    YMCA of Greene County

    YMCA of Greene County

What a clean and friendly facility available to Greene County. We were traveling on spring break…read moreand spent a few nights in the area. My wife is pretty fanatic about getting her workouts in, even on vacation. We stopped to check out the Greene County Y and found they offered reciprocity to other Y members. This is such a great program for the YMCA to offer and the Greene County Y is now the second time I've taken advantage of it. We often do Les Mills programs at our home Y and dropped in on a 6 a.m. "fight back fit" class thinking it would be of a similar cardio based nature to what we are used to. It turns out this was an actual sparring type program with a small group of regular Greene County members. The group was immediately very inviting and welcomed us into their class. We each worked with a class regular that really sacrificed their own morning workout to work with the newbies. We had a lot of fun in this class and wish our own Y at home offered a similar program. The facility was clean throughout. The steam room was a bonus because we don't have one of those back home. Thank you to the Tuesday morning fight back fit class for being so welcoming and thank you Greene County Y for offering up such a great facility with quality programming.

5/22/17 From the archive…read more Knowing that my hotel I was staying at for the evening, the Hampton Inn in Greeneville, has a sparse workout area, I decided to head over to the Y to get a proper workout in before heading to the hotel. I was pleasantly surprised with what I found. I checked in at the front desk, made my way to the locker rooms, and got changed up. Visiting all of these gyms around the country makes me appreciate my home gym even more. There was nothing inherently wrong with the locker room here, especially if you hadn't experienced something better, but this was just a basic LR. The lockers were the old high school metal kind with the see through grates. The benches were plain wooden, and the showers were very basic as well. But, everything was clean and they offered towels, so I cant make any major complaints. The workout facility was bigger than I expected. Greeneville isn't exactly a burgeoning metropolis, but the facility is a great size. It is a classic Y prototype. You know, the one from the song by the Village People? There was a game room, lap pool, two gymnasiums, a lounge, a child care area, basically everything anyone of any age needs to occupy some time either after school or after work. There kids playing on the pool table and in the gyms, playing on the soccer fields and playground outside, and adults having fun as well. The workout equipment was updated and worked fine. The free weights section(s) were kind of small and cramped with only two sets of each poundage, making finding the proper weight difficult at times. But the treadmills seemed brand new. I missed having the TV display on the treadmill itself, but there were several tvs spread around. I will most definitely hit this place up next time I am staying in town. Since I already have a Y membership, this will be very convenient.

Stay away from my furniture please! I have had two deliveries from Amazon that have had the "last…read moremile' handled by Tri-City Logistics. The second order was for a dining room table and chair set. I scheduled my delivery for a day and time that would work for me and hired some people to help move out old and make sure new would be arrange properly. I hired them to be here one hour before the earliest delivery time. Guess who showed up first, the delivery driver, two hours early, with only one person. The service was to be a two person crew and was to be, I thought, a room of choice, but the main delivery company Pilot said threshold delivery, meaning delivered inside of the main door, not blocking anything, but not necessarily in the best spot. Not to big of a deal. I had everything arranged and was waiting on the people I hired to help when the delivery driver showed up. I said to him, "You're about two hours early aren't you?", and he said no as he fumbled with his papers. I told him he was and explained what was going on. I asked if he had someone with him as I was not able to help him and he said no but all of the furniture was on one pallet and he had a pallet jack to unload it He just stood there and looked at me. I felt frustrated, upset, and had lost the excitement of being able to finish the first room in my new house. I asked how he was going to get it in the house and he said he was to just unload it. It was not room of choice, it was not even threshold, it was just dump and go. I did not want to try to reschedule for another day so I told him to just unload it on the carport. Two hours early may seem like a small thing. Only one man may seem like a small thing. When you are trying to fit several things in one day, one schedule, all it takes is an issue like this to make the rest of the day a hectic mess. Just as the furniture being on the carport when the drape hanger arrived caused them to be delayed by 1.5 hours. They needed the flat spot to cut and trim plus iron before bringing in to hang. The issue here did not cost money. Just show up when you are supposed to. Do what you are asked. And from now on, Tri-City Logistics, stay away from my furniture! As this review is only about the dining room furniture I only discuss it. The star rating is based on two deliveries, the dining room and bedroom furniture which was a disaster as well.
