Intimate music venue with standing and seated options. The sound system works really well where instead of muffles, you can hear what the artist are saying. Gaining entry was smooth, there are two bars: one outside in the hallway and inside where the stage is located, a patio and a food vendor selling pizza by the slice.

I liked the Truman! It is a standing venue , but also has sitting options upstairs. It was easy to maneuver around and I would love to see another show here.

This is a good little and intimate venue where you can all be close to the stage and still have a great view.

Big dance floor, good sound system and lots of booze options. It's all about the booze at this venue and nowhere to sit. FUN PEOPLE Watching. Some people brought it and put their glitz and glam on! Glad I tried it once. Place cleared out at 12:01 am after an epic fail- the balloon waterfall did not happen at 12:00. LOL

The Truman opened about a year ago and they did several things right. The lighting and sound is good and there are clear sight lines to the stage. There is also several bars, large restroom areas and the merchandise area is not blocking an aisle. The space itself is an old warehouse or factory and has been cleaned up, but still retains character from it's previous life. There are a few things that could bring down the experience. There is no room to queue up for security checks inside, so purse checks and wand inspections are taking place outside on the sidewalk, so expect a probable line in the cold or rain before entering. There is also no seating options unless you are upstairs in the VIP balcony. The main floor is also on one flat level surface. I got there very early and staked out my space up front for a great experience, but I would have hated to be at the back of 1200 people with no tiered sections or sloping floor. The space fills a need for mid size shows that are two big for the Record Bar or Knuckleheads but not big enough for the Midland or Uptown Theaters - 4 unique venues that I love for a variety of reasons. The Truman appears to be in competition with The Madrid and Crossroads, so with that being the options; I think the The Truman wins hands down, although I would prefer to see a show at a smaller room or slightly larger venue with better options.

This is a five star entertainment venue. It's a nice wide and open room with good sight lines and top tier sound and lighting. There's a big bar on one side of the room and a smaller one across the way that make it easy to grab an adult beverage in between sets. There's even a smaller bar and a little outside patio if you want to step outside for a smoke or a breather. This venue is modern, comfortable and as good as it gets. It's a great place to see one of your favorite bands with around 1,000 of your closest friends.

Great, intimate venue! Seems like there's always a musician or group that I want to see coming up! I love that there are multiple bars, so waiting forever for a drink isn't a thing. Same goes for bathrooms. I can't wait to see more shows here!

Did you guys know you can rent this place out for a wedding or party? The price is reasonable. This venue is so beautiful and spacious and it was our first time visiting the Truman. My girl and I had a blast checking out the bars inside, seeing the green rooms and also the mezzanine. We explore some more and there's plenty of room for a dance floor and to have your tables for your guests, especially for a wedding party. They have a nice huge stage where you can have a band and also room for the bridge and groom party. I really enjoy this place and they have plenty of bathrooms so you don't have to worry about a line that much. Only con I see is probably parking. It can be a challenge but there's plenty of side parking around the area. Also, this place have like live concerts. I can't wait to check out their concert and review it next time.

brittany howard put on a fantastic show!! the truman has just ok acoustics, great personnel

Ask the Community - The Truman

Does anyone know if they have seating for disability (non-wheelchair)?

Hey Rosa! We do offer an ADA section at our space. Let our venue staff know you are looking for this section when you arrive and they will direct you to the proper seating.

Hi, I'm seeing Waterparks here in December and I was wondering if the A-List Loft upgrade is worth…

I believe early entrance depends on the show. I would double check with either the box office or the VIP person who sells the upgrade. Otherwise you will be in an elevated area with access to private restrooms and I believe a private bar.

They also have a décor closet with leftover centerpieces, sequin runners, etc. that you can use, which saved us a lot of money! The food is AMAZING. We went with a 3 protein buffet (rotisserie chicken, roast beef carving station, salmon) with salad, rolls, and 2 sides. It was AMAZING-- easily the best wedding food I've ever had. Another bonus with TTOG is that they offer two day-of coordinators, which I couldn't have appreciated more. A few weeks before the wedding, we met with Emad to set a timeline for the night so that everything moved along smoothly as the night progressed. I dropped all my decor off (and a list of the ones I wanted to use from their supply) the week of the wedding, and they do all of the set up and tear down for us! Everything looked perfect the night of. We don't have a single complaint about the venue, Emad or Maggie, or the bar/serving staff. If anything went wrong, Emad or Maggie took care of it and we didn't notice a thing! For the price, they offered a lot more than any other venues downtown that we looked at, and came in at our projected budget. I cannot say enough nice things about TTOG and would 100% recommend them to another couple.

We looked at over a dozen venues in the Kansas City area and just knew from the moment we walked in that this was THE space. It is truly a Kansas City gem with wood flooring, high beams with Edison bulbs, brick walls, and beautiful staircases. A huge standout for us was they only have one event per weekend, so we had the space from Friday (when we moved all of our necessities in) to 4:00 on Sunday ( when we moved back out). The wedding party truly enjoyed preparing with hair, make-up, and wardrobe on the gorgeous third floor, the cocktail hour was on the first level, and dinner and dance were on the second level. Everything was perfect. When you book the Oliver, you get the peace of mind of the owner Steve and the event coordinator Caitlin. We met with Caitlin on multiple occasions and she was amazing. They have a great bartending staff, parking attendants, and security guards, and a great working rapport with many local vendors. If I had to touch on any drawbacks, it would just be the gravel parking lots, which can be a bit of a challenge with ladies in heels or elderly persons. We were a little concerned with it being haunted house season but this was not an issue at all. Overall, we could not be more thrilled with our experience and I would give it more stars if I could! An absolute ten out of ten!

First of all, when the client contacted me and asked me to help with her daughter's wedding, I…read morereadily agreed. The Loose Mansion managers, Abbey and Loren, seemed to have an attitude issue. I wanted the wedding event to be just as memorable for the client as they... but they seemed to want to make things unnecessarily difficult. When I arrived at the scheduled time, neither Abbey nor Loren were there. No one else knew anything about any of the A/V equipment that Loose Mansion provides. Awhile later, Loren arrived. I introduced myself and was as pleasant as I could possibly be. Again, I received a "not so warm" reception. There was just a prevailing attitude of arrogance, entitlement and an unfriendliness. Because Loose Mansion was providing the video projector for the event, I asked Loren if we could plug my computer into the projector prior to the arrival of guests to make sure everything operated correctly. She told me that she probably wouldn't have time to allow me to test the hook-up because she was "so busy". I thought to myself "had you arrived at the time we had agreed upon, perhaps you would have had time to check important components like making sure the A/V would work." I was told that I would need to bring my own sound system and mics because they don't allow any "outsiders" to touch their equipment. So I came prepared with speakers, speaker stands, mixer, mics, and audio playback. As I was setting up the computer, I couldn't get the "Loose Mansion" WiFi network to work. I said something to Loren and she told me that I would have to connect to the "office network". The WiFi network was so ridiculously slow that no webpage would even load up. I thought that something must be wrong... so I connected to the network with my phone to check the speed there. Again, practically non-existent speed... so bad that nothing would work (see the screen caps from both my computer and my phone). I was afraid to say anything to Loren or ask her to reset her router for fear that I'd get another harsh response. So I just set up my own hotspot and used that. I finally did mention it to Loren and she said "Yes, it's very slow... we just tell people to download everything they need in advance." It seems ridiculous that a professional "event space" facility would have WiFi that is virtually of no use whatsoever. As the set-up for this very nice wedding event proceeded, I noticed that Loren was wearing a black skirt for the event, but with old green sneakers. I thought that she was just wearing these old green sneakers because they were comfortable during the set-up process, but surely she'd change into something more presentable for the wedding once guests started to arrive. Wrong! Later during the event, I overheard one guest mention her appearance to another guest... they were also surprised that management would allow an onsite manager to dress like this for a client's wedding event. They forgot to turn on the speakers for the ceremony, so if you were sitting in the room used for the ceremony, it sounded like all of the sound/music was coming from the room behind you (there were speakers in other rooms of the house). After the ceremony, as guests went for cocktails, we started to set up our gear for the after-dinner event. The "unused" Loose Mansion speakers were still sitting on the small stage... and when I asked Loren if we could move them aside so we could have room for our speakers, she said "No, we'll leave them right where they are!" Unbelievable! Another thing noticed was the fact that in order to lower the projection screen from the ceiling mount, Loren had to get a tall staffer who stood on top of a bucket or something and then used a plastic coat hanger to try to reach the bottom of the screen and pull it down. Tacky! My review is directed to other vendors/event planners. I've never had to deal with event space management who was NOT a team-player with the goal of wanting to create a stellar event by working TOGETHER with vendors. Instead, there was noticeable resistance. It's really too bad!

My wife and I were impressed and pleased with the professionalism of the staff and the preparation of the event space. The event manager, Loren, appeared to be everywhere and invisible at the same time, and the staff worked seamlessly with the outside vendors. Every guest that spoke to me about the venue mentioned how beautiful it is and how well everything ran. My wife and I also stayed in the Carriage House and that simplified and enhanced our experience. We love to take a morning walk, and the neighborhood was fun to explore too. One last item that I don't want to overlook is their process of event preparation. It seemed that every need, every eventuality, was anticipated and prepared for. On the front end, it seemed a little daunting, answering all those questions and choosing among so many options, but the payoff came at the reception. Everything ran smoothly and we were able to relax and enjoy our guests. The Loose Mansion team could not have been more thorough.

Little did I know that President Truman's political rise was deeply rooted in Kansas City--and facilitated by Tom Pendergast's sprawling web of influence, from concrete contracts to control of the police. It quickly becomes clear why they called it Tom's Town. I booked a tour at the last minute on a Saturday night, showed up 15 minutes early, and eased into the evening with a few sips of a perfectly made Old Fashioned--yes, you're allowed to bring it with you on the tour. From there, it was part distillery walkthrough, part Prohibition-era storytelling, and part generous spirits tasting. Our guide, Tony, was outstanding--enigmatic, passionate, and incredibly articulate. He brought the history to life without ever feeling rehearsed or dry. The dimly lit lounge rooms seal the deal, giving the entire place an authentic speakeasy vibe that feels both polished and transportive. If you're in Kansas City--even briefly--this is a must.
