What an absolutely beautiful experience. I am so enamored by how this wonderful hospital truly does everything they can to help these ethereal creatures. Karl was our tour guide and he took his time to educate us on the types of turtles native to Florida. He also explained all the things that have been affecting the livelihood of these mysterious animals. Pollution and boating accidents resulting in various illnesses and injuries to sea turtles. This turtle hospital is doing incredible things and I am so happy to have been able to experience the various animals they have housed there during their hospital stay. They do offer adoption of some of their turtles for 35/annually non renewing and I did adopt "Rebel". This is experience was once in a lifetime. read more

AMAZING. this was a life changing experience. first off, you start with a very informational program where a very nice instructor tells you about every turtle, what sends turtles to the hospital, and how to prevent it. then the show you the hospital rooms like the surgery room or the mri room. they then inform you on what to expect when we view the turtles. the turtles are SO COOL! they love to interact and they and so sweet. you then get to feed them and learn more about them. this is a great experience for all ages and truly helps you learn about turtle health and protection. This was such an amazing visit! I am so glad that we made the time to stop here. I have see it before but never gotten the chance to actually experience it. I love that it is a non profit and everything goes to the hospital and those cute little bubble butt turtles. I was worried this would be geared towards kids, but not at all. I thought everything was very informative and more than anything, eye opening. There was an education session at the beginning which really was informative and I learned a lot of new things. You then move on to actually see and visit with the turtles. I loved the chance to really get up close and personal with them. The staff is great about answering all of your questions and really educating you about their patients. Make sure to check out their gift shop. They have some really cute memorabilia and again proceeds go towards the hospital. read more

The turtle hospital was very informative and fun experience. The cost of 35 dollars a person goes to the hospital as this is a volunteer hospital. The only thing that I could mention being improved is the area which you pay. It is small and very crowded at some times but from what I understand, most of the people are just volunteering. Please support the great work they do at the turtle hospital. They rescue all kinds of sea turtles and are able to return half of them back to the wild. The ones that remain are taken care of in great luxury. The tour was very informative and it was great to see everything up close. We even got to see a surgery on a turtle having tumors removed from eating too much pollution. The cost is reasonable and you can adopt a turtle for a year and really make a difference. The people at the turtle hospital do an incredible job caring for turtles!!! The tour was about 75 minutes which was enough time to learn about different types of turtles and the problems they run into because of us. We saw lots and lots of turtles, including babies and the long time residents. It was a really hot day and we went at 2 - I would definitely suggest going earlier in the day!! Otherwise bring cold water! They do have cooling mist and fans that help with the heat. My youngest enjoyed feeding the turtles towards the end of the tour. The price for the tour was a bit expensive, but the money they collect helps to support the business and the care of these creatures, so glad for that. read more

A must-visit educational experience while in the Keys! The tour is 90 minutes and it essentially has three parts. The guide talks about the different species of turtles and risks to their lives and habitats. The turtle operating room was interesting as well. Then, we got to see some turtles up close and our guide explained how they were being rehabilitated. The last part featured a feeding of turtles who had "bubble butt" syndrome who couldn't be released back into the wild. Sign up for tours in advance on their website. Once you do, sign the waiver online as well so you won't have to do this when you get there. Just like all of Monroe County, masks need to be worn during the tour whether you're inside or outside. The time spent outside was mostly shaded so not too hot. Well worth the time and 100% of the the proceeds go back to the organization. read more

This place was so cool! Not only the education piece, the turtle Shells, Skeltons, and products they have had donated to them as museum pieces, the hospital itself where you can watch live check ups and surgeries, but also the grounds and where they keep their titles is immaculate and clean. Loved learning about the history of the place and the owner/creator of it. We also were able to feed the turtles, and we couldn't decide because they're all so cute we adopted all of them. It's really interesting to learn about the hospital and what they do to rehabilitate the sick and hurt turtles. Amazing work. Our guide was okay but oddly disagreed with some things on the introductory slideshow--really weird she went so off message. But she was a volunteer, not an employee, I guess. The traffic pattern for checking in and leaving is a mess on a busy day, as the "gift shop" seems to be behind the counter. They'd make a lot more money if they had a dedicated gift space. I was also surprised there wasn't more opportunities to support the hospital--little to no information about giving, etc. read more

On our way down to Key West, we weren't able to stop at The Turtle Hospital on Marathon Key, but after Dry Tortugas, we were able to stop and we were so glad we could. The whole family went and learned so much about the different types of sea turtles (and some facts about iguanas, too). Our tour guide was fabulous and answered all of our questions and had so much to share. There was even time to feed the turtles at the end. We were happy to fund the not-for-profit Turtle Hospital through our admission and shopping spree in the gift shop. Very interesting tour of a worthwhile organization, and a chance to see animals up close that one rarely gets a chance to see at all under normal circumstances. The tour is a bit longer than necessary at 90 minutes -- I didn't feel the need to be introduced to each and every turtle by name -- although I understand their strategy in doing so. (They want you to "adopt" one and make regular contributions.) This activity is probably most enjoyed by children, although it is aimed more at adults, since they're the ones who contribute the money. read more

Learned so much! Really a cool place and the whole idea behind it was inspiring and fascinating. Wish we could have done more hands on stuff but obviously it's understandable that its not an option as these animals are in the process of healing. But we were able to get up close with them and we were able to feed some of the turtles by dropping food in a watching them all go for it . We also got to see the turtle operating room and radiology area. All the money goes to the hospital to keep this program going and im beyond thankful there is a place like this . read more

At first I thought $30/per adult was a bit high for 90 minutes presentation , once you go through the doors you realize how your dollars are at work . Friendly staff, nice gift shop with lots of turtle souvenirs and gifts . Bought tickets online and filled out the liability waiver online . Makes the process much quicker. Get in line, pay outside for debit/ credit. Inside for cash. I highly recommend going early in the morning before it gets hot because a portion of tour is outside . Cecelia was our guide. She mentioned she talks really fast and to let her know. Maybe no one wanted to be rude and tell her but she was so high strung talking, throwing little jokes in , I don't think people got to hear them , it went so fast. I asked her a few questions , she didn't seem to know the answer or it wasn't explained well ( too fast) Very educational though and we left knowing a lot about the turtles during the sit down part. If you're on the fence about this, DO IT. Our guide, forget her name (Mary Elizabeth maybe?) was so pleasant and knowledgeable. We learned so much about sea turtles and had a blast observing and feeding the turtles. Be aware only part of the tour is indoors. My granma and dad were with us and they struggle with the heat. Our guide gave them a ride on the golf cart to the observation pools. They provide free cool bottled water for all and gave my dad an ice pack and place to sit in the shade when he started getting river heated. This a wonderful educational and fun tour. read more

We had no idea this place existed, and are really glad we were able to visit. The starts with a 20 minute presentation, learning about turtles and what the hospital does, which then proceeds to walking the grounds and getting to see the turtles that they currently have at their facilities. Our only complaint really is that the parking lot is WAY TOO SMALL and will not fit vehicles for all the people coming for the tours which run every 30 minutes. So go early, and plan on having to find parking elsewhere. read more

What a fun place for the whole family! I actually have been going to Marathon for awhile now with my family and decided this time to stop by this little turtle hospital! What a neat experience for people of all ages. Would recommend making reservations- when I stopped by I had 3 people in my party and most of the tours were full. The staff was great and helped us find a time that worked for us. We stopped by later that day with no problems! Entry is 25 dollars but the money goes back to the hospital so definitely worth it. Such a cool experience, you really get to be up close and personal with turtles of all sizes and breeds. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and willing to answer all the groups questions. On the way out don't forget to stop by the gift shop! They have some pretty cool things, I grabbed myself a t shirt as well as an Christmas ornament and even a fun little finger puppet turtle! read more

This was absolutely my favorite thing I have done on my vacation. Nothing could top this...but I love Sea Turtles....I'm that girl bawling my eyes at the sloth except for sea turtles instead! An adorable Hospital to help rehabilitate and rescue Sea Turtles. They offer a phenomenal educational tour with information on Ssea turtles and the hospital itself. You get to tour the hospital and then go meet and greet the residents/patients while learning about their conditions and how they are being treated. I loved our guide; clearly she loves her job and wants everyone there to know about the turtles and how we can further help them. We were lucky to get there on a day when multiple rescues came in to the hospital....getting to see them brought in was so...feel good. Who doesn't love hearing the stories about rescue turtles. What a wonderful job they do! We signed up in the morning for an afternoon tour and it wasn't a problem. The price might be a little high but they are doing great work. Our tour guide was Sarah and she was informative and funny. We started with a slide show and information and then onto seeing the turtles. We were offered a bottle of water since the holding tanks are outside. I feel like I could write a full on ode to how much I love the Turtle Hospital. My best friend lives in Key West so I've been down a few times and have basically seen and done most everything that can be done down there, so on my most recent visit when she had to work and I had to entertain myself and the forecast called for rain, I figured a return trip to the Turtle Hospital was the perfect way to spend the day. Of course, the rain never materialized, so instead I got to enjoy a spectacular drive with the windows down and an afternoon visiting with all the adorable turtles. The staff here is very friendly and knowledgeable and it's just so clear that this place is a labor of love. The whole thing is on the footprint of an old 1950's style drive-up motel that's been converted to this fabulous one-of-a-kind rescue. You'll get to be pretty up close and personal to the turtles that are on site and see them as they are rehabbed. You never know what kinds of turtles will be there and this time I got to see quite a few that I hadn't seen before. It's such a necessary reminder of the impact we humans have and to be more conscious and it's both heart-breaking and re-affirming. This was one of the highlights of my trip to Florida! They do tours every 30 minutes so we didn't have to wait long for the next one. First part is a PowerPoint that talks about the different types of turtles and what type of work they do there. Our host talked about personal experiences with certain turtles and that was nice to hear about their stories. After that, we saw the rehabbed turtles where you're not allowed to even touch the enclosure due to the viruses that some carried. Btw, you're not allowed to touch any of their turtles which I don't mind knowing that they can carry salmonella. After that, you go to another area where you can feed some of the turtles and that was a lot of fun! There was also some baby turtles which were super cute.
