Revised Trust Documents: We wanted to establish a trust for my husband and I needed to update my trust. We had previously contacted another firm by phone and was disappointed with their responses. We found Goldfarb & Luu and we were extremely impressed with the information they provided by phone. The employees who answered the phone answered our questions and were knowledgeable, and friendly. They walked us through the process and explained how we would work with the lawyers. We received a email with a video discussing the many issues we needed to include in our trusts. BEWARE!!! BEWARE!!!! BEWARE!!! Please read this review in its entirety if you are considering this firm to handle any estate planning documents or advocate for you in court. I consider this review to serve as public service announcement because I was introduced to this firm through a seminar with a nationally recognized public service, non-profit organization. My mother retained the services of this firm after hearing Rebecca's presentation at a trusted organization. She had one meeting with Rebecca to get the ball rolling & was introduced to Dinh because an internal meeting resulted in new options to advocate in court. After those initial meetings we never spoke with Rebecca or Dinh again. Care for Client: A few days later she gets an email from a new attorney Sarah. NO warm-hand off from Dinh, or a summary of Sarah's background. From the same firm that says you are a part of a "family". I think she deserved an explanation on why Dinh passed her off on Sarah when she proactively reached out to her to handle the court piece. Legal Documents: Legal agreement constructed by Sarah, contained instructions, I am assuming from a publisher,  and was sent to my mom. It read: "[It may be desirable to be more detailed in identifying the arbitration mechanism, or it may be preferable to preserve the option of jury or court trial for the client.]" my mom is the client. She's paying for legal expertise and you are sending her attorney instructions on how to complete the agreement. And, it was sent without a strategy meeting to discuss the pros and cons of using it. It was mentioned it as an option in passing. Billing Issues: Multiple payments were made to Dinh's business email address. Yet, two different employees who handled billing in the office did not credit them on the invoices. I emailed Dinh and she resolved the first issue. I requested a full accounting of the retainer funds 2x. Amelie in their office stated that we left their firm "because were unhappy with the court outcome" and the fees were earned because we had a draft of the trust. The trust could not be drafted until after the court modification. Services were terminated almost immediately after court & receipt of publisher instructions on a legal document. Court Representation: The court filings were redundant. Judge called that out in the hearing. On more than one occasion they were rushed. For example, Sarah would call around 1pm to notify me of an email for my mother to sign with the expectation to send it back within a few hours. I served as tech-support for my 82-year old mother at her request. Lastly, Sarah mentioned our judge was new to probate and unpredictable. Well, I looked her up. She went to Harvard Law, practiced in the area for 7+ years, Duke Undergrad,  been on the bench for 7 years, served as expert witness, and was accepted into ACTEC. Please google ACTEC. Distinguished organization for top practicing attorneys, with skill, writings, teachings, with aim to improve and reform probate, tax trust laws, procedures etc. Does any of that read "new" to you? In my opinion, Sarah told her that to lower the expectations and deflect from the fact that our case did not meet the burden for probate. How do I know this? The judge said so in the hearing.   Timing of Notices: Hearing Notices to opposing party were sent out 6 months prior to the hearing when 30 days is required. In my opinion, this gave them advance time to prepare a fight. Especially when they intentionally missed the hearing and did not have counsel to notify them. There is so much more to say but these sites do not allow for the room. But, it will be in other complaints to governing agencies. RUN!!! DO NOT WALK FROM THIS FIRM. My mother is 82-years old. She has me. A bull, so my mom will be okay. She chose new counsel. But, I felt compelled write this factual account to speak up because they work with seniors. Many of which  may not have a bull on speed dial. And they are actively marketing their services through non-profit, public advocacy organizations. I've spoken to other members of my group and they had complaints too. Ironically different and I have encouraged them to come forward too. read more

In every instance, we have been more than satisfied with the result. My wife and I are now in our '80s and looking at needed updates in our estate plan. However I hadn't received a response two days or a week later. I decided to leave message, I requested another consultation, also wrote a review expressing concerned disappointment. For the life of me, I don't know how this company had so many good reviews. Goldfarb & Luu in general have nice people working for them. There was only one time that nobody answered the phone. I am not happy with the scheduling and the non responses to a key question: why can't it update my trust and suggested that I start from scratch . I can't move forward with their 'comprehensive estate planning '. I settled my account and bailed out. When I got the invoice, I was a bit shock to see the billable, itemized expense. Some answer by Rebecca was charged 0.1 hour or $52.50. Other answered by a paralegal $29.50. 6 minutes costs $52.50 !!! 0.1 hour is the smallest unit so if it takes an attorney 1 minute to answer an email , it will still be $52.50 !!!! I went with a paralegal ( The Document People ) nearby. Getting to their office is a breeze. Parking is 5 steps behind their office. It was able to update my existing trust for $399.00, which is a fraction of cost of their ''comprehensive estate planning' for $5900.00. Before I went with the paralegal, I called 2 other trust attorneys suggested by Fidelity Investment. They all quoted $3500.00 to $6000 but I should be at the lower end because I don't own much. Obviously I went with the paralegal. I do want to thank you Rebecca and her team for their professionalism. After our estate planning attorney of over 30 years retired, it took me more than 18 months to find someone I felt actually cared about what my family was trying to accomplish. I interviewed seven estate planning firms before I found Goldfarb & Luu. The best most attorneys could offer was a standard fill in the blanks form with a few added provisions. Most of the attorneys I discussed our restatement with couldn't manage a Special Needs Trust we needed, or be bothered adding provisions for the care of our pets. A few attorneys gave what sounded like solid information to us, only to contradict themselves in our next conversation. It was a long search, but without the other firms to compare Goldfarb & Luu to I never would have appreciated what an extraordinary group of people they are or appreciated the amazing, very personal, services they offer. I was introduced to Goldfarb and Luu through a workshop regarding how to deal with my wife's Alzheimer's and the galloping dementia overtaking her. I was very much impressed with the presentation Rebecca made to our "Memory Matters" group. She, of course, addressed all the items I had thought of, but went way beyond the limits of my knowledge in addressing issues that never occurred to me. Since the attorney who had crafted our original trust had retired, I decided to engage Goldfarb and Luu to rewrite our trust and to advise me of all the complications attending my wife's impending incompetence. I realized how many things needed to be put into place while my wife was still competent to assent to them. When the work began, I was pleased to find that Dinh Luu was as insightful and compassionate as Rebecca. They both went beyond just the legalities to understand our personal and familial concerns and feelings. They were wonderful to work with, guiding me through the whole process. Ever available, I received rapid replies to my emails and phone calls. The teleconferencing was especially helpful as we tried to navigate the restrictions that the Covid pandemic had imposed on us. Positioned themselves as a full-service practice at a critical time when I was moving my mom from out of state to be better able to take care of her. Every one of their "specialists" knew nothing about their supposed subject area, except to refer me to other for pay professionals outside the practice. Then, when I would ask the questions the practice couldn't answer, they would tell me that that was something that the practice should have been able to answer for me. Literally got more value out of the utterly free services from the retirement community center around the corner from my apartment. Also blew through $600 of the $1,000 retainer and literally produced nothing of any substance. And had the gall to tell me that the complete, straightforward, out of state estate documents I had and just needed to be brought into compliance with California law would have to be completely redone from scratch because of one missing addendum of absolutely no consequence. When my husband passed away unexpectedly, I discovered I was left with a incredible mess.
