    Them canceling on us
    Ashley Q.

Honestly, I would leave no stars if I could, this was truly one of the WORST customer service experiences of my life. If you book third party, beware especially. Once we finally received our confirmation the day we arrived, we discovered that our rooms were in separate buildings. Nowhere on their website states there are 2 different facilities or we would have inquired ahead of time to ensure we as 2 single women were in the same building. They blatantly told us everything WE did was the problem. When we spoke to one of the owners on the phone he was polite enough but made it seem as if we booked as separate reservations, and any cancellation would result in a loss of our money, which we acknowledged we understood. We however, did not book as 2, it was one reservation on Expedia for 2 travelers. After getting off with him to discuss, his partner Ryan called back and immediately started being aggressively rude, blamed us for being "irresponsible" when booking our vacation, that we were "ruining the reputation of a small business," that we needed to quit being a "Karen" because we didn't know how to properly make arrangements. He threatened to "find out where you work so I can play these recordings and screw up your job the way you're screwing up mine". He cursed, he named called and after hanging up on him out of pure shock he called back to name call some more, which ultimately resulted in him calling me an "f-ing C U Next Tuesday" and stating he "couldn't wait to keep the money and leave us with nowhere to stay". I was blown away. I have never been spoken to like this for absolutely no reason. We had not threatened to leave a bad review, we had not asked for special accommodations, we were merely caught off guard by being in 2 different buildings without warning when we were 2 friends traveling together. The only thing that ruined the reputation of this business is the owner's disgusting attitude. He called back 9 more times repeatedly, and within 40 min from when we could access the hotel, text that our stay had been canceled. Add to it he's a local psychologist. I cannot ever imagine this person being stable enough to see patients. Steer clear unless you want to be verbally assaulted for literally no reason and potentially have nowhere to stay.

The two owners are currently trying to have my Google review removed, which is funny. TL;DR toilet closet in room with bed, slotted doors used, see image, no staff on sight to help as far as I could tell during my one night stay. After posting this review, as seen in screenshots, they seem eager to get ahold of me 4 calls and 3 texts later. They've been polite, but still, bit creepy, y'all O.o If you book through a third party, don't expect to receive the vital email that tells you a) where parking is, and 2) how to even access the hotel at all. Because as far as I could tell in the one night I was there...there wasn't any staff? You ring the doorbell cam and no one answers, you need to call the number listed on the little plaque hanging above the useless doorbell cam? You get the code, hope the door doesn't argue with you too much and there's a little entry way, a little entry room with coffee and a bathroom, a hallway, and staircase leading to more rooms, and two lounge like rooms...but no people. No staff. No convenient access to help if you need it? Honestly I think I coulda brushed all that nonsense aside until I saw the BATHROOM! In the pictures included, the tiny tiny room with the toilet is in the same room as the bed, and it has SLOTTED DOORS! As in you sit down for privacy? Naw, you can see everything. The people outside can't see everything, but that doesn't help much. The room with the shower and sinks was as big, if not bigger, than the room with the bed and toilet, so i can only imagine why they chose to place the TOILET in the rook with the bed instead of the room where a toilet belongs???? And to use those types of zero privacy doors, no less. The choice of toilet closet is what earned the Truitt my low score. It also doesn't seem ADA accessible at all, but I haven't done any research into that, so I'm hopefully missing something. But there didn't seem to be any way to avoid stairs in the building I was in. there was even a step between the bed room and the shower room. P.S. I posted this once the charges had been fully posted, nothing is pending, as in the room has been cleared by hotel workers and the card was appropriately charged. Any new charges that might appear will be seen as retaliatory. Something that happened to me years ago, now I'm just precautions!

The front room at Christmas. This room is dark and moody - just across the entry from the bright and light living room.

The Truitt is such a special place. The decor is spectacular, with every detail carefully thought out. From the minute you walk in the front door, you feel welcomed with soft lighting and the scent of roses. Our room was cozy and just what we needed with a walk-in shower and large covered balcony. The character of the old home is kept in tact with detailed trim and beautiful wood floors. The lighting really makes it with dimmers and art lights in key spots. Ryan was quick to respond to our texts and very helpful. Check in was easy and parking was available. My partner and I want to visit again in the Spring when we can enjoy the outdoor patio and grounds. Staying at the Truitt really made our trip to Kansas City special.

But hey... we got the top floor and could see the Ferris wheel and directly into other spaces of the hotel. The bathroom- supposedly luxury towels but were extremely frayed and thin. The amenities were fine but not special. The toilet is separated by a frosted 1/4 wall... but yet provided no privacy. It did serve to hide the look of the toilet though if that was merely a design decision rather than customer experience choice. The lighting was subpar. The internet was non existent and tv.. not even the option to stream your own Netflix. Which we needed because there was nothing else to do in the hotel (besides drink at the bar or swim with the rowdy kids on the terrace level ... or whatever that was). I woke up so tired after sleeping in the hot room (turned temp down as far as it would go, and had to kick off all covers) Just awful. When going to bed by 9pm and waking at 7am I should've felt rested and renewed. It was absolutely not my experience, nor my daughters. Overall, it's not at all the worst place... but definitely not near the top of nicest either.

I did appreciate that they comped a meal for everyone staying here through that, even though a fire alarm was totally out of their control. The rooms have plenty of character, and the valets work really hard here. They bring your car up super fast. The staff at the restaurant is super friendly, and they're good with kids too. It is important to note that the bar area comes to life on weekend nights (you have to walk by it to get to your room), but kids need to see what adults are like after the sun goes down at some point in their lives. But there is an art display on the ground floor of the hotel, so if your kids cannot resist touching something like that, this might not be the place for you. If you're visiting KC, you'd be lucky to stay at the Crossroads.

We pulled directly into the garage which is under the hotel. There is a door to the hotel in the garage and a doorbell where the staff can buzz you in to a secure elevator lobby. Th elevator will bring you up to check-in desk which is modern and spacious. The front desk attendant was very professional and efficient. Our room was spacious, included a couch, desk, closet, kitchenette with dishes, microwave, dishwasher, full refrigerator, stovetop and coffeemaker. The bathroom was clean and was stocked well. Most importantly the bed and pillows were very comfortable! The hotel does allow pets so we did have a few on our floor and we could hear them while walking down the hallway but not once we closed the door to our room. In the morning they provide a free breakfast in the lobby with a nice dining area. It's premade eggs, sausage, breads, etc. Breakfast is decent. The lobby also has a nice lounge/work area. We were not there long enough to check out the gym, pool or other amenities so I cannot comment on those items but from our experience, we enjoyed our stay. The hotel is also located in a great spot to walk to restaurants in the freight district and several other restaurants and bars from there.

If you're looking for a hotel that won't add stress to your wedding weekend, look elsewhere. We…read morebooked Hotel KC because our friend's wedding was hosted there, and since we were driving up from Texas, we wanted to make things easier by staying at the venue. My boyfriend was one of the groomsmen, so his weekend was already packed. We checked into the hotel on Friday so we could help the bride and groom if needed. When we got to our room, I noticed the door didn't close all the way. I'm usually pretty cautious about hotels and Airbnbs, so I asked the front desk to fix it right away. My boyfriend had to leave for the rehearsal shortly after dropping off our luggage. A maintenance worker came quickly, but after 45 minutes, he removed the metal latch plate on the doorframe so the door would shut. I told him that didn't seem right and completely defeated the purpose of the lock, but he didn't speak English and was using Google Translate. He said it was a temporary fix and that the front desk would assist us later. The door did close, but it felt like anyone could easily break in. Since we had a busy schedule, we left for the rehearsal dinner around 6. After dinner, we returned and asked the front desk whether the door would be properly fixed that night or if we could switch rooms. The front desk agent said they had multiple weddings that weekend, so all rooms were booked and nothing was available. She also said, "Our hotel is very safe, nothing happens." That's not something you want to hear as a guest. If I'm paying for a room, I expect to feel safe, not wonder if I'll be the first to experience a problem, especially since I had multiple expensive camera gear with me. We insisted on having the door fixed before bed, so they sent an "engineer" upstairs. When we explained the issue, he told my boyfriend that the metal piece on the doorframe was just for "aesthetics." At that point, my boyfriend was pissed. He grabbed the room key and a plastic spoon, propped the door open in front of the engineer, and demonstrated the issue. The engineer ended up calling two more maintenance workers and told us to leave for our event while they worked on it. We had to go downstairs for a late-night meet-and-greet, so they stayed to fix the door... again. When we came back around 11:30 PM, someone was still working on it. They reinstalled the metal plate and told me to slam the door hard for it to close. We had to do it multiple times, at midnight, while our neighbors were sleeping. He said it was the best they could do since no other rooms were available. We were exhausted and just went to bed. Saturday morning, the day of the wedding, my boyfriend left at 8 AM for suit fitting and to get ready with the groom. He asked me to check with the front desk, and they said we could switch rooms, but not until around 3 PM (normal check-in time). I reminded them that the wedding would already be happening then, and they apologized for the inconvenience. They sent yet another maintenance worker around 9 AM, this time with a drill, loudly working on the door and frame. I couldn't stay in the room with that noise (video), so I ended up spending time in the groom's suite. It was frustrating to pay for a hotel and barely have any time to relax in the room. There were constantly maintenance workers coming in and out, and I never felt safe being there alone. They finally moved us to a new room at 1 PM, right in the middle of the bridal party photos around the hotel. I couldn't carry all our luggage myself, so my boyfriend had to help me while wearing his groomsman suit. After everything, the hotel never apologized for the inconvenience or offered any kind of compensation. Overall, I'm extremely disappointed with their service. If this had been my wedding weekend, I would not have been this nice..

We used to drive up from Wichita where we lived and I remember staying there with my parents when we flew my mother out at the time Garth Brooks played the T-Mobile center. It's always been a good hotel and they don't miss much however this time there were a few things that were irritating. When you arrive to the hotel, you must go in and check in before you can park in the garage. However, the rear entrance to the hotel is locked even though the sign says the door is open from 6 AM to 10 PM. Calling the front desk on the intercom system was of no use because they cannot unlock the door remotely. Also checking in on the Hilton app does not grant you a virtual key until you check in at the front desk. So you cannot park your car or enter the hotel from a convenient entrance until you go around front and park in the valet space to go inside and register. It's a silly and frustrating exercise every time. However, usually the back door is not locked. Our room was very nice, but the AC didn't seem to cool very well we were both very warm and sweaty while trying to sleep in early April. The icing on the cake was House Keeping tapping on our door with a key card 2 1/2 hours before check out to see if they could come in while we were still sleeping and we had the do not disturb sign on the door. We were not amused. There is no ace machine on the second floor, so don't stay there if you want ice. In the back of the hotel, there was an electric scissor lift parked under the fire escape, prohibiting the stairs from coming down to the ground. I'm not a fire marshal, but I'm pretty sure that's a huge violation. However, both Richie and Tyler working at the front desk, were the bright spots of the stay along with Jennifer, the bartender in the Drum Room. Richie and Tyler apologized for the shortcomings and gave us some coupons to try to make things right. We appreciated the gesture. I flushed it down the toilet, then called the front desk to a manager about it. I talked with Mel. He offered to move us to another room, which would not have been as nice as our suite. I declined as I didn't want a downgrade in our room. I asked him to make sure that housekeeping did a thorough cleaning the next day. The next morning I stopped at the front desk and talked with Delaney about the cockroach, and other issues. The lounge breakfast was not kept up. It took over 30 minutes to restock the french toast.
