Five colleagues and I, at the end of an amazing week at a work conference, we're in desperate need…read moreof some food. Getting in a little late to go to London, we turned our attention to something close to the Gatwick airport. After finally sorting our Uber rides, we were off to The Farmhouse. First impressions were of a traditional British pub experience, which was a good start. Our clumsiness of grabbing a table and figuring out whether we needed to go to the bar to order or wait to be served, surely gave us away as "not locals." Our server was friendly and provided us with our menus and took our drinks order. The one shortfall was that the menu had a number of items not available and with an assist from a customer, two of us needed a rethink on their meal. In all, it was 4 Fish & Chips, One Farmhouse Burger, and a Battered Halloumi burger, plus an order of calamari, and 4 tomato and garlic soups. There were zero plates taken off the table that were not empty! I had the Halloumi burger, which had a great, crispy batter topped with some guacamole mayo with a red sauce on the side. Really good. Then we doubled down and hit the dessert menu! Two warm chocolate brownies with salted caramel ice cream and four plum tarts. We asked for some custard on the side because who doesn't like custard?! Save for the debate about whether it was more a pie than a tart, another set of empty plates were the only evidence left. Would definitely recommend The Farmhouse!

We also go the Camembert, olives, and some ciders. This was definitely worth the effort to leave the airport, get an Uber, and then return to the airport. Cute place with good food.

Oh yeah! Americans…read morefrom California here. Who would've known that mashed potatoes, sausages, and gravy would go so well together! Loved every bite. Got the gravy on the side, didn't think I'd use all of it, before I knew it, it was all gone. And you wouldn't think that the type of mash or type of gravy or type of sausage would matter that much, but they really do all have distinct flavors! I will be mixing mustard into my mashed potatoes from now on. Originally came for the sticky toffee pudding, so of course we ended with that. Marvelous! The toffee sauce is so comforting and rich, the cake was so moist, and it was perfectly balanced with the ice cream. Didn't detect any dates, maybe they were too finely chopped. Also the apple and blackberry crumble just didn't hit the same; it was slightly dry and on the sour side (maybe don't take a bite directly after the pudding!) Service was so helpful and friendly; I'm sure they love watching people fall in love with their food. Quick with refills and offered extra condiments if needed. Great air conditioning as well (always a plus), and I loved the green blacksplash and blackboard caligraphy on the walls as well. Bangin'

Ultimate London comfort food!…read more On a Saturday night around 7:30PM, the wait for a party of five was 45 minutes. The food was well worth the wait. The Steak and Blackheart Stout Pie was delicious. The steak was tender and the mash was smooth. Definitely get the Sticky Toffee Pudding. The pudding was sweet, soft, and warm, pairing perfectly with the silky pudding and cold vanilla ice cream.

While in London, I booked a pre-show dinner at the Wolseley in Piccadilly. I had heard about it on…read moresome foodie shows and got good referrals from people who had eaten there. When we arrived we were greeted immediately and checked in. We were early and needed to come back, however when we did, the hostess recognized me and greeted me by name - super attentive. We were seated right on schedule. We were not disappointed by the architecture, atmosphere, vibe, and excellent service (Deyana). The food selection was excellent, and we sampled many! The pictures attached are good, but the real thing, even better. I felt the prices were good value for money and the location easy to get to. Overall we had a great evening and would definitely recommend it. Please make a reservation ahead so you don't miss the chance to dine here.

This is going to be an unpopular opinion, but I really didn't love my experience at The Wolseley…read more It's overpriced for Afternoon Tea, and not even that special. While the overall look of the restaurant is beautiful with all the black and white flooring and gold-trimmed accents along the doors and walls, it is just a loud spot filled with tourists. The Afternoon Tea did include ample food, but scones and fingers sandwiches and cakes are not my favorites. Also, the tea selection is fine, but not very robust. I was hoping for a good mint tea, and asked for Earl Grey, but they brought me Afternoon Break instead. I didn't complain because honestly service was so slow and it took forever to get the attention of a waiter. I will say they let us linger with a glass of champagne beyond the 90 minute rule, so we were able to kill some extra time at our table before a theater show nearby. But overall, I'd skip this and get high tea somewhere else.
