Like most people I was reticent to discuss or even acknowledge anything regarding my mortality. My first foray began with an attorney specializing in "Living Trusts and Wills" recommended by a business associate. After waiting thirty minutes in his office lobby and handing over a $200 check as retainer I was schooled with "legalize" to the point of coercion. Then, come to find out "an attorney" was not the intelligent route for this matter I decided on searching for an alternate route and saving the $5000 dollars the attorney demanded to "begin the process". My husband put off doing a Family Trust for three reasons: 1) we were sure we were going to live forever, so we didn't need one; 2) we didn't want to spend the money (some of our friends ended up spending twice as much as they were quoted); 3) I wanted the inherited monies from my family to go to my children and my husband wanted his children to receive the inherited monies that came from his side of the family.
