I found out about it because my contact in the UK notified me that the package never arrived as scheduled. The manager had no explanation, the owner would not respond to my calls. AVOID and DO NOT USE THE UPS store 5000 in Gainesville..Go to another UPS store or use Fed EX, however avoid this one. I see a number of customers had the same problem I did using this particular UPS store 5000 in Gainesville VA. I exclusively used this UPS store in Gainesville since 2012. The service was always excellent and it had been managed by a terrific manager named Adam. When Adam left, the customer service immediately started to suffer. The new manager is clearly un-educated, and seriously incompetent . I too paid for a next day guarantee package overnight, costing around $150.00, and it arrived 3days later. I contacted UPS at their customer service number and they advised the store was supposed to provide the refund, at least for the overnight cost since the package did not arrive as agreed. I paid extra for my package to be packed in a box which I frequently did.. I left the store at 5pm and the last pick-up from UPS was at 7pm. This store never put my shipment in a box. I noticed the person at the register put my package on the floor and walked away after the transaction. I should've listened to my gut feeling and retrieved my package and asked for a refund.. there was no sense of urgency in packing items slated for next day delivery.. Because they did not package my item in time, my package wasn't picked up by 7pm to arrive next day to its destination. The next day, I checked the tracking after work thinking my package had been delivered , and the tracking message still said "label created" ...which was from the day before. My package was still in that store, on the floor the day it was supposed to arrive at its destination. I saw the manager sitting and eating behind the register at the time I dropped off my package, however with the un-professional demeanor I witnessed, I would have never guessed that person was the manager. The former manager, Adam was educated, competent and customer service oriented. This UPS store knew my package would not arrive the next day, however I was still charged for next day delivery. If the staff is unable to ensure to customers that their package won't be boxed in enough time for UPS's last pick-up by 7pm, they should be honest and tell the customer instead of charging them for next day delivery.. P.S. If your shipment has to get there the next day and your item has to be boxed, make sure the staff pack your item in front of you, seal it, put the label on. Don't walk out and let them throw your package in a corner and walk away. UPDATE: To the Store owners response to my review below, I have no clue as to why the owner is responding that the police were called. No one called the police while I was at your UPS store. And if you are the owner responding, you were not in the store to see me attempting to speak to your manager or witness their behavior. Clearly you have me mixed up with another unhappy customer where you did call the police and they came in to physically confront the customer in your store .. I do not argue publicly with anyone for the police to be called. And if this is how you respond to an unhappy customer that had patronized your business since 2012, I clearly see why you are receiving negative reviews. I needed to send back an item purchased from Amazon so I dropped by my local UPS store on my way home. Process was easy peasy, they scanned my return code on my phone took the item from me and done. They packaged it up and sent it back no fuss no muss. I got my refund the next day. I should mention this was around 4:30 on a weekday - there were two people working, one helping a customer already but both looked up and greeted me as I walked in and the unoccupied person waved me right over. UPS Store is a fine establishment, I have had issues with some of their services. I paid over 100 dollars for overnight guaranteed delivery, the package got there three days later. I went to talk to them and was told a weather delay voided the guarantee. My suggestion is, do not pay for the guarantee, weather in another state delayed all planes for 1 hour, since the guarantee was voided, they made no attempt to expedite any of the deliveries. read more

UTTER INCOMPETENCE; EVEN WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I dropped off a pre-labeled package for a product return. The package was misdirected, apparently because the clerk entered the wrong address - despite the clear labelling. The package was delivered to an address in Ohio when it should have gone to a completely unrelated and dissimilar address in Pennsylvania. When I contacted the UPS Store, they offered to do nothing to help retrieve the misdirected package even though the tracking information identified exactly where the package was delivered. I tried contacting the engineering firm that received my cabinet hardware, but unfortunately they could not locate the package. The value was almost $600. The UPS Store clerk never explained the insurance options and, unfortunately, the insurance value is only $100. So I went to the UPS Store and tried to speak with a manager, but was told none were available and that they could not help me in any event. Instead, they had the audacity to print a copy of the terms of shipping, which they said protected them from liability. DO NOT USE THIS STORE. I dont think he understand what customer service means. Im not gonna go into my experience with him other than the fact I felt disrespected. Rude is an understatement. After my transaction with him, I honestly did not feel comfortable about my mail getting to the destination. I figured oh well, I dont have to deal with him again once my package gets delivered. Well, its been 2 weeks and my mail never go delivered. Sure these things happen but I really feel like he sabotaged it. No way to tell obviously but my 2 cents. Horrible service. If I could give it zero stars I would. The guy who owns it is rude and dismissive. We went to get a document notarized at 4:15 and were advised they only did it until 4:00. When we questioned why, as the people in front of us were just finishing up having something notarized, the young, smart mouthed employee said that it's UPS policy not to notarized after 4:00. I said no, it's not. The UPS in Dominion Valley does it whenever they're open. The kid proceeded to argue with me with a snarky "well, it's OUR policy." My husband asked for the store manager and the guy who was standing there said he's the owner and we "heard the kid". We walked out disgusted. Will never go there again. read more

This location has gone way downhill, go elsewhere unless you're dropping a prepaid box. No longer friendly, horrible customer service. A week ago I shipped a large flat item in a new, clean pizza box with no problem. This week a young woman refused to ship it, claiming 'food boxes' aren't 'shipping boxes' and aren't allowed. Asked me to buy their packaging. I pointed out it was fine a week earlier, and what the difference was between the boxes. She said it wasn't allowed and suggested maybe one of the other employees would ship it, but she wouldn't. Manager who was observing did nothing. I left to take care of other stuff, calling UPS on the way. Turns out it was a lie, they are perfectly happy to ship new, clean pizza boxes. Returned and the manager tried to charge me $20 based on sloppy measuring. Asking why it was so much more than last week he re-measured and lowered it to $17.50. I've been having more bad experiences here recently, and I'll be avoiding it as much as possible in the future. read more

As others have said, if I could give zero stars simply because of what happened, I would, but this is a one-star review moreso because the manager - I think that's who he was - was rude and provided poor, if not outright despicable, customer service. This experience was so bad we complained to UPS corporate, and hope to see some satisfaction from them, although I'm not hopeful. A few weeks ago I took in a number of packages to UPS store #5000 to ship for Christmas, including a piece of original artwork with expensive framing, non-reflective glass, the whole works. I specifically wanted them to pack it for two reasons: 1) for insurance purposes - a claim can't be disputed on the basis that something wasn't packed correctly if they do it; and, 2) to find out what that would cost as we anticipate shipping more art at a later date. The counter staff was very helpful and pleasant, despite the pre-Christmas madness. We paid for a 24x6x18 picture box, plus extra for packaging a fragile item, for a total of over $30 above and beyond the shipping cost. When the package arrived the recipient reached out to tell us that the artwork was damaged, the matting was damaged, there was no glass - it was entirely missing - and the frame was ruined with damage on all four sides. Needless to say, the recipient's Christmas gift was not what they had hoped it would be. The packaging? A single flat box that the framed art had been slid into with no overpacking, no bubble wrap, no protective layer at all. The packaging, I should mention, shows little evidence of the damage inflicted on the contents. For example, where'd the glass go? As there was none to be found in either the frame or the box, we have to assume it was broken, then laboriously removed, prior to packaging, in other words, in the store. The recipient sent pictures of the damaged artwork and all of the packaging, which I printed and took to the store, along with the receipt, to file a claim. No manager was present, but again, the counter help was efficient and gracious, seemed genuinely upset at the damage, and said they would inform the manager and initiate a claim. The young woman who originally waited on me was there, along with others, and after looking at the pictures, she point-blank told me that the packaging used wasn't what she'd charged me for or what should have been used. To confirm the claim was filed, a manager was to call me, but never did. Four days later, I called them, and got whom I believe is the manager on the phone. When he answered I asked to speak to a manager and he said one wasn't there, but that I could talk to him. When my interaction with him became so negative, I asked to speak to a manager or the owner, and he then told me - twice - that he was the manager and had been for years. I tried to explain what the issue was - that we didn't get what we paid for and as a result the contents were badly damaged - and he was immediately defensive, telling me I didn't know what happened and couldn't accuse his people like that. I tried to explain that I was not accusing anyone but that we had paid for a specific box and packaging and didn't get it, and again, he said not to accuse his people and that he wasn't going to argue the point. I told him I was looking at the receipt and that the pictures plainly showed that wasn't what we got, but he denied it all. I asked if he could at least confirm that a claim had been initiated. He asked my name and almost immediately, despite previously having denied knowing anything about it, said yes, a claim had been filed. The problem? The account, and claim, is in my wife's name, which is not the same as mine, so he clearly couldn't have truthfully known that a claim had been filed, at least unless he actually did know about it. He repeatedly said the problem was with the carrier and that they would handle the claim, but when I again tried asking about the problem that had to have occurred in the store prior to shipping and what could be done about that, he hung up on me. There is little doubt that the damage occurred prior to packaging and shipping -- beside the completely missing glass, a corner of the artwork is smashed where the box isn't, suggesting the artwork was dropped onto that corner - and zero doubt that what we paid to have done was not done. Despite this, the manager rudely refused to discuss it or accept any responsibility, putting the full burden on the UPS carrier instead. I hope that there is no fight to collect on the actual damage claim - we insured the box - but also that UPS corporate is able to somehow remedy both the poor performance by whomever improperly packaged the artwork and the horrendous rudeness on the part of the manager. Although we have used this store for many years and it is quite a bit closer to home than any other UPS store, we will NEVER do business with this store again. They failed at the basics - doing what they're paid to do, and simple customer service. read more

"I'm no expert" I walked into this location yesterday a little stressed and a bit disorganized. I needed copies and envelopes, i needed to ship a couple documents and to say the least I was slightly overwhelmed. I don't know my way around your typical office equipment, didn't even know which way to face papers in the copier haha. The gentleman working was all to kind! He helped me with a couple trips to the copy machine, pointed me in the direction of envelopes, weighed my packages, all while assisting other customers. I use this UPS store often but something happened today that caused me to write this yelp review. I had a box in my car to return to Amazon but I had forgotten to tape it up, when I walked in I immediately grabbed one of their packing tape dispensers to purchase when I was told by their sales associate Matthew that they would tape it up for me and I asked if they would use the tape that I bought and he replied that they would do it for free. I was pleasantly surprised at their customer service. I've also gone here and erroneously brought in a pkg to return that should've been returned via the post office but when I walked in the lady behind the counter told me not to worry about it and threw it in a bin beside her and she told me that she would take care of it. I had the chance to stop by on Saturday, January 6th to get a print job taken care of and drop off some Amazon returns. The place was packed, but everyone seemed happy waiting in line because the line kept humming due to the 2 guys up front running the store. They were fast but very fair and everyone talked about how well they ran things. When it was time to get my print job done, it was handled with great care. I plan on coming back in the near future. I've been using this UPS location for about 2 years now. My primary reason for going is the notary service, for some reason I always seem to need something notarized. The customer service here is exceptional, very friendly, helpful and patient (especially with over-caffeinated customers with 10 pages to notarize and lacking basic file-management skills). I use this location all the time. Generally, I have a great experience Overall, I think the staff is professional, courteous, and conscientious. However, I could not give 5 stars today because I had a very unpleasant experience with "Matthew." Matthew accused me if being rude very loudly after I asked him to correct a misspelling on a label. At the beginning of the transaction, I explained that these were legal documents and everything had to be correct. Matthew had the spelling of my name wrong on all three packages, couldn't spell "headquarters," etc. Thankfully, "Bijan" took over and saved my day. Even though he had to redo every label, his co-worker got wrong, Bijan was kind, considerate, professional, and double checked everything. I have been in customer care positions for over 30 years. I know how the public can be. Whenever I get good service anywhere, I speak to the Management to let them know what an excellent employee they have. There was no excuse for Matthew's lazy, biligerant attitude. Hopefully, this location will hire more individuals like Bijan. read more

As a small business that sends antique and collectible items regularly, we have had 3 expensive items in a few weeks that arrived damaged/ smashed. In one case, the person working in the UPS store threw a well packed, breakable item on the floor right in front of me. 2 claims have been submitted and another one is on it's way as it arrived broken. The staff at this location is great, very friendly and attentive. The reason for my poor review is the cost of UPS shipping. We had several toys to ship across country and the total cost for packing and ground shipping (a minimum 8-day transit) was nearly $90.00. We opted to use USPS flat rate boxes we picked up at the post office and will have these items delivered in three days for a cost of approximately $45.00. read more

I measured and weighed my own items at home and brought the information to this branch. The representative I spoke with that day gave me an estimate of just over $300 for packing, shipping and insurance. While, I thought that was exorbitant, I went ahead and brought my items in the following day to make good on the estimate I was given. Apparently there was some minor miscommunication on both our parts, but rather than honor the estimate, or even compromise on the two figures (roughly $100+ apart), the owner basically just held his ground. Choosing not honor his employee's estimate, or to compromise on the two figures in the long-term interest of customer service and repeat business. And to top it ALL off, there was an older, surly female employee who inserted herself into the discussion at a number of points whereas she wasn't the individual I was dealing with to begin with. I've never had worst customer service and disrespect. In the future I will pack everything myself at my own inconvenience and drive further to avoid giving this branch another nickel. I had a very similar situation as a previous customer. My package was also damaged in transit. The end receiver stated and I quote " you packed this $500 monitor like a child". The store took no responsibility at all and treated me like I was being dishonest. It cost be $200 dollars, I wasn't even looking for a refund from the store, just some compassion or some type of discount. I have used this store for years and I'm a steady customer, you would think that I would get some type of customer service break for being loyal. Nope, nothing!!!
