A few years ago I visited The Ugly Mutt for the first time and was not impressed by the service and the food. You would get stares by both staff and customers if you weren't a regular. But as time has gone on, I can happily say that everything has gotten a lot better! The food taste good and it's a good portion for the size. The inside of the place is dark and the decor does give off dive bar vibes, but it doesn't smell like one so that's a huge plus. My only thing is that I wish they had a cocktail menu. They do have a full bar so they can make almost anything you ask for, but it would be cool if they had like a special ugly mutt signature cocktail read more

The Mutt is an amazing hangout with great food. You really can't go wrong with any of the sandwiches or entrees. Service is very friendly. They have basic beers on tap. Would like to see some more variety, but that is minor. They generally have Golden Monkey and that's good enough for me. read more

The Ugly Mutt is a diamond in the rough. It looks like a dive bar but it is much more than meets the eye. I have been supporting this local business by eating here almost every week for over five years. I have never had a bad meal here in all of the time. The staff are friendly and helpful. They remember regulars and people that haven't been there in a year. The wings and the ribs are to die for. Whether you are in the mood for Buffalo Chicken Salad or a Cheesesteak, they have you covered. Overall, excellent food, incredible service, and great staff. read more

OK, my prior review was based on visiting a couple times to the bar and overall visit. This one is about the food. After a handful of visits over the last year, a one star review is generous. A recent trip had me and my buddies just looking for a good bar burger. The waitress, again way over her head, tells us after our orders get placed, "the food is going to come out fast cause the cook is trying to close up the kitchen." Great, just great...just what I want to hear as a customer. The food was AWFUL. How do you screw up nachos and a burger and fries? The Yellow Dog has mastered it. The nachos.. a giant heap of tasteless ingredients. Literally, everything poured or dumped on top of bland nacho chips, and zapped in the micro for a minute. The burgers were an absolute disgrace. Tasteless patties, bacon on one burger that looked like it was on the grill since yesterday, fries that were obviously a couple hours old... COME ON... why wouldn't you cook a burger at LEAST as good as you would make it for yourself? Return visit in the future? No way. read more

My husband and I went for dinner last night some of the reviews had me a bit skeptical on the service and food. However the place was great. It is not a large bar and the seating area for meals is quite small. The place was by no means packed and the server was quite attentive. I have the buffalo chicken salad with grilled chicken and it was really good it was huge. I would certainly order it again. My husband had the cheesesteak with fries and really enjoyed that as well. I had one of their winters Special drinks which was hard apple cider with apple pucker and the drink was delicious. It was a little pricey, two of them cost me $15 but they were really good so I thought it was worth it. To be honest, its a dive bar that caters to the locals. Food is really hit or miss. Visited three times in a three month period, it is just not worth it unless you want flat draft beer. We had dinner here on a whim. It was after an Eagles game so our waitress was winding down after being pretty busy. It seemed like there was only one waitress for the whole place so with that in mind, she did a nice job. My husband and I shared wings (bbq and hot). The wings themselves were on the smaller side and they had a good bit of sauce on them. I had the French onion burger, which was great! I'm not one to complain but the service was rather poor. It was obvious that filling my drink and checking on my food order was not a priority (the place is small so there is no reason for this other then staff laziness). I hate to be critical but the blonde bar tender on duty was rather unhygienic (it was a Monday night). To be honest she smelled of beef and cheese. I hope this was only an isolated incident, but I can't be sure. Even though smoking is only allowed outside, it was blowing in the door and made it hard to enjoy my meal as I am not a smoker. The food was cold and it took a while for the waitress to acknowledge it needed to be sent back. Not big on the crowd as it's local kids that hang out smoking outside and being loud at the bar but otherwise the beer selection is good and food is tasty simple American food. I got a honey mustard chicken wrap that was very tasty and the fries were cooked perfectly. Service is slow at times and if I know it's a more busy time I avoid it to avoid the "townies" that congregate at their watering hole. Ok....for a bar. They have a decent beer selection both bottles and draft. The crowd is mostly local workers who hang out here instead of being at work doing construction or landscaping. Decent size bar with a few high tops, a small section of booths, and a few picnic benches outside. The servers were friendly. Our food was ok, but we only had sandwiches. I would be more comfortable hanging out here drinking than going here for the food, but we gave it a try and it was not bad. They have some unusual items on the menu, but it is mostly pub food. Prior to dining at the Ugly Mutt, I never truly knew what the word "bland" meant. Sure, I'd heard Gordan Ramsey toss it around while smashing trays of undercooked salmon on Hell's Kitchen, but I'm someone who uses salt and pepper liberally during my own kitchen chefscapades - bland food never crossed my lips. Until now. My husband and I decided to sneak in a quick meal while our daughter was at sports practice about 10 minutes away. We pulled up on a Wednesday night at approximately 6:15 pm. I was a bit worried it was more pub than restaurant, so I checked out the dining area through the window. Saw a few empty tables and a couple of kids, so in we went. Let me just say - the target customer for this bar is clearly the early-to-mid 30s single based on the constant blare of Pearl Jam, Bush, Crash Test Dummies, and countless other 90s alternative rock music in the "background." Lucky for them, I grew up on HFS so I was more than down. We were seated and the waitress arrived quickly. We ordered drinks and no surprise here - the crab dip appetizer. The drinks came quickly and already we were digging the atmosphere. About 10 minutes later, we flagged down our waitress and let her know we were ready to order. My husband decided on the chicken quesadilla, myself - the Ugly Mutt burger because it sounded AMAZING. Angus burger with fried onions, mushrooms, bacon, mozzarella cheese, onion rings, cole slaw and honey mustard. With toppings like those, how could you possibly go wrong? I was amazed at some of the other selections. We decided that if the food delivered, the Ugly Mutt would be our new go-to restaurant. The crab dip took so long to come out of the kitchen, I began to wonder if we were ever going to get it at all. Our glasses sat empty on the table as we watched diners come and go, dipless. Finally it arrived. The actual dip was a solid 7 out of 10. Cooked to perfection, cheesy and seasoned well. It was served with a small handful of untoasted, cut up pita bread. Not the best dip vessel by far. So far, it was still 50/50 whether this would become our regular watering hole. That was where the deliciousness ended for the evening. Our meal was served by another waitress who was more competant and helpful in the 2 minutes she ran our food to us than our actual waitress was the entire hour and a half we were there. I am still a bit shell shocked over just how bland my meal was. I took 4 bites of my burger - the first one I was really excited about, the second one cause I couldn't recall what - if anything - the first bite tasted like, the third one to make sure there definitely was no flavor and the fourth.. well, the fourth bite was wishful thinking. I was done after that. I had no more desire to eat any more of the burger. It wasn't disgusting. It wasn't delicious. It was nothing. It was MIND BLOWINGLY BLAND. To this day I can't comprehend how I could possibly have been eating nothing. I couldn't taste a single ingredient - not the beef, not the cheese, not the mushrooms - not even the honey mustard. It was surreal. And I wasn't alone. My husband ate about half of his quesadilla before offering me the rest (something he never does) because it was bland and he just didn't want to finish it (also something he never does.) I took a bite and surprisingly enough, I couldn't tell the difference between his chicken quesadilla and my loaded burger. So my experience I'm sharing is two fold. Both bad of course. Prior to yesterday, I believed in second chances. Unfortunately, the worst bar manager EVER Mike brought my memory back. Last night at the mutt, my friend and I were having a couple of beers and seated next to him was an obviously over intoxicated patron who should've been flagged hours prior. He continually poked my friend for whatever and couldn't figure out his $14 tab. At one point he was literally passed out with his head on the bar. When the bartender woke him up he progressed into a somewhat violent state. Bad idea as my buddy is a former mma competitor. Here's where idiot Mike comes into play, I got his attention and informed him of the situation and his response was "are you threatening him?" They moved the guy and then Mike proceeded to scream at the bartender right in front of everyone. Classless to say the least. I made an attempt to discuss my prior visit here where I took my family there in the summer. July, 100 degrees outside and I was wearing a tank top, Mike jumped in my face and said sorry we can't seat your party because of your shirt. Simple economics here people, hand the guy a three dollar t-shirt (that they sell) and cash in on the $150 minimum tab. After bringing that up and my buddy calling Mike a racial slur (I'm an honest guy) we were both banned for life!! Oh dam!!! Please no!! The food is to die for...... or die from! Hopefully the owner reads this and all the other negative reviews and fires Mike before his bar is closed. By the way, the food sucks. Dollar store nachos don't fool anyone. First experience - I called at 10:50 PM to see what time the kitchen closed. Bartender said 11 PM and asked if I wanted to order something to go. I asked if I could order it and eat it there. She said, "sure!" it would be ready in 15 minutes. When I walked in, there was two guys playing an acoustic set. I sat at the bar and right when I sat down, my food came out. I was really happy with my food! Bartender checked on me a few times to make sure I was good. I liked it so much, we ordered three meals the next night to go. Ive been here a few times while passing through Oxford. We would normally go to the Hotel around the corner buts since it caught fire the Mutt will have to do. I have not eaten here. I have only had drinks at the bar. They have a nice beer selection, and so I come back. The staff is very relaxed. (Perhaps too relaxed) they all seem to be very comfy in their yoga pants. Last weekend our bartender poured the worse Guinness. We had to ask for out beer as she forgot about it while doing a bunch of other things to set up her bar. She attempted to wipe the bar in front of us but there were still crumbs everywhere. She left the sanitizer bottle on the bar for a really long time before she realized she should probably put it away. I'd like to see this place succeed. I hope to one day be comfortable enough to actually eat there.... Until then I'll stick to just having drinks. read more

Probably one if the worst dining experiences I've ever had. There were only a few tables full, place was mostly empty, so the exceptionally slow service was not justified. 10 minutes just to have someone come over and take or drink order. Should have known what we were in for when the we saw the menus... filthy and tattered. We had nachos, a soup and Guinness stew. The nachos had little meat or cheese, mostly lettuce on them. They had been sitting, the meat and cheese that were on it were cold. We asked for extra cheese and got plenty... after we were done the nachos. The tomato soup was nothing more than a can of Campbell's. The huge gray hair in it was a nice touch. The Guinness stew... disgusting. Pretty sure it was a can of beef broth with some carrots and potatoes and scrap meat dumped in... The meat was fatty and not fried in flour. There was a huge amount of oregano in it... uhhhh... I've had a lot of Guinness stew, and never has it had oregano in it. Obviously the cook has never had it to know what it's supposed to taste like. Avoid this place at all costs, unless you're just going to drink beer. read more

Food is good but bartenders need training in their social skills. Went there Sunday October 1st 4:00 to watch the Eagles game and a sandwich. There was only about seven other people in the bar at the time. We asked the bartender for water and two beers. When the water didn't come after asking two times we asked a third time.
