The place was very impressive form the outside and we were greeted nicely at the main desk and quickly assigned a room. That was where the positive impression ended. The room was nice enough and we settle back waiting for someone to show up and give us a run-down on what to expect during her week-or-more stay. After over two hours, I went into the empty hallway looking for the floor nurse. When I found her, I asked what was going on. Were we supposed to be given an orientation or what? She admitted that she should have done that. Okay, these things happen. But things never got better. The woman in my wife's semi-detached rooming pod began wailing all through the night for unknown reasons, and no one came in to check on her. Where was the floor nurse? Needless to say, there was no sleep that night. The next day, my wife had some very minor rehab exercises in anticipation of more serious work the next day. Well, that never happened. The following day, she began seeing blood in her stools. Worried, we hired a nurse to be with her during the night in case things got worse. Sure enough, things did get worse. In the late evening, very bloody diarrhea was happening, and the hired nurse realized this was a serious situation. After alerting the staff to this, she called us to tell us what was going on, and she sent us pictures to document the seriousness of the situation. The staff essentially refused to admit that maybe my wife needed to be immediately sent to the hospital. They seemed more intent in minimizing the situation and getting everything cleaned up in the bathroom. Furthermore, they said that her situation had to be first reviewed by the facility doctor before we could call 911. You can imagine our response. We immediately called 911, and five minutes later five first responders were in her room preparing to take her to Medstar Montgomery, five minutes away. And thank god for them and that hospital. She was immediately diagnosed with a badly bleeding ulcer - something she had never had a problem with previously - and immediately given remedial action and five blood transfusions over the next week. So, when I think about the total incompetence of the floor staff that night coupled with the almost total absence of anyone on the floor, even during the day, I can only imagine what could have happened if not for that hired nurse and her refusal to have her concerns not taken seriously. Do not send anyone you love to this place.

I rang the bell because it was 8pm and she hadn't been fed yet and there was no water in the room, nobody came. I had to personally go find a nurse. We finally complained AGAIN to the front desk today as we were worried to leave her over night, we were told we could not speak to a doctor at that time but they would call us when they got the chance the following day. They don't care for their patients and staff is completely unprofessional and under qualified.

Skilled Nursing Facility: My mother was an inpatient at…read moreAsbury Methodist Village Skilled Nursing Facility from the end of Dec. 2022 until April 2023 for physical rehabilitation. She was a stroke victim and was admitted to Asbury with C-Diff which she acquired during her stay at the hospital. Aftertreatment, the C-Diff cleared, and she was able to participate in light physical therapy. Unfortunately, the C-Diff returned, and my mother was given another round of antibiotics, but she did not improve. By this time, she was receiving light physical therapy in her room; however, her health continued to deteriorate until she could no longer participate in physical therapy. The therapists and nurses frequently cited my mother's age (93) as a major factor in her continued decline. One evening, the sister of a patient passed by our room and asked to pray over my mother. She was an RN and told my brother and me to take her to an infectious disease doctor as my mother's situation was dire. This was just two days after we met with the doctor at Asbury who offered no solution to our mother's deteriorating medical status and could not explain why the antibiotics were not working. The social workers wanted us to move her into the nursing home as part of the facility, ignoring the C-Diff as a barrier to physical therapy. Following this new information, we decided to take our mother to an infectious disease doctor outside and independent of Asbury; however, we were required to utilize special medical transportation contracted with Asbury at our expense. The infectious disease doctor prescribed vancomycin, which is imperative to overcome C-Diff. In about 10 days, my mother recovered, but the damage was already done as the duration of the C-Diff in her system took its toll. From what I observed, the rehabilitation room is modern and contains several pieces of modern equipment. Asbury is a good place if you are young or middle aged and need to recover from a medical condition or accident which caused physical impairment. However, if you are elderly and frail, they are neither interested nor vested in your recovery. Rather, the emphasis is to move you out or into the nursing home section. Not recommended for the elderly. As for the doctor, basic knowledge (how did he not know about vancomycin and its prescription for C-Diff) was obviously lacking in addition to his limited time at the premises, thereby creating difficulty contacting him.

My upper body was stabilized by tortoise-shell braces, front and back. I looked like a 'Ninja Turtle,' without the powers. Prior to my arrival, I had been able to take just few tentative steps using a walker at Holy Cross. I had looked at the Brooke Grove website, which showed a gymnasium. I doubted that it would be accessible/useful by me. By my second day, I was navigating the hallways with my walker; to the gym, where I was introduced to the Physical Therapy that they have. I learned that I would have 2 hours of therapy 5 days a week. I found the Physical Therapists to be fabulous. They were well-trained, very patient, and never bored. They had a wide variety of exercise routines that were always appropriate to my evolving circumstances. On the third day, we were at a 2-flight staircase. I was afraid I would be invited to climb it, and I was. I took 1 step and a second step, I could do no more. The very next day I was invited to climb the staircase again. I was amazed that I could go all the way up the 2 flights and down! Good Job, I was told. I thought so, thanks to the PT that I had received. I was there for 3 weeks. When I departed, I could use just a cane instead of a walker. The amenities during the 3 weeks were more than satisfactory. The food was surprisingly good. They have a menu of choices that are always available. I opted for the 'Special of the Day.' Lunch and Dinner changed every day during a week. The next week had a different series of specials. The variety of "Special' meals was surprisingly eclectic. There were some that I liked very much because they were rather spicy/tasty. I was impressed that they were included among the Specials. I remember someone shouting in the dining room, 'This is Too Spicy. I can't eat it.! My reaction was 'poor soul.' Then there was the custodial care I received while there, nurses and so on. My own experience was stellar. The primary nurses assigned to me were Rod and Heather. They performed beyond reasonable expectation. Those that attended to me when Rod and Heather were not on-shift, were also excellent.

The facility is very clean and provides a safe environment for those who stay there. The food they serve is prepared by a chef and is not institutional food you find in many hospital centers. Mom had no complaints and enjoyed her meals. Administrate process was very easy getting her in and releasing her. Chris was very helpful. While I received PT services from about all of the physical therapists (Jessica and Mercedes), Brittany really was instrumental in taking the time to learn what verbal cues were key during in my recovery and PT sessions, and how quickly improvement came about with my gait. Every single person in that office was nothing less than wonderful in working with me, even though my schedule would've been maddening to me with how many times I had to switch things around. Not only did I get much much better - but working with people who cared about their jobs and patients made it so much more encouraging. This is a special group. A++

I just love her style - she's very REAL and spends time talking with you about both your medical issue and life in general. She was very sympathetic to my financial situation when I was seeing her (unemployed and without insurance) and always went out of her way to ensure that my costs would be as low as possible. My only regret is that once I became employed again my only option was Kaiser and I couldn't continue to see Kim for my medical needs. I HIGHLY recommend this practice, and Kim Kinder in particular.

Compared to our previous Dr. (who was also a wonderful doctor), office visits are painless; no long waits (we used to wait 2 hours or more to see my old doc), the office staff is a delight (not so with our old doc). Nurses are always on hand for shots or other assistance (great attitudes and personalities) and they have their own phlebotomist in house. Dr. Taubman is great!
