Went to get a leash for my dog Yoshi out of the blue and was a tad skeptical because of reading the reviews but I reckoned that I'd leave it to my experience and I was delightfully thrilled with how nice and cooperative the two ladies were I was speaking mostly with the lady that has black hair and she was very great and walked up to me whilst I was searching for a collar and proceeded to show me some and agreed with the one I had picked because of how it functioned and after they fitted it on for him and made sure it worked before I walked out and lastly I was given my receipt and told to keep it if anything happened which is always great So overall don't listen to reviews all the time and experience things with an open mind and sometimes you'll end up surprised read more

Waltons is an excellent place very loving to their pets !! I would recommend them to anyone .. I have an amazing Macaw from the lovely ladies there that hand raised him !!! I read a really bad review about a parrot about three months ago was posted and the parrot was plucking!!! The reason that parrot was plucking is because I bought her best friend and she got depressed and that was birds do when you take away a best friend!!! They are very loving to the animals in the pet store !!! My baby is amazing and thought about getting his best friend too but after vacation maybe !!! Animal abuse! I've been going to Here for the last few years and for a while I worked a few doors down so on my breaks I would go visit the animals. The parrot named Spock seems like he doesn't get enough attention/interaction/mental stimulation sitting in a window. He paces back and forth like you see in those zoo animal videos. I now order online or wait until I'm in key west and can stop by dog 30 who don't sell animals. The parrot you see in the Photo became bonded with another parrot whaltons was selling alongside her. One day I said "I'm so scared that you will sell these two separate!". And that's what they did because let's face it $ is the first priority not the animals happiness. In this photo the bird has been alone for close to a month at least. Shes been tearing at her feathers since they sold her friend. But still she doesn't look happy. The very last time I was in Walton's which is when I took this photo I saiid to the bird "you poor bird it's going to be OK" and the lady with a mullet obviously got upset and Loudly said "don't say that to her. She'll be fine. Shes eating and starting to get over it. " and I politely said "I still feel sorry for her and wish she would have been sold as a pair with the other one. She didn't deserve to go though that." Still with an an angry attitude the mullet woman then said something like "well don't say that to her. she's fine." At this point my husband looks at me because were both pretty amazed that she is being this rude. The last thing I said to that woman was "I feel the way I feel, We disagree end of story." She kept on going on and on while ringing us up at the register and I just tuned her out. There were two other people in the store watching this happen who also said to me they felt bad for the parrot. I'm an adopt don't shop kinda person. The owner was very rude when my family and I went in to look at birds. She shouted at us in a rude tone saying to not touch her bird when we had no intention in doing so and we we didn't even have our hand out or anything. We were just watching the bird and she had such a bad attitude for no reason. Definitely will not be coming back ever. I don't know how that place does business with an owner like that... read more

What a horrible experience The 2 women working were so rude. We drive up from key west with the intention of making a large purchase. As soon as we entered to store we were made uncomfortable. We purchased a few fish and quickly left the store. First time I was ever glad to give my business to Amazon rather than a local shop. Frankly I wonder how the business survives. Sandi the manager is RUDE RUDE RUDE!! My husband and I went in to the store and we were greeted with a nice lady who encouraged us to hold the birds. We have farm, so we have many birds and other animals. We even own a blue macaw. We KNOW how to handle birds. We were in the market to buy another one. She not only YELLED at her employee working that day she YELLED at us telling us to put the birds down. We had every intention on making a purchase big or small that day, but we couldn't run out of there fast enough. The owner, Susan, has the absolute worst attitude ever. I asked politely about petting a bird (because I'm interested in buying a bird but I want the bird to choose me, so I've been patiently waiting for the right one.) and she immediately had an attitude and completely turned me off. Her tone was so rude, that it actually made me tear up in the store and made me feel so uncomfortable. I got what I needed, and will NEVER be returning. I am also a local business owner in the pet industry and I will never recommend this store. I don't recommend this pet store if you plan on buying fish. DO NOT DO IT! I have four freshwater fish tanks that I've had for a couple of years. I'm no professional but I've done my research and I know how to keep my fish alive and how to medicate them so any sick fish survive. I first started buying bettas there when I saw how many sick fish they have. Have, not had! I medicated them with some very simple remedies. They survived and went to new homes. Over months of going in there (at least once a week) I noticed how quickly the fish died after getting new ones, only days after. A lot of them had fungus or swim bladder. After communicating with some of the staff it appeared only one person really cared and was interested in learning what to do and what not to do. I do believe it would get better if the other ladies would take advise and try to save their fish. I try to share my knowledge of responsible fish keeping. Nothing ever changes. There's one lady working there that makes it very obvious that she thinks she knows everything and doesn't need advise. Obviously she does! They have zero bettas now because of their lack of knowledge or their will to learn how to care for fish. I walked into the shop today and it reeked of dollar store bleach! From what I could see they are pouring bleach into the filters to "clean" them! The tank water is being changed too often therefore leaving no good bacteria in the water for the fish to thrive. They have no live plants in any of the tanks which some species need to thrive and not be stressed. Stress will easily kill the fish if the bleach doesn't kill them first! Most of the ladies that work there only care about keeping the birds alive. It appears that the birds they keep are the only thing that matters. Everything is way overpriced as well. I've seen the staff be very rude to one lady that tries to take care of the fish but she's obviously enabled to do so. It makes me very sad to see this happen in a local pet store. After all of this that's been going on for so long I've decided to order everything, including fish, online. I will no longer spend money in this pet store that kills pets. The heavy set lady behind the counter would not know how to have a civil conversation with a customer. Been there 3 times since it is the only choice for a pet store for many miles, tried to have a pleasant exchange with her about the birds. What a grouchy, mean-spirited woman. Great little mom and pop pet shop if you already have an animal. Bonus points for not carrying puppy mill cats and dogs. DOUBLE bonus points for the care and love they show their great array of parrots. I've never seen such happy, sociable birds, and I make it a point to travel to pet shops all over when I travel to see the different animals offered (I live where many pets others can get are illegal). The staff was happy to have us interact with the parrots, knowing we wouldn't buy. One of the highlights of the keys for us. I bought my parrot from them 6 yrs ago and we always go back to get his wings and nails trimmed there. He was hand raised by them and he is the sweetest Bird. There parrot food is always fresh and they have tons of Bird toys to choose from. All the employee's seem like family and always so helpful. I have been utilizing the varied services of Whalton's for over 5 years now. A resident of Big Pine, I now drive to Marathon to see them as their Big Pine store has closed. THERE ARE SIMPLY NO BETTER KNOWLEDGEABLE BIRD PEOPLE in the Keys.... Period!! Sandi and the crew all included. I acquired my Cockatoo, Charlie, four years ago. My first bird, I knew nothing and he was only six months old. Sandi's steady stream of guidance surpassed that of my Avian Vet that I had used. I regularly use them for trimming and boarding. Charlie likes being there as there are so many feathered pals in the shop. If you are looking to buy a bird, they nurse their own right there and every bird I have seen come out of there seems calm and socialized. And for dogs? I have two of them and Terri there is super with them. I use her for in house dog sitting when I am out of town. The whole staff is great. I have met the owner and have been impressed with his commitment to the store and his staff, all of whom have worked for him a long time. This is a completely unsolicited review .
