise. $45 for 2 hours on the ocean, a lunch buffet, and all the beer you can drink! I did not eat $45 worth of food, but I drank 5 beers. Recently, they added a list of which foods are vegetarian, glucose-free, and dairy-free. This is great because I can eat more items now. (see photo) The best thing about the Calypso Queen is meeting foreigners and making connections with them. Yes, there is free booze and a yummy buffet; but the crowd is the most fun. If you're looking for a fun tropical casual dinner cruise, this is the one. A DJ is on the cruise to provide music. They music was a bit corny. They played the The Loveboat theme song and the Gilligan's Island theme song. They offer a buffet style dining experience. They had mango glazed chicken, beef teriyaki, salads, sides, and chilled steamed shrimp. They offered free beer, wine, soft drinks, and rum punch. A Clearwater classic! I joined my sis and BIL to celebrate his birthday for a dinner and boat ride. They had a Groupon deal while I used the website to purchase my ticket. Shortly after going on the boat you find your party name on the table and enjoy a glass of wine, rum punch, or beer. I tried a sip of the rum punch and it was too sweet for my liking. While docked is the time to enjoy the buffet. There's rolls/butter, salad, rice and beans, assortment of protein. Something in the dish made my stomach feel off the next day but couldn't tell what. The open bar is dangerously delightful so tread with care lol the white wine of choice they had was Chardonnay which was pretty tasty. This was super fun and different! We loved that it was a few hours long and all-you-can-eat. They were pretty organized and we loved the views (saw lots of dolphins and fireworks for 4th of July). The drinks were okay, they were better towards the end of the night (harder pours). My only qualm was the chicken & beef (according to Hubby) was super fatty and practically not edible... The shrimp and sides were really good though. Just whoever cooked the chicken did not do a good job. Overall though, everything was pretty good minus the meat. I found this dinner cruise while browsing resort website. Very easy to book and was $51 after taxes. We took the Jolley Trolley from our resort and arrived in less than 10mins. Wristband allowed for unlimited buffet access and rum punch. The view from the top deck was amazing. We saw several dolphins playing around in the water. Two stars because the people were nice and we made it back to shore without an incident. This was a surprise gift to me and it's never a good sign when the person who planned the surprise is apologizing throughout the trip. They were embarrassed to have picked a poor activity for us to do on a long weekend. The loading spot is just next to the roundabout on Clearwater Beach, you can't miss it along with the other excursion boats. There was a guy there taking your picture after you've gotten your wristband and ticket. Good thing is they didn't try to sell us a picture package like Universal Studios or Disney, I guess. Once on the boat, I can tell it's going to be an interesting ride. The boat is older, has mismatched furnishing, and the DJ is dressed as if he just woke up and is gonna chase a hang over with another hang over. I wasn't looking forward to the music AT ALL! They had Budweiser and Rum Punch for free so I thought Rum Punch would go great with the theme. Being from the Caribbean, it's unimaginable that someone can mess up a Rum Punch; that's like messing up a PB&J sandwich. It tasted like badly made Cool-Aid and rubbing alcohol. Once we left, every one onboard just thought " well, we might as well make the best of it." The Music was tolerable but nothing to make you dance; I expected Island favorites, some line dancing, but instead he played random stuff including Justin Timberlake. Nothing against Justin but this wasn't the setting for it. 20 minutes later the buffet was opened. I don't do buffets, so this was a completed turn-off. I tried a Caesar salad and white fish in sauce. It was ok, but I was ready to jump off the boat and hit Frenchy's or another local favorite ASAP. We were gone for a little bit over an hour and I was sooooo ready to get off of the boat. We had more fun walking the local area, getting a bite to eat and socializing with the locals. We could saved $125 and 1 1/2 hours of our time. I'm pretty sure this was a really good tourist spot at on point but given today's competition they may need to update to stay competitive. read more

For my daughters graduation we decided to grab lunch on the calypso queen (Madeira Beach location ) Tickets aren't Expensive and the lunch menu wasn't bad ! All the food was actually delicious although we had one issue on board , it taken care of right away ! So this place came highly recommended on several different sites as a good dinner cruise to do especially the sunset cruise. When you board they give you assigned seats which is perfect extra points for that set up. You get a welcome beverage a nice rum punch which is far more punch then rum. They do use well rum so can't expect it to be out of this world. The seating isn't terrible you do sit RIGHT next to the other table so get ready to make friends with your neighbors which we got lucky with. The staff is very friendly and extremely helpful which is nice they come around very often and refill your drinks. The food is okay nothing special they say it's a Caribbean food style which fell short the pasta taste like something that came out of a can the pulled pork was basic the rice was very good but you can't really mess that up. The only good thing was the beef with peppers and onions very good. Now you can't expect much with a buffet but at 60$ a person you expect a little bit Better. We sailed on the Calypso Queen on a Saturday night with our friends. The evening cruise was sold out so we anticipated a packed boat. We wondered if/how they would handle the dinner buffet with COVID and the Delta variant. Similar to other reviews, you sail on the Calypso Queen for an entertaining evening with friends (old and new met on the boat!), with great views and not for the food. They assign tables so if you are going with friends, make sure you specify that upfront so you can sit together. When we boarded, we found our table and went to the top deck to take in the views. They really wanted us to stay at our seats as they start dismissing tables for the buffet line shortly after departing. We complied and that was a good thing as we were some of the first tables directed to get our food. They didn't do anything different with food handling as a result of COVID. Everyone was serving themselves at the buffet with the same serving utensils. The food itself was fine, but nothing spectacular. Our group paid the extra for the all-you-can-drink of beer, wine, and rum punch. We all enjoyed a cup of rum punch when we boarded as we were greeted by our server that way. It was pretty bland and no detectable sign of rum so we all switched to the bottled beer or wine after that. One benefit of eating right away had us able to go out on one of the observation decks and take in the sunset. We anticipated going out further in the Gulf, so we were surprised the boat turned around before we ever got out to the formal gulf. The rest of the cruise was along the inter coastal which was likely a good call to keep the boat movement to more of a minimum. The boat was filled with different groups celebrating different events - wedding, birthday - or just time together. That added to the festive atmosphere as dance music was playing throughout on all decks inside and out. The Calypso Queen gave our group of 8 an entertaining way to be together, enjoy the sunset, and be on the water. read more

Enjoyed a buffet lunch cruise with some Red Hat friends on a beautiful sunny Saturday April day. The entire boat was booked by the Red Hat group and we enjoyed having a tropical theme buffet. We wore masks to board but had the option to remove when seated. Gloves were given to use at the buffet, and rum punch, sodas and water were available for drinks. We had a wonderful piece of German chocolate cake and coffee for dessert. The captain narrated a tour of the area, pointing out landmarks that included Hulk Hogan's former residence, as well as Tom Brady and Tom Cruise's homes.
