    For all the 1-star reviewers: Package the items yourself if you want to save money. The prices for…read morepacking are high because they do a great job ensuring that your product will arrive on time and intact. Also, an actual person trying to make a living wage is doing this for you, so try and show a little respect. I have had nothing but great experiences at this place because I mostly package the items at home and print my own labels. When dropping off at the store, they always verify my package dimensions/weight and kindly provide me with a receipt. The one time I did use their services for packing/insurance it was expensive but they did fantastic work. So much so that the woman receiving the package actually called me to compliment on my packing job! (I fessed up and admitted it wasn't mine) UPS Ground is the most reliable and reasonable service around because of their superior delivery network and the shipping is worth it, in my opinion.

To the owner: charging $2 just to tape a customer's box sends the wrong message, especially to repeat customers who consistently support your business. I understand businesses have costs, but a few inches of packing tape is a minimal expense that goes a long way in building customer goodwill. Customer loyalty should matter. Policies like this make long-time customers feel nickel-and-dimed rather than appreciated. A small courtesy for repeat patrons would create far more value than the $2 collected for tape. Your employees are fantastic, so it is definitely managerial. Now I know why you're at 3.1 stars on Yelp as of the writing of this review. I hope you'll reconsider this policy. It's the little things that determine whether customers continue choosing your store or take their business elsewhere.

    I've lost trust in this shop as a reliable bike shop in more ways than one--their billing practice,…read moreworkmanship, and basic trustworthiness, all of which are questionable at best based on my most recent experience at the shop. My experience there had been relatively positive over the past 7-8 years, but at this point I wouldn't trust them even with a basic service. I initially had a minor back-and-forth with their staff regarding incorrect charges on my receipt. While they did eventually issue a refund, I had to return shortly after for a follow-up service because the tubeless setup wasn't done correctly the first time. To make matters worse, I am reasonably certain my bike was intentionally damaged while in their care during that second visit, likely by a staff member in retaliation. Unsurprisingly, the owner has denied any wrongdoing and refused to accept any responsibility or accountability for the damage. I have been going to Haymarket Bicycles purely for convenience as they are located right down the street from me, but proximity is no longer a factor. For riders looking for trustworthy alternatives, I highly recommend Danny at Bull Run Bicycles or Chris at Blue Ridge Cyclery, both of whom have provided excellent, reliable service in the past.

Overall it was an excellent experience- really impressive performance really. I've previous top- notch experience with C&F so my expectations were already high. Yet to say they super exceeded my expectations this time would still be an understatement. The pickup crew was professional which instilled confidence. Communication on shipment status was good. Their advice on how to prepare, ship, and insure was valuable.......overall, just as you'd expect from a quality organization. There was a delivery issue- not C&F's fault- yet they stepped up to take care of it. Wow! This was a big deal as it demonstrated how committed C&F was to customer satisfaction. Incredible really. Even Dave L. called afterwards to check on my satisfaction. Wow! As for value....... The quoted price was accurate, and they waaay over delivered IMO.     I will start by saying that all the knives we had sharpened looked great and were extremely sharp…read moreafter using this service. This is a very mixed review because, up until we got our knives, the entire experience couldn't possibly have been easier or more pleasant. For some context, I live out of state, so all of my communication was over the phone or over text. The owner was extremely friendly on the phone and I arranged to pay in advance to sharpen 6 knives (the price was very reasonable). As this was a gift for family members, I gave him the name of my father as the recipient of the knives. However, somewhat confusingly, I then asked my brother who lives in the area to bring the knives in to be sharpened. The owner charged my brother for the service and my brother paid, both clearly misunderstanding that I paid in advance. This is where the entire service became unbelievably disappointing. The owner went back and forth with my brother about how unlikely it would have been that I paid in advance given that he normally asks customers to pay after he completes the sharpening job. After I sent screenshots of our earlier conversation and of my payment, the owner agreed to pay my brother back for the double payment. All was well and good except the owner sent my brother a text message saying "You all couldn't have made this more difficult". I concede that we weren't entirely clear in our communication but this is simply not any way to talk to customers who, lest we forget, had just paid for your service and apologized for our mistake. I was genuinely so excited to work with a small local business who, up to that point, was extremely friendly and helpful. Based on other reviews this is almost certainly an outlier which made it all the more bizarre. So, aside from a single completely unacceptable comment made in response to a common customer mistake, the service was everything we could have wanted and I hope he continues to provide great service in the future.
